I was called to a house the other day by a dear friend of mine to check out a green mizer energy box that he bought from the company called light power solutions, llc. As i thought he had it installed by a installer from the company and not a liecneces electrican. This brings up a BAD problem for the home owner because it only takes one wrong move in a box to cause fire. I would like everyone to know about this if you buy this product PLEASE get a liecnesce electrican to do the work. This company has no idea what they are doing to people's homes. And for electrian's like myself that are having trouble finding work this makes me mad cause they are not pulling permits and that is wrong.

I would like to say that ALL products that you install on a breaker panel must be done by a electrician or by the home owner. He can not give permission to do this by law. Every state has laws on this so you best check it out before you get a lawsuit on you and your company. I just left the office of the labor and licenseing board of AL to file a complaint on this company and to give pictures of there box and how they installed it on this guy's house. So i guess we will see if your company is doing it right. I think i will file a complaint in a few more state's to just for the hell of it now cause people like to make fun of people that tell the truth and are concerned with other people.

Please copy the receipt to prove that they bought this product for LPS and we will have them taken care of immediately. As For Mr. John Solva, This is not the same company as UMA ! This company is from Jacksonville Florida and the CEO is Mr. Mark Beckwith. So before you go spouting off at the mouth, know what your talking about.. You must be a former employee of UMA or something like that and are bitter because you couldn't make it. Please Mr. Joe's Electric, post the proper paper work on this complaint and we will have them taken care of immediately..

Light Power Solutions and UMA ARE the same company. Only the name has changed. The Flordia address is the home of Mark Beckwith, who is kinfolks to Gary Light. Same people, same everything, just a different name. Why? To much bad history with UMA.

Do you have any proof that tis is the same company or are you just shooting off your mouth trying to make this company look bad.. If you have proof I'd love to see it. If not, then why don't you keep your mouth shut!

Wow, Larry must have stepped on ripstero8's toes. If he is part of Light Power Solutions, I'm sure he would like Larry to keep his mouth shut. But the truth is, Larry is telling it RIGHT. I don't know what kind of proof ripstero8 would like. The truth is Utility Management Association was the name until after the 1st of the year. At that time GE Credit pulled their financing because of a deal with no credit application. To get financing back UMA hired a GE "bigwheel" by the name of Greg Rogers and changed the name of the company to Energy Innovations. But that wouldn't work because there is a company in Texas by that name, so after a couple of months the name was changed to Light Power Solutions. The address was also changed from Tupelo Mississippi to Jacksonville Flordia to try to cover the tracks. Why are they trying so hard to disassociate themselves from UMA? Could be the pending lawsuit against them by KVAR, or the lawsuit coming from former associates. Yes, I'm sure ripstero8 would like everyone to "shut their mouth". And they are trying hard to do just that. Just ask Duane who was fired for telling them of all the problems they have. Or contact any of their present or former employees and or associates. Or better yet, why don't you call Greg Rogers, the president of LPS and ask him how much authority he has without Gary Light saying "yes". His number is [protected] See if he will outright lie to you about UMA v/s LPS. You want proof? There is lots of it out there, from the products sold, where the dinner invitations are printed, to the people holding the seminars. Yes, I'm sure they would like for us to "shut up", but it isn't going to happen. You can run but you can't hide.

WOW, Ray Done sounds a lot like the two so-called "christian" brothers from georgia that got fired from UMA and SolarTEK.. The [censored]lets is their name and I can put their info on here too but I don't work that way.. These are the same guys that go around preaching to people and then call in on LPS conf calls and spout racist crap.. One thing is for sure.. Complaints board lets anyone post garbage on their site and anyone that uses this as a reliable source is foolish.. Remember boys, what goes around comes around.. Pray that it never comes my way because in person you can't hide behind a monitor..

So Ripstero8, your posts are certainly off the wall! I've been hearing what goes on and what is said on those conf calls and in my memory, there has been no racist talk, only people dissatisfied with the new rip-off pay structure, told to turn themselfs into high pressure sales persons by playing the "I have to call my manager to see what we can do for you" game instead of being straight and honest with them. There are just so many things that went wrong with this company in it's transition to so many new products, installation problems, total confusion, unethical and unfair treatment of it's seminar holders and installers. For the decent and good people I have met who have left the company on their own or were let go, "God speed and grace" May you find a job where you truly help people and are shown respect for doing it instead of being called negative or non productive.

