I had the mirena iud for 5 years had it removed july 16, 2021.. I have had emotional physical and mental problems since also vaginal infections.. The doctor told me I had a bacterial infection when the iud was removed. She never prescribed me any antibiotics for this.. I have pictures and it looks like it was attached to my uterus

Desired outcome: Sue for pain and suffering and for no other woman to have to go through this would like it to be taking off the shelf

Mirena IUD complaint

I've just come across these mirena complaints because just lately I've been noticing the bad odour, all of the sudden mind you, I've had it for nearly 2 years now, so I googled the same question as others obviously, and now I'm peaking right out! I urgently needed to get this mirena, because at the time I suffered from endometriosis pretty badly. It's very painful, uncomfortable, and back then I had cysts on my ovaries a few times over the years. It was when I was getting a cyst removed that I was suggested to by the doc to try the mirena. I thought couldn't be any worse, I'll have a try. I've always believed it's quite unnatural not to bleed and to this day I still don't get how it's any good. Well, no more bleeding to death half a month at a time, so that was good, my partner cheered up a lot, he always used to say, something wasn't right, go and see the doctor. I told 2 doctors over the years, naive as I was, I believed them when they told me my cycle was supposed to be like that. I wish today I asked my mates before how they bled, but it's something I don't go asking, it embarrassing for the both of us! Now I know a lot more about things, I make it my business if somethings not right . If your not convinced you agree with a doctor's prognosis, go to another, if you don't feel happy at the 2 nd one, go to a third. It's not nice to say, but the truth is, it is so hard to find a doctor these days who loves what he does! But there still are some totally awesome and amazing docs out there, keep searching and you'll know when you found a good one. I felt I needed people to know this because I could of had such a less miserable life if I went and got another opinion, might not have needed anti depressants for way too many years ! So, I noticed the year on one complaint about mirena's was 2010, next one I read was 2016. I had no clue they got recalled until I read your page. I haven't been informed of anything, can you let me know if I should be getting it removed right now, cause if I didn't type my question about the new mirena stinky smell, I still wouldn't know. Officially this is not a complaint until you tell me these complaints are from years ago.
Thanks

Mirena IUD Reaction

Hi I had the mirena coil inserted not as a contraceptive but to control heavy periods. Within a month of having the coil I suffered a severe bout of depression, having never suffered from depression this was a shock to myself and family.Resulted in having to take 3 months out of work.I Recieved treatment continued with everyday life returned to work.I then suffered from an ulcerative pain condition, severe lethargy, aching joints, nausea, swollen abdomen and the worst headaches I have ever experienced.I have also bizarrely having never experienced any food allergies a gluten intolerance.
Throughout the past 14 months I have been dressing an ulcerative rags which would not heal, I have been under the care of numerous specialist such as a general surgeon, dermatologist, GP, wound care specialist and gastro enterologist and gynaecologist.
I have had numerous treatments, test, biopseies, blood tests, gastroscopy, topical and oral antibiotics so many I've lost count.I have list many days with my young children due to these debilitating side effects .On the 7th of July I eventually had the mirena coil removed, already the ulcerative rash has almost healed, the severe headaches have gone, I cam tolerate small amounts of gluten. Some symptoms remain but I am convinced that I have doesn't 14 months suffering due to having something I felt was there for my benefit.Feeling so angry and let down.I would love to hear from others whom have experienced similar symptoms

Mirena IUD horrible iud choice: mirena

I got my IUD in almost exactly 10 months ago and it was lifechanging. Not in a good way either! I searched for years for a birth control that was easy to use and didn't make me feel like I was pregnant, but ten times worse, as most hormone BCs do to me. I wanted to try the mirena and when it dropped in cost with my insurance provider I immediately got my Mirena. I have had more health issues since then than I've had in years. I have had a lot of sharp abdominal pain, heartburn, severe migraines (I even saw neurologists and had a brain tumor scare), severe change in vision, issues regulating my moods, etc. And it's so easy to find explainations for SOME of the issues and when I'd see a doctor I'd always say "By the way, I'm on the Mirena." Only one doctor, my GP, thought it could be contributing to my problems. My new OB is such a fan of this thing that he thinks there's no way that a woman can have longer periods on it, irregular, etc. "Those must be contributed to something else." No sir, I don't believe that. I'm having this thing yanked out. I'm almost in constant pain these days from one thing or another and I feel like a crazy person going to doctor after doctor. I'm going to get it removed and pray that the 30 pounds I've gained since insertion drop, along with all of the other odd symptoms I'm suddenly experiencing. I think women should definitely do what they feel is best for them, but I know that for all the women I've known on Mirena, they've all hated it. Gotten it removed early, or on time and never had it re-inserted.

