I had Arlandis McClain as an advisor when I enrolled at Heald. I kept getting phone calls from the same phone number over and over. Frustrated, I finally answered and asked who it was that keeps calling me. He told me he was calling from Heald college. I said I wasn't that interested I was just on the internet checking out possibilites. He then asked me if I was looking for a job. I told him I was half heartedly looking for a job. He told me Heald had opportunities for students to work at Heald. I thought that would be a great opportunity. I could get an education and work at the same time.
When I first had a meeting with Arlandis I told him I was very interested in being a student employee. I was given a test to see if I was eliglbe to go to Heald, turns out I was (and so could anybody) then I was lead to financial aid. I didn't understand at the time that this was a very unethical practice. One should be speaking to financial aid before they take what turned out to be a placement test.
Arlandis also told me that the school was fully accredited and any credits that I accumlated at Heald could be transferred over. When I questioned that, because I was lead to believe differently, Arlandis assured me that they were fully accredited and not only that, but I would be a certified paralegal at the end of the program. Again I questioned that, and given assurance about being certified. As it turns out in our first quarter a couple of our teachers had informed us that we would have to take a test in Stockton in order to become certified. Anybody can take that test. If one were to work as a receptionist in a law firm without an education and felt they were knowlegeable they could take the cert test.
They also lied about all the help they would give as far as looking for work while being a student there, and graduates that would have a job lined up for them as soon as they graduate. Their excuse the whole time I was at the school for not having the resources they claim to have is that they are a new school. They didn't have any books in the LRC (Learning Resource Center). The ladies that worked in the LRC, although they were nice, they weren't very helpful to many of the students there. The type of help I would get from Ashley Love, the career services advisor were mass emails telling students they were hiring at Subway, and Taco Bell. They claimed to have contacts that hire exclusively from Heald because of their reputation. The job referals were nothing short of the career services department looking on craigs list, monster and possibly career builder. They claim to work with your schedule, however many students who signed up for daytime classes due to work and family, were getting classes in the afternoon. Sometimes they would work with a student on this, however it seemed to be a hassle, especially since they ask you what time you would like to attend classes when you first sign up for school. Classes ran for about 4 hours. For some classes we would go over the subject of the class for 2 hours, then the rest of the time was spent on chatting, and speaking about things that were off topic. The teachers can be nice, if you're looking for a friend. But on an academic level most of them were not very helpful at all.
From my experience at Heald, and I have many friends who have left Heald due to the same reasons, I would advise anybody to NOT GO TO SCHOOL THERE. I would stay away from any schools that give you promises that sound too good. Remember, if it sounds to good to be true then it probably is.
I too had Arlandis as an advisor and am glad to report that he is no longer an advisor there. There are many rumors regarding his departure, the one I found intresting is that he had a prospective student come in and he gave them the run around just as you described, and the person turned out to be an investigator.

over aggressive
I recently was interested in the Heald college in Modesto. My sister and my boy friend were as well. I made a phone call to them informing them that we were interested in the school and would like to make an appointment to check out the school and ask a couple questions. So we made an appointment with an advisor named arlandis. He sounded very nice and respectful over the phone and was glad we were interested in the school. So we made it fifteen minuets early to our appointment and saw arlandis. He explained some things about the school, why its a good school, and why we should attend it. We then went on to take the tour of the school with him. Towards the end of the tour he shows us the computer lab and asks us if we want to take the assessment test, when we had told him that we were only there to learn about the school to see if we wanted to go there. We then told him that we would like to make another appointment for that and he told us that the only way we would be able to talk to a financial aid advisor was if we were to take the test. Which was a lie because when we did decide to take the test and see a financial aid person she never once looked at our scores. Arlandis just wanted us to take the test to make sure we were able to pass the test to even be able to go to the school so that they didn't have to waist any time on student that weren't even smart enough to go to their school. So after we took the test arlandis then took us back to his office and had us sign a bunch of papers. He didn't even ask if we wanted to attend the school. So after signing a bunch of papers (which we shouldn't have even done) we got to talk to the financial aid person which showed us that the course we wanted (which was medical) was really expensive. Arlandis really pushed the school on us, he didn't even give us a chance to make up our minds. He really pressured us to sign papers and get everything done in a couple of days. He informed us that we should still take a look at other colleges but theres "none out there better than theirs". So at the end of our days of appointments with heald, arlandis told us that there were seats saved for us. So we went on to look at other colleges. We went to talk to kaplan which we didn't have to sign a single paper the first 2 appointments of talking to an advisor. We did the tour, found out some facts about the school, and didn't even have to talk to a financial aid person to find out how much our course cost. Were very satified with kaplan and sent arlandis an email telling him that we were no longer interested. His attitude from then on changed dramatically. He was very rude, slouched in his chair as if he were irritated. He started telling us all these bad things about kaplan. He then had one employee come in that had worked at kaplan before, Amanda. She then went on about how kalpan isn't good for us. Arlandis then had us write a letter stating why we weren't interested in the school anymore. We are now receiving many calls from different people from heald asking why we are not interested in attending their school. I then called arlandis to ask them to stop calling us and he again he was rude and said theres nothing he can do about it. I then asked him if we were enrolled anymore and he did this really rude laugh at me and told me we were never enrolled at "their school". He then said "all i can tell you is that your kaplan material" in a stupid way. I took that as an insult and asked him what was that supposed to mean, and he answered by saying i was going to kaplan. I wish we never went to talk to that school in the first place. ALL THEY ARE TRYING TO DO IS GET MONEY AND MAKE THEIR QUOTA.

