Reasons you shouldn't go to FORTIS/Medvance Grand Prairie, TX. Reps lie to students they enroll people with criminal history and tell them not to worry about. If your an illegal immigrant doesn't matter if you cant take your certification test. Because you can get a job in a bi-lingual clinic where they dont care about that kinda thing. Drug possesion who cares they wont check for it. LIE! Reps tell parents of students if they go here we will get them a job and when they graduate they will be hired by there extern. LIE! When the state was trying to drop some of the school programs on the account of low job placement assistance. William Bowker school president said in regards to students who could not be placed on the account of criminal history "we will help those who can be help focus on the ones that can be helped". "IF THEY WORK FOR EVEN JUST ONE DAY WE CAN REPORT IT AS GAINFULL EMPLOYMENT". Mr. Thomas at the same meeting said we can't help it if they don't disclose that they have a bad background". "Since I have been here that has never happened". LIAR! It was funny because 1 month prior he brought in 2 students who had bad criminal histories. Then the next month several student that where in the country illegally knowing they couldn't take there certification exam. Its sad because most of those students paid 100% percent out of pocket for their training. The school stole their money. Every one deserves a education but not based off lies. BEWARE students they will throw you under the bus the first chance they get. Reps flip student if they are looking to get into the LVN, Surgical Tech, or Rad Tech program and there is no room. They will tell them that they have to take the Medical Assisting Program First in order to get into the program. As if its a pre-req. Also students/government pay X amount of $$$ for books when they only get a small percentage. This school and others like it should be shut down. This past month they only enrolled a handfull of students. For graduation they held it in a old church no decore, no flowers on the account that no one cared. This schools values are based off of money not education. And in the words of Will Bowker "if they don't like it they can go somewhere else"... Truth like it or not! And thats not all!

I am the Campus President of Fortis Institute, formerly MedVance Institute, Grand Prairie. We value integrity and have clearly stated admissions standards and requirements in our policies and procedures. Our Admissions Representatives have been trained thoroughly on ethical practices and we have zero tolerance of those who do not adhere to the standards. I regret this individual has such a negative perception of our school but welcome them to contact me and discuss their experience. However, if this individual feels uncomfortable speaking with me, I welcome them to look up the grievance procedures in our school catalog which clearly provides contact information with someone at our corporate office to discuss the matter. I look forward to the opportunity to discuss.

You're lying lol. Admissions is what admissions is, admits all students that pass the wonderlic and have their app fee so they can keep their jobs...this is facts from a previous employee from fortis college.

I was an instructor at Fortis. They lie, change grades, show preferential treatment to Native American students because they don't want to lose the "tribe's money". Just a big scam and money pit. If you pay your tuition, teachers are told to 'grade more leniently'. AKA...falsify grades to pass the student so they will pay the next class's tuition. When I voiced my concerns regarding inadequate instructional materials, exams riddled with errors, etc...I was fired.

Very shady school. You get a poor education and a large amount of debt. Not only is the debt high, but the chance of you getting a job is low. The school has a bad reputation and never hold instructors for a long time. Any staff who realizes this gets fired.

I am a recent graduated student in the VN program and I would NEVER recommend this school! Everything from admission to current has been favoritism and lies! Mrs. Jackson does whatever she wants and Me. Bowker backs her up! He has NO idea how to run a professional institution! The board of nursing has been there 2 times in the the last 4 months and they recently changed the status of the school from initial to initial with warnings. This is a new program, my class was the second and there have been 2 after us but that is NO excuse for poor judgement on their part. The teacher turn over is ridiculous! There is no stability and it makes learning extremely difficult! The students are blamed for everything that goes wrong with the board of nursing when in all actuality it is the administration, the president, and the DON! The only good thing they have going is the ADON Stephanie Windgate! The whole school is FAKE and goes by their own rules! DO NOT ATTEND THIS SCHOOL! IT'S A MISTAKE!

I am currently a student at fortis in Grand Prairie i agree that this school is a scam. I signed up as a a.m student and never once was told that we would have to be switching to night classes. I signed up because it would work around my schedule of work and home. Now i feel betrayed and feel like they gave me false information when i signed up! And what is more outrageous is that the president of the school stated that this has been going on for years that MBC student had to switch to nights after their int-remedial classes were over.Never were MBC students told that they would eventually switch to nights. Now I'm stuck with a 17, 000 dollar tuition that i feel i am not getting my moneys worth at all.Don't get me wrong they have great instructors but the office staff is very shady and give false information! I wish i would have done further research and chose a better school that would accommodate their students because clearly fortis of grand prairie does not care how they are disrupting Their students life but yet we have to pay them ! I'm am looking at enrolling into another school so good luck to people looking at enrolling here. I WOULD NOT REFER ANYONE TO COME HERE!

