There are no words to accurately depict how outraged we are with Compass Van Lines' services.  When it came down to them and a competitor, they reassured us that the truck will leave as soon as it is packed. Our customer representative told us over the phone that outside of weather and road conditions, the truck should be delivered on Thursday (June 25th), Friday at the latest, however the truck didn't even leave until Thursday.  I moved for a job and I very nearly lost it because of their tardiness, not to mention the loss of a week's worth of income due to their delays.   So many of our items are either broken or damaged beyond use that I must conclude that they are at the very least outrageously neglectful, or were deliberately and intentionally breaking our stuff. On top of that, several items are missing, including the essential cross-boards to our baby's crib.  Now she has to sleep on the floor until we can buy a new crib, which we would be able to do if they hadn't robbed us of an additional $1, 700 on top of the quote.  We were misled (if not outright lied to) about far too many aspects of their services (i.e. insurance, delivery, professionalism, punctuality).  I strongly feel that we were taken advantage of with bait and switch tactics.   Before delivery, we informed our rep's supervisor of our dissatisfaction in being charged an extra $1700, not to mention the $675 in packing supplies they tried charging us. My wife and I diligently packed all our stuff, but they claimed to have used 80 rolls of packing tape and charged us $4/roll, and $15/box. The smaller items they threw (literally) into larger boxes, which was unnecessary, and charged us for 15 boxes when I can only find 4. When we called, they were in no way willing to do ANYTHING about it.  Now after receiving less than all of our items, many of which in poor condition, we're way past dissatisfied. The additional $1, 700 would have been easier to stomach if not for the negligence and unprofessionalism, or I could have stomached the horrible service if they weren't robbing us of all our money.  We've slowly accumulated these items over 5 years and in one week they managed to destroy so much of what we've built up, and we haven't even unpacked everything yet. There is absolutely no excuse for the condition in which our stuff was returned to us. Compass Van Lines' care over our items was at the very least outrageously neglectful. Over the phone we were reassured by our rep, that everything is insured up to $10, 000, however only after everything was loaded did I find out that it is only $0.40 per pound, per item. So essentially, even though we have over $2, 000 in damages, we'll be lucky to get back $100. For most of the packing, I purchased 60 plastic bins from Home Depot (because they were only slightly more expensive than cardboard boxes and we could reuse them) and nearly all of them are unsalvageable. The cardboard boxes we did have now more closely resemble brown paper bags full of broken garbage. So to recap, Compass Van Lines robbed us with bait'n'switch tactics, lied to us about their services over the phone, stopped answering the phones when we wanted to know where our stuff was, delivered almost a week late, broke nearly ALL of our plastic bins, boxes, and contents of those boxes, lost 4 items, ruined essential parts to my $3, 400 office furniture (mainly due to water damage), and are completely unwilling to rectify the situation.  Avoid these crooks at all cost. You will be much better off doing it yourself.

Please -everyone heed the writers warning. I wish I had read this before I used them for the same thing happened to me. Everything was ruined by water damage in their storage facilities. We lost over $10, 000 worth of personal and some irreplaceable items. I am working with an atty right now and I think if everyone got together there would be a great class action suit against these crooks and thieves.
Anyone that wants to join in, write a message here
I am assuming we are all talking about the same compass (they used to dba Globus)

I am currently waiting for my belongings to be delivered. It has been 3 weeks since I made payment. They charged me almost 5 times their original quote. Avi the supervisor has threatened and harassed me. They charged me a $60 late fee if I was 1 day late on the storage payment. I filed a complaint with The BBB who sided with Compass! Will I ever see my things? Count me in on any class action.

Just filed my complaint with The Federal Trade Commission. The representative there told me to encourage others who were ripped off by this company to do the same.
The FTC: [protected].
FYI: I find it awfully strange that once I told Compass Van Lines of all the negative feedback on the internet about them that I see 2 positive postings about them...

My quote was just doubled when the movers picked up my household items. I alsp spoke with Avi whom is hard to understand and may be intentionaly move to get you confused. I would not sign until binding agreement was honored. They send Walter; who a move just one qeek on the job, and he left so much space at the top of the trailer empty that this is how they tried to say my cibic foot was more than estimated. Check and video tape your movers if you are in an agreement with this company. To be continued at delivery.

