Kaplan University lost my college transcripts

I am a former student of Nebraska college of Business in Omaha ne. Kaplan University took over the college a few years ago and moved to a new location. I planned on finishing my associate degree this year and went to get copies of my Transcripts at the Omaha campus of Kaplan. I was told my folder was missplaced and to come back. Well they never found it and avoided trying to tell me it was lost. Kaplan lost my college transcripts and don't seem to give a rats as that they are gone! I can't finish college without them, I guess I'll have to sue for my tuition monies because if I don't not a *** thing will happen.

Academy of Art University lost my high school and college transcripts for the second time. I made sure that my high school and college mailed them out. I even requested a new copy from my college and paid 5 bucks to have it mailed again today and I hope it won't go missing. How can a school lose something so important for a student it is so unprofessional and makes them look so disorganized. This is incredibly frustrating at this point I am starting to consider going to community college cause this is ridiculous.

Kaplan University student accounts

After receiving several collection calls regarding to my balance with Kaplan University I have contacted my Students Account Representative several times questioning on how I can setup a payment plan with the university. After receiving no response from Mauricio Chacon, Student Accounts directly regarding to the issue of owing the school a current sum of $1, 190.00, I was advised to apply for further student loans and grants. After trying to contact with the general student accounts customer service department of trying to setup a payment option I was only given the option to speak with Mr Chacon to which the University has given me zero assistance with this issue. My last communication with Mr Chacon, cc: Teresa Benson, Academic Adviser was Friday evening, November 6, 2009 at 6:36pm Pacific time stating that I am disappointed with Kaplan and wish to withdrawal from the school. Furthermore, on Sunday, November 8, 2009 at 7:47pm I received a call from Kaplan University trying to collect a debt, to which I advised the representative, no name was given from the caller that collections calls cannot be made after 9:00pm and on Sunday and this call will be reported and this is going against the Fair Credit Reporting Act enforced by the Federal Trade Commission. The caller disconnected the call.

This school is a rip off. you have to apply for fafsa, and take out to loans in order to cover classes. with all that done done i stilled owed money out of pocket. the school is so expensive that your finical aid and loans don't even cover you expenses. I talked to about 4 different people, and i haven't resolved any thing yet! I need to obtain my transcript to attend another college and, some colleges don't even except there school credits. what a bummer

I have been trying to contact the student representative for days, when I finally got hold of one, she told me that she would call me within 24 to 48 hrs. But she didn't. One week later, I called that department and talked to Debra bailey, she said the same thing and never called again. It has been 4 days, and I have been calling her everyday but she doesn't answer her phone and never returned my massage.

This is very interesting! I received many collection calls from an agency on behalf of Kaplan University when there was nothing owed. I'm still in school, student loans are supposedly paying for my classes and had auto pay to credit card for expenses not covered by loans.
Kaplan denied sending me to a collection agency, my student loan lender knew nothing about it. I still have not received a explanation as to why my private information was given to a collection agency that called several times a day and night, anywhere from 6 am to Midnight for several months. It took a report to the BBB in Ohio with the request for reimbursement of funds for 2 classes to get them off my back. I also filed a complaint with my State Attorney General. My frustration has gotten to the point where a class action lawsuit should be filed, and an independent audit of their accounting practices should be done by the U.S. Education Department.

Kaplan University over charge & financial advisors do not respond

Hello,
My name is Jannie Turner, I am writing to see if some one can help me. I earned my Associates Degree at Kaplan University. The problem they where paid completely from two private loan I received from citibank. I started school 7-5-07 and by may 08, I had a balance owed of 10, 000 and some change The first loan I received was for 11, 000 to cover my balance in full. Then also in May 08, I took out a loan for 18, 000 to cover the cost tuition from may 14, 08, until June 2, 09 which is my completion date. after completion I had a credit of $5, 000. and some change. I was sent a check for $2, 500 and than check for $780, now Kaplan say I owe them $800 for January, $800 February and $800 for March. I had a discount also because I am military under chapter 35. They are holding my degree and transcript until money is paid. I do not owe this money but I am giving them 500 a month just to have my degree in my hand and that won't be until march of 2010. Please what can I do.

I just stated my first year at Kaplan univeristyOct 14, 2009.
I cannot get ahold of my Academic advisor when I need her; she doesn't return any of my call's within the 48 hour times period like she is suppose to or any of my e-mails.
She has contacted me twice to ask me, how thing's were going & if I had any questions.
(By the time she calls me back; I can't remeber what I was going to ask her in the first place).

My financial Aid officer hasn't contacted me back either in 3 weeks.
I asked for her to be removed from my case and they still have not removed her.
I need help and I cannot get any help.
I am angry that I'm being blowed-off after all the money they are getting each term.
We bring Kaplan in $3600.00 every 10 weeks and we can not talk to the people are are suppose to be assigned to our case?

The, I google Kaplan University complaints and I just about fell out of my chair.
This is what I am going through, right now!
I think I am leaving this school in June 2010 because they do not care about their students.

Kaplan University fraudulant charges

Students that are thinking about enrolling BEWARE!, They are liars and cheats and will ruin your chance of an education, your credit and you will pay dearly to get your transcripts back. They do not have educated people in Financial Aid. And when you figure their scam out they will not return emails or phone calls.

I was almost done with my Bachelor's in Criminal Justice when they locked me out of classes and told me I owed them $9, 000.00, I was horrified. What about my Pell Grants and loans? No one could answer that question except Financial Aid. They would not even return a call to my advisor. In the end I have lost. They reported me to a collection agency which is now on my credit and will not give up my transcripts. I now have to, along with other Kaplan Students hire an attorney to clear this up.

We need to join forces and file a Class Action Lawsuit. They are using our money for T.V. ad's to get more innocent victims.

I am in the same position. I am a student at Kaplan who transferred in an Associate's degree from a local college. At the time of the transfer, I wasn't told that my last 3 semesters at Kaplan would not be covered by financial aid because I would only be able to take 1 class each semester, which is below half time and therefore I am not eligible for financial aid. On top of this Kaplan wants me to sign a promissory note that I will pay $1, 484 each month for the next 3 months. My God, I'm a student -- I don't have a tree in my backyard where I can pluck a few $100 bills and pay this amount.

