Very poor 🤒
We don't know much about how Dollar General handles customer complaints outside ComplaintsBoard, but what we see here, on our website, is quite disappointing. We think there might be reasons for the company's actions (like not knowing about the complaints), and we would be happy to see them among customer-focused businesses that easily solve customer problems. But until that happens, we ask reviewers to be cautious when dealing with Dollar General and using their services, and to carefully read the experiences of other customers on ComplaintsBoard, because who is warned is armed, you know! 💪

Dollar General wrong termination

My name is LaKisha Jones and I was terminated last night because I was short three times and I don't see how. I been working for Dollar General for almost 6 months and I have never been short. While I was working the cash register I was also stocking and was going back and forth from stocking and the register. There was two people that be working my register and its probably the reason why I was short. I had worked at the Dollar General in Huntington and the store manager told me that they never had been short. I would like my job back working at Dollar General because I love meeting new people, felt comfortable, and loved the people I was working with.

When you leave your register to do other tasks, you should've signed your register off and not let others know your cashier numbers to run your till. They won't rehire you because they view you as a thief.

I purchased 4 "California Scents" coronado cherry auto air fresheners (SKU # [protected]-220). I use them in all my vehicles and love them. My latest purchase (3/9/19) was VERY dissapointing. They were dried out and have almost no fragrance at all.

I prefer to believe this is the fault of the manufacturer and not the store. The employees at my local Dollar General are ALL very nice people, and are proud of their store. Thye would have no way of knowing this product is of inferior quality without opening one and giving it a "sniff-test"!

I am going to follow up by contacting the manufacturer if I can find out who they are!

Dollar General dangerous inexperienced truck driver that put me and my son at risk

A truck driver that drives for dollar general came so close to my car that he was less than an inch away then he stopped and our two vehicles sat there for what felt like forever at an intersection no one. moving finally I moved and he jumped out of his truck and said "Oh, please don't report this." "I could loose my job." "I just got into an accident yesterday." He immediately placed blame on me when then police arrived. I have now become concerned for all the people who were in my position yesterday (2/23/2019). I just feel having people driving 16 wheel trucks when they don't know how to drive is dangerous and you are putting many people at risk.

Dollar General the way the store looks

I was in the store today looking for the store manager, Jessica. Wanted to check on her since her surgery, an I was informed that she was not there that the District Manager was running the store, it looks like crap and I beleieve that the fire marshal needs to be contacted. Those girls work hard in that store an I would hate to see something happen to them, because of the conditions of the store. As much pain as the store manager was in she never let the store look like this. How are we supposed to shop now, you need to get rid of whoever that tall black guy is and find someone who knows what they are doing. I'll never shop there again.

All there stores look like this. I live in NE Ohio and the stores here look the same, actually worse than this. The workers are not to be blamed. The CEO is CHEAP as hell. He expects these employees to stock, unload truck, cashier all at the same time. They are overworked for pennies! He also expects them to work off the clock with no pay to complete tasks! The CEO of Dollar General makes millions off of low income people and cannot even hire someone to come in and unload the trucks so the regular employees can at least focus on customers! Speaks volumes as to what kind of person he is! I will let everyone I know that the CEO is a cheap pig who doesn't care about his customers or his employees!

Dollar General employee discriminate me

Today 21 february 2019 at Dollar General Store located on Mariner Blvd. in Springhill, Florida, 34608.
Employee at the register by the name of Rick refused to sell me an item (cigarettes), I provided him with my ID and debit card to buy the item. He said he did not sell it for me and added to go to another store to purchase the item.

He clearly discriminated against me because I was talking spanish with my wife while standing on line. A person like should be fired.

an id inspired Lol, its expired and if an id is expired then the store has the right to refuse any and all cigarette, tobacco and alcohol purchases to anyone with an expired id. its a law. if that employee would of sold cigarettes, tobacco or alcohol to someone with an expired id, not only could that said person lose their job but that employee and that store could face heavy fines and penalties for an improper sale

Hi Eliezer, we're sorry about the inconvenience you had at one of our stores. However it appears the cashier is correct in this situation. Stores do have the right to refuse cigarette sales if there's any questions about the ID you provided.

You slapped your wife over something that dumb? That's insane. Seriously though, the dg corporate person is right about the Id thing. My friend used to work for DG so I would know this. Your id has to be current and not expired, not inspired, to sell cigarettes

Dollar General wrongful termination

I worked at Dollar General store number 07695. I was working on January 2nd, 2019 with a lady named Kari Brewer. She had a shopping cart full of items. I rang her stuff up after the last customer had left, then her card declined. She went to her car to look for her other card and was outside for a good minute. She came back in the store and said that she called our store manager Monica Wells said to cash it out make a copy of the receipt and come back the next day and pay for it. Kari had to work the next day anyway so she told me how to do it. I didn't thinkuch about it because Kari and Monica are both over me and we just closed and Monica works herself to death I didn't wanna make her answer the phone again so I just followed what I was told to do. I had a meeting today with a District Manager Brandon Miser, which is not our district manager anymore, and he showed me the video I told him the truth on what happened that day and he fired me. He fired me because Kari stole from them, apparently on more than one occasion, and I got fired for it.