I'm currently a student at Fortis in Grand Prairie ... very disappointed that I have chose this school... They were not truthful in disclosing all info to me in enrollment! I too am in the MBC course never once was it told to me I would have to switch to a one to six cor class in August! They waited til the end of my first mod to tell us we would be subject to time change! This school does not care about their students! It truly reminds me of the way a used car dealer ship is ran! They tell you what you want to hear get those papers signed and then issue books that you don't even use! Equipment never works and instructors are not educated to teach their subjects! PLEASE BE FOR WARNED... DO YOUR RESEARCH before going to this school! very disappointed student...

I WENT TO THE FORTIS INSTITUTE TODAY IN GRAND PRAIRIE, TX. THE ADVISOR, ERICA, I HAD SPOKEN TO FOR ALMOST THREE HOURS, WHICH I FELT WASTED ALOT OF MY TIME TALKING, ASKING, AND QUESTIONING OVER THE SAME THING. I ONLY WANTED BASIC INFORMATION, TUITION, HOW LONG THE LVN PROGRAM WILL BE, AND SUCH JUST TO GET SOME INFORMATION ABOUT THIS LVN PROGRAM AND THIS SCHOOL. I WAS STUCK THERE FOR ALMOST 3 HOURS AND FELT LIKE TO THEM THAT WHEN I FIRST WALKED IN, THAT IT WAS MY "ONLY" SCHOOL THAT I AM LOOKING INTO. THEY KEPT ASKING THE SAME QUESTIONS OVER AND OVER. THE AVISOR KEPT GIVING ME AN ATTITUDE AND TRIED TO MAKE ME LOOK DUMB. SHE SAID THAT SHE FELT LIKE I WOULD NOT FIT THE LVN AND TO LOOK INTO THE MEDICAL ASSISTANT PROGRAM AND THEN GO FOR THE LVN. SHE GAVE ME A PAPER TO READ ABOUT THE MEDICAL ASSISTANT PROGRAM AND I READ THROUGH I, THEN SHE ASKED, "SO, WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT GOING INTO THE MEDICAL ASSISTANT?" I REPLIED, "I THINK I NEED TO LOOK MORE INTO IT LIKE WHAT THEY DO." AND SHE ASKED, "DID YOU NOT READ IT?" I REPLIED, " I DID, BUT I JUST I WANT TO SEARCH MORE INTO WHAT THEY DO" SHE, THEN GRABBED THE PAPER THAT I READ ABOUT THE MEDICAL ASSISTANT PROGRAM AND TOLD ME WHILE READING OFF OF THE PAPER THAT THE MEDICAL ASSISTANT DOES ADMINISTRATIVE TASKS, WORK UNDER THE DIRECTION OF DOCTORS, AND OTHER BASIC STUFF. SHE READ OFF THE PAPER AS IF I DIDNT UNDERSTOOD WHAT I JUST READ. TO MAKE ME LOOK DUMB OR SOMETHING, BUT SHE JUST HAD TO BE UNPROFESSIONAL. I ASKED HER, "SOOOOOOOO, DO THEY LIKE GIVE SHOTS?" SHE REPLIES, "OH OF COURSE THEY DO." NO ###, THATS WHY I WANT TO LOOK MORE INTO WHAT THEY DO BECAUSE WHAT YOU JUST TOLD ME AND READ OFF THE PAPER WE BOTH JUST READ TOLD ME ### ABOUT WHAT THEY EXACTLY DO. I WAS SO ANNOYED. WHEN SHE KEPT ASKING ME THE SAME QUESTIONS, I HONESTLY JUST SAT THERE IN SILENCE FOR SO LONG JUST BECAUSE I DID NOT WANT TO SPEAK TO HER ANYMORE. SHE WAS RUDE AND UNPROFESSIONAL AND I WAS THERE FOR ALMOST THREE HOURS. I ALMOST.. ALMOST JUST WALKED OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF IT.