Kaplan's academic advisors are inept, not qualified and now I'm expected to pay for something the academic advisor should have caught a long time ago. Actually I realized it about half way through my degree plan and I was told not to worry about it!

I want to contact an attorney -- who wants to help me file a class action suit against Kaplan?! Please contact me at the email address below!

Kaplan University finanical aide

I enrolled in Kaplan on May, 28, 2009, started my class on June, 10, 2009. I have a B+, above average and 3.30 GPA. I know that I suppose to receive a disbusement every term as long as my grades are above a C average. Well any way every time it is time for my stipend to be sent out they seem to have a problem with my vertification. Since may it has been har d to talk to my finanical advisor and the only time she get in touch is when I call and complain. I think this school is one of the most unprofessional school I ever encounter.

I enrolled in Kaplan in June 2009 and I have never received my money either. At this time I am owed 37 hundred dollars and everytime I call they are missing a document except they never call and request this document and all my documents are in place. I do not know what is going on but when I call the business office they never return the call. I think someone is defrauding the government of our money.

Kaplan University unprofessional staff

I am a graduate of Kaplan College in Las Vegas I graduated with high honors in Medical Assisting and other than the school is the worst colleges ever, the last few months I have been dealing with career services to help me find a job for finaical reasons I had cancel an interview because it was about an hour away from my house and I have hardly any gas in my tank. One of the career serivce reps came to my house unannouned and proceeded to tell my how rude and disresectful I am that I am ruining Kaplan's "reputation" and she was going to take me off the schools "top 5" amung other things. She instulted me and embarressed me to no end! I payed $13, 000 to attend this school and I dont deserve to be treated like I am in elementry school! They can't give to craps about the students all the care about is themselves and their damn reputation. For people who are thinking of attending this school or any other Kaplan DO NOT WAIST YOUR MONEY! You will be treated like a child and you will be disrespected no matter how good of a student you are. I know a few staff members who quit because they couldn't take the abuse any further. I will not continue my education there anymore and I am encouraging everyone else not to!

I was supposed to be a graduate of June 2015 from Kaplan College in Las Vegas. They told me two days before I was supposed to finished that I failed my internship and they will try and get me another internship within the next two weeks so I wouldn't have to re do the class portion. They signed me up to late because they dicked around on the paper work. Non the less I redid my internship at Silver Hills Hospital the weekend after the 4th of July. I finished my 90hrs fairly quickly. My site coordinator said I did fine I just need to study on my coding. Well I still had to redo the class part so I did. Finished in the begging of Sept. Now it is October and they called me saying I only had 15hrs. I'm like no, no, no I finished. They said they might of lost the paperwork. Called me again same thing. Few days later they call saying that I failed my interhsip at Silverhills like wtf. They couldn't tell me while I was in the class portion after I finished my internship in July? They had from mid July-Sept to tell me and they wait till October. Oh get this now they are saying I failed a coding class which I took way before I failed my internship the first time at Rawson Neal. So it took them 4 months to tell me I failed a completely different class. Also if you have reading disabilities don't expect the staff to give you any leway. They will seriously take the test right out of your hand or make you feel like poo if you didnt finish in timely fashion. "I don't see why you are even in this field" "You are smart just maybe not the right kind of smart for this course".DONT GO HERE

Kaplan College in Dayton, Ohio is no better. They only care about money and not the students. When this college was Ohio Institute of Photography and Technology people wanted to go there and where happy. Students haven't applied to to Electrical program in months, and the students that are finishing the program can't stand to stay the whole class time. I can't wait to graduate and be done with this crappy school! I hope to God I can get a job with their name on my diploma. They are money hungry and I wish I would have done my homework on schools before I picked this one! I hope you [censor] at Kaplan read this and really take into consideration as to how your students really feel. I will NEVER recommend this school to anyone! NEVER!

Kaplan is about revenue not education. Unfortunately students fall for the advertising on TV and don't ask around at previous or current students. Kaplan is owned by The Washington Post... a newspaper running a school... that says it all. They should not be in the education business!

Kaplan University scam financial aid

I enrolled with Kaplan this summer, everything seemed fine but for the past two weeks I have been trying to get some answers in regards to finacial aid and covering my personal expenses. Well as you people know I got the blow off kiss, not once did anyone return e-mail, calls, or the persons I called keep sending me to someone else or not I direct answer to my inquiry. In fact they just stopped and/or ingnored me all together. Well, I know from personal experience having attended college before that if I stop attending they can not use my financial aid if it is before the halfway mark. Since they choose to treat me like a priah and because of all of these complaints I have dropped and I feel some gratification because they will not get any more from me, ha, ha. Do not let this happen to you, what a disappointment.

Kaplan University being ripped off and screwed over twice

Ok, well when i first started Kaplan i was fresh out of high school and went straight into into college. My mom had started going there when it was called hamilton so I thought it would be a decent school. Not only did they scam my mom out of money but all of her friends and even me. Well i dropped out and should have had pretty much a free ride from what i was told. Come to find out that wasn't the case. Well i re-enrolled here recently to do online because i don't have the time to do on the ground campus classes, i did have a complete free ride but have been treated very poorly, not only have they not kept me informed of what i needed to do, nor when my classes start, they had me 2 weeks behind on almost all my classe sbecause they didn't even keep me registered for my classes. Not only will i not finish my schooling with them, the 10 friends i had interested now want nothing to do with the college, they are finding other colleges. I really do hope this college gets caught with the finacial fraud, not only do they make it very obvious of what they are doing but alot of people are figuring it out and its only a matter of time before the students come back on them, not only will they be shut down but they will have to pay twice the amount of what they scammed us out on. Hope their ready.