Mirena IUD Recalled?

I did not know this was recalled. The hospital that I got it from didn't even let me know or did not send me nothing in the mail. So far I got no side effects. What should I do? Go to the doctor and take it out? I clearly understand that there would be side effects, but did not get anything. I got it placed in 2009 of June. Someone help!

Tammy- I was searching on the internet and happened upon this Complaint Board, which I did not know existed. In so doing I wanted to make sure that you are aware that there are many women with similar symptoms who have problems because their Mirena IUD has migrated. So, my advice would be that if you haven't done so already, you should consider seeing a gynecologist to specifically investigate whether your Mirena IUD has migrated. -Stephanie

I had Mirena put in about 5 years ago, a couple of months after my first child. My body went into absolute havoc right from the first day. I bled for hours and had huge, horrible blood clots and intense, severe pain. Finally, my husband rushed me to the ER and the doctor who happened to b the same doctor who put the device in a few hours before said he could not find it! He said my body must have expelled it during all the bleeding. They stabilized e because I was dehydrated from losing all the blood and sent me home. I followed up with an ultrasound and the radiologist did not say the IUD was not in place but that "She could not see it." Well after that my periods have never been the same. I have had months of continuous, nonstop bleeding, intense pain that has st me to the emergency room many times and have not been able to conceive for 5 years. I m married and I have been trying to have a child for 5 years-nothing! I am so disappointed that no one told me about all the risks involved before I did it. So for anyone reading this post, don't do it! Your body will thank you and you will be happy you didn't.

Mirena IUD mirena problems

I had my mirena inserted 4 weeks after having my youngest daughter and it wasn't such a big deal, I didn't have a period from after I had it inserted and I didn't think much of it. I started have side effects about a year after it was inserted my back started hurting I had lost all of my sex drive couldn't loose weight and was loosing my hair to the extent that I could not put it up or I would pull out a hand full of hair it was even falling out by the handful when I went to was it. Well about 3 months ago the strings to my Merina fell out and my Merina became dislodged and was sideways not to mention I ended up with cervical cancer as well. I had to have a leep procedure done for the cancer and then they had to do a DNC to remove the Merina after it was removed it feels like a weight has been lifted and everything is slowly returning to normal I would not recommend it to anyone yes in some cases it helps prevent pregnancy but then the effects it has on some is not worth it. I would have rather brought another baby into this world insets of having to pay thousands in medical bills for the problems it has caused for me and my family!

I'm having the same problem. I went to the doc to have it removed, they couldn't find it. So I had an ultrasound and they said it is sideways. In THREE weeks I will have a consult with the doctor to find out if they will have to do sugery or how they will get it out. Until now, they had treated all my complaints like I was crazy. They ran every conceivable blood test, just to have them come up clear. One even recommended I get a catscan to see if I had a brain tumor causing my problems! Horrible product.

Mirena IUD disloding of device

My daughter had the Mirena IUD implanted after the birth of her daughter in 2009. She recently had to have it removed because it had totally flipped upside down and was causing her severe abdominal pain. She now has been contacted by the doctor and told that she has cervical cancer. I want women to think 100 times over before they chose to have this device implanted for birth control. I am a walking mess right now just waiting to find out what is going to happen. I have read many different complaints about this and they all describe the same symptoms that my daughter has had.

I had the Mirena put in 2007 and am now going to doctor to have a test on Friday because I have thickness of the uterine wall which I am told I have to have a minor test done (which after I looked up could be for cancer also). I also have been told that my liver enzymes were up. I had bumps at one time on my pelvis area like a blister but doctor did biopsy and we never did find a cause. I hated using this IUD but needed something. There is always risks of using things. Glad you started this so if this needs to be recalled they will. I will keep you posted in about three weeks of my biopsy. Say a prayer for me. I am doing the same for you.

