This school makes millions off of false advertisement and unknowledgeable staffs (about aviation).

First, I will start off with the false advertisement. The school offers job and living placement-false! The school doesn't have any kind of job network or placement that you and I can't find from craigslist.com or on your own. Ridiculous! (Visit the school yourself and look at the job boards...killing trees for nothing.) Also, the school does not work with your daily life or schedule. As far as living placement, just pick up a copy of Apartment Guide from your nearest shopping or metro. Sad to say but this school really does suck, when it comes to honesty and guidelines, too.

Secondly, let's just skip all the negatives because the list is just too long to write about. It would take days and nights. If I were to do the math and balance the goods and bads...the bads would over rule.

Then, it's the teachers and staff members. The teachers are A&P mechanics whom will not make it out in the field for long. They are inexperience and lack teaching experience. How can someone teach if all they do is change tires their whole 10 years as an A&P mechanic out in the field. Obviously, they were the ones that these great airlines didn't really want to begin with. (And you can see it!) Everyone needs a job and "as long as you hold an A&P license Buddy, you got yourself a job! Hired! Congratulations! Now take these books as I show the path to a career as an A&P instructor, you will love it...5 days a week, either days or nights off, do your regular deeds during the time off, have a beer, and enjoy your weekend! Sign this application and you are on your way. Last but not least, you must teach the curiculum my way or hit the highway...is that okay with you, Buddy? I promise you a well-worth it career but you must promise to be on your knees and down with me, as you please. (Wink.) Thanks, we will see you next Monday morning so I can show more on what's expected of me...have a nice day!" This is the kind of direction one must give to put one's life in one's hand. Incredible! Staffs..wow momma! Let's pick the most sexually appealing women who can sell a can of beans to some meat heads or who can give illusions like a stripper. Yeah, paint a pretty picture for me as an A&P mechanic making $60K a year. Okay, okay, I'm not going to get on that too much because it's just a job for them-lie! "Uh-hmm, Ma'am/Sir, what part of that goes on an airplane?" Replies, " Looks like it goes on the wings. The teachers and staff here are great and this is a really good school, it's even FAA Certified." Well, how come I didn't see it listed on the FAA website for A&P school?" Enough said. They'll reel you in and spit you out quick, along with a nice price tag that you must pay or else you can never own your own home or car. Your financial relationship becomes ruin and Sallie Mae or Freddie Mae will never approve a loan.

Overall, look at other schools for your A&P license. It shouldn't cost you no more $40K like this particular school. How about Spartan or Embry-Riddle? Just a thought. I didn't get nothing good out of this school but self study discipline. Don't let me be the judge of it-try it out if you dare! Don't say I didn't warn you!

There are too many A & P mechanics on lay off. It is very hard to get a job in this field. The airlines are reducing their mechanic count and outsourcing the work to foreign countries.

(i quit, was not fired)

Just wanted to let you know i worked there for almost a year. DO NOT attend the school. I am glad i found another job and was able to leave. They are a scam.THEY ARE TOOOO EXPENSIVE. Just call and ask and most if not all WILL dodge that question. When you call them they are reading from a script, all the calls are recorded (they dont tell you that) and its a very high pressured sales. They have benchmarks and sales goals admission reps have to meet. that is not a bad thing if you like sales, but when the deadine is coming they will try to enroll anyone and everyone. they tell you the starting pay is 14 to 18 an hour. GO O DAIRY Queen. there you can make 14 and not have between $30, 000 and $50, 000 in student loans to pay for. Its just like a car note when paying back the student loans. there IS AN INTEREST RATE.. ASK ABOUT IT.. Imagine getting a $40, 000 student loan and at 19% interest rate.. you do the math. I would say 8 out of 10 people who want to go to aviation institute of maintenance have some type of criminal background. 6 out of those 10 have some type of felony OR FELONIES.
We use to get calls from convicted felons all the time (some who spent 10+ years in jail) wanting to attend AIM. Sure, attend the school.. Now... try to get a job AFTER graduating.

In closing, please do not go to this school. IT IS A SCAM. I know.. I was forced to work in the admissions Department for almost a year. I had to sell and not care about what is the truth and what is not..

DO NOT ATTEND AVIATION INSTITUTE OF MAINTENANCE (in any state)

lol, you were "forced" to work in the admissions department. Tht's funny! If you hated it so much, why didn't you go find a better job? Oh wait, you didn't hack it, did you...got fired..oh well...at least you weren't "forced" to work there and the AIM staff and students weren't forced to deal with your negativity!