Kaplan University employee/familiar with fa fraud

I was a Financial Aid Officer and military specialist for 5 years at Kaplan. I was rescently released from my posistion when i brough to My directors attention the fraud that our department was doing against military personel and veterans. How they certify and package students are not within the guidelines of the VA. They forge documents to clear the federal audits done once a year by the VA. For my first 3 years, they were clean and did verything according to the book. But once they were aware that this was a cash cow for there school, they pushed the enrollment of Vets and military service members, not telling them in detail how to activate there benefits properly, or the turn around time for it to be sent to them. In other words they pushed students to start school knowing id would not be available for at least 60 days, putting the student in debt with the University Causing harrassing phone calls and stress to the student. They also activated multiple benefits illegally. It is illegal to access 2 government aids at the same time. So Gi Bill and TA activated jointly is illegal. this is just 1 of the many things the school does for more money. In order to stay in the legal guidelines of 90/10, they show reprts of TA and Gi Bill, 1607, and 1606. But what is not shown in the reports is that they still activate the students title 4 funding and recieve there TA and the student pockets the GI. So they are not within the 90/10 rule. AGAIN ILLEGAL! If anybody is trying to post an investigation against kaplan, I can be reached at [protected]@yahoo.com and we can go from there. This is just the tip of the iceberge when it comes to there illegal practices. It is time they pay for there actions. I served in the Air Force and to see my brothers and sisters being used to keep there doors open really ticks me off. Lets make them pay for it.

Hello Mr. McDonald,
I am so sorry to bring this to you once again. However, I have been trying to resolve an issue that seems to have resurfaced since last year. I was notified on July 20, 2009 that I had missing documents with Financial Aid. I checked my documents on my homepage, and noticed it said "Default Clearance letter", it showed it requested on the 15th of July and due on the 15th of July, but that missing document had not shown on that page just days prior when I had checked, as I do at least a couple times a week. I did not understand what letter they were referring to, so I immediately began emailing in response to that notice that same night. The next day, the 21st, I received the next notice saying I would be blocked from classes if I did not provide "outstanding documents". I still had heard no response to my emails, so I called and was told what was needed, that I might have a defaulted loan out and need a letter from the lender, I replied that I did not know of a defaulted loan, so the gentleman transferred me to a manager in financial aid, she looked up my records and found that I had an outstanding defaulted loan from before I attended Kaplan. That clarified for me that it was the same loan that I had sent a defferment form in regarding, back in September of 2008, that I had chased around with my financial aid advisor, my academic advisor, and ended up getting your assistance on in March of 2009. (have continued attending classes since, and heard no more about that matter until now.) On the phone that representative assured me that she would pass the information to my financial aid advisor, Angela Cox, and she and her manager would correct the issue. I continue to get financial advisors calling my home and sending emails regarding the document and stating I am blocked from attending this coming term. Angela did what she usually does, is email me telling me that the registrar is responsible and I need to contact them. I called again yesterday, 7/23, spoke with another support representative, who again told me it was my financial advisor who was to help me with financial documents and she would get the information to a manager and get back to me by the end of the day. I heard nothing back.

Here is the deal. I sent a deferrment form by regular mail, emailed an attachment to my financial aid advisor, and faxed 3 times. I have called my advisor, emailed her, she passes me on to the registrar, I call them, they assure me they will look into it and will call back (but they don't). They also claim it is my financial aid advisor who is responsible. That form, or some proof that I am enrolled in classes at Kaplan, is needed by the lender in order to get them to release the default that I am in because they never received that form from Kaplan. I was not in default in 9/08 or in 3/08, because I did call the lender each time, who told me they would hold on for that form. I can do no more on my end. However, now I see I my whole Kaplan homepage has been disabled? That is new. So now I am completely banned from your school because of this? Please resolve this matter as I have been a top student at your school and done everthing I have been asked. This is my future that your school is affecting. Is this right?

Thank you for your time,
Gretchen Schultz

And I am constantly being passed around on the phone, when finally a representative would appear to be trying to help resolve my issue.

Kaplan University bait and switch

Company uses bait and switch and media hype to lure in new users. Can't bill the VA properly.[min 6 credit hours for half time] Representatives use vulgar and demeaning commentary when they can't get thier way.

Tech support :-) Gott to love them. They have no working knowledge of computer networks, nor how they work. They can't diagnose/fix thier own systems and any comments to fix thier side of the mix gets you nowhere. They continually blame the consumers equipment, even when it is functioning PERFECTLY.

The problem is server side after the switch from comcast level 3 line to att/qwest VPN dsl [apparently, other colleges have a level 3 pipe...] connection.

The reps wont answer emails until you call them first and spend an hour on the phone with them. They swear they will bend over backwards to fix your isses that never get solved. Then they make slanderous commentary torwards you and hide behind 'professional ettiquet'. If I have to tell someone three times to get something done, I'm already walking to thier supervisor's office.

I asked, even demanded to disenroll and have yet to be dienrolled. This was a week ago.As it stands I am suing for slander, if not VA payments for this year plus other funding mistakes as well. If you are a tusdent I STRONGLY SUGGEST you find another university like ITT TEch or U of P or Capella to attend.

I NEED HELP! How can kaplan be doing this to so many people.?!?!?!

I have been going back and forth with kaplan for the past 7 months. I am about to start my 4th year in my BS. They are telling me that I have used all my FA ($50450 and mind you the limit is at $57500) and that I will have to pay about $14000 out of my pocket for the final year plus $7000 for my next 3 terms of classes. I have called them every week for the past few months, and I get different answers. No one knows what they are doing. When I started reading other peoples complaints, I noticed they said something about the school is suppose to send us money directly. I never received any money from Kaplan. I have a 3.74 and mainted it through my entire 3 years here and now I cant finish because I cant afford it. They told me the reason for my having to pay such a large amount is a tution increase that occurred in my 2nd year, where the credit changed from 336 to 371. I dont know what to do but someone said to contact the Ombudsman, I hope this is a good start.

I am being sexually harrassed by my admissions advisor Roger Krane at Kaplan University in Florida. I want to report him, how can I go about to doing that? He calls me everyday, while he is high on crack, and tries to talk to me into having sex with him. He speaks very vulgar things including beastiality. I feel violated and scared that he will ruin my education because he is an advisor for the school. I don't know what to do. Can someone help me?

One writer suggested to attend ITT technical Institute. I suggest you guys stay away from that school as well. ITT Tech is just nationally accredited nor regionally accredited. Kaplan is regionally accredited. If universities will not take all of Kaplan's credits, guess what...they are not going to take ITT technical Institutes' credits at all. ITT Tech does not have university status.

