Dear Sir,

I was selected by above Bank to work as operations manager and gave me lucrative package offer, for which I left my 25 year old service in bank in india.

However when I actually joined above bank on 21.04.2009 the bank didnot provided me any work till 14.05.2009 and finally terminated my service saying that I was found incompetent and asked to pay airfare and agent commission incurred by the bank out of my pocket. This is in voilation of the agreement which says if the management terminates services of any expatriate except in case of a fraud, then they will pay three months salary as compensation, but above bank asked to pay out of whatever megare amount I took with me before flying to uganda.
The return airtickets were arranged by my family members and I finally returned to india. I have already filed and FIR in Mumbai india and sent an registered letter to indian embassy in uganda, but it all went into vain.
I tried to reach the directors of the bank via facebook but received no response.

Dear All,
All that you heard about Bank not paying salary in time, removing employees without notice or notice pay, keeping employees withou proper visa or keeping passport in their custody etc. are very much true and faced by me.
Whatever you negotiate in india is not applicable in uganda and politicans of ugandan countries are part and parcel of ownership of bank. There you have to work at the whims and fatasis of management and you cannot take on ride to local people who settles scores on roads.
my advise to all the people is not to fall prey to any offer and only those people who are related to MR KALAN OR MR AJAY KUMAR can succeed in this bank and all other will have to leave job within six months of joining after loosing money and peach of mind

Hello,
I am Girish Gupta, the person who faced the heat and posted this on internet for benefit of sundry and all.
All that you heard about the Bank for not paying salary in time, not paying salary as per contract, keeping employees without proper work visa, keeping employees passport on hold on day one, treating employees as slaves and getting work done for upto 19 hrs a day and removing employees without notice or notice pay etc. are all true. they even deduct 30% in the name of income tax which they never pays to govt.
all that you enter into contract in india donot work in uganda as big politicans of uganda have ownership stake. In this bank only employees who are relatives of MR KALAN OR MR AJAY KUMAR or who have hands of above people on their head can succeed and all others face the heat and leave bank within first six months of joining after loosing mony and peace of mind. My advise to all and sundry is not to fall prey to their salary structure and do not leave the country on tourist visa.

Dear All,

whatever I have posted is based on truth and facts of the case. Sleeping in job and other allegations are merely false and propogated by management to avoid my due three months penalty?

Can you believe a person working 25 years in bank to sleep in banking hall that too in treasury where he has been posted as treasury incharge, when all other persons who joined alongwith him were transferred to different branches.

The fact is that both MD & DMD of bank refused to meet and even talk over to me after my termination, since it is highly unjustified. In my short duration as treasury incharge, the treasury was closed at 6.30 pm a never before and never after in the history of crane bank. Further, after returning from uganda I got back my original job and is still working and nobody ever complained like that.

My dear you have to accept whatever management says, when your passport is in their custody, you are not paid salary but asked to reimburse airfare, agent commission and other expenses out of your pocket and your tourist visa is expiring after three days.

So, there may be hundreds of happy story, my post is very much genuine and still in files of mumbai police, who cannot proceed in the matter because, i donot have any documentary proof against bank management, other wise i am having hold to get both mr kalan & mr ajay kumar arrested in india.

Dear All,

I wish to say that in a situation, when you were not paid salary, you are in foreign country, your passport is in employers custody and your visa is expiring within 3 days, you cannot contest the allegations of management. Otherwise, management could not have posted me as treasury manager in KAMPALA a very presitigous post and could not have transferred out all other new recruits out of KAMPALA MAIN BRANCH. Though I donot deny happy stories of many employees, as I have very short experience of bank, I must say whatever I had encountered was unjustified and unwarranted incident and based on true facts of case. BOTH MD MR KALAN & DMD MR AJAY KUMAR REFUSED to even speak to me after termination and asked cashier to collect RETURN AIRFARE AND AGENT COMMISSION AS WELL from me. How can you expect a person working continuously for 25 years in a bank and still working after return from uganda to be alleged with such an silly cause. The treasury of the bank was under camera survillence and if the management had the courage, they could have proved it by showing camara footage, but preferred not to even talk to a person, whose life and expectations were ruined because of their act.

It seems management of the bank has appointed many publicity agents? If management is so concious about its image, then when they collect three months salary from outgoing employee at gunpoint, why not settle the account of terminated employees with payment as per contract?

