Business startup investment
I have started and operated three other businesses without a franchise or licensee assistance. Those start ups took several years to profit. I bought into the ABS system in order to accelerate the start up of the business. American Business Systems (Keller, TX) claimed their live training, webinars, videos, and their phone and email assistance would help me with everything I needed to get started. Not true. All of their teaching is simply a rehash of the 5 day training. They promised a return on my investment within 12 months. They ensured their goal was to help me get my first client within 90 days. Though they did not reach to me to inquire the status of my progress. They stressed it was not necessary to be a billing coder but those in this business will caution you that if you may a mistake with the doctor's billing, you could and will be liable and face a huge financial and punitive penalty.
Though after investing in ABS, they claimed that there are 1500 offices operating around the country will be glad to offer assistance to new Licensees. They refused to prove they have 1500 offices activate in business after I agreed to step forward. At the Live Training, ABS said I could contact these other Licensees, but after I invested ABS refused to grant me the contact information of these Licensees claiming they are my competitors.
They did not provide me a professionally designed website per their contract. Their template website does not meet the Google Webmaster Guidelines. I have six web designers who have verified this claim.
Before I invested in ABS, the sales rep contacted me twice weekly for close to six months. After I gave them $27K, I received no phone call from the President, their Support team, or a mentor that I was promised by the Sales Rep. Please do not invest your money with a Company that will not make the effort to contact you after you pay them.
business investment caution
I am submitting this Complaint because I want to caution investors who might be considering American Business Systems, Keller, TX. I am not seeking a refund. I simply want to advise those now and in the future to invest your dollars somewhere else.
I found ABS on a franchise opportunity site. Be careful! ABS admits that they are a Licensee type operation but they promote services, resources and support at the price of a Franchise concept. Because ABS declares a Licensee operation but advertises on a Franchise opportunity website could be considered false and misleading presentation.
ABS Contract insist that an investor come to Texas for a five day exploratory presentation of their product, while none of their competitors require this in person presence. Why? I ask myself now: why is ABS unable to convey their business offering like their competitors? Why do they require additional expense of an investor to see their program? ABS begins with a lie (unbeknownst to attendees who know nothing of medical billing) that most doctors are leaving thirty-percent of un-reimbursed claims on the table. That may have been true 10 years ago but due to sophisticated computer technology used today, according to Jordan *, NextGen Software - ABS tech partner, Jordan * says the average percentage for doctors not able to retrieve reimbursed claims is 3-5%. Now anyone can do a drill down online Google research to discover this number also. At the time, this for me was the big selling point. I trusted them, but in result I have been cheated. ABS used deceptive numbers to entice investors to become Licensees.in their advertising, ABS claims they will help an investor get their first client in ninety days, while none of their competitors make this suggestion, promise, or declaration. This claim is reinforced verbally in person which reinforces their deception. Thus the reason they demand in the Contract to come in person. Though, this declaration ABS makes about helping Licensees get their first client in 90 days is more than a suggestion according to definition of declaration under Texas Deceptive Trade Practice Act. This declaration makes ABS liable for deceptive trade practice according to FTC ACT, section 5, page 8-9. While ABS makes these mentioned claims and their competitors do not, ABS in addition with genuine impression manipulates the Investors in this 5 day training to see their Agency different from their competitors. This presentation by ABS could be a deceptive trade practice, because a Trade practice is NOT deceptive if it is an opinion or suggestion but because ABS goes further in claiming to offer Lifetime Support then ABS is not merely making a suggestion or opinion of their claims. According to the Texas Deceptive Trade Practice Act, they are stressing to the Prospective Licensee that it is more than a suggestion. I requested ABS to present this new Licensee the names and phone numbers of the current active one thousand five hundred Licensees. ABS is required by the Federal Regulations (www.ecfr.io) Title 16. Chapter 1, Subchapter D, Part 437.3, (a), (5) References, (i). At the five day Training, ABS promised I could contact the one thousand five hundred Licensees, but later when I contacted Support after I agreed to step forward, they refused claiming other Licensees are my competitors. This was not conveyed in the 5 day presentation which is deception. The presenter tells attendees you can contact the current Licensees in order to sway you to not ask for your refund at the end of training. Then when this new Licensee stands on the other side of the five Day Training, ABS Support tells me that I can't talk to these other Licensees. This is deception. I challenge ABS that they in fact have one thousand five hundred successful current active Licensees. They cannot prove it. If you cannot prove it, you cannot say it! If ABS were mandated by a Judge to present the names of the one thousand five hundred Licensees, ABS could not.
ABS Support told me to join the internal LinkedIn Licensee support group to contact other ABS Licensees. I did. I reached out to seventeen of the only twenty-one listed on the Support Group and I received correspondence from thirteen of the twenty-one who were dissatisfied or disappointed with ABS. They also mentioned other attendees from their five day training who were frustrated by ABS. The other eight Licensees were either staff or other Licensees who did not respond or reply to my request to visit. If there are one thousand five hundred Licensees then why is there only twenty-one listed on the Support Group? Why are thirteen of the twenty-one dissatisfied? I urge new prospective Investors to approach with caution as ABS declares they will make you successful like their one thousand five hundred Licensees. Another deceptive way is that ABS promotes Lifetime Support, according to the ABS contract 6.04, in their advertisement, and at the five day training. But ABS Support beyond the five day presentation is a rehash of the five day Training through their online tools. Email support is only if you email them to ask questions. There is no proactive follow up by ABS. I had Jason, sales rep., contact me twice a week for nearly six months before I went to the five day presentation, but after I paid ABS twenty-seven thousand dollars, no ABS person called me ever! There is no additional proprietary resources/ information even though they stress they have been training new Licensees for twenty-five years. Be careful in what they say they promise; the proof is in their actions! Make them prove their actions.
