In October 2008 I purchased a Dean Markley PT-13 Chromatic Tuner from Guitar Center in Illinois for $59.99. Shortly after purchase, one of the tuner's LED lamps began behaving erratically, then stopped working entirely. Also at times the tuner "freezes" up and fails to operate at all. There is nothing in the accompanying manual about this behavior. I've repeatedly tried contacting Dean Markley via their online web form and telephone for over a month now, but they've responded to neither. While the tuner is still usable, I'm angered and disappointed by the lack of Dean Markley's support for this product. Meanwhile Guitar Center appears to be just as clueless about this product. This is the last Dean Markley product I'll ever buy.
Follow-up: It took four months, but Dean Markely finally started responding to my repeated requests for assistance. After several e-mail exchanges Dean Markley determined that my PT-13 was indeed malfunctioning. They offered to replace the unit if I would send it to their California address. Instead of mailing it out to California, I called my local Guitar Center where I purchased the unit and after explaining the situation, they offered to replace it themselves free of charge if I brought it to the store. And that's what I did. Kudos to Guitar Center! They rock!
Follow-up redux: I've spent four days with my new PT-13 only to discover that while all the LEDs now work, it's UNRELIABLE!
When I step on the stomp button to engage the tuner, the sound cuts out as it should, however half the time the tuner works, half the time it’s totally unresponsive. When it works, it's great; when it doesn't, it's baffling. Battery versus AC adapter makes no difference.
Guitar Center has offered to give me full credit toward a trade-up to the Boss TU-2 Chromatic Tuner.
I've had it with Dean Markley and the PT-13. This is the last Dean Markley product I'll ever buy/swap out/trade in. What a huge waste of time!
