From start to finish, this company has shown their disdain for their customers. In 2010 I was doing a major renovation on my home and Got a Rona credit card. This is actually a Desjardins Credit card. It was billed as a no payment no interest for X # of months. It was not explained that it was actually a 2 tiered card that only purchases over $300 qualified for that service. It is still unclear to me as to weather this was a Rona employed sales person or a Desjardins rep. As I was under the impression that no payments were required for the term I assigned and I was in-between houses my mail was not looked at as frequently as possible I did not see the smaller purchases being billed. I missed a couple of small payments ($30 -$50) and then Desjardins froze my account. It took a ridiculously long time to get through to them and once I did They claimed to have left several phone messages re my account. Again it took a large amount of work on my side but eventually I determined that Desjardins did, indeed, leave VM... in French! I don't speak french. I had deleted or ignored them thinking they were more phone spam as I repeat... I don't speak french. To clear things up and get the smudge on my credit reversed, Rona staff and I worked together to close the account(card) I was told at closing time that the account could not be closed completely until "all the dust settles" to confirm that there had been no further use or charges to this card. 2 weeks later I rec'd an account statement showing a $195 over payment. I assumed that as with other credit companies that this would be returned in due time once the account closed. a month or 2 later this had still not been returned so I called Desjardins (and again waited a ridiculously long time to get thru) and was informed that I should just use the balance at the Rona store. This was a very poor response but after all the other BS i determined that I was being informed that this overpay would not be reimbursed and that I should treat it as a gift card/store credit. So I hung onto the card (and credit) watched the monthly statement saying I had a credit continue to come in. This went on for aprox 1 year then I had a project and decided to use the card/credit. IT WAS DECLINED as THEY had CLOSED MY ACCOUNT! So They had closed my account but held my Money (overpayment) for well over a year. When I asked why they said that I had to request the return of my money? ... but the person I was talking to couldn't do that, I had to talk to a different dept. I finally had time today to get thru to the correct dept and this nightmare should be over soon... I hope.***WARNING*** Desjardins is the account holder for a number of stores Please pay close attention to the credit issuer when applying for a store card... and only sign on for a Desjardins one if 1), you speak French, 2) you intend to pay every month 3) you enjoy spending long hours on the phone, 4) You have a computer science degree to figure out their website 5) you have an IQ equal to Einstein to figure out the monthly statement ...otherwise ... pay cash or find it elsewhere
