What to say, other than BUYER BEWARE!

After a bad experience, I thought it important to share our experience with this “organization” so you can make an informed decision if you decide to work with them.

We were planning a vacation to Cancun. After being approached by a representative of todaygetaway.com, we made arrangements to go through them to the Villa Del Palmar (we have dealt with similar companies and had wonderful experiences.) I warned them we were over 70 and retired; we were told that was not a problem, nor would we have to attend a presentation (wow!) which surprised us as we had been there several years ago….but we knew it to be a respectable place

A couple days later, we were informed that it was a problem, but they had another place we visit—the Krystal in Cancun. I knew it to be a decent place as we had been there about 10 yrs ago, which I told the representative I was speaking with. The one problem was that since we would be visiting on Jan 2 (part of the NY holiday) they would have to charge us an additional fee….that should have been a red flag, but we agreed.

Long story short, the Krystal supposedly rejected us since we had visited before. When I asked for a refund, I was informed they could only give one if they couldn’t find us a place. I wrote a few days later asking if they found a place; the answer was yes, but it didn’t fall during our parameters of being able to get away. I had to contact them several times to follow up as to what was happening. Finally, they agreed to refund our money, but not the entire amount as the Krystal was charging them because we stayed there before….as I wrote earlier, we never actually had a confirmed reservation so there is weird….

I filed a disputed charge with my credit card company, as I didn’t receive the full amount as initially promised. The representative lied and said the contract stated NO REFUNDS (which I can confirm it does not!) so my CC co refused to follow through.

As the old saying (or rather, misquote) goes, a verbal contract isn't worth the paper it's written on. So, in cases like this, any verbal promises or agreements are worthless; ONLY what's written down on paper counts. One of the things I learned through this experience is to follow up each phone conversation with an email confirming what was said verbally so it is in WRITING!

When we stayed at the two above-mentioned resorts, our experiences were positive, but if this company is now representative of how they work, we will be staying far away...especially knowing there are places that are much better in the way they treat clients/patrons.

Claimed loss: $50.00

Desired outcome: $50.00 to compensate us for wasted time and aggravation, as well as their lies!