Dollar General service

I presented the clerk at Dollar General in Bay Springs MS with a store coupon for $5.00.
I received this coupon on a receipt from shopping a couple weeks ago. The coupon said it was good for anything. I must purchase $5.00 to use. Clerk told me the coupon would not work and I could not use it. The expiration date is March 2. She did not try to find out why or help me with the problem at all. She was not rude just no help.

Dollar General I am complaining about a rude store manager!

2/12/2019
17054 store number
bad manager

I Brianna Marie am writing this complaint because i have been nothing but a loyal employee for over 1 year and a half but my manager has not been the best. She called me into the office yesterday to have me sign write ups on stuff every employee does up their. She has attacked me and treated me different since day one. After a year of being her ***** i'm tired of it. She does nothing but sit on her phone why she runs the crap out of her employees and it's not right. Something needs to be done with her or this dollar general will loose out on a bunch of customer's. So after signing my write up she started to get very verbal and aggressive with me and was yelling at me and there was several customer's in the store who heard the conversation and they said it was very embarrassing for them and she should have handled it when no one was in store. I'm writing this because i want something done about her.

If you have an issue with your manager, you should have addressed it with her instead of posting your concerns on a public website. Posting here will most likely cost you your job and more people taking your managers side.

Dollar General management

My son worked at this store for almost two years. About three weeks ago he was asked to cover a shift on his day off. He had a Dr. appointment and other commitments, so was unable to cover. Since then the manager has given him nothing but grief. Gave him 10 hours on the schedule last week and this week only five hours. Today he had enough and quit. Just what they wanted him to do!

Dollar General customer service

On February 11, 2019 my 15 year old granddaughter enter your store at 234 Old Sardis Rd, Oxford, MS 38655. When she got to the check out the cashier never spoke to her and did not turn the bag holder around for her to get her bag. But she heard him speak loudly to the white lady behind her. I know she has to be telling the truth because I had just left the store 30 minutes prior. We love the Dollar General Stores because they are a convenience to our home. I do not like my grand kids feeling this way because we did not raise them to act like this. They are very respectable I would like for them to feel they are same no matter where they go. When I was in there I made him speak because I have learned to look over some people because they don't know better.

You're setting a bad example for your granddaughter here. You're trying to teach her respect yet here you are trying to make this about racism. She's got a mouth, she could've spoke to the cashier like you did. Smh

Dollar General employee working alone

I have been into dollar general multiple times and seen employees working alone. I don't see how that's acceptable. Not only is it dangerous to the employee but it is inconvenient for the customers. The line would be half as long as the store itself. And the poor lady on register working as hard and fast as possible. How can a multi million dollar company not be able to afford to have at least two employees working at a time. I will not do any business with dollar general after seeing this happen over and over again.

it is a very dangerous situation to be left alone in any retail store. sad thing is this happens across all Dollar general stores. ive seen first hand employees being left in a store for 9+ hours at a time weekly and they cant take any breaks or even a meal break because they dont have any to cover the store, they need to give the stores more payroll to properly staff their stores. if your in a store by yourself and you get hurt robbed or shot you are on your own no one there to help you and good luck trying to get in touch with someone if you are hurt or whatnot

Dollar General checking out

I went to this location after having a bad experience at Kroger and got my probably $30 worth of merchandise to the register only to find that there aren't any employees. I walked the whole store and wasn't able to find any. The only person I saw who might work there was sitting outside talking to someone. This is no way to run a business. Sadly between dollar general and Kroger this week you all have made Walmart som money.

Dollar General employees

It is no wonder this store can not keep employees. My daughter started working there last week and she has been ruled to death by the dumbest rules. No breaks, no snacks, not even a tiny snack, not able to sit down for any reason, can't walk outside for any reason, can't purchase anything in the store while in uniform, not even a soda while on shift. Her schedule changes whenever the managers feel like it without any warning or consideration and whenever she questions "it's a rule". She's part-time and that gets thrown in her face a lot. She's a hard worker and they like working with her but I am tired of this treatment. She is young and does not realize that this is not how things work. You will never keep employees here.