Kaplan University financial aid department

Kaplan University has the worst financial aid department I have ever encountered. I enrolled in February of 2009. My enrollment advisor assured me that everything was a go before I enrolled. I immediately was blocked from my classes from the time they first started because of the financial aid department. I have not caught a break from them since. I am constantly receiving emails from the financial aid department saying that I have missing documents and that I will be blocked from my upcoming courses because of it. This is mostly due to the fact that when I fax them the documents they don't update my file. I am half way through my second term and got a bill for almost $3, 000 for my first term. It turns out that my financial aid advisor never applied my financial aid to my account and had me listed as student pay. I have even been in contact with the department of education a few times to make sure that everything was good on their end. I have tried to get in touch with my advisor and her manager on this matter several times this week and have yet to hear from them. I love the way the online set up is at Kaplan, and will probably be stripped of my credits because I can't pay them $3, 00o out of my pocket, but it's about time I cut my losses and move on to another school.

I have been a student at Kaplan University since August of 2006. Every term I have had issues with the Fianacial Aid depart at Kaplan University, if it is not one thing it's another. I am my last few weeks in getting my Associates Degree in Applied Science and here comes Finacial aid blocking my student loans. Grant you I have no grants what so ever and was fortunate enough that my student loans coverd tuition. I have been dealing with them for the last 4 weeks, I have documented every call, every person I speak with, and I have even emailed & left messages for the VP of the Financial Aid department. I have Fianancial Aid officers call me an idiot and that I should not worry about the little things, just as long as I get to attend class. I have made up my mind that once I have completed my lat few classes I am transfering out, I cannot take the incompentance of the Fiancial Aid department.

I can honestly say that that is the only department I have issued with, and if they could get their act together I think the compalints will stop at least that is my opinion.

I have been going to this school for almost three years now and expected to graduate in 2010. I have nothing but issues with their Financial aid because they always seem to be confused of who I am or why I am calling. They also seem not to understand their own paperwork that states certain things on my account and then they say what do you mean it states that? They are also six to seven months behind from what the other departments are doing and you would expect them to be up to date with their stuff since they are a big school. They caused nothing but stress for me and my family and it seems they really don't care. When I ask for a manager there is never one available or is able to answer my problems. I just want to get an education and know my FAO (Financial Aid Officer) can do her job without me having to check up on her! WHY HASN'T THE STATE AND FEDERAL GOVERNMENT BEEN NOTIFIED OF THEIR INCONSTANCIES!

I know where you all are coming from. Kaplan is a scam. I graduated last September of 09 and June of 2010 they changed my info and say that I ow them over 700 dollars, and I have proven that this is no true I have a copy of all my federal and private loans and how much is cost me to go to the school, and there is a credit of over 3000 and hmm they say I ow them over 700 dollars. I have my BA from Kaplan and they could not even write my name on it correctly and I had to demand another one with my name spelt correctly. I found a number for the corporate head quarters and the number is a good one.. [protected] headquarters [protected] compliance department. I would call them and hound them like they hound you.. What is good for the goose is good for the danger. I have called them everyday for 3 days at least 3 times a day, and they are getting up set, and today I asked them how dose it feel when someone is bothering you and or hounding you for information. This is what your financial aid department has been doing to me, and there still not doing there job. I have given them till 3pm today to call me back and guarantee that I can have an official transcripts sent to my present college and my self as well. or I will again start calling them everyday at least 3 times a day until this is taken care off.

Remember never back down from them and let them know this from the start, be stern and blunt and not rude unless they are rude to you.. I am beyond being polite to them and I let them know this. They took my money and a lot more. I have been telling everyone that they should run from Kaplan and never believe anything that they say because there nothing but liars. I only had one person that assisted me and she was an academic advisor and she was great...

I am trying to find a way to sue this school as we speak, because they need to be brought down and so they can not lie, cheat or continue to steal from people who just wish to go back to college.

I just recently graduated from Kaplan University in May 2010, but I had no received my B.S. Degree from them. Their Financial Aid is a total disaster because they said that I needed to pay over $7565.47 to them, or they will turn me over to the collection agency. I had written a short letter saying that I have not had a job in two years, and I do not have an income. I have been receiving harassing calls by their Financial Aid Office in Fort Lauderdale, Florida from Marcia Powell. I believed that this university online is a joke because I should of received my Information Technology Degree in the mail by now. The reason why I called Kaplan University a joke is because there financial aid is stupidity. I want to get a master's degree, but I guess I have wait several years before getting one elsewhere besides Kaplan University.

I was told that they accredit both the grant + the student loans, and sometimes that is not enough. It sounds shady to me as well.

They do have a pretty horrible fin. aid dept. They did something similar to me though it isn't holding me up (crosses fingers). I am eligible for education benefits form the VA, they had me as student pay as well. All the while they were to be collecting my VA benefits.. Nice! I am going to be contacting the VA regarding this- this is federal funds they are tampering with- as well as the board of directors for Kaplan (with a cc of the letter to the VA of course). You just really have to watch the Financial Aid dept. Most of them have no clue what they are doing. If there is a problem with your bill, keep at it until you get answers. And most of all, don't be afraid to hold them accountable.

I guess the only thing I can add, is that I have had my moments but took the time needed to take care of number one ME...I got to the bottom of my issues and have had them straightened out. Remember we are dealing with people here who are probably underpaid, and are used to cruising through the day at their job and dealing with people that will just take their crap and move on. Well I am not one of those people I had a academic advisor that was not here for me, so i got rid of her and got a new one. I had issues with financial aid. Boot to the head, got a new one who contacts me. We will keep getting stepped on as long as they realize they can do that and get away with it. As long as you continue to be a lemming and follow the advice of someone else on here who cannot or will not do what it takes to take care of themselves that you will be treated the same way. I have no problem of both letting them know and then following through on the fact that I have nothing to do on such and such a day except crawl up their butt and stay there till we resolve MY issue. It is really that simple.

