scam, billing, nasty and rude
Do not use this Planet Fitness. They are rude and try to steal your money after you have cancelled. They sell a bill of goods. Its cheap and then it starts. Oh we have 11, 0000 members and since your card did not go through (it went through the last months wouldnt you think something was up and call or notify a valued member) before charging) we are...

I initially purchased a membership at “Planet Fitness, ” in Altamonte Springs to allow my son, 14, to work out. The employee who signed me up said that I could do my reading and studying for school while he was doing his work out, as long as I was in the building. I was hit by a car while riding my bike Feb. 18, 2011 and have not been able to take him to the gym. I went in this evening and asked if his brother could take my place working out since I obviously could not. I was told "No." So, then I asked if I could transfer the membership to his dad's name so my son could continue to work out since that was the main reason for the purchase of the membership. I was again told "No." The bottom line is, I was lied to when I signed up, the guy said I did not have to be working out too. Now she tells me that my son cannot work out while I sit and read. She said the best that she can do is to freeze my account for four months. I told her that that is not fair to my son, and not what I was told in the beginning and I wanted my membership terminated without paying the $58.00 fee since it was not my fault that I was hit by a car and she will not allow my husband to take over the membership so our son can work out. I do not feel that this is the appropriate action due to my circumstances. I want my membership canceled and do not feel that I should be charged the cancelation fee.

To the person that said everyone has a sob story. Get a life. I hope that there is a day you actually stick up for yourself and someone says this to you.
Planet fitness is a scam and that is how they really make their money. I signed a contract and paid a fee to cancel that contract. A manger cancelled me and stated I was cancelled and done. Then a few days after they chaged me to cancel they charged me for another month. Their answer was deal with your bank. I do not have a sob story. I was tired of being screwed by them and cancelled, paid the fee and found a fitness center that actually cares about their membership. The only person that would respond this was would be someone who owns a Planet Fitness. Its so obvious.
I bet you would have better luck with a quicker response if you went to twitter and had their name in the subject line. They say that's the best way to get a companies attention these days. Good luck, and speedy recovery!
rude & insulting manager
I have been an avid member of this gym for well over 3 years. I always thought the members and almost all of the employees are nice. However 2 days ago I went to tan after working out. After undressing I noticed someone had taken the phone from the room (direct line to front desk to request tanning time) so I called from my cell. The "acting" manager gave me a ton of attitude for calling the main #. I stood there and waited for the timer on the booth and got nothing. When I called again the same girl (Celina) told me if there wasnt a phone in the room THAT I MUST HAVE TAKEN IT. (WOW !) When I left I stopped at the desk and put my gym bag on it so Celina could be assured I didnt have the extension phone. She said something about her not saying that I stole and I cut her off and said "yes you did" and I left. The next day I returned to try to resolve the incident and Celina approached me and handed my a "Cancellation" slip and told me not to return. Former member (not a thief) 62701, Joe Labrecque

Planetfitnee Newark Delaware
The staff is very rude, they do everything little short of beating you up.I had a very bad experience from the staff they were rude abusive and also disrespectful.I am looking into suing them. This is not the place if you want to enjoy your workout. Not sure where they get the staff from they are very unprofessional and also discriminative...
rude staff
Very rude staff, they are not trained to handle customers. They threaten you with their body language and serious stares. For a moment you feel like u r in a lawless land.I guess the treatment reflects the price a junk place .All their equipment is broken and there is no replacement...
This is very unprofessional place
Planet Fitness has the rudest staff. I had to pay an extra $20 for no fault of mine. I had closed my checking account which was originally on their paperwork. I had let know the staff about it and paid in advance one months member fee. Inspite of asking time and again about the member fee whenever it was due from the front desk staff I was not informed about it until they had gathered two late fee on the account. Their manager, the rudest staff member of all, tells me that its not their duty to tell everyone and the billing is collected by some other company. He would not even call his employee so that we all can talk in front of each other. He was acting as a dictator and would not listen to me at all. Beware of the rude staff and rip off from PlanetFitness.
10 or 20 bucks a month is nice, but treating your clients with respect isn't asking much. The gym is poorly maintained as well; treadmill belts stick all the time & the bathroom/lockeroom is never clean. The gym is not very sanitary for it's guests. The management staff should be embarassed.
I happen to like that gym... Where else can you work out for 10 or 20 bucks a month?
Something like this happened to me, through no fault of my own, they messed up: read...
