The generator I purchased from Central Maine Diesel does not run on gasoline as advertised and is missing 12v power output as advertised. Central Maine Diesel has made every attemp possible to deceive myself, the Better Business Bureau and the Credit Card Company on the warranty responsibility and related shipping charges. They have not abided to both Maine State Law and Federal law in regards to full disclosure requirements of their warranty. The wiring work performed on this generator by Central Maine Diesel is a nightmare, none of it is done to the electrical codes and is a fire hazard. Given all of the violations of law and defects I should, by law, be fully refunded all monies spent on this defective equipment.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
Central Maine Diesel has been in business since 2001 and has been a fully accredited business member of the Better Business Bureau since 2004. CMD has maintained an A+ business rating during this entire time. CMD is a leading manufacturer of custom built generator sets. CMD has sold, quite literally, tens of thousands of generators over the years. Many of CMD's customers are repeat sales and include purchases for heavy industrial usage, hospital applications, State and local government, fire districts, city municipalities and water districts as well as several large military contracts. CMD prides itself on its custom designs, hand built generators and innovative products. CMD provides product assistance before the sale as well as technical support after the sale. CMD warranties everything sold and works with local technicians in the customers area to service and/or repair any generator related issue. Central Maine Diesel paid, in full, for the initial diagnosis to this customers generator and provided the customer the opportunity to have it serviced locally under warranty conditions. The customer was also given the opportunity to return the unit to us for a full refund of the purchase price on two separate occasions. This offer is still available for the next thirty (30) days of this posting.
We purchased a CMD generator and found that the description did not match the product. In addition the starter switch (was supposed to be a secure "key " lock) malfunctioned and broke. Weeks later we are still unable to get a replacement or service. We find the CMD people to be very "smooth" with their promises and completely unreliable. It is not a good business to deal with and our generator is still unusable.
I know a Person that purchase a slow turning generator 6125 watt as advertised I am sure the caption slow turning sold him on this unit. after him bragging how good it was I took a look at it. what a Rip Off. The head itself says 3600 RPM. Just call me old fashion but 1800 rpm would be to me slow turning. not any where on the web page or print page tells you the RPM I feel these people took advantage of this guy. sold him a lie. and he has to live with it. again this is another reason to really look and read up on a company before you buy. its too bad he did not have any lawyer buddies. this would be a no brainer

Note: Mecc Alte agrees in the below link that the bolts were improperly;y torqued by their distributor. So why is Central Maine Diesel refusing replacement?

If I could give ZERO stars I would based on my overall experience. Purchased a $2800 generator that stopped working after only ONE WEEK. Two brands (Mecc Alte & Honda) you think you could trust but don't be FOOLED.
After many months of extensive run around, long support holds times, unanswered emails, finger pointing and empty promises now I'm stuck with a $2800 boat anchor. The company seems to blame it on everything except the rotation of the earth or their fault.
At the time of this Mecc Alte (via distributor CENTRAL MAINE DIESEL) review I exhausted conversations with the company. I was forced file a complaint with the BBB and feel I'm still getting the run around. It appears I'm left with no choice but to take my case to the Attorney's Generals office. Will keep you posted.
If you've had a similar experience I would love to hear from you. We can't let Mecc Alte CENTRAL MAINE DIESEL keep getting away with this.
Central Maine Diesel claimed the unit was damaged in shipping as they stated in their reply to my BBB complaint ID [protected]. Yet no insurance claim has been provided. If they are CHANGING their STORY I'm sure the Attorney General will find that an interesting WAY to AVOID WARRANTY REPLACEMENT. I took receipt of the product and it was not used for 2 months while the project was completed. Once completed the unit ran less than a week with no issues until the ALTERNATOR UNIT literally CAME OFF the Honda engine taking the muffler with it and experienced FULL & IMMEDIATE FAILURE. The unit was taken to McCoy's lawn care (Invoice 146) for service. McCoys was the first to call Central Maine Diesel and I know they did not start the generator again as I had the keys. McCoys had the unit in their warehouse for several months trying to work with Central Maine Diesel. During that time NO COMMERCIAL KINDNESS was offered or MY BROKEN ALTERNATOR would now work. INSTEAD McCoys said Central Maine Diesel was not willing to provide ANY OWNERSHIP and that McCoys would need to sell me a replacement ALTERNATOR from a TRUSTED supplier that STAND BEHIND WARRANTIES for $1200. I kindly PASSED and McCoys requested I pick up the unit. Next I took the unit to Fleet Maintenance of Austin. They suggested I ordered a bracket from Mecc Alte. INVOICE NUMBER 056226. So I pay the $88.00US and estimated hour labor, out of pocket for a WARRANTY ISSUE? WELL at least I FINALLY MIGHT have a working UNIT. WRONG AGAIN! Once they removed 4 bolts the ARMATURE would still not budge even with a MECHANICAL PULLER. Having the new bracket in hand they literally needed to pry the remaining pieces to remove the Armature. Hence the pieces you see in the final pictures. Once the Armature was removed Fleet Maintenance found EXTENSIVE HEAT DAMAGE done INTERNALLY to the unit. When I asked what COULD CAUSE this type of damage? They pointed to the MAIN BOLT SPINNING FREELY which caused the ARMATURE SHAFT to WELD itself to the DRIVE SHAFT. WELD I said? They explained how a MAIN BOLT moving freely on the generator shaft caused such HIGH TEMPERATURES which in their EMPHATIC opinion is the only way to cause this type of METAL FATIGUE. I'm BAFFLED how the average CONSUMER is supposed to see INTERNAL DAMAGE with a unit that lasted 10 HOURS? I'm curious as to the pictures that ALLOWEDI simply want Central Maine Diesel (Distributor) to SUCK up the $199 shipping cost and send me a new Alternator and Muffler! Mecc Alte to make this determination? Please note the last 4 pictures at the following link. I am happy to provide additional pictures if needed. http://s36.photobucket.com/user/kyle_keller1/library/... I simply want Central Maine Diesel (Distributor) to SUCK up the $199 shipping cost and send me a new Alternator and Muffler! And that Mecc Alte (Supplier) to STAND BEHIND your PRODUCTS!
We are getting a total "runaround" from CMD about a diesel generator that did not work even once. The first time we needed it, it ran for 15 minutes and powered down to nothing. CMD is listed as both in Hamden and Brewer and the phone lines seem to be connected (they pass you back and forth), and yet there is some sort of disavowal of connection between the two when the consumer needs answers or help. We were without power for 3 days in January 2016, and CMD could not have been less concerned. Would never do business with them again.