I agree..run from Kaplan they are HORRID. The only department that can seem to find your number and call you is Collections! My Advisor nor my Financial Aid person ever called me back. It was horrible. The WORST experience I have ever had in my life. I dropped my classes because of the death of one of our children and I was told "oh well..sorry to hear that but you still have to pay." WHAT? I never even went to one class, I asked to drop the class..I begged...begged them to call me back and they never did. Not until the collections started in. One called me today and actually used the F word with me. Yep..true. I asked him to stop calling (4th time I have) and to send me something in writing and he REFUSED! I will not pay a bill I don't have in writing. This school is INSANE. RUN Far and Wide from Kaplan, it is the worst excuse for a school I have ever seen.

Kaplan University dropped/unlawful charges

Kaplan is the biggest joke of a university! I did nothing but argue with them from day one of my 2yrs with them. They would not send me money left over each term, instead, they would keep it and say I had none left, which I did...The class content was always screwed up and I would write the Professor about mistakes I found and she in turn would turn the complaint in, of course, Kaplan knew it made them look bad when a student was always finding mistakes with the class and they weren't smart enough to figure them out in the beginning. I was locked out of my classes many times. This past March 2009, I was finished with my AAS in medical assisting and they told me I could not graduate because I had a fee I had to pay, which was false. They ended up dropping me from Kaplan, so guess what? I don't graduate and I am out $63, 000...But the joke is on them because I have hired a lawyer who is getting them on 6 different counts..We will win this because I have a the proof of moneys, student aid, etc...Kaplan will have to pay for my schooling and owe me 2.5million...

I tried to take classes via the internet in June, 2007 and dropped out in July, 2007 due to their messed up system - would get the message "Assignments successfully submitted" but the get messages back from the "professors" stating that they never got them. The classes only lasted about 4 weeks. Since that time, my federal income tax refund has been taken from me - over $3, 000.00 due this school. I had sent several letters to the BBB in both CA & NY where the collection agency was, then later the attorney general's office in FL whom have said that they have received several complaints about his school and are "working on it" and "it could take several years". Hello, I've already dealt with this garbage for several years, time for the attorney general office to actually do something about it. We need to get a group together to really go after this school. Over $3, 000.00 taken from me without any proof of a grade or credit. WRONG!

Hi to all of you. I too am a victim of Kaplan University scam. I've been going to Kaplan for the past three years and attending classes in the Legal field to become an attorney, I had so much trouble in the beginning with Kaplan not getting my fianancial aid and loans taken care of that I was on the phone with them everyday for three months threatening them with the United States Attorney General's Office here in Michigan. They finally took care of the money situation, but have since decided that they want to place me in classes that I didn't want to take. I called them and left many messages for my academic advisor in regards to this situation. Her name is Kayla McClain and she's the one who has dropped the ball with cancelling my classes and then I find out that I want to transfer elsewhere to receive to my law degree, as Kaplan is not associated with the American Bar Association. I had to pay for my transcripts to be sent to two different colleges and now am locked out of my classes that ended on the 5th of October 2010 in which I needed to make up some work and had persmission form my professors to do so. Kaplan said that once I decide to transfer out of Kaplan I'm blocked from the website entry. How do you like that? If anyone else has had bad dealings with Kaplan in this regard please contact me via my e-mail adress: cookimomm2@comcast.net

thanks alot and good luck with you lawsuit as well.

Kaplan University drug use

my fiance goes to Kaplan University in north sacramento for nursing and all i see there is drug addicts and thugs. I don't see hoe how they let these girls there get away with coming into class high, getting high at lunch on the property, or the bathroom. I mean you would think that they would want someone who will have other peoples lives in their hands to be sober right? and they all seem to be passing, although it also seems like all they require to pass is show up. I think attendance is most of their grade. My fiance can't read or write or do math but she holds a 4.0 because she shows up everyday. are they just in it for the money or what? I mean they just fired a TEACHER there for coming to work spun out on meth. i guess if your a drug addict looking for a quick degree in something, kaplan university on Watt Ave. and I-80 in sacramento is the place for you. it scares me to think if i go to the hospital I my nurse might be on something or trying to steal something from me while I'm under.

If your fiance can't read or write then she shouldn't even be in college...Hell, he/she should go back to the first grade. Drugs are expected everywhere so that is no surprise and I agree with the comment before...did you post about the institution that dispersed the GED or HS diploma cuz them dumba**es should be fired. You're at Kaplan University, what is the complaint? Drugs are to be expected. ###, drugs are everywhere. You can't get away from it. And if he can read, write, or even count, the government should pay him for being mildly ###ed. A 4.0, that's ridiculous.

I hope you also took the time to post about the High School or GED program that graduated your fiancee or granted her a certificate of completion before teaching her to read and write. They gave her the tools to gain admission into college and bring down the level of education that the thugs and drug addicts are working so diligently to receive.

Who took her admissions assessment test for her? They are the real criminal.

With any luck, maybe your fiancee won't be doubling as your nurse in the near future.

I checked the California Board of Nursing RN exam results and the last year recorded, 75% of students at Kaplan Nursing passed the boards. This is a OK result I think since many other community colleges and universities scored the near the same or worse (although many scored much higher). I agree the college is most likely not as rigorous in education as "real" colleges as it is for profit. However as a RN myself who has taken the board exams I can assure you anyone who passes them has the appropriate knowledge to practice nursing. Any nurse can have bad character which is usually not tolerated in the work environment, even with the nursing shortage.

Kaplan University tryin to get me for money!!!

I had applied for college online classes through Kaplan University and was approved quickly! After I got started, the classes were so demanding that I wanted to quit and go to a local college. THEY were so MAD! Tried to talk me into staying for the first ten weeks, gave me the quilt trip, claimed that I had to wait so much time to get my balance due...yeah right! I personally called the Bank of America and quickly cancelled my loans because Kaplan stated that it was going to take 30-60 days before they could give me a balance-yeah wanted to get my loan money that I would have to pay back! Then I called them back and they said I had to wait 20 days and call for a balance. Just today I heard of this site and I quickly sent them an email and told them that I saw their name on this list and I wasn't going to pay JACK! For 2 weeks they were going to make me pay almost $1000.00! I'm a single mother-they can think again, I'm not stupid! Nice try Kaplan! I couldn't ever get anyone when I called and everyone I talked to had a different story-imagine that!