Mirena IUD iud honolulu hawaii

I am 35 years old, I have had horrific LONG-painful periods my whole life. I have had 7 miscarriages, and birth control pills do not work. My doctor suggested Mirena; it would put my eggs on hold hopefully getting my uterus healthy enough to have babies to term. My last chance and last hope of conceiving, and getting me healthy enough. This was a sad sad ending. The first time I tried Mirena it hurt so bad for 4 days thy had to take it out. The second time it was inserted I was sedated and it was supposedly a success. On the third day I got really sick. For 8 days I kept calling the doctor, going in and nothing was happening. One morning I woke up and I was unable to urinate and have a bowel moment without screaming. I had a fever of 104, took Tylenol and went to bed. Next morning my fever was even higher. I packed my bags took a shower and header to the ER. The ER doctor took out the Mirena and sent me for a CT scan. That is when they saw an abnormality in my uterus. I was there for 5 days. Doctors telling me that I had herpes, a UTI, and maybe cervical cancer. None of it was true. I had to bare through a horrific inside my Va Jay jay ultra sound, and then it was confirmed I had PID I was the unlucky less than 1% to be diagnosed. Now I have a removal surgery scheduled and I am deemed infertile. I will never have a child of my own. Don't do it! Don't get it done if youhave never had a child. You may be like me and learn you will never have a baby.

Mirena IUD iud

I am someone who has very regular, light periods naturally. I have three children (two of which I became pregnant for while taking the pill), so I decided that I wanted to have my tubes tied because I was done having children. My doctor told me that I was too young and that I may regret my decision, so why not chose a long term birth control that wasn't a pill. She recommended mirena to me. I was told that almost all of the office staff had one and that I would really love it. I decided to get mirena. The mirena was inserted while I was still on about the last day of my period. My period had been going on for about 6 days. The bleeding got a little heavier the day of insertion (which I believe is normal), and that is where my problems began. It has been 5 weeks and I am still bleeding! I have had heavy bleeding everyday for over a month. I was anemic before insertion, so now I am so weak and tired that it is hard for me to function. I am taking a full course load in college and have three children to take care of, but now I find myself so tired and headachey that I don't even want to study or move. I called the dr.'s office and reported to them what was going on two weeks ago and I was told that this was completely normal. I don't believe it. I feel miserable. I can't have sex because of the bleeding, and even if I could I am so exhausted that it doesn't even cross my mind. It is ruining my relationship, not to mention that I constantly feel dirty because of the constant heavy menstrual bleeding. I think mirena should be taken off of the market!

More research should be done on woman who have used the Merina. I had the Merina for a year and a half and suffered with depression. I felt that something was off, made the appointment with my OBGYN to ask her the questions about the side affects of the Merina I told her about my recent depression she assured me that It was not from the Merina. I decided to take it out to ensure myself that I was not going crazy. To my surprise I felt better. I had a couple of my girlfriends experience similar side affects after getting the merina implant.. Once they listened to me they got them out.

Anytime that you put something foreign into your body you can be assured that the body is going to react, especially when it is dealing with our reproductive system. I think that woman should think twice about selecting the IUD methods for birth-control.

Mirena IUD omg

had mirena inserted in october 2010 it is now april 2011. i have gained weight not been able to lose. mood swings. constantly aching body. i am only 24 i feel like an old lady. i wake up everyday just not wanting to get out of bed. i blame it on my 3 year old rolling around on me but thats not it. i am basically bi-polar right now. i can snap about anything. i am always worried like anxiety has consumed me. calling the doc to have this removed. thought the 5 years would give me enough time to decide about another baby before doing anything permanent.

Mirena IUD terrible side effects

I had Mirena placed in 5/2010. 4 Months later I began having hives, had trouble losing weight, started losing hair, had an increase in migraines, ovarian cysts, abdominal cramping and increased anxiety. When I went to have it removed, my OB first wanted a thyroid test because "most of my side effects were not related to Mirena". Thyroid test was normal so I went to have it removed. My OB stood in front of me and said that the hives, hair loss, weight issues and migraines were not related. How can this be accurate if you go straight to the official Mirena website and look at all the side effects. regardless of how rare they are. ALL of my side effects are on the list. What makes me even more made is that I could overhear another DR. telling another patient that there are hardly any side effects for this birth control. Now, I know that every person reacts different to medicines but the doctors should be honest about "potential" issues. I should have done more research, that is for sure. I honestly believe that the Dr.s are being incenteted for pushing this BC, it is a darn shame. They don't have to live with the misery that is could cause!