Folks, these people are telling the truth. The paperwork you sign says the company you are dealing with is in FL. But, the number you call rings in Belden, MS, the same building that UMA (Utility Management Association) was/is headquartered in. Don't believe me? Do this: call [protected] and tell them you live in whatever state and that you are a UMA customer and you are trying to get hold of any of these folks: Mike Bresnihan, Jr, Joe Hammacher, Greg Rogers, Ray Casario, Dave Cowden, Suzanne Light, Duane Garner. You won't get any of them, but the response will be that they either work there no more or are unavailable. Leave a BS message. Say you are having a problem with something installed. Wait a few days, call back the same number, say you are a Light Power Solutions customer and say the same things. The response will be essentially the same.
To be completely honest however, I'm not really sure it matters. The above posters are correct: this is a company on its way out run by dishonest people. The products however are for the most part legit. Just a bad company with no future being run by Greg Rogers, a former GE bank rep who knows little about selling and even less about motivating salespeople or running a business this size (which is ok because by the time Gary Light catches on to this fact the company will half or less the size it is now), and Joe Hammacher, a guy who ran a similar business into bankruptcy before coming to UMA/LPS. The name was changed because the reputation of UMA was so sullied that they had no choice but to change it... they WERE going to lose their financing. I am a current LPS rep and this is what we were told on a conference call. All of this is ok though. The former national sales director started a company doing the same thing (it's struggling a bit with cash flow issues) but a former Regional Sales Manager with tons of cash is also starting one, and from what I hear has commitments from more than 15 teams to come over. I'm one of them...

And Joe's Electric? It doesn't ALWAYS take an electrician to do things like that. If it did, it would be mandated by law. Just because you have license doesn't mean we have an ethical or moral obligation to make sure you are employed. You want to make some money? Charge less. Call UMA/LPS and offer to run around a 4 to 6 state area doing installs for the same fifty dollars the installers make... compete. It's the American way. You don't have a right to Happiness... just the PURSUIT of it...

No, we cannot meet. I am one of the reps that will be leaving LPS to work for a former Regional Manager that has a start up doing the same thing, but with the old pay plan and plenty of money to back it up. Meeting you would require losing my current job. If you're so confident in the company, you let everyone know who you are. I need to pay my bills until then. Of course under the new pay plan that's all I can do. But that's the idea that Greg has. Replace us all with lower paid people.

By the way Joe's Electric... I noticed that you didn't say the install was wrong, because it wasn't. It isn't rocket science. It's actually VERY simple. But, like most Americans, you feel STRONGLY you HAD A RIGHT to be paid extra to do that.

For all those wanting proof that UMA and Light Power Solutions is the same, the attached should do the trick. If not there is plenty more where this came from. Now you know, Light power solutions WAS UMA (Utility Management Association). It still is the same people and the same products. Gary Light is still the true owner, regardless of what the corp. papers say. Yes, they have a location in Flordia, but the main office is in Belden, Mississippi.
And for those questioning if the "power mizer" should be installed by a liscensed electrician, the answer is legally yes. Unless the home owner installs it himself. The company selling it cannot install it unless they have an electrician"s liscense. It is not a matter of how much it cost, but rather, it is a matter of the city code and of safety of the home owner.
The problems do not stop there. LPS - UMA sells another product called the Power Mizer H2o, which requires a re-plumbing of your water heater. Again, city codes require a liscense plumber. Yet UMA - LPS has their people do the conversion and re-plumbing. All this against code.
Also any potential customer should ask, "are the installers part of the company?" If told the truth, the answer is NO. Installers are independent contractors and ARE NOT part of UMA - LPS. So the question then should be asked, "where did they come from and how much training do they have ?" You will find it is NONE when it come to anything electrical or anything to do with plumbing.
Everything else aside, Light Power Solutions and Utility Management Association are the same company, just a different name. Why? That is what you have to decide.

This is Joe Hamacher. I have NEVER bankrupted any company that I have been a part of and I will file a law suit for Slander against anyone that says otherwise. You would be wise to immediately stop with the fictitious blogs. Just because you are dissatisfied because you were either let go from our company or you couldn't make it as a consultant doesn't mean you have to go to the internet and post false statements about our company or our people. Now I have put my name on here and you know how to get ahold of me. Now lets see if the other folks on here can do the same. Step 1 is to BE A MAN !

I am an outside observer with no relation with UMA, Light Power Solutions, or anyone complaining here. I just want to point out a few things concerning your complaint.

First, you say you were called to the house by a dear friend to check out the energy box. Are you saying there was wrong with the box, or did s/he just want you to look at it? You say it was not installed by a licensed electrician. Can you prove this?

Next, I don’t believe you are a licensed electrician, since you cannot spell licensed or electrician.