My wife and I bought the "slow turning" 6125 w Perkins generator in July of 2015. We are off grid so depend on the electricity it provides while we wait to install our solar panels. The slow turning and the fuel consumption were the selling points. What a complete nightmare. We didn't put it into service until mid September of 2015. In November of 2015 and after approx 400 hrs of run time it quit and was smoking from heat. The thing vibrates what I would consider excessive and caused the mounting brackets that attach the radiator to the upright frame to come loose. The brackets pounded into the radiator causing leaks. CMD replaced the radiator after about 2 weeks. I complained the excessive heat would shorten the engine life and I should expect it to be replaced but fell on deaf ears. This happened again a couple months ago and at this time I suggested they do something about the radiator mounting and the vibration component. They sent out a replacement radiator with an attempt at vibration dampening. The frame was twisted causing the radiator brackets to once again fail. I repaired this myself and shimmed things to put less stress on the brackets. so far so good. I purchased with my AMX card and am now pursuing a false advertising / marketing as they claim it to be slow turning. This unit is not slow turning as the engine winds up to about 3600 RPM. 1800 is considered slow turning. The vibration is excessive at this RPM and is causing self destruction. The hour meter was replaced initially as it was not working properly. QA is a major concern with this company and I will not recommend them and would actually encourage folks looking for a generator to go somewhere local for their purchase.
Wow, i wish i had read these first!
I purchased a $12k generator. They lied about lead time. took over a month when i told them it was urgent as my primary off grid generator had gone down. 3 years later the generator head died. I told them it was urgent that i get a new one. They quoted me and said they had it in stock and if i ordered by 10 am they could ship same day. I did so...three days later it had not shipped. I followed up to find out that they did no have it in stock. After calling and talking to bill it was clear that he lied and he didnt care that he lied or what position he had put me in. 10 days later i finally got the generator...it was the wrong one. I called bill, he told me its not his fault and that i just needed to modify the generator base--this would require blow torches, grinding and welding---I told him that that was not an option for me, he said "well what do you want me to do about it" I said, take it back and ship me the right one. He said he might be able to do that but i would have to pay the $250 shipping. This upset me, which he could hear in my voice, and rather than talking through it, he hung on me. I called him back, to give him a chance to do the right thing and he hung up on me again. Complete dishonesty. I run my own business, i know what it takes to do the right thing. Sometimes it costs you money, but you are dealing with human beings and fellow brothers. To make it right brings alot of grace in your life. To screw someone to save a dollar brings untold anguish and poor fortune. I'm doing my best to make sure eveyone knows what type of people run Central Maine Diesel so that they don't waste their money.