Mirena IUD mirena recall

I have had the IUD mirena since 9-5-07. Things ere going well until I started having serious pain in my groin area. I constantly had a feeling of pressure and my left and right side hurt, pretty much all the time. I started hurting so bad I went to the emergency room. They told me because of my IUD, they could not examine me because of the liability issues. So they gave me Tylenol 3 with codeine and sent me home. Then I went to my doctor. He told me that I have a cyst on my left ovary, the size was 2" by 2". It was so big, you could see it sticking out of my skin when I was laying down. Then I had some small cysts on my right ovary. But the pain just wasn't my ovaries, I had tumors within my uterus as well. I was not aware there was a recall on this device until today. Now I have to have a hysterectomy, I am only 36 years old. I have a friend who is going through the same thing, she is only 22 years old. I can not seem to get it narrowed down to where I can find the recalls.

41 year old female, had my Mirena placed 11/2013. Severe cramping for 2 to 3 weeks afterward however as a RN myself I related this to the newly foriegn body that was just inserted in my uterus. My periods completely stopped after 6 months with some mild chronic cramping easlily tolerable. September 2016 I began having chronic lower back pain on right and left side without sciatica and severe right groin pain, nothing eased it except positioning my body, after many doctors, xrays, lumbar MRI, PT and I am also a previous fitness trainer...I realized this could be the IUD MIRENA! I have been moody, depressed, hypertensive, and increase in headaches /miagraines. Getting this out April 13, 2016! Please Pray for successful removal.

We all need to start a petition to Obama because i didn't pay to get this in and I shouldn't have to pay to get it taken out. I have been having pains in my stomach and also my growing area. I can not afford to get it taking out. I also wanted my tubes tied but my doctor pretty much predicted my future by telling me that I am going to have more kids and is going to get married. This is my 3 year having this and I want this out and my tubes tied but I can't do nothing about it. I also have been hearing on the new that women have been firing from this thing. My doctor said it was something new and haven't been out before but this have been out and I have had ladies that is older and told me that have bad this and it was recalled back then.

I've had the Mirena since Feb 2011. Everything was great for the first 6 months, no bleeding, no cramping, in a woman's world, I was in heaven, especially after just having a baby (third one). That's when the weirdness started. I've always had a minimal amount of daily discharge but it increased. Also, I began to get cramps in my pelvic area, I never had a problem with cramps! Then sex became painful on a regular basis, as I've read several other women, this is common with the IUD. I had the same problem, pain to the point that I went to the ER. Same result, exam, ultrasound, and then sent home with a diagnosis of PID and a benign cyst, with pain mess and an antibiotic. When I asked my MD about this, he said it was normal and these were regular side effects! Since then I've just been putting up with it because I've always had feline problems in that area and thought it was related... Until now. Now that I know there are hundreds to thousands of women with the same problems that have had sever repercussions I am DEFINITELY going to have this checked out. Also, I share the same effects such as mood swings, slight depression, more anxiety than normal, and extreme laziness. There must be something wrong wi this thing. They say that usage has increased 700% since 1995. Why? Because most doctors encourage and push the use of it because its cheaper than alternative methods. Don't they think that we are more concerned with our health and life than money?

I'm 30yrs old with two kids... The Mirena has actually been the Best form of BC I've ever had... I do not get my periods, do not gain weight, my mood swings are better than any other hormonal BC and although the removal of my first IUD was a bit painful, considering it was in my body for 4 years, it wasn't as Horrible as I thought it would be. I know every woman's body will react/reject it differently, but from My experience, I highly recommend it to anyone to at least try it.

I am 25 and got the Mirana in 2008. I haven't had any problem that I've noticed. Wondering why so many are having problems?

Mirena IUD Mirena IUD Problems

I had Mirena "installed" on 7/20/09, since then I have experienced non-stop bleeding...I believe there was a 3 day period where I did not bleed. I also have had cramps, depression, anxiety, my body hair growth went out of control (I have to shave my legs once a day!) and recently clumps of my hair on my head started falling out. This is on top of the strings poking my boyfriend's member and pressure and pain that I feel occasionally during intercourse.

I remember reading the pamphlet during a doctor visit while pregnant and thinking how perfect it sounded as a birth control...5 years of worry-free protection, low-dosage of hormones, very little side effects supposedly.

If I had known then what I know now about its side effects I would never have had it put in. The hair-loss is my biggest complaint...I have PCOS and while on the pill to treat it a few years back, clumps of my hair had fallen out. I *FINALLY* had grown my all that hair back, and now it's all gone to pot again. I am royally PO'ed about it all.