A Planet Fitness manager canceled my membership; I was robbed in early September, had my wallet stolen, and called the gym to change my account number because my card number changed. The girl took my information and assured me I was okay. A week later I get a letter saying my card was declined and I now owe all these fees. I tried to talk to the manager for FOUR WEEKs. I talked to three different people on five occasions who claim to have left messages for him, and stayed on hold for fifteen minutes one day with no one coming back.
The manager claims he never got the messages and that I never called to change my card number. Furthermore, they ran my card a SECOND time, and now I owe for TWO months, one of which I was unable to use because my account was on hold!
I have the police report saying my wallet was stolen, and phone records showing when I called and how long I was on the phone, but I "never called." He yelled at me and said "People like you try to do this all the time." People like me? What innocent people that try to do the honest thing, spending four weeks trying to rectify the situation, only to have my membership canceled? I wouldn't recommend this gym to my worst enemy.
women's right violations
I went to the Planet Fitness in Westland, MI. on 2/25/11 and at 8:30pm I had just got out of the shower and went directly across to the stall on the other side when shortly after a male employee came in the locker room and announced himself. After he did so, so did I and proceeded to tell him that I was indeed completely undressed. He then proceeded to...

I posted a previous post which I sent my cancellation through and nobody responded. After my post a few people responded and put a notice on my debit. My contract ran from 10 may 2007 - 8 may 2010, and I have the original contracts stating paid joining fee and card fee, r300 + r50. The upfront membership fee was written as r300 on the contract but the balance amount was scratchd out by godfrey saying it is my 1 month free gym which we brought pamphlets in for the special. I even went into the gym beginning of may 2010 to ensure the debit wont go off my wife and i's accounts and they showed me on screen at the gym no debit amount would go off. True to good old planett fitness the debits went off on both our accounts which we reversed and stopped any debit at the bank. Now my account shows a balance of r404 for each gym membership which is even above what we used to pay after the crazy increases of r384.
They are trying to charge me for 37 months! They take weeks to get back to you and when my membership was about to expire I received 2 phone calls a day to re apply. When they want your business they bother you constantly after that you are all alone.
favoritism
The contract states no children under the age of 13 years are allowed in the facility. The last 4 times I went to work out, there was a kid sitting by his or her parents. They were not bothering anyone. I didn't mind at all. The kids were maybe 10 years old. Definitely NOT 13. So I figured, they broke the rule for these people, I would bring my child with...

Sales guy says... We will HELP you where we can. we can put your membership on hold for 3 months in case of job loss or what ever and help you selling your contract again if you don't want it... 'Bull **** story '
I am a member at Planet fitness in Kuilsriver. I was retrench in December 2009 and went to them and ask if I could put a hold on it till I am employed again and they said no.
So I went to the bank to stop the debit order and ABSA told me that the Planet fitness must change it on their systems. OK
Went back to planet fitness and the manager Errol said that they will change it so that I can pay it cash every month.. I told him that I cant afford it because i don't have any income...
he said that I signed for a 3 year contract and told him no I did not. When I took my contract out I said to the guy that I will only sign the contract if he can change it to a 1 year with the option to extend for the other 2 years.
Now they don't want to cancel it. I know a lot of people that have this problem...
monthly deductions and still no membership
Approximately 3 years ago I joined Planet Fitness, Parklands. I managed to use the gym 'once' and thereafter my card would not scan at the turnstiles again - also at the time absolutely no debits was being done... I assumed my account wasn't set up correctly cause A: my card wouldn't work B: No debits were being done and C: When I try checking my account on the PF website using my 'membership' number or ID number it says 'does not exist'. About a year ago debits were 'suddenly' being done. One month for R249, the next month for R279 then they'll skip a few months and then suddenly another debit for R199 then the next day R99! WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON' I then spoke to (I think his name was...) Barry Bentlry who assured me that this will be resolved! Bareing in mind that during this time I kept emailing PF customer services and gotten NO response. I was then told to contact Parklands branch, I spoke to someone (afrikaans name starts with an E) - I told her that I have proof of these emails and she NEVER called me back.. I would've loved to have been able USE the service but because of inadequate staff I couldn't...