There is a separate body of law that governs public and private universities where students received financial aids. Generally, if a student disenrolls or was disenrolled, the school loses the federal aids money. In reading this comment and other comments posted on this site, Kaplan may have engaged in some unscrupulous business practices. Most consumer law attorneys will take a look at the case, on a contingency basis, and investigate as to cause of action.

I AM SO HAPPY I SAW THESE COMMENTS. I WAS THINKING ABOUT ENROLLING WITH KAPLAN BUT, IF THEY'RE GOING TO RIP PEOPLE OFF I DONT WANT ANY PART OF IT.I SEE MOSTLY ITS ABOUT FINANCIAL AID PROBLEMS, SO AT LEAST THE ACADEMIA PART IS FINE. I THINK THAT THEY SHOULD TELL CURRENT & AS WELL AS PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS THE TUITION RATE. THIS ISNT FAIR TO ANYONE! PEOPLE HAVE RESPONSIBILITIES, PRIORITIES, & ETC. KAPLAN NEEDS TO LET EVERYONE KNOW UP FRONT WHAT THE BUSINESS IS.IM ALMOSTED FINISHED WITH MY A.S. IN PARALEGAL STUDIES I WANTED TO OBTAIN MY B.A. IN LEGAL STUDIES & THEN MAYBE ONE DAY I MIGHT WANT TO ATTEND AN ACCREDITATED LAW SCHOOL.BUT IM GLAD I DIDNT GET INTO ANY OF THIS FOOLISHNESS! THE SCHOOL I ATTEND ITS ONLY $78.50 PER CREDIT HOUR SO IF YOU LIVE IN THE BROWARD OR DADE COUNTY AREA I SUGGEST YOU GO TO MIAMI-DADE COLLEGE OR BROWARD COLLEGE THAT WAY YOU'LL GET MORE BANG FOR BUCK.AND NOT GET PLAYED FOR FINANCIAL RESOURCES. ITS A RECESSION THATS WHY WE'RE TRYING TO ENROLL IN COLLEGE/UNIVERSITY TO BETTER OURSELVES & MAKE MORE MONEY BUT, IF THINGS LIKE THESE ARE GOING TO BE GOING ON WHY GO? YOU DONT WNAT TO BE STUCK OWING OVER $45, 000 AFTER YOU THOUGHT YOU WERE GOING TO BE IN FINANCIAL FREEDOM. GIRL GOOD LUCK IN YOUR STUDIES I WISH YOU THE BEST! FROM MS.GUCCI

Kaplan University customer service

I am currently gainfully employed full-time making a decent salary with benefits and have a Bachelor's degree from an accredited state university. I curiously explored the option of several online education services thinking I might possibly further my existing education and 15 years of experience with additional certification. I contacted Kaplan along with a few other firms. I received a call today from a Kaplan representative stating they had been trying to reach me for some time. In reality, I believe they left one phone message and today's call just happened to be the second attempt they had made.

The female representative began to explain to me Kaplan's offerings. I had expressed interest in Medical Office Management courses. This representative had a very rude attitude. When trying to inform her of my interests and what type of program I felt would best serve my learning habits and schedules, she interrupted me more than once. I finally said that I was not intersted in speaking with Kaplan any further if this was the type of heavy-handed tactic they used with potential students. The representative then said I was, "clearly not Kaplan material." You think? I just laughed and hung up.

After doing further research on complaints against Kaplan, it is evident they have issues. I read more and more financial horror stories. With such poor solicitation representives, I can only imagine how they treat you once you actually sign on the dotted line. As previously mentioned, I have a Bachelor's degree from an accredited state university and more than enough experience to know that Kaplan would not be the route the go. Beware!

Kaplan University scaming students

The academic advisors and financial aid department are not helping the students. I made several attempts to reach both, during my two years and they never respond. Then they make you jump through hoops on a deadline date and tell you it must be done or you can not keep going. (I did recently acquire an advisor that did try to help, only to be shot down) They do not communicate with other departments, (academic advising, degree planning, etc...) the needed requirements in each program to ensure the students will graduates on time. They utilize natural disasters against the students to get more money out of them. They delay your graduation, they do not help the student comply with financial aid requirements to help the student succeed. Their mission statement is false advertisement.

I sincerely believe they do their best to prevent the student from completeing any program on time and will intentionally cost the student as much, out of pocket or more student loans, as possible. They dangle your degree in front of you keeping you throwing out more money to finish, but you won't get there until they are through milking everything out of the student mentally and financially or until the student gives up and has no degree and obligations to student loans.

Kaplan University charging tuition without sudents knowledge

My name is Patricia Wilhite, I was a student at Kaplan University, taking Criminal Justice. I almost graduated until they locked me out of classes. I was not informed that I no longer had Financial Aid. Instead Kaplan ran a tab to the tune of $8904.00, locked me out of the classes they had charged me for during finals, which ruined my GPA of 3.67, and caused me to fail the classes.

I do not believe that this is just to any student. I see them advertise to students, my advise is seek another University. Thanks to Kaplan I cannot get a degree because they will not release my transcripts, they ruined my credit by putting this bill against my credit.

I cannot afford at this time to hire an attorney to have this straightened out, however, I am seeking help. I do not believe it is legal to run a tab so high that students cannot continue their education. Myself and an adviser tried repeatedly to contact Financial Aid to resolve this however, no one would return calls or emails.

Here is a letter that I sent to Kaplan: No one has responded, I am not surprised.

To Whom It May Concern:

I am writing this letter as a complaint of how unprofessionally I feel the financial aid office and the advisors are at your University.

I enrolled in you University in the summer of 2006. I chose the School of Criminal Justice. The admissions department sold your school as being top rate. As I pursued my education in this field I found that there was never an adviser available to help. My adviser changed several times so I never knew who I was to talk to.

Each class that I took was scheduled and books were sent. I was under the impression that my pell grant and student loans covered my courses. I was NEVER informed that it was not.

Kaplan kept enrolling me into each class of my course study however, in the summer of 2008, while I was at the end of my classes (Crisis Intervention and Juvenile Justice) I was blocked from finishing the finals without any notice of what was taking place. I contacted the school immediately and spoke with Brian in the adviser area. He told me I needed to speak with a Ms. Shepherd in financial aid. After leaving many messages and not getting any response I contacted Brian again. He sent emails and tried on several different occasions to contact Ms. Shepherd in financial aid, he never received a response either. As a result I received a low and failing grade in each of those classes, and was not able to continue my education. This is all within months of receiving my degree. If you look at my grades you will see that I am an “A” and “B” student not a “D” and “F”.

