Our kitty died yesterday in the ER. 6 Weeks ago be purchased the kitty from the breeder. Although he had a runny nose, runny eyes, and dark wax in ears; the breeder assured us that he is healthy and had a vet check him. At 7.5mo of age, he was 4lbs and skinny. With proper feeding and attention we were sure that he would get better and fatter. After 2 weeks, symptoms persisted and we sought attention from a vet. The vet concluded that he had bacterial infection and prescribed a course of antibiotics and considered the illness as upper respiratory infection. Symptoms alleviated, however a week later they relapsed. On the four week after we bought him, we returned to the vet and were prescribed a stronger course of antibiotics, and special remedy for the ears. From this treatment there was no improvement. He was loosing weight, had lack of energy, and constantly slept. Breathing worsened. The third time, the vet diagnosed Hemobartonella! This infection destroys the red blood cells leading to severe anemia. We were shocked. We lost our beloved kitty. The kitty suffered and this is the most painful thing for me. I warn you against this breeder. LETS STOP THIS MANUFACTURE of cats with poor health and neglect. She must be ashamed to do this. We lost our cat, our nerves, a piece of our hearts.

I have known this breeder for years, and worked with her for years. How about you post your name, or maybe even try contacting the breeder as during all of these "problems" you never once contacted her. I now for a fact that she would have done everything in her power to help you and the kitty as this is the kind of breeder she is.
Please explain how this kitty coming down with a disease is the breeders fault? If you come down with cancer is it your parents'
fault?
There are many things that kill cats, the number one being Kidney Disease. This breeder goes so far as to have all of her breeding cats DNA tested for PKD and anything else possible to test for. Sometimes things happen that are beyond a persons control. I find it offensive that you knew so little about a breeder or DID your homework on this breeder and found no complaints. And as soon as you have a problem beyond your control or the breeder or vet for that matter, you can't contact the breeder, you post ANONYMOUSLY on a complaint board. Things happen sometimes that are beyond the realm of control. I would also like to see how you cared for the cat during this time. How many vet visits, if you had the funds to take care of it as necessary. Since you did not post your name, there is no way to know if you are the person that didn't have the $$ to pay regular price so she cut you a break on purchase price. Come out from behind your computer if you feel so strongly about this and let everyone inspect you and pick you apart without knowing anything about you. One unfortunate incident with a cat does not a bad breeder make. These are a fairly rare breed and unfortunately they can't all be guaranteed to live long healthy lives (neither can other breeds). BUT had you contacted your breeder she would have made the situation right. Having a sick cat is unfortunate and horrible experience to go through, but does NOT make a bad breeder. All breeders will at one time or another have a situation that turns out unexpectedly. It is how the breeder handles the situation that determines if you have a bad breeder or good breeder. You should have contacted your breeder before crucifying her publicly instead of giving her an opportunity to make the situation right. She is a human and she takes ultimate great care of her cats, otherwise I would think upon visiting and picking up the cat you would have turned and ran if the case appeared differently. Why not post the vet's name so that others can call to verify the information as well? Google the disease and see the multiple ways that this disease can be transmitted as well. There are many ways of transmission including, fleas, ticks & mosquitos...
The "black stuff" in the ears is common in this breed and a simple ear cleaning is all that is necessary. Green pus means an URI that has gone untreated for quite some time. URI is also a common problem, like a common cold.

The person filing the complaint needs to contact the breeder. Nothing has been resolved because they have not contacted me yet and I am the breeder being slandered.
We placed 2 kittens in April and both have been contacted by me and the owners tell me that their kittens are doing well. I have these emails saved and printed.
The name used here to post this is bogus. They can't just document negative comments, compromising a breeder's integrity (this is illegal), without the breeder knowing there was ever a problem. In our contract, they are instructed to vet the kitten within 72 hours. This is so their vet can assure them the kitten they received is healthy. From that point on, it is up to the pet owner to assure the health of the kitten/cat. There is also a health guarantee in the contract they receive and sign at the time of adoption. When a kitten leaves this cattery is has seen a licensed DVM, is altered (spayed/neutered), and guaranteed to be healthy. Why would anyone take home a sick kitten?
We know that things can go wrong and we hope that never happens and we want to know if there are any problems with a kitten we have placed in any home (and the health guarantee in the contract is there to be used in the event something unpredictable happens that is related to the cat's genetics). Anyone who has been to our home knows all this. But for someone to publicly make false statements and suggest we inbreed and have problems is not only unfair but damaging. We work hard to better the breed and our Show Achievements can attest to this. We breed for Health, temperament, and type (CFA Standards), in that order. Judges, exhibitors, and spectators all handle our Devons. Anyone requesting references, please contact me.
I am hopeful this person steps forward and contacts me so I can better understand what happened here. It is important that anytime we have a kitten fail we know why. How else can we try to prevent this from reoccurring? I know this was not an infectious feline disease because we test for all those. This person has made assumptions without having all the facts. We cannot keep all offspring to know the possibilities of unforeseen problems. We need to work with each other because we do so much out-crossing to keep the genetic lines diverse and healthy that we may not know what other genetic traits we have added. I only wish I knew who this was - did we really have a kitten pass or is this just someone causing trouble?
I am very sorry for any heartache this person may have endured (if they exist), we've all experienced that when we sincerely love our pets, and my sincere condolences if this complaint is real. Please contact me at your earliest convenience,
DevineDevons
You have all my contact information on the contract.
I have know the breeder of Dwvone Devons for several years. She is nothing but ethical and committed to her kittens and cats, both hers and those placed with others She is responsive and communicative. I question the complaint. It is COMPLETELY out of character for the Devine Devons lines and breeder...
Wow- the accusations here are shocking. This breeder is SO genuine, honest and very picky. She would never knowingly adopt a sick animal out. Upper Respiratory infections are dime a dozen. Stress can cause them: positive or negative stress. Apparently neither you or your vet understand cats much less the Devon breed. And contacting the breeder would have alleviated all this instantly. I commend Devine Devons and appreciate the amazing job they do. They DNA test, alter, vaccinate and communicate with anyone getting there cats. I hope that this is just a mistake on the posters part. If not, I can say that I have known the cattery for many years and have gotten PURRfect cats from her. Please do not blast them like this. It does not create any solution.
