MagicJack avoid magic jack like a plague

You can see that after an hour on the computer and two "tech" reps that they could not fix my problem. My fix, I took it back to the store for a refund.

MagicJack charged without preauthorization

Hard to explain..I am at a disadvantage and disabled..they charged me for nothing..never wanted the phone and can't get a refund so far. Now my rent is due.:( I only wanted this to call my sick mother. Magic Jack I am seeing is a scam..I so need that money back:( I really don't know how to deal with this..I have to have that money as I am on a strict budget with not a dime left over in the month because of high rent and bills. No I don't live in public housing either so rent is sky high.

Wish I had seen this first, but got recommendation from friend. TV ads all indicate Magic Jack is 19.95 a year. Due to misleading website, I wound up being billed $73.20 for 1 year service, a usb fob, and a download. When I tried to find out th problem they explained their version of the billing to me with which I totally disagreed. I had a "chat" list of at least 20 "I'll be right back". Their game is to make you so exhausted with the process you give up. I don't plan to give up however. No direct phone, no real recourse besides small claims court. Keep bad-mouthing them - because it's the truth.

MagicJack magic jack waste money in rural areas

Like a lot of people, I have been sucked in by magic jack thinking that it would save some money on phone bills. However, I live in rural (bush) alaska where the internet is nowhere as good as in urban areas such as anchorage, or down in the "lower 48". Based on this and magic jacks dependence on broadband speeds, I have not been able to have a single phone call through magic jack without severe break-up on my and the recipent's end. I am very disappointed in this, however, I may have to wait and see if this changes when I travel. At this point though, I rate magic jack with a 2 out of 10. I can only hope that there is some improvement during my travels.

It sounds like you do not have the basic requirements for MJ service. If you have limited bandwidth or are connecting to the internet through a "dish system" then that is your problem. It is not the MJ device and you should not blast it instead of the real problem which is your Ineternet Service Provider connections. If your internet is sketchy then anything that uses the internet will be too. Place blame where it belongs and not on a wonderfull device like the MJ.

MagicJack do not buy this piece of crap

I bought a majic jack in mar of 2009 one day it was working fine the next it stopped I contacted there tech support when though 3 hours trying to make it work it is broken and the want to change 10.00 shipping and handling for a new one don"t buy this piece of crap this is not the first time I have bought off the internet and been screwed don't buy anything on line!

MagicJack magic jack has to be the single worst investment I have ever made

Magic Jack has to be the single worst investment I have ever made. It does not perform as advertised; there is no clarity in either reception or transmission. I have spent hours and hours on the computer with tech support and everyone tells me it is fixed and yet when I use the product, the voice quality on either end is as if you are talking under water. I know in life you get what you pay for and magic jack was a quick fix for me since I didn't want to put a land line into a residence I would use for only 3 months. How stupid and gullible could I have been to have believed the advertising? I guess pretty stupid and very gullible. Don't make the same mistake I have, save your money and your time (which is as valuable as cash) and DO NOT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE I HAVE; DO NOT PURCHASE MAGIC JACK UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. Tech help is polite, knowledgeable and kind, but ultimately powerless to make it better. I have tried every fix under the sun and NOTHING works. Calls don't come in, people can't hear me or if they can hear me, they are unable to understand me. I do not understand them. It is as if I am talking through a voice changing device, where the voice is so well disguised that the speech is unintelligible to anyone on the other end. Try making calls to businesses like that... get a land line or increase the minutes on your cell.

Sounds to me as if you didn't have a fast enough internet connection, or too slow of a USB connection. I bought Magicjack, plugged it in and about 10 minutes later I had a dial tone. I call people and they say they can't tell the difference in voice quality between Magic jack and my digital land line. It has upgraded itself a few times since I bought it and it works great. It IS my phone now. I've never had a single dropped call, never had a single issue with it whatsoever and I've had it almost a year now.

To all these people with issues with Magic jack, I think your problem is somewhere else. God knows I've had TONS of problems with my computer and computer accessories, but Magicjack isn't one of them.

To ALL of those complaining about it...I really don't think it's the Magicjack, I think it's something you did. There are so many things that can wrong that prevent the item from working...it would be like blaming a car for not starting when someone didn't install the fuel line correctly. Don't blame the car...

MagicJack do not invest in magicjack under any circumstances

Well, here we go again is all I can say! Remember the old addage "if it sounds to good to be true". I mean when are we going to wake up? Please who-ever reads this comment take the old addage for what it's worth and keep your money in your pocket. Do not I repeat do not "invest" in magicjack!