I had the nightmare device placed around April 2008 shortly after having my son, sick with cramps, aggitation, nausea, body aches, headache, and anxiety until Thanksgiving 2009 when I woke with fever, chills, dizziness, blurred vision and pelvic pain. Upon going to the doctor they informed me that I had a severe pelvic infection and treated me accordinly with immediate injections of antibiotics and oral meds and pain releif. NEVER TOOK THE MIRENA OUT, it was asvised for me not too. Had same symptoms as before infection after a few weeks of treatment ... up until the unexplained fever started in May 2010 had constant fever and flu like symptoms for about 6 weeks with no diagnoises from doc they told me probley a virus or a string of them, finaly put on antibiotics after a trip to ER that time but fever got higher, started with severe headaches, body aches and dizziness, had a friend help get me out of bed and drive me to the doctor on July 5 2010... Then the story begins... I was so very sick my teeth where chattering so hard i broke some off, they immediatly saw the shape i was in and ordered blood work and a complete exam, everything hurt so bad and the pain was unbearable but it was mostly hurting in my pelvic region like going into labor. They took out the IUD without haste and it was RUSTED! Anyway the doc said it must have been a defective one. Given again immediate shots of several fast acting antibiotics and sent to the ER for more tests and bloodwork, there they did CTs of my abdoman to show the severe infection that the Attending Doc said must have been there a while... More antbiotis given oral and by injection. 3 days later July 8th I was admitted to the hospital not responding to the meds the infection in my whole body got worse, and was in there a week with horrific pain, 5 different Meds in IV's, blood clots in my lungs developed while in, and severe dibilitating pain. Still fighting this thing to this day Jan 2011 I am not 100 percent, went through many tests since release...too msny pelvic exams to count, colonoscopy, bloodwork, CTs of pelvic and chest, lots of Doc appointments and ER trips when the symptoms return. I have to date been on 13 antibiotics since July and came close to loosing my life, and due to scar tissue on all reproductive organs may never be able to have children again, fighting the docs not to have a hysterectomy, I still have hot flashes, heart palpitations, headaches, deppression/anxiety and low grade fevers as my body trys to get healed from this and maybe never will be !00 percent since this devil device Mirena was inserted and taken out. I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND MIRENA TO ANYONE, IT WILL KILL THEM! (Safe with no side effects or risks? REALLY?)

Hello, my name is Niki, and I just signed up. I had Mirena put in over a year ago and from the beginning until the end, the symptoms you posted, I have had. They got worse and finally in August 2009, I had severe pain under my belly button area, hot & cold I was. I felt like I had to use the restroom, that was not it. I was dizzy and thought I needed to vomit, no, not it. It was on a weekend vacation and no I did not listen to my relarive who is a nurse and go to the hospital. I "toughed it out"... ALL NIGHT! Then I started to bleed, thick, dismissed it as my period. Sore I was the next 2 days or so. Miscarriage?! I had it removed yesterday, it was coming out he said, it was in the cervix. Much more to say...

Mirena IUD iud symptoms

I had Mirena inserted on may 13, 09. I was so excited that I wouldnt have a period for 5 years. Boy do I regret that now. I have had major mood swings to the point where my boyfriend of 3 years and I broke up. I have had no sex drive at all, I didnt even want to kiss my boyfriend. During my pregnancy I gained 75 pounds because of hypertension. I lost 50 and am gaining it back even after excercise and healthy eating habits. I have been getting a sharp pain in my right side which I believe is in my ovary. After showering I still am getting a bad odor down there, which is not normal for me. I have been losing a lot of hair which may be from having my daughter... or it may be this damn IUD. I feel so lazy and rundown, like I just dont want to get out of bed. I am going to call my midwife to have it removed! I have had 3 friends with similar complaints

Mirena IUD Mirena

I had the mirena put in january of 2009. At first I was experiencing the reg. Cramps, light spotting, ect. Which was fine. But several months went by and the cramping didnt stop. The the weight gain and stand still (with daily excersize and diet) since I didnt have aproblem with weight loss after my 1st son I was a little concerned but not due to I am part hispanic. Then came mood swings and crazy amounts of cramping and nausia. Now after my husband and I have sex my stomach hurts so bad I cant even sit down. Also migranes, leg cramps and pains, cold sweats, heart beating way too fast, mood swings, and anxiety, sweaty palms, and hot flashes. About 3 weeks ago during intercourse my husband and I felt the mirena move out of place and I had severe cramps afterward and called my gyn. She said everything was fine and there is nothing to worry about... Only it has been about a month now and the pain is getting worse and she is out having surgery! I am in so much pain and I am feeling nausious and ive had a migrane for 3 days! Help us! This thig sucks and I wouldnt wish this pain on my worst enemy!