I agree with everyone that this school is nothing but a scam. They try to manipulate your grades and fail you when you have done your best. They treat you like children. I have never in my life seen or felt such bad ethics in this school. All the teachers are scam artists. Don't ever go to this school it's ###. All they want is your money, they will try to fail you everytime and only point out all the negatives.

I was in the VN program here for a little over 9 months. There were 14 people in our class to start out with and only 2 that's right 2 graduated. From the beginning I should have know it was a scam! Mr. Bowker... The school president is horrible and Mrs. Santiago horrible as well! In 1st term everything was extremely unorganized and the teacher was late everyday at least 15 minutes! The do called DON showed favoritism the ENTIRE time I was in school! After the 1st term was over we all figured it would get better... Not easier but better ( I know nursing school is HARD). It NEVER got better. In the 2nd term we were doing an EKG and the teacher disrobed ( shirt and bra off) so that we could do it on a live person. On of the students was uncomfortable and let the DON know and the DON disregarded the matter so the student went to the board of nursing with her complaint. They came in and investigated the matter and the instructor lost her job. From that point on our class was the black sheep of the school and they wanted all of us OUT! They managed to get all but 2 of us out! Congrats you 2... U made it they the FORTIS STORM! The board of busting came in another time for a so called survey visit ( that turned out bad because they were caught grade changing and the clinical sights were not sufficient). Look it up on the board of nursing website! I am now a student and Concorde Career Institute in Arlington TX and am so happy with this choice! I am not glad that Fortis kicked me out over petty things and because we got them in hot water with the BON AND ABHES... But I am happy that I found a school and was legit. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS MORE BEFORE GOING TO THIS SCHOOL! Talk to previous students! In the class after ours the DON Miss. Jackson let her daughter into the program and at one point I as well as other students had to go before a re entry board to be let back into school after an incident at clinicals and miss Jackson's daughter was on the board! After we were kicked out if school the DON miss Jackson put in her resignation and was still on our re entry board! PLEASE BEWARE! THIS SCHOOL IS BOT WORTH IT... GO TO CONCORDE AND BE HAPPY WITH UR CHOICE OF SCHOOL! Very very disappointed former student!

I attend the Fortis College in Largo Florida.
The comment above about changing grades is true at this college as well. I am in the nursing program and I am looking to change colleges because the instructors change grades for certain students and not for others. We recently heard that the Director of Nursing changes grades so that the students will fail out of school if she thinks they will not pass the NCLEX exam. Passing the NCLEX exam rates a nursing school higher and helps them get the NLN accreditation they don't currently have. Failing scores make it more difficult to get the accreditation so they control the outcome by failing students. So many of the students I talk to on break have passed classes and are now getting failing grades toward the end of their program. I interviewed at another school who confirmed they had heard the same thing from a former nursing instructor who left Fortis because of the dishonest practices. I have a Master's Degree from another college and held a 3.8 GPA. When I tried to discuss my issues with the campus president he defended the instructor even when she had 8 other students drop her class. He stated that maybe the work was above my scope of intellect. HA.. This coming from a man with no degree. These instructors teach one thing and test on completely different information and then say the problem is the student. The Department of Education needs to investigate this school. I don't know about the other locations but I do know that this location has very dishonest practices. Students are leaving in droves. The are Nationally accredited so your credits will not transfer to a Regionally accredited school either. The admissions rep. I met with told me they would. He also told me that the hours for the weekend program was 5-10:30 on Friday's but the truth is the clinical portion can be at any time on Friday and possibly during the week so the "flexible weekend hours" are not conducive to working during the week as most of us do. This whole experience has been horrible. Thankfully I just started there and have not wasted a great deal of money or time. There are other schools out there with the same accreditation or regional accreditation that cost far less than 48, 000. I for one am not going to take the chance of being failed out in the last few months because an incompetent Director of Nursing "thinks" I won't be able to pass. We are losing students in my classes every day. My advice is to avoid this school at all costs. Try speaking to some of the students and see how they feel. I plan on transferring to a regionally accredited school so that I can further my education if I decide that is the path for me.

I am considering attending one of their campuses for cosmetology. It is very difficult for me to decide how seriously I should take these reviews when most of you cannot spell or use proper grammar to save your life. How did expect to be successful in school when you can't type a coherent sentence?

