We've had our pool 6 years and the tile started falling off. When we called Maryland Pools to remedy the problem they say we now have to replace all of the tile and pool coping. In doing some research I learned that this problem occurs when best practices are not followed when constructing the pool. Maryland Pools says it will cost almost $9000 to remedy a problem caused by their poor workmanship. When I questioned them they said it is commonplace to have to do this. Sorry, but they didn't put that in the brochure and most other pool companies asked claim that they don't have that problem because they apply better techniques. My advice, avoid Maryland Pools.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
We have a pool by Maryland Pools that's about the same age with the same problem. Only they don't return our calls. We had them install a pool in our old house and the tiles on that pool never fell off in fifteen years. Seems like now they're cutting corners.
We've also had numerous problems with the filter system not cleaning the pool. Their standard answer was to clean the filter. One time I drained the pool to show them the bottom drain was clogged with sediment from the lousy plaster job they did.
We also put in a spa that from day one seems like it leaks water. After a day of running, we find the water level two inches below the skimmer. They''ve never fixed it. Now we've started a new season with all these problms on going and they won't even return our calls.
Please contact me - I am experiencing the same issue. When my pool was opened this past May, several coping stones and ### line tiles had all but fallen off. It is now August and 50 calls later to Maryland Pools, I still do not have resolution. Worst yet is that a subcontractor of thiers advised me that Maryland Pools told his company that my pool is now to old an not their responsibility. Being non-responsive is bad business...and to get this level of treatment is unacceptable. They need to be held to the quality of thier product. If you are interested, please send me an email: thomcat91@aol.com. Thanks.
I have a pool by Maryland pools. We immediately started noticing plaster problems within days of the plaster work- about 40 cracks some 2-3 feet, plaster pops where large chunks of plaster fell off, areas of extreme roughness throughout pool looking like Thomas's english muffin (best way to describe). Note that the pool was filled immediately with water over less than 3 hours via trucks... The whole time the pool was being completed but the subcontractors, not a single person from Maryland Pools came to check the work. They do not respond to calls, emails, etc. Once they get your money, they do not want to make sure that things are correct. It looks like we are going to have to drain the pool and hire a different company to replaster the pool. It seems to me that the contractor used was less than acceptable, I have been instructed to have the plaster tested as there are many things added to "cut" the plaster to save money. My main issue is the lack of response to the problem by Maryland Pools. Once they get your money, they do not want to make sure that things are correct or that the consumer is happy with the product.
I am currently doing battle with Maryland Pools. We are the 2nd owners, but from the first opening (we acquired the pool 4 years ago and the pool is 8 years old), we noticed a crack. They came out and filled it. We then started noticing more cracks and they said that was normal. 2 tiles popped off last season. Now, we are losing 1/2" of water every day and we now have 16 cracks with one showing rust stains. I was told by their construction manager that 1/2" of water loss isn't uncommon especially when the temperature cools down. My bucket test tells me that I should only be losing 1/16" of less of water every day which I told him and to which he said nothing. Our warranty still covers us for the gunite shell, underground piping and P.C.C. underground piping and heads but at this point, I believe it's going to be a fight to get this resolved. If it weren't for this warranty, we would go with another pool company to get this resolved. This is not a company you want to do do business with.
If you go with Maryland Pools after reading these complaints you get what you deserve. They are all true !
I wish I had came across this site before I selected them.
- Won't respond to calls or emails. Seriously, good luck with that one.
- Poor workmanship
- Nobody from Maryland Pools checks on the work being done
- You may get your pool, just 6 - 12 months after you thought you would. I can't even imagine what the on-going support will be like
They are very good (and quick) to take your money though. Make sure you hold 70% of the payments until it is completed, maybe that would have been a better approach.
Trust me, find another pool company. Maryland Pools is just too big to care about you or your problems with the pool despite your hard earned money being spent.
Their sales guys are great and will have all the answers. Once you sign the contract, it's goodbye and best of luck my friend.
I hope this saves somebody the aggravation and misery myself and family have endured.
My Maryland Pool is 2 years old. Tiles are falling off and the plaster underneath is cracking. I emailed Maryland pools and they responded right away asking for pictures. After that, they have ignored repeated calls and emails. After waiting 20 days I called my sales person. He told me he would look into it right away but he too has not responded after a week. I would not recommend this company.
James who was your sales guy? Have you tried to email the owner ? While this hasn't helped, I thought it might be worth a shot. This pool company is the pits. They seriously just don't care once they have your money. How they got so many customers on such awful customer service I will never know. I have been doing research after my experience and there are so many complaints out there. Just look at the Better Business Bureau

Check the better business bureau. There are many complaints there as well.
Do yourself a favor and find another pool company because MD pools will crush your hopes and dreams not to mention your hard earned money.
The support is terrible. Find yourself another pool company there are many out there. This company has gone down hill in a hurry from a few years ago.
They put our pool in 1979; within a week the deck was cracking in several places. I got no response from them...UNTIL I sent them & the bank a certified letter stating that I would not make another payment (under the new lemon law) until our decking was repaired. Maryland Pool had already received their money from the bank (they were happy) & as long as I paid the bank (they were happy)..I was the only unhappy person! Well, after they received their certified letters; the bank reps & MD Pool VP came out to our house. They attemped to patch the cracks; which made the deck look worse. Finally they recovered the entire decking with epoxy river rock (which cost MD Pool quite a bid of money). I WOULD NOT recommend them to anyone!
Maryland Pools is going out of business, leaving dozens with incomplete pools and hundreds with voided warranties.