Apparently, they know what they are doing, because they are still in business.

After reading your “complaint”, I can understand why you are having difficulty finding work…

Again, if you cannot spell licensing, you should not be licensed to do anything...

While you may be right, would you so kind to show me where I may find these laws to which you are referring?

You also state "we will see if your company is doing it right." I have nothing to do with this company what so ever. I just get annoyed when people post ignorant comments on the internet, and I also like to debate with people.

Also, why didn't you post those pictures here if actually have proof of anything? That would have been the first thing I did if I were you. Next thing I would do if I were you would be to go back to school and learn to spell.

And to those people who posted attachments, I believe it is illegal to post people's personal telephone numbers in public places without permission of the owner. I’m ust throwing that out there.

As for the authenticity of those emails, one is sent from a yahoo account which makes me believe it is doctored anyway. Next, those bear no meaning since they could have been made in Adobe Photoshop or Microsoft paint for that matter.

I'm not real thrilled about my name being on here either, but I'm not going to sue anyone for LIBEL, which is the printed word, as opposed to SLANDER, the spoken word. And Joe, I've always kind of liked and respected you despite what I know you and others TRULY feel about me; and I truthfully don't see much on here that isn't true. So ALL of you, be careful what you type. I am a former rep, (they fired me for leading a charge against an incompetent guy they fired for incompetence several months later LOL- but I really don't bear them any ill will for it, in fact, I don't care at all) and they are the same company. Who really cares? The products work. Gary Light is a decent guy. Not sure he's doing the right thing now, but hey, it's his company. He wants to risk it all, go with God. I do agree that it's a good idea to have people who are licensed but it's not absolutely necessary; Tom True is incorrect there. A homeowner has the legal right to install anything they want in their individual homes in virtually every state in the Union. Think about what you're saying Tom; the homeowner can PERSONALLY do it but can't have his friend/son/etc do it? You HAVE to have a license? If that were true, there would be NO exception for even the homeowner. When you went to buy a water heater from Home Depot for example, they wouldn't let anyone but a licensed specialist deliver it and install it. The only time you HAVE to a license is when you're interfacing with someone else's equipment; i.e. the power companies equipment or the water authorities equipment... and sometimes not even then. See www.contractors-license.org. Again, it depends on the state you're in. People in that industry like to CLAIM you have to have a license, but they know it's not true. I don't blame them; it's a good idea to hire them. I hired electricians and paid them out of my pocket when I was with UMA/LPS. I would encourage people to do what they think is right. And if you feel like any of what I've said is BS? I'll go you one step futher:

My name is Dave Cowden and my personal cell phone number is [protected]. Call me. You'll get the truth. Anyone who knows me, including the people at UMA/LPS knows I tell the truth, even when it's not to my benefit. You know why? Because there is nothing anyone can do to stop me from doing so. People who lie do so because they are afraid of the consequences of telling the truth. That's not me. Generally, when people threaten to sue, they don't even have a lawyer (not directed at you Joe). I PROMISE you I do:

Well, thank you all for an interesting read. But regardless of who the company owners are of whatever company it is now, are the products worth the investment? And, if they are so superior and beneficial to American's, why aren't these being mass produced and sold to Home Depot and Lowe's? Apparently if these products save energy and home owners money like they are pitched at the seminars, everyone should at least have easy access NOW to the foil products. If this is such an honest company wanting to do good for American's, why this avenue of sales? Is there a patent on these products? Lots of questions and not sure I can trust the answers.

New Reader,
The products are worth the money. The Dept of Energy endorses radiant barrier insulation. If it were me personally, I would buy the durable one, not any other type. The other products work as well. Just make sure you pay a fair price and get decent installation.

The products work ok. You can go online and find the foil for 10 cents a square foot, Also you can find those electrical boxes for 300 dollars online. Don't be fooled they all work the same, there is no difference in the quality. Salesmen make a lot of every deal.

after going to my grandmothers home to see what gary light or utility management association or light power solutions or UMA or whatever this company is going by now had installed into my grandmothers home I was sickened to see how they had installed there scam on the wall above her breaker box... I have attached an image to show the others what they had done... this unit was called a "Power Mizer" I think they are calling it a green power box or something else now or maybe watt mizer... I have found that everytime they get a law suit filed against them for making a label and putting it over the real manufactures lable on thier products they just change the name and go on with it... I will make it my personal mission in life to make sure that everyone knows how this company operates... including but not limited to how they market to sienors and widows... so before you buy any products from this company with names like "the utility shield" "Ultra Power Shield" "Green Power Box" "LPS H20 Heater" "Light Power Switch" "Hydro Chill" do your research on this company... be sure to search google for "Gary Light" "UMA" "Utility Management Association" all of these are as everyone above has stated the same company... bad thing is they are not even smart enough to operate out of a different home base (Belden, MS) or (Tupelo, MS)

Clozer,
Above, I posted that I was FIRED by this company for reasons you can read about. I'm not saying they're a great company; in my view they were, but aren't now. But I am telling you FOR A FACT these products work. It's simple science. 2 and 2 ALWAYS EQUAL 4! That's whats great about science; things either are or they are not. That picture is not really great, so I'm not sure what you are upset about. May you could elucidate?