I can't really understands why in this 21st century the American government/system still allowed a Fraud institute to like Fortis Institute Grand Prairie to exist in form of nursing school, all they know is how to Lie to people enroll them into the Fraud(Fortis) in order to swindle all their money and make them perpetual debtors overnight over student loan, showing favourite's to the natives American, treating them like 1st class citizens and changing their grades, while treating the foreigner's and the African americans as slaves, no instructors to teach how can a nursing student sat for an exam that is not been taught, The instructors AKA (DON) threatening to fall students even if they pass all their class work but she will fall them in clinical without them graduating, all the students right now at the Fraud Institute Called Fortis Institute Grand Prairie are scared and living in fear. The school is been manage like a personal poultry where the students are livestock that they slaughter them AS PRN MEDICATIONS when they feel like by dropping them off from the program when they feel like after collecting all their money, If any student try to express his/her right, the personal poultry manage and cohort will intimidate the student, gang up with false accusations and force the student out of the program, I guess the Texas Board of nursing, Better business bureau and all other bodies/organisations that have the interest of masses at hand should go and investigate that school by sharing surveys to students to voice their mind because those student die in fears ..Bounch of JOKERS..

At Annoyed Viewed, you left a word or two out yourself. Well I went to Fortis yesterday to get some program information. I was given test and tour and dome pricing information and an appointment to see a financial aid advisor..Well my appointment was for today. I called the school because I had gotten news from my doctor and the possibility of pregnancy. I didnt feel comfortable knowing my due date and program end date were around the same time, so I expressed how I felt. The admission advisor was rude and told me I was just making excuses and hes got an degree already. First of all Fortis I asked to start my program in sept. Or nov. I didnt say I was quiting. I was excited but now I see why people comment negatively. .im not even enrolled and theirmouths ard too fly for my money...lookin for another school!

My daughter is going to Fortis. She has gone two days and sat in the dark because the building had no power. Department head comment, "it does that when we get a lot of rain, the building is old and power goes out, just deal with it." Another day they go in during hot weather and there is not air-conditioning. She spent almost a week with no air. Then now it is 45 outside cold and raining. She just called, the air conditioner is on cold, there is NO HEAT and the Department Head is out and all the Instructors are afraid of her and won't call her to come in and turn the air off and the heat on. And there is no way they ever dismiss class because then they have to make up the time. And by the way, the intelligent Department head also forgot to plan holidays into the calendar so students now have to go extra days at the end of their term to make up for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

If I were you I would look for another place to put my money and education. There have been sub teachers come in and teach more and ask about thinks that have not been taught here that should have been and I just don't think they have it all together here. Run to another school to get your education is my advice. If they can't even manage a building I wouldn't count on them managing my education.

Your credits will not transfer to any other school if you go to Fortis, all the admissions office will tell you, if you ask is that it is up to the school, that's a lie they know it will not transfer, they are nationally accredited which means no one will accept their credits, if you're looking for a school go to a regionally accredited school, that's the only way you're guaranteed transfer credits. Stay away from Fortis colleges everywhere. They don't have a bad rep for nothing.

As the Vice President of Education, I'd like to thank you for sharing this common misconception about transfer credits.

The decision regarding transferability of credits is always at the discretion of the receiving school (or where you may transfer to) so there may be variability in the acceptance of credit. So that is not a "lie". This discretion applies equally to regionally accredited institutions where there is also no guarantee regarding the acceptance of credit. No college can guarantee the transferability of its credits to any other institution unless there is a written Articulation Agreement with that institution. In addition, please keep in mind that credits transferred from collegiate institutions will only be accepted if they apply to the student’s degree or certificate program and if they are comparable in nature, content, and level of credit to similar coursework offered by the institution you are transferring to.

However, at Fortis we are focused on providing you with a quality experience as a student and want you to focus on graduating from the program without the hassle of worrying about transferring to another college.

In general thought if you do anticipate transferring from one institution to another (whether they are regional/or nationally accredited) the best practice is to verify in advance with the potential receiving institution that you may transfer to whether they’ll accept the credit before you taking the particular course or attending the school. It is the student’s responsibility to confirm whether an institution will accept credits from Fortis.

Many institutions will accept credits from institutions that are accredited by an agency which is a member of Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). There are even institutions that will accept credit from institutions that are not accredited by CHEA provided they are recognized by the United States Secretary of Education. Transfer of credits from agencies which are not CHEA members are typically subject to additional scrutiny to validate that their academic programs adhere to the standards of institutions accredited by CHEA members.
