On Jan 24 I bought the lapsed domain name on behalf of our volunteer-run art gallery. I would normally buy from an Australian domain/hoster but bought from domain.com for an excessive price of $109.99 $US as the site was hosted in the USA.

But I don't own it. It appears to be owned by a broker Dirk Cyr whose email address on domain.com goes nowhere

Desired outcome: To get ownership of the gallery's domain name, as paid for