I have have Mirena for almost 5 years and only had cramping for the first month or so. My doctor even gave me an ultrasound to make sure it was put in correctly. The cramping stopped. You need to go back to your doctor and get an ultrasound to see if it is put in correctly. Put some things are not for everyone. It has been perfect for me. I am ready to get it taken out in a month. good luck.

Mirena IUD mirena side effects

MY STORY

My Mirena was removed on 29th May 2008.

I had the Mirena put in four years ago, I had terrible pain the day after, it was that bad I was going to go to the hospital Emergency to get the thing out but I put up(the worst thing I done in my life, Im paying for it now) with it and it and the pain got a bit better, had a lot of bleeding (spotting) for the first six months and then it finally went away. For the first year I thought Mirena was Great but then the problems started.I started to gain a lot of weight, facial hair, Very sore breasts, I also had a lump removed from my left breast a couple of years ago, but I didnt know until recently that it was most likely caused by Mirena. Some of the other problems I had, My stomach bloated, I look like I'm six months pregnant, I have a cyst on my left ovary, dry skin, acne, strange depression, headaches, and the Worst of all I had to have my Thyroids REMOVED on 1st Nov 2006 and I'm pretty sure that was caused by Mirena as well, so now I have to take thyroid Medication for the rest of my life, I had the Mirena removed as soon as I done some searching on the internet for my unexplained medical problems, mainly my weight as I had weighed about the same my whole adult life and now I had put on a few stone and now I have to try and lose it, as for my thyroid I have trouble getting the Meds right its a real pain, blood tests all the time.I just dont feel I have much left in my life, depressed, sick all the time. I eat well as I have high cholesterol so its not that I over ate, I noticed you do feel a lot more like eating sweet things. I found a site called www.curezone.com and found out there are thousands of woman, girls with the same problems as myself and that there is a class action law suit going on to Sue. Its worth having a look at this site it helped me a lot.I feel so bad I dont go out anymore I dont see friends or family I'm to depressed about my weight now. I am in the process of trying to find out if there is a Class Action Law Suit in Australia. If anyone knows of a Class Action in Australia could they Please let me know. After having the Mirena removed about 6 weeks ago I thought I was doing ok only a bit of spotting, but about 3 weeks after having it removed I got my period and the pain was unbearable, I was in agony stomach cramps and I bleed so much I thought I was going to die from blood loss, also the scariest was the huge blood clots, very scary, must of been four years of period in 1 week I couldnt believe how bad it was, I felt really sick and weak, but thank goodness its eased off now after a week. I just hope now I might slowly start and feel like my old self. Im also on medication for heart palpatations, I get Heart palpitations (SVT) a few times a week, I had my heart palpitations just after my thyroid removal op and was put on ecg and my heart rate was 176 Beats per Minute I was rushed to Intensive Care and I had to have an injection called Impending Doom (It makes you feel you are going to die) to slow my heart rate, it worked and I was kept in intensive car for 3 days, very scary thing to go through I hope I never have to go through that again, my heart palpitations got worse while I was on Mirena and now I also take Magnesium to help control them as well as Metoprolol which I have been on for some years and I recently read that if you are on Mirena it increases the side effects of Metoprolol.

So if you have had any bad experiences with Mirena please let us know, it will help others with their problems, hopefully. I just wish I never got Mirena and my advice is DONT its not Worth the risk, if the Doctors had of told me about the BAD side effects I would NEVER of had it put in. Sorry about going on so long, Good Luck to you all,

Thanks Net.

my daughter has just had the Mirena coil removed after years of suffering stomach cramps, chronic back pain, swollen heavy leg, headaches, bloated feeling and feeling low and not sleeping. Been treated for IBS I found these sites about the Mirena coil and asked her if this is the one she had and told her about it, she went the same day to the family planning clinic and got it removed, at once she felt 100% better this was 2 days ago so hopefully she will return to the fun loving person she was, still has back pain but hope this will clear in time. over the years she has had many tests and ultra sounds etc. but the coil was never mentioned hope she is now cured, good luck to everyone.

