Recieved an offical letter on 12/14/08

With excitement from my wife and I we decided to open the letter.

Up in the left corner is P.O. Box 9035, Jericho, NY 11753 Award payments Documents and Reports Prize Data Release Notification Office Files and Records Floor.

In the the center of envelope in bold black letters is RECORDS CARRIER; below to the right is, NO: & numbers and below that is, Delivery of typed- documents sent for private delivery and under this is, Delivery Track Code: and #'s stamped in red.

Inside this envelpe is two documents and return envelope. Know this that as my wife and i read the first document which has in the top center blue words stating AWARD PAYMENT DATA RELEASE DIVISION, my wife and I just knew that this was not real. In this letter words are missed spelled and commas are put in the wrong way, capitalization is in the wrong places as well. Why do you have to pay $19.99 as a release fee i mean if i won than wouldn't they take it out of my check. If i won wouldn't i get a call from some one on behave of this letter. In this letter in the seventh paragraph last sentence it states: " As a private reporting company all accuracy measures are maintained and we are not a government agency. All data is reported and announced ". If that is so well this sure was not announced what a waste of people time making them believe that they won. Robert Richards should be found and sued. In my closing I just would like to thank the people who post their complaints here and in Google because if these comments were not posted, then I would have been another victim to this scam. Thank you and I wish the best for you in the days to come and if any one will be trying to sue this guy count me in because if I could not get any money out of this letter well you bet I will be all in to get the money from him.

I received the same letter today. I almost got excited but I kept my head because I believe that most of the time, if it's too good to be true - it probably is. This letter fell into that category. Letters like these are designed to make you think that you have won a substantial amount of money to get you to purchase goods or services; however, it is not a scam. The $19.99 fee is for membership in their club so that you can receive a booklet or pamphlet of some sort that will inform you of contests and sweepstakes in which you are eligible to enter.
So, they do what they say but the key is to - and I can't stress this enough - READ THE FINE PRINT. In fact, I highly recommend reading every word of every side of every page enclosed in the envelope. If you're still unsure then contact the establishment and make sure that you fully understand what you are getting into before sending a payment. Here's why:
Written on the back of the letter is a portion titled, "Consumer Information". I will include the information contained therein verbatim but for those who don't have time to read the whole thing (it's pretty lengthy) here is the jist of it: "You have not won any money or prize." They "compile sweepstakes opportunities in a newsletter which includes all no purchase entry requirements based on existing federal, state, and local regulations". "This communication is not a sweepstakes or award noticifaction and does not guarantee that you will win any sweepstakes. You do not need to purchase the report to enter any szweepstakes." So basically, you pay the fee to get a list of sweepstakes that are free to enter and you HAVE NOT WON ANYTHING. The entirety of the information is as follows:

"Consumer information: Data Release Division Office (D.R.D.) is a research and reporting service. We specialize in researching sweepstakes sponsored and conducted by corporate organization with which the D.R.D. is completely unaffiliated. We compile these sweepstakes opportunities in a newsletter which includes all no purchase entry requirements based on existing federal, state, and local regulations. You have not won any money or prize. D.R.D. is not liable for any entries made or attempted by readers of its reports. All sweepstakes researched and reported are free to enter, as based on the information supplied by the sponsors. D.R.D. uses all due diligence to accurately report the entry details of each sweepstakes. D.R.D. is not a lottery company, and does not offer lottery, contest, or sweepstakes entries. This promotion may be under different creative presentation. Void where prohibited by law. Responders will be refunded their purchase price of our report in full if they are dissatisfied with the report. Refund claims must be made in writing to the customer service address below within 60 days of purchase. IF YOU DO NOT WISH TO RECEIVE FURTHER MAIL SOLICITATIONS FROM D.R.D., JUST RETURN THIS ENTIRE LETTER IN A PLAIN ENVELOPE TO D.R.D. AT THE CUSTOMER SERVICE ADDRESS BELOW, WITH THE LETTERS "DNM" NEXT TO YOUR NAME/ADDRESS AREA. Please be informed that your information my [sic] be shared with a third party. By paying for your purchase with your check, you are accepting our check acceptance policy. In the unlikely event that your check is returned unpaid, you understand and agree that your check may be electronically represented and we will also collect a returned check processing charge as allowed by state law. If your check is electronically represented, it will not be provided to you with your bank statement, but a copy can be retrieved by contacting your financial institution. We are committed to your privacy and have a privacy policy which is available upon request at the address listed on the outer envelope. This communication is not a sweepstakes or award noticifaction and does not guarantee that you will win any sweepstakes. You do not need to purchase the report to enter any szweepstakes. All customer service issues should be in writing to: CUSTOMER SERVICE. P.O. BOX 433, Plainview, NY [protected].

This is a scam, ID # [protected] and Record # 8274500-A271, I got this one all the way down in Texas. The document explains that you have not won anything on the back page of page 1. So you can't get your money back... never send money, and if you can't walk in and talk to someone and get things in writing the way you understand them, then walk away and shake it off.

Evidently this Robert Richard is still around. His address has changed however.
It's now:
P.O. Box 9004
Westbury, NY [protected]

It's the same as the rest of the promised winning letters. Send $19.99 to claim the winnings.

I have been getting such letters of awards from Jason Robert also I know the documents are not real. I have actually sent them there letter back even though it cost me a stamp and told them when I have the money in my hot little hands then they could have there 19.99$. Well to my surprise they did send another letter stating that I have 12 days to claim my money or loose it. OH WELL! If people watch the news there always telling you to beware of these types of scams. SO BEWARE! The PO BOX is different but it's the same person and scam.
