I would like to share with you the experience I had while giving birth at Ruby Memorial Hospital.

I was pregant with my second child and I was 2 days late. My water broke at 8am and I waited a little while for my contractions to be closer together. My husband got me there at about 10:30. I was having pretty frequent contractions then and they told me I was dialated to 5cm. So I wait to be put in the room I was going to deliver in. I was finally moved when it was close to 12. After getting hooked up to monitors and answering some questions for about 20 minutes they decide that I needed pitocin. I asked why they were doing that because I was induced with my first and I had said that I did NOT want to be induced this time. I was told that my contractions weren't consistent enough. One of the questions they had asked was what I wanted for pain. I had said that I wanted and epidural. So I thought, ok they should be getting that ready for me. So after about 10 minutes on the pitocin I said I needed the epidural asap. After another 10 minutes they had to stop the pitocin because my contractions were so strong I was screaming. They told me that the anesteciologists(sp?)were in with a c-section. So apparently if I had also needed a c-section I would have been screwed. I don't understand why a labor and delivery floor wouldn't have enough people to do more than one epidural.

At about 12:55 they say that it's time to start pushing. I was in so much pain I was screaming my head off. A lovely nurse decided that she was going to try to put her hand over my mouth to try and quiet me down. I couldn't believe that she had done that. At 1:02 my son was born and I was so happy. Then I found out I had a 3rd degree tear. That was not fun. Anyways when they take my son to clean him off and weigh him I was shocked to hear what was said. The main Dr. said "Look he has a big d*ck like his dad." Yes, those exact words. I'm sorry if some of you would laugh at that but I was very offended. He wasn't my main Dr. and I had only seen him once before so it's not as if I had a comfortable relationship with him. He was a creepy and apparenly perverted old man.

I thought that child birth was supposed to be happy and special. They robbed that from me. My son is now 8 months old and still to this day I am horrified of my experience. Not to mention the fact that they knew that I am hyper-moble so my joints and ligaments stretch farther than they are supposed to. I had problems in my pelvis with pain from my first son. My delivery was very tramatic to my pelvis and I am still in pain every day from it. Thankfully we have since moved so I never have to step foot in that place again.

I am so sorry that happened to you. I had a very similar experience at Ruby as well. I called them sunday, telling them I felt... "wetter" than normal and they told me if there was no bloody show I was fine. Tues night I went into the ER and told them i felt like I was in labor and they told me to have a seat in the waiting room, where I sat for a good hour then they had me walk upstairs myself. Sure enough when I went in Wend. morning, when i finaly made it to the floor, they said "your def. in labor, you should have been here a while ago" because my daughter had already pooped. When I was asked if I wanted a spinal, it took several hours, because it was in the middle of a shift change. haha. Im pretty sure they make enough money yo stay and do one more person who is scared of death and about to give birth. After hours of pain they decided on a section anyways and forgot to grab the father of the baby. He missed her being cut out and only saw her for a few seconds before they took her from him, after I had a yell loud enough over the oxygen that I needed him in there. Also half way threw the section, I heard the Dr. say "Omg.. I am so tired. this is my 5th section already this morning" Which it not what you want to hear when someone is cutting you open. They left me in bed for 3 days, and acted like I was a pain in the butt when I asked for my pain medican. I've never been happy with my experiences at Ruby and thats why I now work in the birth center at Mon General. I Will NEVER threat my patients the way I was treated there.

My wife has was referred to Ruby Memorial to see a podiatrist about her right foot back in Oct. When we went to first appt was told by Dr. Kelly that she was going to try an injection to see if that will correct my wife's foot and was also told that in a couple of days if it was still messed up to call her office and on next appt. we would have a pre op to save us from traveling an hour and half one way. So when we called her office to report that the shot failed the nurse stated she will give Dr. Kelly message. The next appt. at end of Oct. no pre op scheduled as a matter of fact she thought my wife was there for a bunion, and when we mentioned pre op she acted like she didn't remember the conversation. After multiple calls to her office and to patient advocate's office we were told today that we refused appt. and it was our fault her foot is stilled not fixed. I have seen cover ups by public offical's before but to have two depts. in a hospital lie for each other is ridiculous. Also she was told that they gave her a subscription for pain meds and she was not even given as a matter of fact we got a script for 20 pain pills on first visit and nothing since .My wife's foot is deformed now due to negligence on hospitals behave . There are a few good Dr. there I have seen them, that care about patients not there to collect a paycheck and to hell with patient's. I really hope someone in admin looks into this complaint and does something before someone else dies because of negligence .we are seeking a new Dr. outside of Morgantown to get her the proper care she needs. Someone in admin needs to do there job and start checking on these people who pretend to be Doctors just like Kelly. And after reading some of these complaints I feel lucky but someone needs to step up and do there damn jobs or shut that joke of hospital down for good.