I understand the guy above. You Have to pay bills. He is just trying to warn all people in the future. DO NOT GO THERE. It is a joke. It is a SCAM. All they will do is take as much money from you as they can and sick you in a school that sucks. Sure.. Get student loans! Pay that Interest rate. The National Division is a high pressured sales position. They will do whatever they can to meet their goals. They Lie to the students. Please don't go.. It is not really a scam but a rip off. Also... i have seen first hand what they do with the paper work (Social Security cards, Copies of Birth Certs, school records.. and more personal information) of students that apply and end up not going. Right in a trash can. No shredding, no proper disposal. BEWARE!

My Experience At "AIM" Manassas

Hey, I've been to this school and thought I'd let people kno about my short stay at this campus, class experience, my interactions with staff and campus life or housing life. First of all I'd like to let y'all kno that I traveled about 3000 miles to attend this school. My choice but for better purposes! I got the fancy talk about this school from one and many of it's representatives, enrolled thought I'd give it a try. Was accepted and didn't kno it was so easy to get a loan with no job but other than that I attended the school on Sept 27, 2010 . Stayed with collegiate housing and was housed about 1.6 miles away from the school having to walk in low 30 degree weather every morning at 6 up to Nov. 10 . 4 guys, one apartment, 2 rooms, 1 1/2 baths, light rent n water covered by financial aid 600 a man which is $ 2400 for some cheesy apartments with no washing machines unlike the other apartments which is basically across the street from the school. I did enjoy my time there and the friends I met and the knowledge I gained while reading on my own ( not in class ). Basically a great experience in my life but unfortunately I was terminated ( kicked out). Remember, this is my experience and not everyones own is the same so I'm not trying to knock you off your course as to your experience might be different n better. If your choice is to go there go for it, put your mind to it ! For your better understading and knowledge on the matters that transpired before my termination I'm goin to paste 2 long letters that I wrote to the executive director on what happened. So have patience and read!
This first letter is my appeal of termination with a series of occasions that transpired days before my termination and leading to my termination. Enjoy!

Dear, Mr. Keith Zobel

Good day !  This letter to you is in regard to my termination at the AIM campus in Manassas, Va.  Also my apologizes to the staff with the way I conducted myself.  There are a series of events that transpired before my termination that got my anger to the level it was at on the day of my termination.
On 11/10/2010  I was approached and talk to with lack of tact, and or respect and dealt with, no patience and treated as though I was an elementary student.  Simply because I was resting myself on a chair in a classroom.  Because of that, the effects in my actions were an outburst of rage and obscene, vulgar language toward the teacher and director whom took out of hand the simplicity of the situation.
I say that because of the fact that when I asked Mr. Lowell if he'd rather have me sleeping while him teaching or me sleeping on my own time, he then turned around and immediately went to the directors office and called upon me to go to her. I neglected !  We should have been able to solve that minor problem between each other, as adults!
To clear myself on the question if I was sleeping or not, I simply was resting my head on a chair during my time ( lunch time ).  While Mr. Lowell was at the directors office, I overheard her ( the director ) say to someone that she already called the cops.  Mind, I had not yet acted in an inappropriate manner just simply neglected to go to the office.  Let me lead you astray for a moment,  because this info might have cause to why the director was so quick to call the cops on me!
On the 11/8/2010, which was the Monday prior to my termination on the Wednesday 11/10/2010.  I was sent home for the day because I was explaining to a student/potential witness about a mishap or mistake that occurred with the amounts of hrs I was said to have missed. Which I will include in another article to you being of the length.  So as I am explaining to the student, the teacher of which the mistake may have occurred with was watching me and I looked back at him. He ( Mr. James) asked me a question and I returned an answer with a simple nod of the head, he walked out of the class  and came back.  He told me to go out so I did !  We tried to communicate but our ends didn't meet.
I got a little hyped and frustrated and went to the directors office. While in Dr. Annie's office I noticed my level of energy and so did she and another teacher ( Mr. Scott). I stepped out her office to calm myself down and came back in to listen to what she had to say to me.  She told me she has to send me home for the day because of my actions ( my high energy level ). I think I have digressed far enough off the purpose for your better understanding and knowledge on the situation.
My preceding actions on the Monday may have been Dr. Annie's reason(s) to call the cops for whatever reasons such as precaution, security etc..  What led to my actions was the way the entire situation was handled !  After I heard Dr. Annie say she already called the cops, she came out her office and she and Mr. Lowell went to the back door.  I also heard Dr. Annie say to someone,  let's lock this door I don't want him leaving thru this door.  That sent my mind asking questions !  Should I really be treated like this ?  Especially since it stemmed from me laying my head down on a chair during lunch time !  To myself I thought that was prejudice and bias and un-called for.  Then came the misconduct.
I was bemused by their actions and wasn't up to tolerate that kind of treatment anymore!  I gave them my opinions freely (cursed at them ) .  That is how the issue was handled and in result those were my actions.
There are always two sides to every story, consider this my version of the situation and my appeal of termination.  We all make mistakes and we have to learn and grow by them.  I do know that I would enjoy continuing my knowledge in the aviation industry at any other AIM campus.  I ask that you take into consideration the events that led to my termination as I feel in my opinion, that my student rights were violated.
I did misconduct myself and that is the mistake that I have to live with and learn from.  As people ( human beings ) we all have emotions and feelings, I got tired of how all my issues with the school was being handled and acted out on how I felt.  I do apologize and thank you for listening !