Uma and LPS are owned by Gary Light who lives near Tupelo MS. For several decades, Mr Light has been a salesman who prides himself in the art of making money. His company's goal is to create the highest paid saleforce in the world. That was stated on board a cruise ship in Jan. 2010 At the same meeting, Mr Light introduced Mr Greg Rogers and Mr Ray Casario who were to become President and National Sales Manager of the new company, Light Power Solutions. with "new" headquarters to be located in Jacksonville, Florida.

The reason Mr Light can pay such enormous commissions is that his company consistently sells their products at no less than 3-4 times the price normally charged by the manufacturers who have agreed to private label for Mr Lights companies. He insists that every product they sell is exclusive to his company of the hour. There is enormous pressure on the sales staff to sell equipment that really has almost no benefit to the consumer. The reflective radiant barrier has been the core product for all of the different companies Mr Light has created, and it does work very effectively. However, the price for which it sells is at least 10 times the cost for which anyone with internet access can buy it for.

The company offers a 5 year money back guarantee. Mr Light stated to a group of his sales people "The customers will almost never call you after the five years, so you will never have to worry about the guarantee."

The basice product works just fine, but others such as the Power Mizer(or whatever they call it now) has almost no benefit to homeowners. While it sells for at least $1, 000, one can buy an identical product from a company called Power Save for $299 (PowerSave will happily let you become a distributor) The same goes for the Power Mizer H2O. Google: heat pump water heater to see how much you can buy it for online.

ustabeuma,
Not really sure where you're going with this. Are you saying Gary and company shouldn't make a profit on the things they sell and the service they provide? Isn't that totally not what capitalism is about? Do you feel like companies shouldn't profit? Are you possibly confused about how things in this country work. Do you not want others to make a good living (possibly better than you?). It seems like I'm trying to be mean; I promise I'm not. We just need to be careful about how and what we blog. We all have a right to make a profit, possibly a great one, as well as a good living. I'm not sure saying these things accomplishes anything positive.

LPS Light Power Solutions, 2 FREE DINNERS, postcard states "Reduce Your Monthly Utility Bills Guaranteed" "Reduce Your Utility Bills Up To 45%" "Your Actual Savings May Vary", so they are not currently guaranteeing any particular amount of savongs. Free dinner offer pastcard only states "The Dinner Is Being Sponsored By LPS" so you have no idea who LPS is or what they do but obviously nobody is going to just give away free dinners. It is interesting it also states "We Will Provide A Free Dinner For Two There Is Nothing To Buy At The Dinner". Why would anyone go to something like this when you have to be enticed with a free dinner for two to go to something you don't even know about? I guess they figure the idiots that would go to this would be the perfect targets for the big sale.

Having attended one of LPS dinner seminars just last night (11/29/2010), I take offense at being called "an idiot." We had a GREAT prime rib meal and did learn something. I will admit, the "audience" was elderly and that in itself brought on suspicions. No pressure was placed on those in attendance but appointments were secured before attendees left. A business card was the only literature provided to attendees and when we researched the website address online (www.lightpowersolutions.com), it led nowhere. We cancelled our appointment by leaving a voicemail for Michael Tempco, the sales rep, who then called us to try and talk his way into our home. I would recommend that everyone research LPS before investing $ into a purchase that they might regret. Unfortunately, most of the attendees probably don't have the means or knowledge to do online research--which explains why the appointment is the next day, targetting elderly home owners.

