I purchased a 52" RCA HDTV in 2004 and just yesterday, when I went to turn it on the screen would not come up. There is no sound or picture, I have tried all the options in the owner's manual, but still nothing. I called the customer service team at RCA, but got now where. I informed the rep what the situation was, after she had gone thru all the procedures with out any success, she referred me to an "authorized" repair service in my area. I asked if RCA was going to cover the house call or the repair. She said that since my warranty was over I had to pay out of pocket. It was as if my TV was designed to shut down as soon as my warranty hit its expiration date! Which was 2 months ago. This has never happened before. I have not called the repair people, but come on, the price will be outrageous, we all know that! I think that this is nonsense, i believe that a manufacturer should stand by their product and guarantee the product to work past its expiration date. I would like to get some feedback about this situation.
Aint this a bit%$! i fixed the cl35 capacitor which took 2 weeks to find the replacement part seeing as how the no longer make it. but eventually found its equal at www.tristatemodule.com now my piece of sheet rca does the same blinking 3X and off i want in on ths lawsuit if anyone has info please e-mail me chipoolguy@hotmail.com Thank you.
I have same problem with my tv stupid RCA does the same blinking 3X and off I want in on this lawsuit I tray heir drayer thing and nothing so we need are money from them
We bought our D52W20 in July of 2004 and now it also does the power indicator 3 blinks and off. I contacted a reputable local repair person and he told me it would more likely than not, cost $400 to $500 to fix the problem and that with the reputation of these sets it would probably not work for long. He recommended that I cut my losses and buy a new TV. If there is anyone who has information about the class action suit please e-mail me at TOTALL_2000@YAHOO.COM
I had this problem and it was repaired for a lot of $$$$$. They put in: a coil #268828
Transister #2SC3374
and a capicator .0087 2 KV
I was going to contact RCA, but I see that from the comments contacting them will do no good.
Have any of you tried the "blowdryer trick"? Worked perfectly on my set!
Elaine you are the best! Before I read your comment, I pulled out the hair dryer and my wife looked at me like I was crazy. After a couple minutes I gave up. I kept searching and searching for solutions on the web but came up with nothing until I read your comment. I Immediately jumped up and grabbed the hair dryer again, put it on the highest setting and after 10 minutes Im watching tv again and thanking you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Oh yeah, RCA SUCKS!
I bought a 32' RCA HDTV on 5/5/07 and have started having "on/off"switch problems too. Of course the warranty went out last spring! How do they justify making such an expensive product that doesn't work right after such a short time! How do we sign up for a class action suit?! Sign me up Mary
I AM HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM, TV STARTED ABOUT THREE MONTHS AGO WITH THE POWER LIGHT TURNING ON AND RIGHT BACK OFF THREE TIMES IN A ROW, THE TV WOULD EVENTUALLY COME ON, THEN A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO, IT WOULD NOT COME ON AT ALL. OH, YES, THE POWER LIGHT STILL COMES ON AND OFF THREE TIMES, BUT NEVER A PICTURE.. IM IN ON THE CLASS ACTION SUITE, SEEMS LIKE IT WILL BE THE ONLY WAY WE WILL GET THESE TV'S FIXED OR GET NEW ONES. NEVER AGAIN WILL I BUY AN RCA TV NO MATTER WHAT SIZE!
Thanks Elaine The Hair dryer worked !
It's defininately the 259296 Flyback on the power board . I'm ordering one now for 58 dollars and its recommended to replace the cp150 capacitor for $2.00
I'll let you know how I make out
Doc
Same 3x problem, I'm setting in the dark in front of the computer and my TV turned off. Where can I purchase the 60 dollar fix? Also, with the ovious recall status of these sets, someone should have a lawyer friend read this thread. Lawyers have money and when their RCA did the 3x trick they bought a new plasma tv. I beleve this really has potential for a recall.

My D52W15 died just the other day. The three time death blink. I looked online and found this post and decided not to repair it at this time. 4 YEARS OLD. I have a 10 year old Magnavox 27" that still works like a champ. I went out and bought a 46" Sharp LCD and I am happy now. It sur takes up less space and looks better too. Damn RCA for making me do this in such a short time. I am up for a lawsuit. If anyone knows about one or how to start one let me know. dlwnuk@comcast.net
i too purchased my RCA HDTV 11/06 and the color is distorted. if there's a class action suit i would like more information

Same issue with the red green and blue lines shooting accross the screen. I did get into the Service mode on the TV, you can do that by holding down Channel - and volume - on the front panel of the TV with it off, it will then power on and give you a menu of options.