I have to agree with the posters list of complaints. I've had my Mirena IUD in for 4 years now. The first 2 years I was happy with it too. I even had some of the earlier symptoms that I brushed off as being part of pre-menopause that I now know are related to the Mirena. The early symptoms started about 3 months into insertion (in addition to bleeding & spotting for the 1st 6 months), I had a rash like outbreak on my arms & legs and my face was flushed beat red with hot flashes. That is why I thought of the pre-menopause but I was only 41 an my mother didn't go into menopause until her 50's and I never had any of these problems before insertion so it was not oncoming before the Mirena. Then I started have anxiety and mood swings for the 2nd year. i would panic and fixate on whatever event was bothering me at the time, blowing everything all out of proportion. Then I would just have an extemely anxious feeling coupled with irrability. This was also totally non existant before the Mirena but I once again explained it off as a sign of oncoming menopause. About year 2 my joints would ache and I just figured great now I have arthritis. Year #3 I started noticing my hair loss even though my hairdresser started telling me two years earlier that I was loosing me hair I never noticed it myself until year #3. I always had thick curly hair now it is fine and thin, so thin in some areas my scalp shows. My hair line has receaded almost half way up my head and is very thin on the sides. That was my limit on accepting all my ailments. I knew something had to be causing the growing list of symptoms other than my supposed oncoming early menopause. I took stock of changes in my life since I turned 40. Yes, I has seperated from my husband but since the seperation my life has been completely stress free so that was actually an impoovement there. My diet was the same if not better. I was on no mediaction the only change in my life was I had the Mirena IUD device so I did a web search under " Mirena & hair loss ". Bingo! I am not alone...I was totally shocked to find so many woman with the same list of complaints to various degrees from slight symptoms to flat out life will never be the same.

I figured that's it, I'm have it removed. I made my appointment and expecte my gyno to talk me out of it...she actually agreed readily and scheduled an appointment 1 month away. She even admitted that women are coming back in roves to have this device removed and some gyno's are refusing to insert them anymore. She asked me to verify a list of symptoms I was having...all were mentioned above so the medical community is NOT unaware of this. So 2 weeks before my removal appointment I go for my physical and have blood work done just for a screening and I get a call back that I now have hypothyroidism. Why am I not surprised...there have been numerous complaints from Mirena device users of having thyroid issues since it's insertion. I have never had a single health issue other than high chlorestirol before the Mirena IUD now I am about 50% bald and may have to have thyriod mediaction for the rest of my life. I do attribute this to the Mirena, I know my body. The Mirena is thankfully being removed next week and I can't get it out soon enough! I will post my improvements on hair regrowth and if my thyroid issues disappear too. To anyone who is considering this device please change your mind and go with other options.

Mirena IUD Terrible service!

I was attacked by dr todd m beste while being seen by another doctor. may 23 2005 i was getting the mirena removed and my doc could not find it, he left me in th stirrups against my will and request to remove the specula and exited the room. He came back and i heard a new voice say there has never been one of these i could not get out, i felt stabbing pains jabbing in my uterus til i screamed stop. I was in shock that i was being assaulted on the table. The sound is still in my head, it sound like he was making beating on drums, cause the retrieval hook was hitting against the metal specula. I could not believe what had just happened with a cna in the room. dr todd m beste did not wash his hands or wear gloves because all that stuff was beside the head of the bed, so i never say his face or knew his name until i got a second set of medical records. I didn't see his face for months until i decided to google the name that belonged to my nightmare and a face popped up. Finally the dr giggles had a face. dr todd m beste caused an infection and swelling in my uterus, his nurses and secretaries hung up on me and ignored me for 3 days and 30 phone calls. i finally went to get my own records on the 3rd morning and they made me get on the scale, i almost fainted when i saw i had lost 20lbs, they wanted to admit me. WHY would i let these crazy people put me to sleep now after ignoring me for days. ECU school of medicine kept lying to me saying they were calling in percocet prescription for me, they never did. dr todd m beste is a crazy quack he did not have my consent to touch me and if you google his name you would not a man with a face like that play inside your body either. I talk about the side effects of the mirena on the http://www.curezone.com/forums/f.asp?f=713 dr todd m beste violated me and i suffer from PTSD because of what he did to me. Its been 3 years and i still have not gotten over it, he will not apologize or anything, He just moved to a new location.