I hope and pray that I never have to go to WVU Hospital again. They need to get their noses out of the computer screens, and actually look at the patients. The computer system there is flawed at best, and has cause my patient care level to be extremely poor. In May I was in a work related accident and life flighted to WVU Trauma. It has been nothing but frustration from the moment I entered this poor excuse for a hospital. I had a laceration to my right knee, I could see my entire knee cap and my shin bone. They waited 12 hours to stitch it because they had other trauma and had no one available to stitch it. Not only did they not stitch it, they did not clean it or cover it. and it was left open and exposed all that time. I also had four broken bones in my back and severe bruising from my shoulders to my ankles. The tire ran over my left ankle leaving tendon and other damage. I had a laceration to my head, elbows skinned deeply, and other scraps, cuts and road rash, thus I was covered in blood. No one, not the ER staff, or the nurses after I was admitted, washed one drop of blood off of me, or cleaned or bandaged any wounds, until I was able, with help, to get out of bed the next day, get in the shower, and wash myself. When I got back to the bed, after a shower, the bed sheets were gross. The blood had dried and now looked like there was a brown powder all over the bed. I had to stand and wait after I insisted that the bed sheets be changed. I had at one point asked the curt nurse to please get a wash pan and wash the dried clump of blood out of the back of my hair, as I was being made to stay on my back and felt like I had a rock under my head. She took two fingers and picked around in the hair, so she could see it, and said "it's pretty nasty, it would probably hurt worse washing it out then leaving it there." and left the room and never did anything about it. The broken bones in my back were determined not to be compression fractures meaning that it was probable that moving would cause no harm to my spine. The Dr. came to my room the evening of the accident at approx. 10 PM, he told me that since I did not have compression fractures I could move carefully and lie on my side. What a relief, I had been on my bruised back for 11 hours. He exited explaining that per proper protocol he was going to get an associate to help him remove the cervical brace, but in the meantime I could roll to my side. What a relief! He never returned to remove the brace. At about 11 PM a new nurse was on shift, she entered the room and said excitedly, "WHAT ARE YOU DOING, YOU ARE SUPPOSE TO BE ON YOUR BACK." I explained that the Dr. had been in and cleared me for movement. She insisted I return to my back because there were no such orders in the computer. Yep, that's right, the Dr. left the hospital, forgetting all about me, and put no orders in the computer. I asked her to call the Dr., but have since been told by a nurse there that they are not allowed to call the Dr.'s off duty, in fact some of them don't even provide phone numbers for that vary reason. So I was left flat on my bruised back all night long. I called the patient advocate, she offered no help, in fact she asked me if she could discuss my concerns with the trauma Dr., I told her sure. I had an appt with that Dr. about 4 days later, upon arriving he said, "I understand you have some issue with your care in the trauma unit." I said yes, and proceeded to a long explanation of the facts. When I was done, he chuckled, and said, "well that sucks, don't it?" My son was with me, we couldn't believe it, I think my mouth fell open in disbelief, he offered no explanation or apology. I was to see him again the next week, when I called to schedule, I was told he was no longer with WVU. When I asked if he was dismissed or left on his own accord, I was told she was not at liberty to say. Well that's a surprise. I have called the patient advocate over and over, it has been a waste of my time, she is worthless. I could go on and on and on, and site many other problems I have had, but I am tired of typing. As my saga continues, my advice is, DO NOT GO TO WVU HOSPITAL. It has caused me extreme frustration and drained my energy, which I don't have to spare, while I am trying to recover and regain life as normal as I know it.

My son was born at Ruby on August 2, 2011. I read an article that was published at the advertiser.com that describes the experience I had at Ruby. I received a false negative drug test and was assumed guilty until proven otherwise. The otherwise came when my son’s test came back negative. I think about this event on a weekly basis! I pleaded for a retest.

In my case the nasty nurse that delivered the news was a nasty social worker. Here is the link to the story that sums up my experience: http://www.theadvertiser.com/story/life/luxury/parenting/2016/05/23/went-into-labor-and-tested-positive-meth/84651054/

I was found knocked out on a roadway and an ambulance takes me to ruby memorial hospital. Doctors decide my brain was swelled and bleeding, so they remove half of my upper skull to allow room for swelled brain. I had to be sent to SSH Laurel Highlands after skull removal so I could be stabilized. Then sent back to Ruby. I could not walk or talk and they put me at Healthsouth and during my stay at Healthsouth I was found walking on Interstate 79 and I didn't even know what my name is. I soon was stable enough to go home. My Healthsouth discharge papers read that my bone flaps would be put back inside my skull in 2 months. It has now been 5 years and 7 months with only skin to protect my brain. WVU has lost my skull and when they removed skull they also removed my jaw muscles, so now I am always choking and I stop breathing 7 times per hour when sleeping. I also was infected by MRSA, I think most people who are hospitalized at Ruby have MRSA afterwards. If someone has a serious medical problem and chooses WVU, they should not expect to get better.
