May 11, 2023: I received a text from short code 36394 welcoming me to receipt of further texts from "Credit Management", a company collecting debts on behalf of the North Texas Tollway Authority. Included was a short url (s-url. pro/rk2mTL) and a phone number [protected]). I haven't ventured near a toll road in a year, and haven't driven on one in about 5 years. I've never received a notice of a bill owed to the NTTA, and others in my household have, so I know they have the ability to get a bill here - if I actually owed a debt.
Upon searching the phone number provided, it belongs to an insurance company operating from Florida and Louisiana it seems. I tried to research the short url provided, but the reverse search engines did not have information on it, and I'm not about to actually click it.
Desired outcome: Cessation of spam text messages and deletion of my information from their databases.
I got the exact same text just recently! Same situation: never really use toll roads and if I did, I know they’ll be sending a bill to my place of residence first. Did they ever text you again?
Same with me! They called me once and said I owed about $40 in tolls. (I have taken tolls but I work part time for uber so the toll fee comes from my earnings.) I was almost stupid enough and gave them my card info until my girlfriend told me to hang up. They tried calling again eariler toay and I just got this text. Hmm...
I got one too, but I was stupid and clicked it because we had been having problems with NTTA changing us for tolls we hadn't used (legit ntta, by mail). I guess they got the info somewhere and used it to look legit... later that day I got a message in my email from Microsoft "We received your request for a single-use code to use with your Microsoft account." I can only assume it's because I clicked that link 🙄 ... I can't believe I did that, I'm usually so cautious...
