I hired this company and paid over $1, 100 for this company to design a website and to host the website. I don't know much about computers, so I trusted that everything they told me was accurate. After the company completed the design of the website, I requested for them to upload my corporate logo and they stated for a fee of $70/hr. That respond prompted me to do my due dilligence and contact other website/graphic companies to see exactly what I paid for. After investigating, I found out that I should have access to my hosting account and my files because that is what I paid for. When I contacted the owner he refused to give me access to them and asked why did I want access-did I plan on moving my website. I asked for my files they refused to give the files to me. I signed a contract with this company in April 2008 and it is now Jan. 2010 and they will not give me access to my files. I had to pay godaddy for hosting (which they gave me access the same day.) However, after I paid godaddy for hosting-I was left with no files to upload to the hosting. I was forced to pay another company that had my website up and running in 3 weeks. This company refuses to give its paying customers its files or access to it hosting account at an attempt to force you to pay them for every change needed to your website. If they don't give you access to your website files or give you access to your hosting then you don't really own your own website. I should have done my due dilligence into this company before I paid them one penny. Everyone be aware of scam organization that prey on customers that aren't computer savvy.

As I read your complaint against this company, I truly felt sympathy for your plight and am sorry it happened.
It is easy to say that you should have read the contract and terms of service better then run away if you don't like what they say, but having been fooled myself in similar ways I know how easy it is to be drawn in by slicksters and to want to believe their words. This type of event affects everyone in the trade because it creates just a little bit more distrust against our profession.
Running a small, independent web design/hosting company myself, I know that there are two sides to every story, but no one has ever felt then need to write a complaint against me.
When creating a website for someone, I do not want the client tampering with any file, especially when the site is scripted. My reason is simple: who gets blamed when the site stops working. There is never a charge for corrections and small updates are usually free. A charge to upload a logo? Never, it should have been part of the build. All clients get their own copy of all website files.
I am happy that someone else has helped you and treated you right. Complain to the BBB and post their reply.