My opinion on the teachers there, I feel no one is dumb just some lack that teaching ability. But it's sad to kno that your paying all this money to basically be treated as if your in a daycare n not learning anything. If you'd like to continue reading I'll paste the 2nd letter I wrote. Now this letter is questioning how I failed a module or course / class due to my attendance when I attended class everyday from the day I started the school and despite the long cold morning walks I also was never was late to class ! Letter #2 Enjoy!

    Dear, Mr. Keith Zobel

Good day!  I'm a former student of the AIM campus in Manassas, Va.  My letter to you is in regard to a situation that has occurred with my attendance that has caused me to fail the module, weight and balance.  I have tried settling the situation and I have gotten nowhere but terminated from school !  Now that I am banned from the campus there are other measures that have to be taken in order to settle the situation.
I'm going to try my best to explain the entire situation for your better understanding and knowledge.  First I'd like for you to understand that I wouldn't be going thru all of this if I didn't want to continue in this career path at another AIM campus.
On 10/26/2010, in my opinion our teacher ( Mr. James) was a bit frustrated and showed frustration, I guess because we were a little behind on the agenda.  So he gave us three quizzes, 30 questions, ten on each within an hour or less of lunchtime. (Note: Mr. James leaves work during lunch and we get another teacher for the remaining 2 hours).  Lunch came and Mr. James was asking for the assignments.  Ok I wasn't finish and didn't want to turn in any blank assignments, so I went to lunch.
When I came back from lunch Mr. John which is the teacher that comes in for the last 2 hours.  He told me that I didn't turn in my assignments and that I have to turn them in to him. I explained to him that I wasn't finish yet and he gave me a chance to finish up, so I did !
The next day ( 10/27/2010 ) Mr. James starts talking about cheating!  My opinion, he was directing  it to me, so to myself I started smiling and laughing.  He then watched me and asked me if I think this is funny? My response was yes !  He then said so you think it's funny that you cheated on the quizzes ?  Now he's accusing me of cheating!  Because he didn't see me complete it and possibly I got good grades on them I'm being accused? I defended myself upon such accusations.  I asked him if he can prove that ?  He answered let's see what the school has to say about cheating !
Because there are always two sides to each story, I got up and told him I'm coming with him to hear what he has to say against me.  As I got up and started walking, he shouted,  go back to your seat, you stay in here!  As I got closer he took a step forward and his anger rose, so I told him to touch me !  A classmate talked to me and I took my seat.
He went out and came back in, he dismissed me and told me to go see the director. I did !  Dr. Annie talked to me and told me to apologize for my behavior and go back to class.  In all reality I missed one hour on that day, from one break to the next.  I apologized to Mr. James and he accepted me back in class.  I stayed there throughout the entire day and tried to complete my project ( G-12 ).
On that day I was said to have been missing five hours from school which is impossible due to all my witnesses.  I figured one of my teachers made a simple mistake!  I asked Mr. James if he could take a look at it, he told me he didn't write it down that it was Mr. John.  ( Note: Our class had now moved on to basic electricity and Mr. John was no longer our other instructor.  He was only teaching night classes ).  While I was inquiring to Mr. James about my time missed, he commented and  said and I quote " I don't see why you're harassing me about this when you have so much days to make it up".  I ignored the fact that he said that and I took my seat !
Couple days after that incident I went to the school during night classes to meet with Mr. John.  We talked about the incident and he said that it's impossible because I was there for the last two hours with him.  In which,  even if I had missed class the entire morning I would only be missing 4 hours.  It just doesn't add up!  Mr. John then told me that he would leave a note in Mr. James box saying to correct the mistake.  Mr. James never did !  In fact he told me Mr. John told him an entirely different statement.
I never read the note so I can't say what transpired.  I also never made up the time because I was trying to resolve the problem of me having to do unnecessary hours.  On the 11/08/2010 I asked Mr. James how are we going to resolve my situation with the hours ?  He replied that he can't do anything about it that Mr. John said I wasn't there!  So I asked him if I should prepare to fight this in court meaning if we should go to the director and resolve this ?  His response was go ahead it's his word against mines.  I took my seat and discussed the situation to a classmate/ potential witness.
That is when Mr. James asked me if I had a problem with him ?  I nodded in response to the question saying yes!   He walked out the classroom and came back in a short while after.  Told me to get out and I did !   I was puzzled at the fact!  I was being kicked out of class for answering a question that the teacher asked me!  We tried discussing the problem but the point of why I was being kicked out  never came up and I ended up in Dr. Annie's office.  My energy levels were high in result to the puzzling fact of me answering a question that the teacher asked me!  I guess Dr. Annie didn't like my energy levels and in result I was sent home for the day.
It has been a month and 2 weeks since I've been in school.  I've been earning good grades during courses but have failed a module due to the mistake in my attendance.  It would be an honor if we can get my situations handled.  I do apologize for my actions toward the staff but I'm a man that believes in respect, and respect earns respect. Thank u for listening !
Thanks for reading !

