I am a medical assistant at Centura Orthopedic and Spine in Castle Rock, Colorado.  A receptionist in my medical office tested positive for COVID-19. The manager informed me of this information and told me to contact occupational health for further information. I contacted occupational health and they didn't provide me with any information on the timeline of the COVID case. I told them that I didn't have close contact with the COVID-19 positive employee but told them that due to the lack of information on the timeline or my exposure to other employees who were in contact with the COVID positive person that I would like to have a COVID rapid test at the hospital. They denied my request because they said I wasn't in close contact to the COVID positive employee despite my concern about other employees around me. I feel very uncomfortable that they provided me with no information and denied my request for a rapid COVID test that I requested. It should be hospital policy that when one employee in an office tests positive for COVID, the entire staff of the office should receive a rapid COVID test. This situation puts myself as well as patients as risk and makes me feel unsafe at work. I am very bothered by the fact that they denied my rapid test request when I specifically told them I would feel better at work if I was able to receive one. When I told my manager, Daniel Gustek, about my concerns, he was very condescending and didn't take my complaint seriously. I told him I was uncomfortable with the fact that the hospital didn't let me receive a test and he said, "Everyone has been exposed to COVID at some point, why are you so stressed?". He thought I was being ridiculous for feeling uncomfortable and wanting to feel safe and healthy at work. He didn't understand my concern for my own health at my place of employment. His response was rude and makes me feel not supported by my manager. It isn't appropriate for him to ask why I feel stressed about a possible COVID infection. It is inappropriate for my manager to behave this way.