Magic Jack has been a real blessing in the last year I have used it. The price is has been very low so far and it works well. I used to use Vonage and it was a pain. It seldom connected nicely and the bandwidth static was to constant and often blocked conversations. I would never consider using Vonage for a business and lost faith in internet phones but now that I use Magic Jack I feel it is really good and I can comfortably call my bank, talk to a business or interview with it and I know the connection will hold up and be clear. I strongly recommend Magic Jack and feel my results of using it along with its low price has been great.

I use Magic Jack and it works great and the fee is only a bout $40 per year. I used to use Vonage, and that really was a pain. It often did not connect and when it did it often had too much static to hear anyone on it and I lost hope in internet phone jacks, but the Magic Jack has been a real blessing. Once in a rare while I might have to call some back because of bandwidth static, but most of the time it is very clear and very cheap to use. As long as the prices stays down it a great deal.

I agree with the original complaint and would not recommend anyone to buy this device. They provide false information when advertising. First of all, they say its free for the first year but then it stops working after 90 days and you`re forced to pay the renewal fee in order to continue service. One day after the subscription fee is paid, the device stops working again. Customer service was contacted via online live help because there`s obviously no actual number to call and to my surprise, I was told "there was excessive usage therefore the jack is no longer able to be used". Now how on earth is that fair? What is the purpose of having a land line? Last time I checked, it was for one reason to make as much calls as you would like to as long as the bill is being paid. This company needs to be served with a LAWSUIT for scamming people out of their hard earned money.

MagicJack do not buy one of these things

My mom & dad purchased a MagicJack in January of 2009 and tried to use it on their Windows XP machine. Unfortunately, it did not work reliably. Many calls had choppy sound and some would not go through at all. If you rebooted the PC it might work good for an hour or two, but inevitably, it would start having problems withing a few hours.

After months of frustration, I took their MagicJack home & tried on my Windows XP machine. The result was the SAME, inconsistent sound quality. Have to constantly restart to get it to work, and even then it only works well for a little while and inconsistently.

DO NOT BUY ONE OF THESE THINGS.

My XP install is just a straight install with SP3 and anti-virus software. Now crapware or extra stuff. I also have a 10MB high speed cable connection for the Internet, so if it can't work well under these conditions, it never will.

Maybe your computer not up to date, cause i brought my Magic Jack since two years ago, it still working good and fine. no problems. i love it. maybe your internet is tripping or something. i live in Miami Fl. some of my friend have it for years, it still work normal no cut convo. well call customer service ask the question, they will glad to help you with any problems.

MagicJack magic jack customer service refused to honor their 30-day money back guarantee

Magic Jack customer service refused to honor their 30-day money back guarantee. The product did not work as promised, and they also refused to return $40 in pre-paid international charges.

I was doing mission work for my church, and needed to call Haiti. I am very disappointed in their deceptive marketing practices, and have to resort to getting my credit card company to "charge back" the funds.

MagicJack product not received and charged $103.91 on my visa - april 29

I ordered a free 30 day trial of magicjack on the internet March 30/2010 On March 31, $4.13 (the price from the internet).was taken from my Visa account No magic jack was ever received After 3 weeks, I called and asked that my account be cancelled.
On April 29 an additional $103.91 was taken from my Visa account..
I want it put back in because i had no product to try. I have read their customer complaints, most of which portray Magic Jack as a scam Some American customerswere satisfied with it

Mantengo Mi MagicJack acå, para comunicarme con Parientes y Amigos en USA.
No he tenido ningun problema. Es increible, Su eficiencia. Los que se quejan,

MagicJack on my calls there is a constant beeping that frustrates my callers to no end

On my calls there is a constant beeping that frustrates my callers to no end. And, voices drop off so sometimes you only catch a few words in a sentence being said. i have chatted with their online "customer no-service" and they all tell me to do the same thing--disable my security--as well as other things that don't make sense and don't work. they also say they have done something to the magic jack phone number i have and it should now work. i am sick of them having me do ridiculous things that don't work. i am returning my MJ. I got it from office depot, so luckily there is a 30-day return policy.

MagicJack classic bait and switch tactics

I just tried magic jack. They bait you in by saying they won't charge anything if you're not satisfied. It echoed so bad, I couldn't even use it to check my phone messages. I had to pay to return it, and they kept $10 even though I hadn't made 6 minutes in calls, and returned it the day I received it.

MagicJack want to cancel my subscription

My Magic Jack (MJ) incoming calls were dropping after 30 seconds. Their tech support (Branden and Haley) made so many changes to my PC (none of which solved the problem) that it is a wonder I can still connect to the Internet. I was blown off with a "I will reset you on our side") and dropped, with a wish for a happy life!?! When I try to get get back on for live chat help, I find that they have arranged that the entry path is not there. I have been blocked from complaining about their totally incompetent tech support. When I go back on the site, I have to look at the insipid father/daughter ego trip.in the mean time, I am stuck for 5 years with 30 second incoming calls. And PC magazine rated them highly? Need to cancel my subscription. VERY dissatisfied.

