All American Moving & Storage review: Exorbitant moving charges and refusal to release furniture and personal items even after agreement

I am reaching out for help! Needing to understand what my legal rights regarding charges from a moving company which we believe is overcharging us for services. We hope to get your advice on whether this company can legally charge these exorbitant amounts for a simple pick-up from Coral Springs to their warehouse in Pompano Beach. And to also verify if some if the charges are legitimate and standard policy in the moving/storage business.

Below is a brief outline and sequence of interaction with All American Storage and Moving Company. We would be happy to provide you with invoices and other details of this ordeal. We are hoping that you would consider advising or counsel on how we can recover our items and further reduce the high cost. Both my husband and I are senior citizens 83 and 63 years old with medical and financial challenges. Regrettably we lost our home due to foreclosure and do not have the resources, energy or legal understanding to overcome such unfair challenges at this stage of our lives.

We appeal to you for help, guidance and hope we that you might consider taking our case?!

Here is the outlined sequence of events of what we encountered while

1. On June 28th, I called All American Movers & Storage company for a quote to move our furniture items, arts, paintings, clothing, and other personal items from our home at 12100 NW 10th street. s.

2. I received a quote of approximately $2485.00, understanding that this cost may increase based on the number of hours needed to disassemble the furniture and pack and load it into the moving truck.

3. The company had never visited our home prior to the move to determine our needs, nor did they thoroughly explain the process.

4. The agreement was to provide us with four movers from 11 a.m., June 30th

5. On June 30th, only two movers came and were extremely late and did not arrive until noon, and the other two after 3 p.m. The movers were not very professional and seemed to be observing and talking to us as I packed and focused on smaller items instead of the more oversized items to get them out of the house first.

6. They also use the shrink wrapper more than required. We now realize that the shrink wrap was $800.00 a roll which increase out charges to $3200.00. Regrettable the use/cost of we shrink wrap was not thorough explained and were not observing a lot of their packing as our home was quite large. Other movers were charging less than $25.00 per roll for the same shrink wrap

7. By 8 p.m. they presented us with a bill of over $10,000, which was a much higher cost for the job than I expected.

8. The explanation for this was not presented on the final invoice. When we questioned the cost, the movers, and the management /owner of the business contacted by phone, gave us an explanation that did not make sense, nor was it what I thought we agreed to hire them. However, we decided to pay $4000.00, understanding that we would discuss the total bill further and discuss a payment plan after the job had been completed. We made it noticeably clear that we were not happy with the service and still had a lot of questions regarding the charges. Notwithstanding, the job had not been completed because all the agreed movers had not shown up on time, nor did they end up packing and moving all our items. They decided that they would return on July 1st to complete the job.

9. We received the invoice of the charges and how they could charge such an exorbitant amount which went from $2500.00 to $11,828.00.

10. We repeatedly asked for a detailed invoice there were still no explanations even though we constantly asked to explain why we were being charged for a local move the following: - mileages; maintenance of the truck, intrastate fuel and mileage, original destination fee, charges for bulky items (of which we had very few. The men ended up leaving several of the bulky items in the home and took delight to helping themselves to our food and drinks and some clothing items which we were giving away.

11. After several heated discussions, we agreed to pay up to $6,025.00. As a customer, we were requesting a full explanation of the charges broken down in written detail before we pay any additional amount.

12. They had agreed to offer us two months rent-free for storage of our goods and are now demanding that we pay the entire remaining balance of $5,103.50 plus an additional storage fee of $2,066.00 ($7,196.00)

13. We do not feel we are fairly treated, and they are grossly overcharging us for services beyond what I thought we had agreed.

14. We do not have this kind of money.

15. They still have all our furniture and personal items and have threatened to auction our things if we do not pay the $7,196.00 by August 31st

16. However on August 31st I entered into an verbal agreement with them that we would pay a reduced price of $3500.00 with the understanding that they will no longer be responsible to deliver and unload our furniture and personal items. Out of ignorance I believe they were true to their word and the verbal agreement and made three payments via zelle of $1500 (9/1), $1500( 9/4 and $500(9/9/22). Now they are refusing to give us the address of our furniture and personal items and demanding we pay an additional $2000.00 for the unloading of our furniture and personal items

17. We desperately need legal assistance, help, and advice on managing this dilemma as we feel we are being taken advantage of and question their business practices. DO we have a case?! How can we get out items