I am totally irritated by the constant harassment of planet fitness employee
I am totally irritated by the constant harassment by ****** employed by Planet Fitness who do not understand simple instructions. I am contacted on a regular basis by them, practically trying to shove their membership down my throat. I have requested them to remove me from their database a few times after the first DUDE ****** me off. They have really **** attitudes, and no respect. There is no way to get in contact with the CEO, who is probably a bigger ******* than the staff he employs. Mr CEO, get your staff off my back or I will take matters further. .
judgement free hypocrisy
Planet Fitness franchises prides themselves on being "Judgment Free Zones". However, Plant Fitness is anything but judgment free, as evidenced by their radio and television commercials in which they depict a so-called "Lunkhead" being ejected from the gym or told that Planet Fitness is not their gym. I find these commercials to be exceptionally discriminatory considering they are deeming an entire culture of people unfit for their facility. The "Lunkhead" is supposed to represent the stereotypical body builder. I am a body builder. And I will never set foot in a Planet Fitness because I am disgusted by the way they have turned an entire culture into a joke. Gyms are meant to be places of fitness, which includes the use of free weights and supplements to enhance the musculature of the body by means of pushing it to its limit. The fact that women are allowed to work out in Uggs is ridiculous. The fact that "Lunkhead" body builders know more about how to keep the body in shape than Planet Fitness trainers is appalling. I have a good mind to go into a Planet Fitness for a day just to see if the ever-so-childish "Lunk Alarm" would go off on me. Mind you, I am a woman. And if I feel so strongly about these defamatory advertisements, imagine how my male counterparts must feel.
No, actually, while I found the GEICO cavemen commercials annoying I did not find them to be hypocritical or discrimitory, as are the Planet Fitness ads. Unless you're an unevolved member of the human species, which is biologically impossible, one would not find those commercials offensive. The fact that you, a Planet Fitness member, cannot articulate anything better than a hateful, slanderous comment regarding a perfectly valid and provable point because I labelled myself a "Lunkhead" by your standards only bolsters my point further. Thank you for the added credibility. May I also point out that if I marketed a product to Caucasians by making discriminatory and racist remarks about African-Americans the advertisements would be removed from the air. Planet Fitness is doing the same thing, marketing a product to a target group by mocking and alienating a culture of people.
These arguments would be valid if they were actually a real concern and anybody cared. I'm a PF member and there are plenty of bodybuilder types that attend there (as I recognize most of the crowd, spending large periods of time there myself). The $10/month membership attracts large quantities of people and that's why they are one of the fastest growing chain gyms around. It's actually a clever marketing ploy b/c it attracts people who don't want to go to Gold's or LA where you have to deal with the "mocked" culture of steroid looking bodybuilders coming up to you every 5 minutes going "hey bro how many sets you got?" but at the same time, the other culture frequently doesn't care and will go there for $10/month anyhow. Lifting outside of the aforementioned environment was what was first appealing to me At the same time, I stack Hyper FX, Creatine Mono, and of course Protein supplements and I'm not even half as big as some guys there. So while your points are in fact valid in theory, they don't apply to reality, at least not at the PF's ive seen. And those advertisements and their prices are responsible for the ever growing membership base they have. There will be some people who feel they are part of the bodybuilding culture that will be offended by PF's advertising strategy, but too few people care and their membership prices far outweigh those token individuals. No offense. I've also noticed that the people who I would consider part of the bodybuilding culture just from physical appearance, seem to all know each other and joke and get along while lifting. Maybe it's coincidence, but it's the only place I've seen that type of tight-knit behavior besides my college weight room. Just my 2 cents.
commercial
The currently running commercial for Planet Fitness (I pick things up and put them down) is extremely hard to watch due to its level of disrespect for a character with low intelligence. It is down-right mean! The whole series of recent commercials is sterotyping bodybuilders as rude and stupid and I cannot beleive they are able to air these without getting suied by the someone. This would NOT be tollerated if the brunt of there jokes were any other group - overweight people, women, blacks, Jews ! As an educator trying to deal with the horrible repercussions of bullying, I am sickened to see this type of "comedy" used in mass media!

I was watching t.v. when a Planet Fitness commercial came on. I belong to this gym and have always liked it...until I saw this commercial. PF is supposed to be a "judgement free zone" However in their commercials they demonstrate the opposite! Especially in the one that shows a body builder type man getting a tour of the gym. They have him repeating "I pick things up and put them down", then they shut him out of the building. I don't know how PF thinks this is a good commercial. All this commercial tells me is that PF judges either muscular people or developmentally challenged people! Therefore they are a judgment zone. I no longer want to give my money to a gym that advertizes their ignorance. They basically say that people who fit the criteria of the man on the commercial are not welcome in that gym! This is discrimination!
The Planet Fitness commercial, I pick things up and put them down, is driving me crazy. It's insulting and mindless! It forces me to press the mute button or change the station. Down with Planet Fitness!
Sandra Anderson
you are an idiot
What, are they supposed to show overweight individuals? They want to encourage people that their desired look will be acheived at the gym. Anyways, there is not a single place in the world that is a judgement free zone.