After persistent tries I finally was able to talk to someone to find out what was going on. I was horrified to find out that I was cut from classes because of an $8, 904.00, tuition bill. I was never informed that my pell grant and student loans were not covering my classes. Due to the lack of professionalism with the financial aid and advisers, I have lost my chance at a higher education. There is no way that I can possibly pay that kind of money.

Thanks to Kaplan University, I will not be able to finish my long desired dream of having a higher education. I believe your school sets people up to take their money and puts them in financial and educational ruins. Your school has since turned this amount over to a collection company and is withholding my transcripts.

I will follow through to inform others who may be considering Kaplan as an educational facility of what they may be in for.

I was never given the chance to say I cannot afford this, or I cannot enroll in anymore classes until I find the means to pay for it. Your school took it upon themselves to keep enrolling me until the $$$$ was so high it became impossible to pay.

I would also like to have the last two classes that I took removed from the amount and the grades, since I was not given the chance to complete the classes because I was locked out.

I look forward to your response in this matter.

Sincerely,

Patricia M. Wilhite

Patricia,

I don't know if you just described YOUR situation with Kaplan University, or MINE.

My story is absolutely identical to yours. I had no problems with Kaplan until April 2008. Well, no problems except having 4 financial aid advisors. Now, yesterday, I receive a call from Student Accounts telling me that I am "severely past due" - when Kaplan just sent me a check for $1200. I'm thinking... if I owe you [the school] money, why are you sending me a check... When I had received it, I called financial aid, and they said that "everything is fine, that is left over money from your loans to cash"..

Suddenly now, I owe $6000+. Out of pocket. WHY do they keep registering you and allowing you to take classes when you obviously owe them money?

Seems like shady business practices to me.

My email address is chatwitkat@aol.com. Please contact me. Maybe if all of us band together - maybe we can get a resolution, somehow, some way. This has to be illegal.

Kaplan University scam and cheating

My son had decided to attend Kaplan online and was applying for student aid, he is 19 and employed, he kept telling us that they needed certain information from us, at first we complied, it all sounded reasonable, then he said they needed for us to apply for a loan, outside the usual fasa request, this was after giving them our info, we have a better than average credit rating, I guess this is why they tried to put us on the hook for this, we of course refused, so my son was looking for alternative financing. That was when he discovered 1 year at Kaplan would cost more than $14, 000, for a degree that would not be honored. How is this legal? They need to be shut down, this is not only fradulent it's cruel. Their financial advisers are not only immoral but rabid telemarketers.

Dealing with the salesman who called me saying he was a Sr. Advisor was an experience in cheap pop psychology aimed at duping the consumer. I know I should have read the reviews first but was overwhelmed with Kaplan's fast and hard sell and the fact that I really wanted to go to school to finally get a degree after 22 years of academic inertia. When I told the advisor I wanted to cancel the agreement and wanted my $1000 back, he was rude. Hmmm... 3-5 wks for a refund. Scary, Scary! When I called in the early morning trying to cancel, they said I must speak to my advisor who only comes in during the late afternoon. In spite of me emailing him the evening before with a cancellation request when I had my epiphany to check the reviews before the 3 day cancellation window passed, the advisor called me today asking if I was ready to sign up for my classes. I told him I had called that very morning to have a guy named Tim Fritz get my cancellation going and that Tim said he would email him, (the advisor) and the advisor sounded surprised. HMMMM... I was then told I had to talk to Marvin the Associate Manager who needed to know why I wanted to cancel. Instead of Marvin taking it from there, he told me I would have to be transferred back to the advisor to finish the process. Marvin was mad when I asked him to repeat his title for me. The advisor was busy so Marvin said he would have to have the advisor call me back. Yep, you guessed it... no call back. I emailed the advisor and I got a short, abrupt, you no longer are my sales target attitude and was told it would take 3-5 weeks for a refund. Hmmm... bad business. I hope I get my $1000 back.

Kaplan University first contacted me on Feb 12, 2009 via my online inquiry. The admissions advisor was very personable and friendly. After spending an hour on the phone with them the stated that I needed to fill out enrollment forms and forward those along with my FASFA information. I did so on the 14th and a week went by with no reply from the advisor or any one at Kaplan. I called the advisor and was told my email was mistakenly directed to their spam folder. They apologized and gave me a $1000 voucher to go towards my final semister before graduation. Basically a coupon for $1000 off the cost of tuition.

I then had to take an Academic Readiness test online which consisted of 30 questions upon which you get 8 minutes to complete. They do not expect you to answer all questions in the alotted time as the questions get more difficult as you proceed through the test. I submitted the test and the following day received an email from the admissions advisor that I did FANTASTIC and to give them a call so that we could begin registering for classes.

When contacted the advisor asked me how many questions I answered. Now I'm thinking if they have the test there in front of them they should know how many questions I answered. I replied that I had no idea. They said I got 26 right. I know for a fact I did not get through to 26 questions. I may have gotten to 15 but not 26.

They immediately transferred me to a class advisor who was to register me for classes but was told they could not find the results of the test and that my assigned advisor would call me the next day at 1:00. By 2 o'clock a call was yet to be received. I contacted the advisor and got the impression that they had no idea they were to call me. They stalled a while and then it seemed as though they were distracted. I was then told they 'might have to go into a staff meeting. Oh yes, we have to go into a staff meeting. I call you back right after the meeting.'

These red flags along with all the report about Kaplan help me to make up my mind to un-enroll from Kaplan University before I was out thousands of dollars like I have read about on [redacted].com.

Thank you everyone who has been kind enough to share your Kaplan misfortunes with the rest of us. I'm sorry for your struggles but will pray that the Kaplan reaps what they sow!

If you check with the Department of education that is FAFSA rules for dependent students not the schools.

www.chea.org shows the level of accred. and the validity of a degree.