Keep me informed for class action suits: enejorg@yahoo.com

Quoted me a great price. I had everything packaged as the representative told me to have it packaged (wrapped, boxed, etc) Had the exact same amount of items as my quote said I should have. Then when they got there, they tacked on an extra 2000 dollars to what was originally a 2, 300$ quote. Sweet. Then, they wouldn't give me a date that they would be able to deliver my belongings until about 3 days before they showed up in Los Angeles( A pain when you are trying to coordinate moving across the country). Then, when they got there, they had lost roughly 2, 300 dollars worth of stuff. Just gone. (A box full of dress shoes, a high-end hiking pack, and a super high-end sleeping bag). Then the driver got a parking ticket, and wouldn't deliver any of our stuff unless we gave him cash on the spot for the ticket. Almost impossible to get in touch with them once they have your stuff. All voicemail, never return calls. Broke two of my paintings and a 500 dollar mirror(not even going to bother trying to get them to reimburse) Then, added nearly 700 dollars more that they needed in cash for the delivery because they charge an extra 75$ to use an elevator and 100$ per 75 ft from the back of the truck to the furnitures location to the truck. So basically, what was originally a 2300 dollar quote became a 6, 000 dollar ordeal. If you include the value of stuff that they lost or broken it was close to a 9, 000 dollar ordeal. If you use this company your brain is broken.

Seriously if any one can convince a lawyer to take on Compass Van Lines in a Class Action suit I think we have enough people to make a case. I can be reached at enejorg@yahoo.com to be included in case. Fro the complaints here and on BBB it clearly shows they have a bad 2010. Also, I went into mediation expecting to explain my facts in a timeline and provide reason for being considered overcharged. I expected to get reimubrsed for the amount I claimed since I beleive my support proved my case. I was asked to sign a release and I refused. When I reviewed and understood the release, I realized that I should not sign away my rights to pursure this case in other venues especially if the amount that I claimed, at minimum, was not given back to me. I also have pictures that I will upload once I transfer from my camera to USB; showing that the truck was not loaded properly.

DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THESE PEOPLE! They also have a habit of using trolls to give themselves positive reviews in an effort to hide how AWFUL their customer service really is. Please make sure that you do your family a favor and stay away. My story is below.

This moving company is a scam. I needed a cross country move from Maryland to California. They quoted me half of what they ended up charging. Here's how the scam works everyone: first they showed up at my house three hours late and cursed me out en route. Once they loaded all of my stuff up they doubled the price of the move and demanded payment. After that they were late delivering and threw on another $200 in charges when they arrived. The owner, Prosper Britton of Rockville, MD, is a known scam artist whose company is being investigated. If you have been a victim, please contact the highway administration to get his "business" shut down!

They lied to me about delivery date. My delivery was supposed to be here on June 3, now it is June 8 and I have found out that my stuff is still located in its original location! At first they said 7-10 business days, now they're changing it to 21. Avoid at all cost! I am here in a much colder climate without sheets, blankets, jackets, clothes, not to mention furniture. They have had my stuff since May 27; what have they been doing with it?! Do not use them!

I decided to choose Compass Van Lines when they beat the competitor by lowering their price. When it came time to pack up my belongs, they charged me for tape that they did not need to use. I had left to go to the bank because I was charged 150's extra for living on the 3rd floor. My belongs were then pack, this was in August. I called them at the end of September and the did not know where my shipment was, mind you it was suppose to be in storage. When I get my shipment all of my belongs are damage, my bookcase is broken, my desk is broken, and all my boxes have been damaged. But this is not the icing on the cake, my TV is missing. When asked about it the driver continues to say "I am only the driver" and that the other driver quit and left my belongings in the middle of South Carolina. Customer Service wasn't that great either, I had to call about ten times a day to get any answers, and all she kept saying was I need to contact my driver. Shouldn't they be responsible for their drivers actions, and accountable at all times for where they are at. I now have to fill out forms that may take up to three months to process in order to get the money for my television. As a moving company they should hold themselves to a higher standard, I was unhappy in which my shipment was processed and hope that this review helps others.

Compass Van Lines is a rip-off. They give you a low quote over the phone to get your business and then when they pick up your furniture, they doubled my quote. They don't tell you this until they already have your furniture on the truck. They didn't deliver furniture until several days after the promised due date and then when they did come they didn't get there until after mid-night. Said they would be there at 6pm. Waited for 6 hours. Three of the 5 pieces of furniture were broken. They didn't give us ahe appropiate forms to file a insurance claim. Had to make several phone calls over a 3 week period to get these forms. Please beware, this company is a scam.

They never called to let me know they were coming. They just showed up. They forged my moving contract, and then tried to hold their changes over my head. They broke and lost over $1300 worth of items and only offered me $160 as a settlement. When I complained to the BBB, they first ignored it, then said it was MY fault they screwed up. I hope they go out of business soon. NO one use them!