1, PA does not require individual electricians to be licensed. read the ICC or NFPA 70 (nat'l electrical code) if you can, you need to be tought how to read it properly just as lawyers must learn to read law books. If a home owner modifies a(n) electrical system they must still pull a permit and the work must be inspected. notice I said MODIFY, not replace. this is in nfpa-70 wich by the way is not free, but the icc code is the same and more commonly adopted by states.the ICC code is available to view @ www.iccsafe.org. In industry we have been using power reactors to lower the PF of inductive loads for years, DoE has documents that explian how reactive current works. however most energystar appliences already have reactors on the motors and modern transformers and switching power supplies are very efficient and have low quiescent current. In response to the debate guy, we call you trolls onthe internet. I can't spell hysteresis or quiescent right half the time but I can explain what they mean on a exam in great deatail on a exam, this is why the state was inclined to issue me a degree. I am a "qualified" electrician :someone who is trained in the hazards and operation of equipment. -Article 100 definitions nfpa70. also NFPA 70, article 110.3(b) equipment shall be installed per the manufacturers recommendations. this is why receptacles are not installed over electric baseboard heat, they don't ever seem to recommend that, and the models with built in receptacles satisfy the requirement to install receptacles every 5' (10' apart). don't want to do it fine, ask your insurance company if they cover fire damage caused by un-inspected work. bet they don't, i don't want a guy who gets paid 50$ an install in my panel at all, the problem there is your exposing your customer to liability, that the installers are unaware of because they don't have the training the state mandates.Furthermore if the manufacturer isn't a NEMA member than I would steer clear. we're not ripping people off most of us are collage grads with loans to repay, for an education the states mandates. I can understand why joe is upset by this, we charge more because we a legitimate tradesmen. I get mad when i see speaker wire used for fixtures, soft copper gas pipes longer than 10' not supported at all. supply houses don't sell these cause they are not worth installing in my opinion, buy energy star, get a tankless heater...ect. libel only applies to criminal acts...not ethics or buiness practices (unless they are unlawfull) stated as fact and not opinion. This post reflects my professional opinion and is not intended to replace proper formal training, or the advice of the authority having jurisdiction (code enforcement/fire chief)

@citizen sorry...for the misspellings wich should read which and I failed to edit a rewrite on the exam passage...guess that invalidates the same concern. You are a troll that account only posted twice to this complaint. join a debate team, or enter a spelling bee. @dave cowden it appears that the installer notched out the drywall aroundthe edge of a flush mounted panel and passed unprotected conductors through the wall into what appears to flexible conduit. It would be consistent with the work a 50$ contractor with a pick-up and screwdriver would do. however the size makes me think it was copied from a website, maybe home inspector nightmares? BTW if anyone that worked for me, as a professional, IN SALES, REPRESENTING MY COMPANY, defended it by publicly stating "shut your mouthes" (notice the correct spelling of mouthes, affirming my validity) I would have them retract and resign, no one shuts up on command, it usually invokes the opposite .

I went to the dinner and had a rep come to my house He was very nice and polite and a good salesperson Yes I did sign a contract but am having second thoughts after reading all this I was told the company was out of Ms. & Fl I was a electrician and electrical engineer before I retired I am not sure about how the green power box can work being installed the way I was told it would be on a single breaker it can not manage a full panel only one phase. I also agree with the electrician you need a professional to do work in any electrical panel I believe you (the home owner) would be responsible if any thing should happen to the installer because you gave him permission to do the work. It might be worth checking out

this is from another complaint on here from someone looking for a green power box... i thought I would add it to this thread also to make sure everyone is informed

http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Electric-Saver-Power-1200-Save-Money-KVAR-Savings-/390268567937?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5addd1c181
that is a good start... it is not the "green power box" but it is 100% the same scam... this is the box they was selling before they got into several lawsuits because lps tried to cut corners and lable the kvar units as "Power Mizer" without paying a branding fee to kvar... and its only 97 bucks! bet you paid atleast what 1299 for it?

be very carefull about buying from light power solutions as you can do your own research on here and other websites to find out the real deal on them... i am sure you heard the whole spill about "oh were rated #1 with EGIA and oh there such a fine organization" do they tell you that they paid a $250.00 yearly membership fee to get that rating? they will also tell you how bad the BBB is because they allow you to pay a membership fee and get a good rating... this is kinda odd considering that is exactly what they are doing with EGIA... there BBB rating is SO bad that they cant even pay a membership fee to buy a good rating with them... or did they use the other tactics of saying "oh no dont read all that information on complaints board or the BBB website... you can type in the big name companies like Lowes.. Home Depot... and they have compaints also!" but what they dont do is actually compare the complaints... they dont tell you that lowes and home depot's problems are based on customer service and such things as that... I mean who are they kidding... look at the complaints against light power solutions, uma, and gary light... you will see that they are complaints about the products they are selling and how they are so over priced... i mean hell... look at the "Green Power Box" the damn thing is all over the internet for 100 bucks... and what they dont tell you is that if it is not sized right then it will actually increase your utility bill so be very carefull about this product from them and do your research
