I ordered raised panel vinyl shutters and have just inspected the product upon receiving the shipment. The quality is too low to be installed on my job site. The bevels in the miters of the raised panel are raised and the sections lap over each other. I called and complained and talked to a service rep and then the manager Ken Clark. Both employees would not give me a credit for tha product that I find of such low quality that I will not install on my remedel project. I went back and looked at their website for the picture of the shutters that I ordered and the picture does NOT show and exihit any of the poor jointery that I have received.
I requested to talk to the owner about my complaint and mske a request for a full credit refund but was refused by the manager Ken Clark. I do not want to upgrade to a more expensive product as both employees of Exterior Solutions tried to lead me for a satisfactory solution . I just want a full refund or a vinyl shutter that meets customer expectations.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer's satisfaction.
The images on the exterior solutions website are of the correct product. This customer ordered a custom made product which clearly states that it is not returnable. This customer was offered an exchange for a more suitable shutter with 100% refund of the original purchase price. The customer refused this as they didn't want to spend the money for wood, composite wood, or even fiberglass shutters. The lesson from this customer is...don't expect a wood shutter when you order and pay for vinyl.
It is obvious from the company's response to this customer's complaint that they are not truly listening to what this customer is saying, nor do they care about satisfying this customer. The customer is saying that he made his purchase decision based on the photo of the raised panel vinyl shutters. The photo apparently showed that the joints did not overlap (as everyone would naturally expect), but the product he received DID overlap at the joints. In Wisconsin, we call that "bait and switch" (which is illegal!) I really had to laugh when I read the company's statement: "The lesson from this customer is...don't expect a wood shutter when you order and pay for vinyl." Seriously?! The customer was not expecting a wood shutter. He expected a vinyl shutter with normal jointery that "met" properly at the miter seam. This customer has every right to report that company to the BBB and other agencies, as well as take them to court. I am so glad that I read about this company before responding to their inquiry to me about working for them! They couldn't pay me enough to work for them! I hope this customer wins his battle on this one!
I also ordered the vinyl shutter. Wish I read this review first. It is cheap plastic, about the thickness of a credit card. Very flimsy. I asked to return the product (what company actually does not allow returns in today's internet retail world?) and was refused. Like the original poster, I was given the option to "upgrade" to a better shutter (although these flimsy ones were still $157/pair), but was not allowed to return for refund. Customer service rep had all the stock replies, but the bottom line is the company does NOT stand behind their products. - Phil Smith