I did notice under EVENTS, there was an event number 36 that occurred 176 times, they could not tell me what that code is and I argued with them about it, I am so mad right now. That seems like a high number a may give me a clue as to what is wrong. I looked all over for the service manual and not about to pay 60 dollars for it on a tv that costed 1300 only 3 years ago. It's ridiculous. If anyone has any info about the codes, email me please.

Same RCA juck as everyone else has e-mail bg82312078@yahoo.com
I would love to give it back...no RCA junk in this house
We have a 52" HDTV that we purchased in 2005. Since the digital switch, I have used the auto channel scan to find the digital channels. The TV tells me that it has found digital channels, but none of the channels are stored nor can I manually put them in. The one channel that did store once was scrambled and you couldn't make out the picture. It looks like a satellite TV when you're in the middle of a very serious rain storm. The blinking power light happens occasionally but so far it has not been too much trouble. For those of us out in the "woods" w/no cable or satellite, this sucks. One of the reasons we bought it was b/c we knew the digital switch was coming and didn't want to have to worry about "converter" boxes or new TV's.

My RCA is also giving me trouble it does the 3 blinks death thing and just wont go on anymore, mine is also about 3 years old. I called a repair service and it will be over 100 just to come out and who knows how much to actually fix the darn thing. If anyone knows about this class action law suit let me know this isnt right for all of us to just have to give up and buy a new tv some of us dont have the money to just oh well go out and buy a new tv.
I brought my RCA HDTV about 4.5 years ago from QVC and something was wrong with it the day it was delivered. It was fixed and then it did it again about 4 months later. Again, it was fixed free of charge and now here we are again. Bulb leaked onto the mother board/circuit board and now I smell burned electrical equipment coming from the TV after the whole turn on and off thing, even by itself, it turns on and off so I just unplugged it while waiting for the TV repair person to come. They came, basically told me that my TV is a POS and that it would cost me around $1, 013.00 to repair it. Told me that I would be better off just buying another TV. Its 2009 and I am lucky to have a job and a home that I can afford. I can not believe that I now have to go buy another TV! Not RCA, I can tell you that. I have a Mitsubishi TV in my spare bedroom that was purchased in 1992 and the thing still works. Every now and then it makes an annoying sound for about 1 minute but at least I can watch TV on it! I am disgusted with RCA and will never purchase another item from them!
The HAIRDRYER WORKS!
Our D52W20 stopped today, I brought it to a local shop, if they come back with anything over $200 I will try to fix myself of junk it.
WHO HAS INFO ON THE LAWSUIT?
I have a 50" RCA DLP its 2 years old Bought it from walmart first problem was right at the 14 month mark the picture turned all different colors and then went out...Called RCA they said it was the bulb...wasted 179.00 on a new bub and still had the problem...called an auth. RCA repairman he said it was the color wheel and a 500.00 repair. I didnt have the money to fix the TV so I let it go as long as possiable ends up being the problem is the digital board in the back (the brains) of the TV and the board alone is 750.00. So bacically I spent 1300.00 on a TV for 2 years total what a rip off. This is my LAST RCA TV if anyone knowes of a class action lawsuit please let me know
Yep RCA sucks! I have the 52inch and problems started with turning off all the time. Then eventually would not turn on and got the 3 blinks and turn off. The next time we attempted to turn it on it started smoking. I took out the circuit board to attempt to replace the flyback and the part labeled on board (CL031) burned up and left a burn hole in circuit board. I could take picture if anybody wants to see. Doubt I want to attempt to fix to afraid this tv is going to burn down my house. I would love to be part of a lawsuit, someone email me if there is such a thing. jeremy_smith1@msn.com
I have directions for removing the circuit board if anybody is interested.
my tv did the same thing and i have had mine for 6 years
my rca did the as all of you and i have had mine for 6 years
I’ve have the same problem D52W19B. I got caught in the trick bag. I bought the open box sale, Walmart. The thing had been returned and repaired. Probably for the same problem it has now. When I turn it on goes off and comes back on. While watching programs, it would change channels automatically. Now it doesn’t come on at all. We must start the class action suit. This is a trend RCA and Walmart surely knows about.
I had the same problem with the D52W14. It was flashing 3 times and nothing. I used the hair dryer technique (along with the mini vac first) and within 3 tries the TV came on! It took a while to show like normal, but at least its on. Thanks to the one who suggested it!
I have a 52 inch hdtv which i purchased from walmart using my quarters i saved up for about 2 years. just today the picture is bowed and blurred. I have had this tv 2 years. :(.. Never again will i buy RCA junk, unlike my father who said it used to be a honest company in the good old days!