Everyone this is a piece of junk! Save your money! Lies! Lies! Lies! They want know the truth if it bit them! Customer service who! What! Where! Save your money! If it looks good! Sound good! Buyer beware! I want my money back but of course i'll have to travel to the moon and back and still want get my money. The biggest rip off in america! Magic jack do unto others as you would want other do unto you! Refund all the money! You know you are wrong for this! To the right thing! You will have to face your maker! MagicJack will not refund money

I just tried to get a refund from MAGIC JACK, well I was informed that the trial period has expired and I get NOTHING! My $86.85 GONE. My husband bought it for me as a gift and the 30 days had gone by before it was gift giving time. I have sattelite for my internet and folks there is nothing on the MAGIC JACK ad that says anything about sattelite.It will not work with sattelite because there is a milisecond or so lapse. I explained to the lady I have not even taken it out of the pkg and they DON"T CARE. What a ripp off! Do Not buy these things! Not a good company to do business with!

I have a relative who's MJ did NOT function properly cos she was located in a Rural area, hence my earlier advise to one of the complaints..
My knowledge is the 30 day period starts from the day you order NOT the day they ship or the day you receive and start the trial.
A sure way of gettinga response I know was my cousin lodged a complaint with her local TV Consumer Watch people and she got her REFUND in full..Maybe you can try this out for your area..I don't know..Best of luck though

Shouda Wouda Couda.. OMG! people, sure wish I would have used Google search, and typed in Magic Jack, before phoneing the T.V.,
[protected] order number. With this company MagicJack, the old adage "buy'er Beware" surely stands. People! please do a little homework, before you call a company like this, and then be stupid enough to hand over, your personal information ; eg: banking, or credit card #, Email etc, etc.. You will be one sorry Sad Sap. Customer Service forget it, there is NONE. Once you pass over your info:, by phone or by Email, Magic Jack has got you, everything or future transaction is Virtual cyber space, round and round we go. NO company customer service rep to speak with, extremely hard to navigate their website. You will find it is all Smoke and Mirrors. Ask yourself, do you want to do business with a company like this? Please stop and think, before doing business with them. Magic Jack should be investigated for public fraud. They must have had at least 10 Florida lawyers draw up their contracts and virtual "BS" web page. Totally consumer unfriendly. Q. Where is a proper and ligitimate ph# to your said company, found anywhere on your web pages? Why can we Not talk with a live person, representing your company? What are you trying to hide MagicJack?..
To make a really long story short, MagicJack has made it really hard for any of us potential customers, or customer, to RETURN their product., within their 30 day trail period. I Do Not have enough time to tell you all, the trouble and time i spent waisted on trying to contact this company by PH or Email, to try and CANCEL my order, before they shipped it. To No avail.. and then there is the episode on getting a return RMA # to accompany the return item the"MagicJack". Oh Yes! people, you will also need to get a Tracking # to accompany this returned item. Yesterday, it cost me $15.00(cdn) at Canada Post, for that service. That Fee will be a Loss to you and me, and non recoverable. I have phoned my Bank and Visa, they are "aware" of this company and situation, and willing to step up to bat if needed, to hopefully recover my initial order (monies). This is now, a wait and see scenario (unfortunately).
I will also be contacting the "BBB" and forwarding a complaint against MagicJack.
Bottom Line: MagicJack makes it very and extremely hard for anyone to contact them personally. (Smoke & Mirrors).

Magic Jack advertises that you can buy their product from a retail store, online, or by phone. What thgey fail to tell you is that if you buy it from a retailer they don't back the product.
The customer service is absolutely horrible and their policies are unheard of.
Stay away from this product.

I have had my Magic Jack for less than 90 days, but over the 30-day free trial. During the trial it worked well enough most of the time, but since then the audio quality has continued to degrade. I have tried all the prescribed resolutions available on line, but nothing has worked. Today I engaged in a chat with Magic Jack to request the return of at least the five years additional service I (foolishly) signed up for. The chat transcript is below, but the bottom line is that I was told I was SOL, and to reread the terms of service. Has anyone gotten any satisfaction at all when requesting a refund outside the 30-day trial?