I forgot to mention that the housing collegiate representative never sent me a letter of eviction or notice stating by when I would have to be out the apartment! Instead he got personal and unprofessional and found his way to the apartment, early morning literally knocking the door down. When my roommate answered, he let himself in and found his way in my bedroom while I was sleeping. He saw me Anne said and I quote " dud, dude (trying to get my attention, not knowing I was up ) he approached and said u don't belong in here ! Demanded his keys to the house and and told me he'll be charging me for the week ! I was bemused because he never sent me a letter of eviction and disrespected from the fact of his attitude in approaching that entire situation and how he came up in the apartment . [censored]z b happening out here !

To most of you whiners, AIM and schools like it are Part 147 schools and each school reserves the right to accept/deny any credits for A&P work anywhere. Sorry it didn't work out for you but I've noticed that the problems revolve around: 1. Not coming to class, 2. Doing the work. This isn't high school where the staffs don't teach the two situations mentioned above for fear of hurting your self esteem. Guys, self esteem comes from accomplishment and not being present. Grow up and stop acting like elementary kids who don't get a cookie.

This school has its issues just like any other school. But, the biggest issue is the trash for students they let in. (Which is probably most of the comments on this page.) You get out what you put in it, and if you don't love this field your not going to make it. I graduated from AIM Manassas march of 2012 and got my A&P in may 2012. In October 2012 I got my first job at Dulles airport making 50k/year, quit in may 2013 due to a job offer for 80k/year. So if all of you whiners would grow up and get off you mothers tit you may just accomplish something one day.

I just stumbled upon this web site when trying to do research on this school. I have yet to read a valid reason why one should not attend here. Just look at the type of students that this school took money from. It is an excellent reason why there should be NO FEDERALLY subsidized student loans. ###s who clearly couldn't learn the simplest trade end up wasting $50, 000 of my (taxpayers) money as they'll never pay up.

This school is major fraud. My brother is enrolled in this school and he has been going there for about a month. He payed his tuition and payed A Lot of money for his books. He studies really hard and has made 90s and 80s on all of his exam. Today he called us saying that they kicked him out of that school. And apparently their reason for it is that the degree he had before attending this institute was not the right one or something like that. This is the first time I have ever heard of such things. I mean why accept him if you're eventually going to kick him out? It makes no sense whatsoever. So currently we're failing a lawsuit.

I went to this school about eight years ago, and am still haunted by the student debt they nailed me with. I too would like to get them in a class action lawsuit. I first hand saw dozens of students that it was very obvious they would not be able to obtain a A&P license. the school even claims to do a background check. How this school get around this, is that they claim "well you can become a mechanic for NASCAR." This school is completely bogus and they are only after your money. even a couple of the professors themselves admitted to me that the school is overpriced. About the professors, I did find them to be very knowledgeable in the field at my location, they actually were all good people. The main thing that I would like to warn people about is that they incise you to attend this school even if they know you cannot or more than likely will not finish this program, and that people if you do the research there are many schools that are way cheaper than this one that can provide the same certificate. One more thing they will make it sound like you will make all this good money being a mechanic, when the truth is you can but it takes many years to get to that point.