I can't stand their commercials! No judgment zone? Yeah, right! I belong to Planet Fitness and they do not even allow you to wear hats or anytype of head gear while working out! The reason, I was told, is that it creates an atmosphere of intimidation. I guess one of the owners of Planet Fitness must have had his ### kicked by someone very muscular back in the day. I was 4 months pregnant when the manager at the Portsmouth, NH location very rudely told me about this rule. 4 months Pregnant! I must have looked pretty intimidating to the other members!
Even though he is just an actor I always cringe when that commercial comes on, I don't like the point they are trying to make. I understand they want it known it's not just your everyday "bodybuilders" gym but it seems they are being disrespectful. They are picking on the bodybuilder stereotype making them out to be bullies in their first commercial and now dumb. Not only that but this character seems to not speak much English so are they saying they don't accept bodybuilders, less intelligent or non-English speaking people? You can get alot from a commercial and I have never been so bothered by one before this one.
I find it amusing. I've been to enough gyms to readily recognize the stereotype they are targeting: the hard-core, substance abusing, muscle bound 'roid-rager. I think you've focused on your own perception of "dumb" in this commercial, rather than the massive muscle-bound guy they're trying to portray. Believe me, these guys aren't crying anytime some commercial features some Poindexter nerd w/ bad glasses to make fun of intelligent folks.
Everytime I watch this commercial, I feel so bad for the guy. He just wants to work out. He has his juice, he's getting shown the equipment, and he just wants to "lift things up and put them down." It is very hard to watch this commercial.
I feel the same way! I'm a member of PF and I like it there, but this ad campaign is so insulting toward people in a way that encourages bullying that it makes me want to leave. I am very disappointed that PF has chosen this approach to attract so-called "intelligent" people to their fitness clubs. My PF is a great mix of fit and unfit and old and young and everything in-between. I'm a long-time gym member from many different health clubs going back to the 80's so I think I know the 'stereotype' they are seeking to make fun of. Maybe PF thinks so-called intelligent people are intimidated by strong people who work out a lot. This campaign looks like a bad portrayal of former Governor Schwarzenegger complete with the thick Austrian accent, who in his day defined ultimate strength and fitness, and he is no "dum-dum-dum-dummy". PF should lead by example in their core message to treat all people with respect when working out and anytime!
members and owners of planet fitness
Wow...as a planet fitness employee, I have enjoyed reading all of the complaints. The sad part is most all of the complaints are coming from people who, #1 Don't have a clue what they are signing, #2 Expect country club experiences from the "walmart" of gyms, and #3 apparently don't realize that most Planet Fitnesses are owned by money hungry individuals that attend the country clubs (oh btw...they don't care what you want or complain about, it all comes down to their piggybank).
So here is my complaint...we need customers who can READ the agreement and COMPREHEND its complete meaning.
We need customers who realize that they are only paying $10/$20 per month...noting, you get what you pay for.
We need customers who treat staff and fellow PF members like human beings, not their own personal doormats. (hell, their doormats probably get even a smidge more kindness than they give PF staff)
We need this "judgement free" non intimidation zone to include staff as well. It's amazing how customers and managers are allowed to judge and reek havic on the/their staff.
Furthermore, we need better management for each PF, so the rules aren't just something you have to enforce because corporate says so. (Oh, and only certain clubs enforce them)...However, when PF staff enforces rules, customers who curse, scream, assign blame, and treat staff like unwanted sewer trash are given "a second chance", because that's only right...(I assume that's whats right for the owner's pocketbook!)
In short, if you don't like to honor legal agreements, feel like paying for a cheap gym, where you can complain as much as you would like, treat staff like ###, have them blow your nose and wipe your butt for you, and give to the greedy...PLANET FITNESS IS FOR YOU!
oh, and if you've read this far and you are a member, you deserve to know that if you complained of financial hardship or distress in paying your rate guarentee fee this year...it would have been refunded to you per corporate instruction...sorry all you suckers who got stuck paying it. The patron next to you might have gotten a pass...HA. HA. HA.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
lol yeah stupid customers, next time just ### slap some sense into them lmao
harassment & discrimination
The manager, Cathy Bogdon harasses the employees. She threatens them. She tells them if they don't learn their job, she will let them go. These are mostly high school students. She discriminates when students come in to apply for positions. The turnaround rate for employment is very high. A lot of her employees do not feel comfortable around her. There i...