ABS promises to help develop a personalized marketing strategy (see page on their website). They talk about personality types in their five day training but this is NOT a personalized marketing strategy. This could be considered deceptive. I just paid ABS a large sum of money and they have not nor did they call me to inquire my progress. This is poor customer service and a lack of interest in their constituents, though they say they desire their Licensees to be successful so the Licensee gains clients and uses the NextGen software (ABS partner). I share an email from a peer Licensee that she states that she also did not receive a call from ABS. My sales Rep, Jason * said once I attend the Training, then I will be assigned to another individual to help me get started. Jason said he would not be following me after the training. ABS deceptively manipulates by playing on the emotions of the attendees at the five day training. So, I saw a company who declared a ROI in twelve months, help get a first client in ninety days, prescribe a personalized marketing strategy, tells attendees that Doctors are leaving thirty-percent revenue on the table, promise to offer a professional website that meets Google Webmaster Guidelines, declare their can present scripts to help you speak to doctors, offer Lifetime Support with live business coach and online tools beyond the 5 day training, and contact with other Licensees. There are no other competitors who offer all these benefits. But the catch is that in order to gain all these benefits that no other competitor offers, the prospective Investor must attend the 5 day in person presentation and willing to step forward beyond to gain access to these benefits in order to accelerate the launch with expert guidance to build a medical business in a short period of time. So either this an offer to good to be true or ABS is superior to its competitors? At the time I trusted the latter. As I conducted further research of its competitors, E-Clinical Works, Athena, or others, ABS was an offer to good to be true! They have nothing! So that is why ABS mandates prospective Investors to come to their Live Training so the Presenter can promise features/ benefits that are not listed in the ABS Contract. ABS cannot present their business offering like their competitors; they must require Investors to attend Live Training to manipulate the Investor to buy.in result, I paid $30 thousand for a five Day Exploratory presentation. I assure you the training is not worth six-thousand a day for the five days! It is over - priced!
Patrick *, owner of ABS, wrote a Book to Licensees encouraging readers to pursue his path and become a business owner experiencing personal financial freedom. To the contrary, Patrick *, according to Tarrant County Tax Records, has multiple million dollars of Tax Liens. The refund he offers to Attendees at the five Day presentation for looking simply becomes Tax Liens. So he maintains access to these funds but it is the Tax payers who pay in the end. His declaration in his book about how he has achieved financial freedom and how he inspires Licensees to become financially free is a deception and is morally wrong! Do not trust Patrick to show you how to experience financial freedom through your own business
support
I purchase a license a few years ago around $25, 000 to use ABS medical billing software and for their support in starting our medical billing company.
We worked for over a year trying to build our medical billing business. We did not have luck selling ANY services.
ABS Help Desk was useless - after a few calls ABS started acting annoyed that we had questions.
ABS recommended methods i.e. SendOutCards - Dr. Vicki Rackner - Foam Squeeze Stress Balls - 40lbs of Junk fake Marketing material
all are products they recommend to new licensees - but i'm sure they recommend these items because they are getting a kick back from these worthless services - i believe YOU are the person being worked over by ABS.
They made my investment worthless.
Doctors are almost impossible to convince that what your selling isn't going to harm their practice - and i came to realize that not all Medical Markets respond the same to this type of service - in our state there are a lot less small independent doctor clinics that are open to change their Billing Serviced over to an unknown company.
IMO - Look elsewhere - money NOT well spent - Hard Lesson Learned...

medical billing business license
I was in it with this company. I was a Military man getting into civilian life. I got bamboozled! I did everything, then realized I had to tell (almost) lies to medical practice owners (mostly Doctors) to try and get business.
After 2 plus years of not getting solid business, I also realized I could spend that $20, 000.00 I gave them to do something worthwhile and that would yield income. I wondered later why I needed to pay them so much for a License to do business as a Medical Biller. No one potential client ever cared about this so called license. It was a worthless piece of paper I now realize.
It's a lot of "Ra Ra" but you end up giving away your money.
Stay away! Save your money!
Hey there,
I do thank you for the information that you provided from the company. I was interested in purchasing the license so that I can get somewhat of a jumpstart, but your experience told me to look elsewhere. But if you have a moment, I would like to ask you a question. I'm just starting my entrepreneur path and know next to nothing so-far. What are some pointers that you can give me on what to do and what not to do regarding this path of entrepreneur?
They made my investment worthless
I invested $ 19, 900.00 last year to purchase a license to use ABS medical billing software and for their support in helping build the business. I worked for about 8 months trying to build a medical billing business. I did not have luck selling any services. ABS promised to set me 5 appointments so I could get face to face with some doctors but the...