Customer: My internet connection is an aircard, but it is a good connection. Why would I give something that doesn't work properly to any loved ones? That would not be very loving. I really must insist that you refund money received for services that will not be provided. To not do this will generate much negative publicity that can easily be avoided. You know it is not right to keep the money paid for the five years extra service.
Evert: We already gave you 30-day free trial, and with that certain of time, you must decide if you want to keep th product or not, but then you were using it for morethan 2 months. Your internet connection is intermittent, resulting to bad audio on your calls. even if your internet connection is very strong, because of the type of internet connection that you have, that will still result in the bad audio on your calls
Customer: The 30-day trial did not present the persistent problem now being encountered. I continued to try to make it work, but it is hopeless. If you are not authorized to comply with my request, please transfer me to someone who is.

Customer: I am not going to give up on this. It is not right for you to keep money for services not provided. Please comply with my request.
Customer: Why would you want to damage the reputation of your company over such a small amount of money?

They have the worst service and thwey know it.. That is why you can not get a number to call anyone.

They will never admit they don't know. If you pay for the 5 year plan and do not have service after 30 days you will not receive a refund..

Putting a live phone support will add cost to MJ and then they can not offer their service at that price. Having said that, they should answer emails more quickly or chats. Like Skype, MJ doesn't have a live phone support due to cost.

I highly disagree. We've had Magic Jack for 2 years now and the only problem we had was when our computer power cord went bad and that had nothing to do with Magic Jack.

MagicJack warning: not recognized by my usb

I bought my (two) MagicJack phone lines over two years ago. I used my MagicJack to replace my house phone and office phone. After two years of reasonable service, I purchased a third MagicJack as a gift for my mother, who lives in Austin, TX. I have to admit, I am not 100% satisfied. I have experienced several 'dropped' calls, as well as calls that echoed, and the phone simply cutting off on it's on at times.
Just today [protected]) I spent several hours on the internet with three different online helpers-and even after giving the third helper control of my computer, they could not fix my issue which is that everytime I turn on my computer, my magicJack is not being recognized, so I have to run the magicJack Fix program everytime. Once I do, it works fine. My complaints would be more substantial if I had a larger investment, but for the less than $300 I've spent on my three magicJacks, I have three phones for five years of service...the service, though not perfected, is well worth it. I have truely saved a lot of money on local phone service and was happy to say good bye to them. I think with any 'new' product, there will come issues, so I am patiently working through them with magicJack and look forward to more improvements. If I were to rate the magicJack for it working, I give it an 85% (B). As for customer service, I believe they tried every time I chatted online with them 91%(A-) and over all, a (B+).
It's not perfect, but compared to how much I was paying, I'm staying with my magicJack(s) and recommending it to others who are willing to sacrifice perfection for decent service and bye-bye monthly bill.

Easy fix. Click on run located in start button. Type in "application data" and hit enter. Scroll to file "mjusbsp" and open it. Now find file "ug00000" and open it. Start the setup file inside file "ug00000". This should work without having to lose your contact data and whatnot. Other than that I have to do it almost everytime my pc starts up.

I was in MJ tech support chat box for about the 100th time in 2 years. I went there again today here is the exact text- Sonny: Hello, how may I help you?

I have had my MJ almost 2 years...in those 2 years I've spent hours in this chat box trying to get it to work correctly...it never does, sometimes it works, most times not. Now it has started something totally different...people call and I can't understand them...their voice is all broken up, I try repeatedly to call them back but it keeps doing the same thing...I've dont the fix...I've done the upgrades MANY MANY times...I've tried and tried many times to get you to send me a NEW one. I think mines defective and always has been...my sister JUST got one, shes my neighbor and has the same internet provider ..hers works perfectly. I don't understand WHY you won't send me a new one you've made millions on the sale of MJs yet from the first week I had mine it didn't work, why won't you send me a new one? MagicJack service

Purchased magic jack last week, and like anything else if it sounds to good to be true it probably is.sound quality is piss poor, breaks up really really bad. called tech support, and they were great, did all they told us to do, including downloaded their upgrade, nothing helped. So were stuck, can't afford cell phone, and why pay for a home phone that's rarely used. The problem isn't magic jack, it's the phone company's outrageous rates leaving magic jack to prey on people like us.

My phone line is hacked. I keep getting calls from people stating that I called them saying that I was the IRS. Then magic jack said I needed to pay to have my number changed. Unbelievable. Software from magic jack is not secure.

MagicJack free trial

I signed up for the "free" trial today. The order is not processed, however, they have already taken the money from my account. They state the money will be billed for 31 days. The first 30 days are a free trial and then on the 31st day you are billed. I paid by debit card and at no time on the order entry page was I informed that if I pay by debit card I would be billed immediately. The live chat is a joke. I was given no assistance because there is no record of an order. Meanwhile, I have been billed and charged in full for what should be a "free" trial.

The same thing happened to me. I am currently working with my bank to dispute the charge and hopefully they can help me reconcile this issue since there is no customer service for Magic Jack to turn to.
