I visited the riverton Utah center for my second ever donation and they made a huge mistake. They took a donation amount for someone over 200 pounds and I am under 150 pounds. Not only did they make this mistake but the staff made me feel super uncomfortable about it when they discovered their mistake. I’m talking 4-5 of the people on the floor surrounding me all saying things loudly like “oh my god is she going to be okay” and “I’ve never seen this happen before” which was not in any way comforting and was quite awkward. Finally after 10 minutes of being stared by everyone in the center the nurse came and told me they had taken way too much plasma and I needed to go into observation. She also told me she’s never seen this happen before. Lucky me. She was very sweet and got me a drink and snack, but I have to admit I felt TERRIBLE the rest of the day. Really nauseous, headache, and absolutely exhausted. I don’t know how a mistake like this can be made but it was very unnerving. I will come back again, but will be extremely cautious and make sure to pay attention to my numbers.
Desired outcome: I mostly want to spread awareness and make the higher ups aware that these mistakes are happening and could be very harmful. I would appreciate extra compensation but that is not my main goal.
BioLife Plasma Services - Donation & Scheduling
I have been donating plasma for awhile now but after these last few weeks I believe that BioLife has gone down hill. They seem to keep over scheduling for appointments and understaffing their centers. This has caused the employees to rush during donations and this last time I went I had an issue which has never happened. This could be prevented if they would not overwhelm their staff and make it seem like they need to rush. I had multiple techs miss my vein and now I have bleeding under my skin. Yes I know the risks of donating but I believe this could have been prevented if the center would manage their time better. I will no longer be donating plasma because this has put a bad taste in my mouth and the risk is not worth the reward.
Donating is a great way to save lives but I would donate at a different center with more experienced workers and some place that has a better scheduling system.
BioLife Plasma Services - SPE Test
I received a low protein count on a routine SPE test. I waited a week took another SPE test which came back normal eight days ago. They keep telling a doctor has to sign off on it. I was told he was going to be 7 days ago and would look at it and I would get a call back. I'm still waiting. I keep calling to check if the doctor as signed off and I kept getting the same story about the doctor signing off. Why is it I have a normal test come back and no one can do their job to put it in so I can donate. I be missed 3 weeks now and going on a month! All because someone can't enter a bormal test into the computer.
BioLife Plasma Services - employee complaint
What are your companies rules for keeping your customers safe or discreet when donating plasma at biolife centers?
One of your employees named kristi iwakane at the riverton, utah location was nasty enough to take pictures/ videos and make fun of clients in that facility by filming while being at work! It sickens me that there is no such thing as privacy anymore and that people have to worry that either their name or picture gets thrown out there on social media while doing something good.
You need to take a deep look on who you let work for your company. Krist is clearly not trustworthy and a shame for doing such thing while at work. I can't express and stress how much this bothers and upsets me. It should be against policy to have their phones out and be able to do such thing.
And on top of all of that she even posted it on social media! She has no permission from anyone to do such thing! I'm sure other patients would hate and feel the same way if they found out about this!
