I signed up for Betfair in early 2023 and deposited $35 to begin betting. Over the course of the year, I ended up losing close to $1,000. After taking a 6-month break from January 2024 to June 2024 to recover from gambling issues, I returned to Betfair and resumed activity with restrictions on poker and casino games. I deposited additional funds and even managed to recover some of my losses.
However, when I attempted to withdraw $277 from my account, I was told my account had been restricted and I would not be allowed to access my funds. Despite multiple attempts to contact support, Betfair has refused to provide any valid explanation for the restriction or the refusal to release my funds. Their responses have been vague and generic, saying things like: "Unfortunately, we would not have any further information regarding the reason for the closure."
To make matters worse, when I threatened legal action, the support team offered me $20 in compensation, which feels like an attempt to silence my complaint. If they had a valid reason to close my account, why would they offer compensation at all?
At one point, a support agent even admitted that they knew my situation was wrong and said, "I really wish I could do more for you, but unfortunately my hands are tied." This suggests that Betfair is avoiding resolving legitimate issues, and their support team is powerless to help.
Betfair's refusal to release my funds, combined with the lack of transparency and poor customer service, has left me feeling frustrated and cheated. After reading many similar complaints, it seems that Betfair may have a pattern of denying access to funds after players have won or deposited significant amounts. This is unacceptable, and I strongly advise others to avoid using Betfair.
I hope this complaint raises awareness of Betfair’s unethical practices and encourages them to address the widespread issues they have with withholding funds from users and providing poor customer service.
Recommendation: stay away from betfair.
