I just don't get some of the comments by posters here.
If you wondered for a moment whether you had won a lottery prize, ask yourself three questions:
- Did I enter this lottery?
- Did I give them my email address when I entered?
- Does my ticket number match the number they quote?

I suspect that very few people could answer 'yes' to the first question, let alone all three.

ATTN: Aldreb E,

Good day to you. I want to inform you that your verification details has been processed. I must say that you should consider yourself extremely lucky to have emerged as one of our lucky winners in the UK National Lottery Online Sweepstakes International Program.

As you already know, all participants for the online version were selected randomly from the World Wide Web through a computer draw system and extracted from over 125,000 unions, associations and corporate bodies that are listed online and each email address was attached to a ticket number. Your email address (heekem@hotmail.com) attached to ticket number: [protected] with Serial number: 5388/02 was selected which automatically makes you one of our lucky winners.

Your funds has been approved for release and we will begin the process of remittance of your prize money to you immediately you select a mode of payment from the options stipulated below:

1. We can have your winnings wired into your private bank account from our official participating bank.
2. Courier options, we can make arrangements for you to receive your winning cheque, certificate and other vital documents through a secured and efficient courier service.

NOTE: ALL ACCRUING CHARGES ARE DIRECTLY BEARABLE BY THE WINNER AND CANNOT BE DEDUCTED FROM YOUR WINNINGS BECAUSE YOUR CHEQUE IS PROTECTED BY A HARDCOVER INSURANCE POLICY WHICH MAKES IT IMPOSSIBLE FOR ANYONE TO MAKE ANY DEDUCTION OF WHATSOEVER BEFORE IT IS REMITTED TO YOU. YOU MUST UPDATE US WITH YOUR CORRESPONDENCE WITH THE COURIER COMPANY OR THE BANK BEFORE AND AFTER COMPLIANCE.

Below is a brief explanation of the options and its accruing charges:
To have your winnings wired into your personal bank account, I would like to make clear to you that your cheque will be sent to our affiliate bank for transfer into your personal bank account. However, you will be requested to activate or open an account with them so that your cheque can clear into it for the transfer of your winning prize into your account in your country. The minimum amount that is required by the bank to open an account for non UK residents is not a fee of any sort as it will be added to your winnings when the transfer is been made since it is just an initial account opening balance. As soon as you activate your account with them, your pin number and your account number will be given to you and you will start the transfer of your winnings immediately. Note that this amount has to be provided by you to the bank through any method they deem fit before they can activate the account.

Regarding courier delivery, our affiliate courier company which is Greyhound Express Couriers is the only courier company registered with the UK National Lottery thus they are incharge of all delivery of parcel for winniners of the UK National Lottery.
It is important to note that services rendered by this courier company are to be paid for by you and not the Lottery Board. Greyhound Express Couriers does operate on Pay before delivery (P.B.D) service to winners of the UK National Lottery thus they shall not commence delivery until they are paid.

You are advised to get back to us as soon as possible regarding what option you have chosen because the next edition of this draw comes up soon.
Sincerely yours,
Mr. Glen Michael.

With news of winning ticket number 6/10/11/19/22/46/40 payout of L850, 000. Delivery agent is international courier system phone [protected].(James Walker) customer service. asking for delivery charges of $1, 273.46 usd for 24 hr delivery. I feel strict guidelines should be imposed by internet companies for opening this type of fraud and if not monitored and controlled, the internet companies should be held liable for allowing their networks to be used to defraud the public. I do believe in free interprise, but this does not fit into the catagory of free interprise.
Thanks for your interest and assistance. Ruth Perrigan

At 1st I thought this may be ok because I had visited Ireland approx 2yrs ago. But I did not enter any Lottery. They were asking for my Name, telephone, and Nationality. I thought that wasn't too harmless. However, before responding I googled and found the webiste saying that the that the Irish Lottery does not e-mail per URL: http://www.consumerfraudreporting.org/IrishLotteryScamsSamples3.php

Based on this information, I did not respond. Rather, I saw your website and felt the need to respond. Please respond.

I am including a copy of the e-mail I received below. If this is truely a scam, maybe this can help prevent recurrence.

Hi,
The creator of the universe put a "patch" on to the humans and the function was to perpetually optimize greed levels in the system. Like in most other cases, some have escaped the patch. But, that was not intentional and believe me, it was a process error (cannot be debugged because we do not have access to his server).
Fundamentally, e-mails from unknown characters ought to be dispatched straight to the trash. Let someone verify the address or phone numbers, then you will be convinced. For fun sake, I once replied to one of these e-mails stating that my attorney in London will handle all work relating to collecting the payment. Need I add that I did not receive any reply.

If you have a few hundred dollars to throw away, then venture to reply this kind of mail. Even that can be used for better purposes.

I wish that they can do something amount these guys. I have lost my job and have been unemployed since 2004. I lost my house, my vehicle and still cannot get any employment as I am WHITE in SA. This is no joke and I think that there should be some form of administration and these administrators of hotmail accounts can delete these type of messages I am sure there is a way of writing some or other program to automatically block this- maybe this is a good idea to get those who battle to get employed - a fixed position with a salary attached that gets our hopes up again. The people in this world is EVIL!

THIS IS HOW IS WORKS!

You receive an unsolicited email, which states that you have won a major prize in an international lottery. Supposedly, your email address was collected online and attached to a random number that was subsequently entered in a draw for the lottery. In order to claim your prize, you are instructed to contact the official "agent" in charge of your case. You are also advised to keep the win confidential for "security reasons". This part of the scam is basically a random phishing expedition. If you respond in any way to the email, the scammers will send further messages or even contact you by phone in an attempt to draw you deeper into the scam.

You may be asked to provide banking details, a large amount of personal information, and copies of your driver's licence and passport. Ostensibly, these requests are to prove your identity and facilitate the transfer of your winnings. However, if you comply with these requests, the scammers will have enough information to steal your identity.

Sooner or later, the scammers will request some sort of advance fee supposedly to cover administration, legal or delivery costs. At its core, this scam is just a reworking of the Nigerian loan fraud, in which scammers also eventually ask for upfront fees to facilitate the "deal". Like Nigerian scams, victims who do actually pay the requested fees will probably find that they receive continuing payment demands to cover "unexpected expenses". The requests for money will go on until the victim realizes what is happening or has no further money to send.

In some cases, the scammers give victims the option of opening an account at a particular bank as an alternative to paying upfront fees. However, this "bank" which is completely bogus, will insist on an initial deposit of $3000 as a requirement for opening the account. The fake bank will have a legitimate looking website to reinforce the scam. In other cases, the victim is given the option of travelling to an overseas destination and paying a cash fee to facilitate the release of the funds. However, any "winnings" released to the victim will be counterfeit and therefore worthless.

The details of the lottery scams vary regularly with regard to the name of the lottery itself, the country of origin, the sponsoring organization, the amount of the "prize" and other particulars. The scammers try to add a patina of legitimacy to their claims by mentioning real financial institutions, government departments or well-known companies. They may also provide links to slick looking, but fraudulent websites that are designed to back up information included in the scam emails. If the scammers are successful in establishing a dialogue with a potential victim, they may provide "proof" such as a scanned image of a supposed government official's ID and even photographs of the "winnings" in cash.