Planet fitness and there rip off rules is the worse company in the united states. Besides the uneducated staff of lo life that find it to be a problem with helping clients, I joined the gym online in April and was so turned off when i went to ask for tour i never went back. Now im being charged 29 dollars for the annual fee this place is the biggist joke since New York fitness that sold membership to a gym that opened months after it was supposed to and without the hird floor and boxing. I hope to get my $29 fee returned
In order to not be charged an annual fee, you must cancel by the 25th of the previous month. Non-refundable.
pathetic service as well as attitude
On 19 August 2009 I was contact by Planet Fitness Hennopspark, Centurion to inform that I was selected by one of their members for a R500, 00 voucher to attend the gym free for one month. As all sales talk, I had to just come in to collect my voucher. Arriving at Planet Fitness on 24 August I was met by BRUCE who took me to one of the cubicles to waste my time with lots of sales talk about the gym. After convincing me to take this 'last offer on this special' for a three year membership for R6 080, 00, Bruce put the amount through on my credit card confirming that I have 5 days within which I can cancel the agreement and be credited completed, because I preferred discussing it with my husband first. I was first told that I could only be credited after 30 days. VARIOUS telelphone calls Bruce and then with Dennis, as well as e-mails, with NO decency to contact me back, I UP TO DATE (more than 60 days later) still do not have the refund of my R6 080, 00. Three payments of R226, 00 was already taken from my account on this amount. My last call (3 weeks ago) was to inform Dennis that I was to hand this over to an attorney which he commented that it was fine I can do that if I want!
I know how you feel about the people who work at planet fitness. I spoke to a guy called MATT at Planet Fitness in kissimee, west vine street FL 34741. He was so rude and not professional at all, he claimed he was the manager but then corrected himself as the assistant manager and that I cannot speak to anyone else about my member cancelation fees. They keep taking money out of my account even though I cancelled and paid the membership to end, they are so bad and have no customer service. As long as you sign up they don't care about you afterwards. They make it sound so good to join they like ### after. The guy Matt was a arsewipe on the phone. I advise anyone not to join this company, if you want to get fit use the streets for free go running instead of wasting money!
continue to deduct money after cancellation letter
First of all, when my girlfriend joined this gym 3 years ago, I went to Virgin because it was cleaner and has better equipment. I had trouble two years back when my girlfriend fell ill. She recieved a letter from the doctor saying she can't do any exercise anymore. When we went to the gym to try cancel the contract they said that even though the had a back condition and they could see she couldn't use the equipment she could still float around in the pool so they would not allow us to cancel the contract.
I then complained on hello peter they contacted me telling me that they have a clause in the contract saying that they do not cancel contracts for any medical conditions and if we want we can sell the contract (which nobody wants to buy)
So anyway, I've paid R6000 over two years for a contract she can't use, it came to the end of the contract, we wrote a letter of cancellation which they told us to do, dropped it off, and as I suspected they say they have lost the letter and continue to debit her account!
I'm not surprised, I expected this from you guys.
PLANET RUNNING MONEY SCAM ! ! !
My girlfriend and I signed up and were going to Planet for 6 months at the Glen Burnie location in Maryland. The place is in ok shape but could be kept cleaner and needs some maintenance on the machines. There were at least 6 machines out of order for two months. Not sure if they were waiting for parts.
Problem is,
Our relationship ended and I did not want to keep bumping into my ex-gf so I went in to the Planet counter person and told him I wanted to cancel my membership. He was busy on the phone. I told him I could wait until he was finished. He handed me a pen and paper then told me to put my name, address and phone number down. I did this and he said he would take care of it.
Three months went by and the bills kept coming. I thought it just took a few cycles for them to stop the billing. I called them about it but they said I had to go online and send "Corporate" my complaint about the bills that kept coming. I sent a few emails and eventually I received a phone call telling me that they had no info stating that I had cancelled my membership and that I would have to pay the entire amount. I told them that it was not my fault and that I refused to pay it.
Well, in another month I received a pink notice that was from a collection agency. Now the bill was up to $120.00 plus other fees.
I contacted them and I told them I had no intention to pay for it and why. They said it was already put against my credit report. Personally, I do not care what happens here I am not paying it. I told them to take me to court. She laughed and said well its on YOUR credit Report.
I am not at fault and feel this is very un-professional. Even now that my other gym (SNAP Fitness) has closed in my neighborhood I want to go to Planet because its closer and cheaper but I refuse to eat my words so I am going to a place that costs more.
I am not backing down. SNAP is the cleanest and best kept gym I have been to in Maryland.

when you sign a contract for a year, if you do not resign than you should be done with the contract and no more money should be taken from your bank account. It to me is theft and as long as we let them do it they will keep up the unfair practice of stealing your money. I am getting in touch with our state attorney and I think everyone who is being victimized by Planet Fitness should do the same. PI