Dollar General everpet multiple cat clumping litter

Jan 2019, The 1st of this year, the changes in the DG store brand cat litter Everpet are terrible. The color is now dark grey, and has NO ODER CONTROL. And within using 1- 20 lb box, my cat developed a very bad urinary tract infection. She got so sick so fast I almost lost her. The vet gave her an antibiotic and steroids to get better. She's still working on being able to eat, drink and potty. She has really suffered. She has NEVER had this happen to her, and she is 18 yrs old. She didn't need something like this bringing down her health!
I had used Everpet cat litter for a few years now. And it was a better price and worked as well as all other litters.
It also had great oder control. It was also the only cat litter my cat could use without getting itchy and having problems. Then, In Jan 2019 it went from a very light gray color to an extremely dark gray color with a bad smell before I even put it in the litter box.
It gave my cat a urinary tract infection and that is the deal-breaker.
Symptoms began with her trying to go pee too often, and only a tsp-a TBS at a time. Then violent vomiting until nothing left. Then not eating... Then to the Veterinarian... An expensive trip no doubt. But she's my baby. She's still improving. You're Putting pets at risk to lower the standards of your products for your gain is UNACCEPTABLE.

Dollar General training manager brook

1) she's a slob that leave her open gold fish crackers laying all over the store half eaten along with mountain dew bottles half drank and makes all the others clean up after her. 2) i'm so tired of her treating the other workers one minutes like her pet then when someone new comes in that is good with running the store, she starts treating them like crap.. Right now that store has one of the best girls working there since they have opened and she is so good with us as customers and i'd hate to see this girl leave like so many other good ones left because brook treats them like crap. I even once over heard a conversation between her and one of the first girls named stephany when stephany was no longer her pet, that brooks best friend was the big manager of all the stores around peoria and poor stephany wouldn't be able to work at any of them if she quit.. Brook has pulled this on so many people along with her friend that is higher up and I can't recall her name but it's not right nor is it fair that these girls with great customers service and makes our visit enjoyable should be forced to stay at one store or none at all and get treated the way they do from this slob brook and not have any chances to change a store do to lack of help they need from their higher up's brook should be demoted or fired! I am not the only customer who thinks this, we have all seen how brook treats them and we have all talked to the one girl now that is being you can say bullied by brook and yet has not gotten the help she needs. I'm losing faith in humanity...

Dollar General customer service

I went into Dollar General this morning to purchase an item. The price on the shelf tag was $1.85. When I got to the register, it rung up $2.00. I asked the cashier and she called the manager.
The manager was so rude stating, "Prices change everyday. It must have been a price change. I'm going to override it this time."
The fact of it is, if it was a price change, they should have changed the price on the shelf tag.
I am in that store often because it near where I work. And the price for this item has been $1.85 for quite some time.
It was not necessary for the store manager to be so rude while doing her job!

Dollar General customer service

I came to this store to get the product that I needed. There was someone waiting for the cashier and the cashiers were all in the break area by the restrooms on their phones laughing and talking. I went to the doorway and informed them we were ready, meaning we were ready to checkout, and the cashier that checked us out busted out in laughter after I walked off to go get back in line. About 30 seconds to almost a minute later she comes to check us out didn't say anything to the lady in front of me. So I looks on the door for a number to call and on the wall for managerial information and nothing. When it was my turn she asked how I was doing I told her fine and I asked how she was doing and she said the same, fine. I figured she only did that bc she saw I was looking for the number to report the customer service that was given to me and lady before me. She gave my change told me to have a good night and I said you do the same sweetheart and walked out the store. I work for customer service and has worked in retail and the way your cashiers are to the people makes a different how people will come and enter your store. Inform the young ladies if they are there just for a pay check it will show like it did the night of 2/3/19. Customer service needs to be better and be respectful with people that are helping the business and them have a job.

Dollar General condition of store

Recently the store has undergone new staging which was great but manager is not running effectively. Store has product in every isle you have to get around. Only one isle you could easily get thru today. Also there is always long line to check out. It looks so unorganized and dirty. Someone needs to give it some attention. Dollar General clerks and neighborhood dog

02-02-2019
I was standing in line at the che checkout and a large neighborhood dog licked my hand. When I told the dog to quit the clerk told me oh that's just General. I told her i did not like animals licking my hand. They make a practice of feeding this dog on a regular bassis. This is the second time this dog has come in the store and licked my hand as well as following me or other customer to vehicles begging for food. As I was exiting the store today I paused to speak to a friend the clerk came past me with a bag of dog food the dog came on the other side of me where there was hardly any room and hit my leg trying to get out the door almost knocking me down. the clerk said nothing to me. I spend a lot of money at this store, and would like to shop without animals licking or runnig over me. The dog needs to go!

Dollar General cashier josh

I stood in line 10 min which was linefor 2 registers. The second register guy josh was replacing a receipt tape for first register and I inquired if other register would be up soon. He said it would be a minute so I waited where I was. In meantime a man came up when he said he was open. I was heading there and the other customer just gutted ahead. Josh did nothing even when I told both I had been in line and customer said he did not care. Josh totally ignored me and took care of the man who jumped in line who proceeded to tell netogo back north and was rude. I think Josh should have let guy know I was next as he clearly knew. This store is very unorganized all the time and the clerks are always just standing around and doing as little as possible.
