This dental organization has multiple offices. They use false advertising on their websites in order to lure you in with promises of "Free Initial Consults" and "Easy Financing Available" with no money down and up to 5 years to repay them for your dental care treatment. Upon arrival, they sat me in a room and immediately started taking x-rays, prior to ever speaking to a dentist. When I told the assistant that I was there for a consult only - just to meet with the dentist and talk about my history, my needs, and my dental anxiety, in order for ME to determine if I felt comfortable with this dentist - and in order for the Dentist to determine if they would be willing to take me on as a patient - someone with high level dental anxiety. The Assistant tells me that the dentist can answer my questions without seeing the x-rays. Next, they tell me I need a cancer screening test. I ask how much - the Receptionist walks into the room and says "Your total, including the cancer screening test, is $385.00"
What happened to the Free Consult?...I asked the receptionist this very question. Her answer blew my mind. She says: "This exam room isn't the "Free Consult Room". You would need to be in that room (points across the hall), seated in that chair (points to a chair in the room across the hall) in order to qualify for the "Free Initial Consultation". I wanted to ring this chicks neck!
The treatments that the Dentist used on me - Dr. Neri Moss, as it turns out are NOT the accepted and approved methods. For example, this dentist uses something called a "Non-Bonded Technique" for her fillings and crowns. In other words, they are not bonded to the teeth permanently, and basically will only last you a maximum of 5 years...after that time, they fall out and would need to be repeated again. She clearly does this so that she can guarantee herself some long term repeat business.
Other things that happened there... The "Easy Financing" that they tout on their website? Once they told me my total charges would be $26, 000.00 (yup! $26k - NOT a typo!), she then told me that I needed to come up with a 50% deposit on the day of each procedure, and then the balance would have to be paid prior to 30 days. I asked about the financing I had seen on the website...in fact, I asked her about it no less than 5 times, and her response each time was "We don't offer financing. Our financing consists of half down, balance in 30 days - AND we put the balance due on your credit card as a hold, until you pay us off in cash before the 30 days are up."
I was scheduled for work on 6 teeth, and I was to be sedated due to my dental fears and anxiety. When the dentist failed to sedate me, she just took the drill and went at it anyway. When I began having an anxiety attack, this ### of a dentist begins to scream at me, threatening to stop! Oh - did I mention that they also yanked a tooth out of my mouth when they took the impressions/molds? They left it in too long, so the impressions material stuck to my teeth, and pulled it out. Did they fix that tooth for free? NOPE! I paid $1000 for it. When I finally did manage to become sedated, the dentist ended up working ONLY on the one tooth that they had broken off, and left the other 5 teeth that were scheduled to be worked on completely untouched. I woke up expecting to see results on the top front six teeth, and saw only one tooth repaired. When I complained, her answer was that she had other patients to get to, so she had to stop after the one tooth.
I am in the midst of arguing with this group now. I plan on suing them in both civil and criminal courts, as their false advertising claims are what brought me there...and now the work that was done (one tooth) has to be repeated by another dentist, since Dr. Moss used these antiquated and unacceptable techniques, and simply made a mess of it. When I wrote to the owner of the group, I asked if they would be prepared to work out a settlement out of court, to which they said yes, and made it seem like they were willing to pay me in an expedient manner. Now, they are playing games, changing their story, trying to put me off and use all sorts of absurd tricks and tactics, designed to pay me the least amount of money possible. So, I have had it!
DO NOT GO TO DAWSON DENTAL! IF you have severe fear or anxiety over dental work, they will lie to you and tell you that they are sedation dentistry specialists...when in fact, they do not even have the proper LICENSING to be legally allowed to perform sedation! Avoid, avoid and especially avoid Dr. Neri Moss. She is fresh out of dental school, and she is in it for the M O N E Y! She will use techniques that are known to fail, just so you have to go back in and have it fixed and repeated, so that she can make more M O N E Y off of you!
This patient that wrote this review must be absolutely crazy. My husband, 5 children and myself have been patients of Dr. Moss' at Dawson Dental for almost 3 years now. I find it repulsive and contemptuous that anyone would find Dr. Moss in the manner that was mentioned in the above review. Dr. Moss is soft spoken, very pleasant and always smiling whenever we are there. The whole office and team are warm and friendly. We are always greeted with smiles, as if we were family. I have and will continue to recommend Dr. Moss and her team at Dawson Dental to friends and family. Honestly, by the comments from the review above appear to be very scandalous in discrediting Dawson Dental.
Dawson Dental in Ontario Canada. They did the same thing to my husband and I. We told them we have not been to the dentist in some time and to treat it as such. We went for the free consultation only to be x rayed and charged roughly 400 dollars. They have taken over 1000 dollars out of our pockets and when confronted about the charges there isn't a clear explanation. The whole staff seems to be unhelpful and very clueless. I had fillings done to a few of my teeth only to find they were not buffed right so my teeth felt rough like I had rubbed sand on them. They also didnt tell me that they had to call a "specialist" to pull a tooth and charged me more money. Dawson Dental is a terrible dentist and if you value your money DO NOT GO. Many positive reviews are just lures made by the staff themselves. Thanks Dawson Dental for taking advantage of new customers.
I went to dawson dental to have a mouthguard made. I made sure to get the total price before the mouthguard was made. After the procedure was completed, I paid the agreed upon amount. I received my mouth guard a month later. It took about twice as long to arrive than the 2 weeks that I was told. The transaction was complete; I received a service and product, and I paid the total sum. 3.5 months later, I get an invoice in the mail, for 35% of the amount I had originally paid. I have never had any services done at dawson dental, other than this mouthguard. I called and spoke with Essie, who describes herself as a manager. She tells me that the original price was just an estimate (haha how convenient that this is the first time i have heard that), and that I would be required to pay 35% more than the original cost, because the product costs more than they had anticipated. I thought this was some kind of joke, but she was quite serious. The transaction was already completed, how can they come back and ask for more money 3.5 months later? If I was told of the hidden fees beforehand, I would have purchased my mouthguard elsewhere, as the 35% mark up meant that the product was no longer at a competitive price. Essie tells me that I am unreasonable, and that I should just pay the money. She tried to guilt me by reminding me that the cost would now have to come out of Dr. Moss' pocket, and how little dentists made because they have debt from dental school. I stuck firm to my principals: I will not pay for your error. We had agreed upon a price, you cannot come back later and ask for more. Essie ends the phone call by telling me that patients like me are not welcome at Dawson Dental. "like me" ? did she mean educated, fair, and noncompliant with bullying?
I am a smart consumer. If you are one as well, you should never go to Dawnson Dental)
Had a similar experience with Dr. Moss here in Vancouver. She became defensive when I asked about more conservative options to treat a tooth issue and said she always recommends the most conservative approach. I consulted another dentist and discovered that not only could the issue be treated more conservatively (filling versus crown) but she had also diagnosed the problem in the wrong tooth. Needless to say I transferred my care immediately to the other dentist. Also, to comment on the reply that calls the initial complaintant "crazy" and then goes on to describe in detail how wonderful the dentist, office staff are, etc. in such glowing terms that one has to question whether they were written by a staffer - it appears that despite this aggressive rebuttal others have had the same experience and certainly I was not impressed by this dentist's manner or professional ability. Be wary.
Advice if the dentist advertise free consultation and they charge you for non authorised work simply say i, m not paying for work i did not give you approval for you to do then walk out if they start call Ellen Roseman of the Toronto Star