I have the same Problem with RCA HD61W66 61 in. HDTV. When i try to power on the light comes on then goes off and does this 2 more times slowly.
We just moved and i wondered if in the move some thing could have gotten moved around or something.
The tv is only about 3 years old.
I am all for a going after rca! these tvs are not cheap and they should last for more the 2 to 4 years for the love of god! Going to try the dryer trick now.
i think rca and walmart are joined in consumer products walmart has a lot of rca products i bought 52''rca tv july 2004 and yes it still works with same problem blinks off on 3xs took back off blowed out dust gave it a lil heat abara cadabra powers up wthf tv just needs to be warmed up when mp3 players came out i bought a rca lyrica it quit workn after 3mths i had it works only when u give some heat or gets warm i neva had a problem with rca products till recently2004-2009 they cant keep up wth new technology thought they were good brand till now alot of tv repairmen love this model if u get my drift... and now with the digital swicth it really sucks the 1 reason i got it.my grandma got her converter box coupons she told to get it for her at walmart off course they offer too brands rca an magnavox guess what i got? "Really.Careless.A$$ociates. never again will i buy an rca waste of time and money.why wouldnt they be affiliated with walmart everyday low prices
I have the same problem. I turn it on, the light blinks three times and nothing. It takes almost an hour for it to come on of me continuously turning it on and off. By the looks of the complaints, I feel as though one day its not going to come on at all. Keep me informed about whats going on with this.
my 52" television lasted one year. same problem with the television not completely turning on, the turning off. (blinks 3 times...) i HOPE there is a class-action suit forthcoming. i'm not a happy camper, needless to say!
I have the exact problem...I am so pissed. Turn it on, blinks, goes off and then smell smoke. What can we do? Where is the class action suit and how do I get involved? PLEASE< LET ME IN. trammell38@yahoo.com
same thing here and cant find the parts. since it is a fire hazzard it should be a recall
bought my tv in 2005 and last year had the same issue as every one else spent over a year trying to find parts replaced and entire board at the cost of 150 dollars and still not fixed
My RCA TV is only 2 years old and all of a sudden it won't turn on. The power button blinks on and off 3 times then nothing. I've tried everything, even called customer service with no luck. They also referred me to a tv repair specialist. What a rip off! I WILL NEVER BUY AN RCA PRODUCT AGAIN. =)
Yes i honestly think that we all got ripped off, it sounds like we all have the same problem and no idea how to fix it.
we too tried the blow drier and it worked about five times, and now it's doing the same thing. We've only had ours less than 3 yrs. what a piece of junk.
If anyone has a solution to this PLEASE! let me know.
Wow, mine just started doing the same thing. The green light comes on, I can hear the tv, but no picture then it shuts itself off. I'm going to try the hair dryer trick. I pray that it works as I'm in the same boat as everyone else, no money. I've had the tv for almost three years too and purchased it at Walmart. Count me in on the law suit!
RCA SUCKS! my tv is doing the 3times blinking thing also- but the hair dryer tricked worked! I NO LONGER TURN THE TV OFF ANYMORE! I WOULD LIKE TO GET IN ON THE LAWSUIT, WHERE DO I SIGN UP? e-mail is shawty4267@yahoo.com thanxs
I cannot believe how many of us have had the same experience with this RCA HDTV 52"! After only 2 years the audio was heard but no picture, then flashing power botton and off it went. I had someone repair it and cost me $400.00. They told me it was a circuit switch that had gone bad. I thought it was a fluke at that time. 5 months later, while watching a movie, flashing lights were lighting up the picture of purple and green and pink. Just flashing while the movie was playing! I am so sick since I waited 10 years for a large screen TV and now I have a piece of junk that cost me $1700.00!
Something has got to be done! The is modern day rip off! I would never have chosen this product had I seen all of these complaints. I am a single mom and have no extra money to replace this and we do not have a televison set to enjoy anymore!
RCA you need to give us all credit towards buying a new television set with a 10 year warranty!
Shame on you!
I also bought A RCA 52 HDTV and the light blinks three time and then nothing its only two years old im pretty upset about it it cost me over 1000 dollars and I cant afford to replace it . class action suit ? Well that may be the only way to get some repreve count me in to.
As I set here reading all your complaints...I also set and look at my tv in pieces, while my dad tries to figure out this issue...and my son is tryin the "blow dryer" trick...hope it works...please let me know about this law suit. We got out RCA D52W14 in 2003 and have had it repaired once at the cost of $600.00 and it took a week...and now this...AHHHHH!