I am attending Kaplan now.
And I disagree with this blogger. I switched from U of Phoenix, because the first term my grades were driven by the "CLASS " project where 3 out of 19 people actually did the work.
And the U of Phoenix instructor had no clue about subject matter which he stated that at the beginning of the class.

When I asked for information from Kaplan, I got a quick response. The advisor interviewed me and told me about my options. They were friendly and explained everything. Then they transferred my call to a Financial officer who helped me get through that mess.

My class advisor has helped me on a number of occasions. It is always my choice, and my plan.

My instructors have all worked in the fields they are teaching in.
I feel that Kaplan is a much better learning environment and gives a better value.

Kaplan University awful place

After enrolling in Kaplan for my BA in paralegal, I decided to look for them on the web to see if I could find out more about them and I found a lot of bad press. I then called my admissions rep Greg Rounds to voice my concern. He asked where I got my information from and I told him complaintsboard. He then went on to tell me how the people posting to complaintsboard where people who didn't do what they were supposed to do and that they were the ones at fault for their problems at Kaplan. It was as if he was reading from a script. I then said ok and told him that I would investigate the matter further. I found many more sites with the same 'shady' stories about Kaplan.

I then called back and spoke with Greg Rounds and explained to him that I had found many sites and law suits that involved Kaplan. I then asked him to unenroll me. He asked if I would send him an email stating that I no longer wished to be enrolled in Kaplan and he would take care of the rest. That was on Feb. 5, 2009. I thought it was over and I had gotten away from Kaplan with only losing the application fee of $45.00.

Last week I received an email from a Lauren Eldridge about my classes. I forwarded the email that I sent to Greg Rounds about un-enrolling and asked that I be contacted if this had not been done.

Yesterday I received an email telling me that my books were being shipped UPS. I then called and Greg Rounds and Lauren Eldridge were not taking calls. I was able to talk to a girl in financial aid. She said that she would make a note on my financial aid that I was not going to be attending and for me to just refuse the books. That would be fine except I am not home during the day because thats when I work and I live in a resort community and all UPS/FED-EX packages requiring signatures are taken to the hotel where they are signed for out of courtesy and packages can be picked up from there. I tried explaining this to the girl, but she acted like I was lying. Any ways I then emailed Greg Rounds and Lauren Eldridge trying to find out why I was being sent books. The only one who replied to my email was Lauren Eldridge and the email she sent back was a joke. It said: 'I assume you are still not planning on attending. Please reject this package when it arrives.Thanks'.

Ok, which part of I want to be un-enrolled wasn't clear. I am beginning to feel as if I signed a contract with the devil. These people are a joke and so is the school. I went to the hotel this morning and asked for them to reject any packages that come for me. I can only hope that my Kaplan experience will be over soon, but I have a feeling there will be more problems.

I would like to thank all of you that took the time to write about your own experience with Kaplan. This kept me from making the same mistake.

i couldn't even CONTACT HER and when i did she NEVER ANSWERED THE PHONE..

so i called the school telling them to unroll me also and they told me to do something about my financial aid or something so i did.. later on they still told me they didn't received it im like i just did it days ago later on i get a 2, 000 bill.. they sent half to a lone an the other half they kelp so now they telling me i owe them 500 dollars and i owe the bank 2thousand..

they threaten me saying if i don't pay it then its going on my credit in 30days.. i didn't believe them and didn't care because i didn't have a job at the time they were just trying to get money/

Henry, This did not happen to me! The $45.00 I spent went toward my first tuition. I hate to say this but most of what I am reading here is pretty lame.
Kaplan is a good place, even my books were included in the tuition, and it was not as expensive as where I went before.

So far, I am doing well with my classes and am able to get the help I need. My questions have been answered everytime that I have called my advisor.
They are friendly and get the answers I ask for.
THERE was NO application Fee! What are you talking about?/

And by the way, I have googled Kaplan, and haven't found any "shady" stories anywhere.

Kaplan University great education, terrible student accounts department

I started Kaplan's MBA program in August 2007. I was excited about the emphasis program I chose, it was unlike any other school's program. My admissions advisor was extremely attentive (but not pushy like some have said) and Kaplan was one of the recommended schools from my company who would be reimbursing me for much of the costs.

The curriculum itself I've found to be appropriately challenging. I feel I've learned a great deal through the course discussions. Most professors I've found to be fair, but I have had one or two that I feel were not appropriately administering Kaplan's policies. I don't feel any class has been a waste of time and have definitely picked up lots of good information that I apply daily in my job.

My major complaint, and its big enough I struggle with recommending Kaplan to friends, is dealing with different personnel from the school. My academic advisor is absent about 95% of the time. Ignorning phone calls and emails. Randomly she'll send a "good luck this term" email or leave a similar message. But she never responds to my requests to her.

Worse than that, is dealing with the Student Accounts department. My company is reimbursing me for most costs associated with my program. When I started at Kaplan I was told I could be billed per term, rather than by month - and that I could have my tuition deferred until the end of each term so that the time between making my payment and receiving the reimbursement from my company was very small. Well, my billing kept getting switched to monthly (against my request/wishes and without my knowledge) and the tuition deferment kept disappearing off my account. This leads to 2-6 calls a day from Kaplan with a recorded message about "fulfilling my educational committment". When I answer and "stay on the line" to speak to an agent I always get disconnected. When I try to CALL the student accounts numbers direct, I rarely get a live person. On the rare occasion I DO get a live person - the minute I explain that I need to be billed per term because it makes it easier for me to file my reimbursement request - I get transfered to someone in business affairs who never returns my call. So, I normally spend 2-3 weeks of every month sending repeated emails to student accounts to correct their weird billing errors. And to be clear - I'm not a deadbeat. I long gave up on the tuition deferment attempts. Within 1-2 days of each terms charges being applied to my account - I make the payment. However - those amounts differ from whatever imaginary payment plan student accounts has me on - so they continue to cite me as past due even though my account balance is $0 for all but about 2 days of every term. The only person who ever DOES respond to my calls and emails is the financial aid officer assigned to me - which I don't understand since I don't USE financial aid - who tells me she has tried to change my account to per term billing numerous times and someone in student accounts always changes it back. I'm currently in my second to last class and can't WAIT to finish just so I don't have to deal with these ridiculous billing problems any longer.
