I purchased a Samsung Galaxy S2 mobile phone from MOBILE APPS PTE LTD at #02-72, Sim Lim Square, Singapore 188504 on the 06th of January 2012. The salesman quoted S$720 for the phone. I agreed on the price and wanted to buy it. Then the salesman wanted the money to finalize the deal – which I paid in cash. After receiving the money, he took out a form and wanted me to write my name, passport number, and email address saying that it is necessary to “register” the phone with Samsung. Without any hesitation or suspicion, I put my details down on that piece of paper. Then he went out of the shop saying that he needs to go to his technician to “register” the phone!

Within five minutes he returned and wanted me to pay an additional amount of S$308 for “registering the phone”! He said that he had to unlock the phone and register it so that I could download android applications “free of charge”. Furthermore, he went on to say that otherwise I would have to pay money every time I downloaded android application software. I said that I don’t need them. But he insisted that he has already done it for me – and wanted me to pay the additional sum of money. When I told him that I was not informed of any payment involved for “registering” the phone; he insisted that because I did not ask whether it is going to cost any money, he kept quiet!

To make a long story short, at the end of this ugly scenario I had to pay an additional S$100 to save my S$720 already paid. There is no payment required to download free software from the Android market. There was no requirement to unlock the Samsung Galaxy S2 I bought as it was not a “locked” phone. I had to pay S$820 (bill No. 2636) for a S$720 transaction. I feel cheated in style and I seek justice.

I have also been scammed by this dealer. I went in to purchase a Samsung Galaxy S3 for my teenage daughter and was 'upsold' to a Galaxy Nexus. The salesman said that the S3 was old technology and the Nexus was the latest. Research now shows the opposite to be true and the Nexus is actually a cheaper phone. I will lodge this is a separate complaint. I would recommend that you avoid this store at all costs.

If the payment was done by credit/debit card you have the option of charging back (like stop payment) the merchant.
Contact your bank immediately to get a chargeback due to fraud. Usually the time frame to make a complaint is within 60 days of purchase.
I think you will definitely get your money back as these guys are very infamous for this kind of activity and their acquiring bank would be aware of that. In the meantime you can make a complatint to email: feedback @ stb.gov.sg if you are a tourist.
Best of luck!

Same thing happened to me. The shop quoted me $610 for iPhone 4s and discounted me for $600. The salesman asked me to make the payment and he didn't inform anything about unlocking charges. I was asked to sign a document where the terms and conditions laid down are invisible to read. I told the salesman that the letters are so small and he told me it is not a problem and he will explain me. He told me to wait for ten to fifteen minutes and he went to unlock the phone. Later on he came with an additional charge of $558. I was so shocked and i wanted to cancel the purchase. But i was asked to pay cancellation charge of $223 [40% of $558 (unlocking charge)] or an option to buy Samsung Tab 3G. I purchased this Samsung phone under compulsion. MOBILE APPS PTE LTD REALLY CHEATS. Never buy anything from this shop and i already recommended so many people not to buy from this shop.

SAME THING HAPPENED. My family and I was going to buy an iPad 3 when we heard that it was only worth $350. We paid by using a credit card. The salesman had so many receipts that he said we needed to sign. There was 3 receipts, the first one was worth $441. The second one was $800 (For the apps), and the third one was $1060 (We didn't even know what was it for!). I signed the first one but when I saw the other 2 the salesman said that we can't ask for a refund because the card was already swiped. That's where we called the police to help us. The one who sold us the unit left when the police arrived, the head manager was willing to give us a refund for $100. ( We knew that this was part of the scam but we did not even taught of complaining because this was not our country and we don't know the policies). After we paid them they cancelled it. We regretted to even come to that mall. I hope that you guys would NOT buy from this mall.

I bought an ipad mini from "Sonny" on Wednesday, July 3, 2013 for S350. I had asked him if I bought from him, in Singapore, would I be able to have it fixed anywhere in the world under the 1 year Apple Care warranty and he said yes. (I live in Indonesia.) After I bought the ipad mini I inquired about the small keyboard and he quoted me S89.99. He also suggested I buy a screen for S30. He said if I bought both he would give me "first customer of the morning" deal and give me both for S80. I agreed and then he said "do you want the international warranty for 1 or 2 years?" I said "It's included, yes?" And he said no, S199. I reminded him that I asked him if it was all included and he said yes. He denied it. He told me I would not be able to get my mini fixed outside of Singapore under the warranty. Then he went on to tell me that he would give me all 3 (keyboard, screen and int'l warranty) for S200, and punched a bunch of numbers into the calculator to tell me I would receive S75 back from the GST refund, so essentially I would be paying S125 for all 3. I told him he was figuring numbers too fast and I thought I would be able to register my mini myself. He said yes but I'd be charged US dollars if I did so. Eventually I agreed to it. He charged my credit card another S200 and had me sign a receipt where he scrawled items on it. I couldn't read the receipt but just wanted to leave as I was feeling agitated and that I might be getting ripped off. He took my passport and went into another room to "register" the mini. He returned and I left. When I got back home I called Apple and asked if I had been registered for an international warranty that would allow me to have my ipad mini fixed anywhere in the world for 1 year. I was told there was no such thing. When the woman looked up my machine it was registered under a different individual's name as well. I called "Sonny" and asked for proof that he had registered me for an international warranty. He said he couldn't send me any proof but that it did exist. I told him what Apple said and he just said "you signed the receipt lady". I have contacted my credit card company and will attempt to stop payment.
