I bought a lifetime membership to this facility back in the 1990's. I just found out all the local facilities are closed and no other local gym will honor my purchased membership and will be required to just "eat the cost" from purchasing a lifetime membership. I refuse to sink anymore money in to yet another facility. There has to be a safety net for persons signing a contract and paying said contract IN FULL!
I purchased a lifetime membership from Fitness USA back in 1996. In the past couple of years they have been closing all of the locations in my immediate area. Now the closest facility is more than an hour away from where I live. This makes my membership useless because I am not driving that far to work out at a gym.
I agree. Isn't there something we can do to get our money back? I have searched the Internet and this was the only comment I found regarding the closing of all the gyms. I can't believe there aren't more people outraged at this and banding together to sue these thieves.
Now that all of the Fitness USA centers are closed, where are we "lifetime" members supposed to go or are we just #$%* out of luck? Is any other fitness center taking over?
I am in the same situation. Maybe a class action lawsuit would be a good place to start.
I have a life time membership and bought both my daughters a life time membership in 2006 now what ? I know I would like my money back I haven't gone in awhile because of the conditions of the club they kept saying they were going to remodel..

I joined fitness usa and paid for a lifetime membership which is not being honored because all the locations are closed. I think my money should be refunded.
Paid for lifetime membership and i am unable to use it because all the locations are closed down. I would like a refund of the money i paid.
Is there a clause in the original contract that states what would happen in a case like this?
Hi,
I'm so sorry to hear you have been a target of a scam. In a more ethical, remorseful world - people would care enough to refund your money in your misfortune. But it appears they'd prefer to take the money and run. Don't listen to Bexarsgirl - she's been corrupted by the money hungry system she represents. No clause in any contract can help you - they will always find a loop hole to hold onto your money in the end. That's what evil selfish people do who have big dollar signs in their eyes.
I'm sorry you have lost you money. Best of luck for the future. I will be more wary of memberships in the future after reading your comment.
Ok, I was genuinely curious if there was a clause in your contact regarding this type of situation. If there is, it might help guide you in figuring out where to go from here. I'm not sure where angryatflixjunky got the idea that I've been "corrupted by the money hungry system she(I) represents." I work in the fraud department of a bank. And yes, clauses can help you in certain situations. Of course, you can either take my word for it as someone who actually does this for a living, or listen to someone who makes erroneous and incorrect assumptions and generalized statements without knowing all the facts.
I also have a "lifetime membership ." I feel so cheated. I want my money back or another facility to honor our memberships. What can we do?
I am in the same situation and not happy. I have seen that other places will give a discount if you have proof of your fitness USA membership but of course I don't have anything anymore. Very irritated and I wish there was something that we could do.
I'm in the same boat purchase lifetime membership. How do we get a refund? Other gyms allowing us to use facility? Keep me in the loop. Thank you!
I am in the same position too purchased lifetime membership. Are we being refunded? Can we use other gyms? Keep me in the loop please. Thank you!
I also had a lifetime membership and was told I could pay forty dollars to transfer for one year to power house gym then Buy their membership are you serious. Paid off lifetime, membership and pay again now because they closed. The worse part is they probably open another gym in a new name and are going to do this again.
I purchased a LIFETIME MEMBERSHIP to Fitness USA for approximately $1, 500 back in 2007. Until recently, the only location that was open here in Southeast Michigan was the Taylor location. Now, that location has closed too. They have a moral and ethical responsibility to reimburse their customers; however, I don't see that happening. Does anyone know of a class action lawsuit currently in place? I need to add my name to the list.
A refund would be great, I bought the lifetime membership in 1998 lol thinking it would change my life, instead they all closed 🙃