Ha ha ha, Sudheer sucks, and A R Kalan is another sucker, it was your mistake taking up employment without doing a background check of the great Crane Bank. The bank of the year and all that rubbish. you didn't ask who gave them the bank of the year award. you were asking for it. at least you can make this a warning sign here. you are not the first and you will not be the last. I remember when I was working for the hotel division in finance - they fired a Chef who was working with the Taj for 15 years and they offered him a handsome salary and when he came there they said that such and such amount would be deducted for housing and some other crap and he worked for half the salary he was getting in Taj and he worked for 3 months and he had a tough time. ... sudheer is a sucker of blood.

How safe is working with the great crane bank, I have been offered an appointment from the Crane bank and they are conducting interviews in and around India in various places. He has not told that the job is offered only in uganda . But the advertisement has been given in indian famous daily times of india stating opening of 66 branches in and around the country. It is not specified that it is in uganda or in India. Any one please tell me that whether it is safe to work with ugandan crane bank.

Dear All,
I have been called by this bank for an interview next week for ops manager.
The feedback received by me is
they dont pay salary at time.
they remove staff without any notification and do not even pay 3 month salary as per contract
they treat indians as slave.
they have only 19 branhes and are in need of 15 branch operations manager and they had recruitment last year also for this post.
then where are the employees who has joined last year.
Pls guide whether all these allegations i have heard is true?I am working at a renowed bank in india and am not in a financial strong condition to bear job loss.
Hence pls guide whether to attend interview and whther to join if selected.
what is the salary to be negotiated if going.
Cost of living etc.
Also provide some1's contact no. who is working at this bank now.

Heard the tax in Uganda is 30% on the gross salary. need to check & confirm the same. If it's true we need to bargain for the salary accordingly.

Hi, even i had got a call for an interview. They have assigned the recruitment process to Placewell HRD consultants in India & they are not willing to give any information on Crane Bank. It is quite surprising to see that the bank does not have any HR person, instead the contact details of a Branch manager has been given. Would request you all to kindly advise on whether to take up job with this bank or not (if offered).

Information available on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crane_Bank
Crane Bank started operations in 1995 after receiving a commercial bank license from the Bank of Uganda. The bank is a member of the Ruparelia Group which includes financial institutions, insurance companies, real estate investments, horticultural enterprises, hotels and resorts. As of May 2012, Crane Bank is pursuing expansion plans into the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda and South Sudan. No wonder then Mrs. Jyotsna Ruparelia and Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia are on the board of directors.Looks like a husband wife enterprise.

I am also confused of what to do?The bank is good one but is offering less package.
They do not know how the packages in India for bankers have increased .Indians are offered above 50k in home town for BM/BOM post. They are giving the same package in Ugnada and that too on contract basis. Why we indians would go to uganda for same package and that too on contract?3 Months salary will also be withheld by them as security.

Let me first make it clear to all. When we work in a foreign country we are all governed by the laws of that country. When we go there, the profile given to us may not be exactly discussed or advised to us. If we refuse to work on the changed profile, then, we are asked to go back. In the contract it is very clearly written that, in case management decides to terminate the contract, for reason of non compliance of lawful order, or lack of productivity of the staff which at the time of interview is exaggerated and performance is found below par and above all the behavior of staff is adamant, then the situation may arise, that concerned staff may be asked to bear his own expenses as per the contract terms and asked to go back. We take a risk by going abroad, working in alien conditions and alien laws, and it is best we adjust to the situation, to which other expatriates are adjusting . It is futile, to blame other party ie management of the bank and give oneself a clean chit. Hence, this risk of keeping your words given at the time of interview with performance will always remain in a bank which only recognizes performance, obedience and discipline. Coming to the situation, where the costs are asked and savings potential evaluated, it is a personal call, and we need to be careful before accepting the contract . Communication gaps will arise and it is therefore, important, to check the self career objectives vis a vis potential of the savings and family life and facilities in a developing country like Uganda, and if we compare it to India, then social life, education, medical facilities etc in uganga will be little deficient... end of day, life on whole is ok... hundreds of expatriates are enjoying a wonderful life, in Uganda, a quality they never got in India... rest I leave to the reader to decide. As far as crane bank is concerned is has a good growth record, good HR record, Good Assets qualities, and management runs it in the way best suited to Uganda's way of life. I will ask all not expect, Indian laws and life style to happen in Uganda. you to adjust to Ugandan lifestyle, laws, local practices and infra structure...