Shout the hell up! People are here for valid reason, not to read your low life opinion. Get back to reading radoronline, tmz, and watching your reality shows.
Hi all,
I am currently going through the hiring process to become an Admissions Advisor at Heald College. Naturally, I like to do my research before committing myself to a company and came across these comments.
Two things I have learned for reading these comments:
1) I have definitely learned from your experiences on how NOT to act towards prospect students. It isn't about the money (they don't pay based on commission btw), but they do focus on "pushing" the importance of education. You contacted them because you wanted to make a better future for yourself, the advisors are there to help keep you focused on that path. Many people change their minds on a daily basis and its encouraged to remind you why you contacted them in the first place. Unfortunately, you all came across advisors that were way too pushy and way too personal on the matter. They should be encouraging, understanding, sympathize and above all, respectful of your choice.
2) (and this one you may come back at me at cause it's very blunt) You can tell them "take me off your list", its that simple. I have found that in this world (I have been on every side of business you can think of, customer service, buyer/purchaser, negotiator, trainer, ect) there are some out there who get somewhat of an excitement over drama. It is very natural. It is why most of our population watch dumb shows like Jersey Shore and all those random Housewives reality shows. But if you can't just step up and tell them "take me off your list" (and its illegal for them not too, once you've requested that) then you're just keeping that door open for those "pushy" advisors to keep bugging you. IF they DON'T take you off the list, contact an executive/head of the department...they do record these conversations and will regulate appropriately. Which, they screen their advisors on a BI-WEEKLY basis, so how these few are getting away acting as you said (without dramatizing the actually occurrence ;) is beyond me.
Anywho, hope you all will have better luck with them and others in the future. Just remember, once you've requested info about anything, expect people to "push" to give you that info until you tell them to stop.
I have submitted online application to learn about Heald College. It was 3 years ago. I got my first call from them and found out that the school is not for me. Since then I am getting calls from Heald college every week. Now their tone changed and they started to talk to me very rudely with upsetting tone as if it is my fault that I do not want to go to their school. Should I change my phone number or there is a place to where I can submit my complain? Please advise.
Something similar happened to me at Heald College in Stockton CA. Danica one of the advisors didn't really explain anything to me, I signed a bunch of papers, took the test, talked to financial aid, then me and my husband decided that it wasn't a good idea for me to attend since we were both unemployed. I gave Danica a call saying I was not going to be able to attend and her attitude changed completely with me, at first I thought she cared but really none of them do. All that Heald wants is your money! I felt like I was pressured to attend this school. They didn't even hive me time to even think about it when they were already giving me documents to sign. I also received a call from a lady there and she was really rude. She started out asking how I was and if I was excited to start school, after explaining my situation to her she started going off in a rude tone saying that we can work it out, that me and my husband should move in with my in- laws to save money. She also stated I was making a wrong decision, I had never talked to this lady ever and she was already judging me saying Im just being lazy. That I could go to school despite our financial issues. What? Hello I'm not going to get into debt with a miserable school who doesn't even care about me. Anyway that was my experience with them.
Possible False Info
Heald 'for-profit' college states on their website: "Because Heald is regionally accredited, it has articulation agreements with other regionally accredited institutions that accept Heald credits toward bachelor’s degree programs. This means that you can transfer your credits if you choose to pursue further education.*" Before a student enrolls at Heald they SHOULD check with four year accredited colleges first. Because I have found the above statement not to be true, at least for state four year colleges.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
This is claim is completely false. I know that Heald has an articulation agreement on file with the CSU Chancellor's office that allows graduates from their AA degree to enter at the same level as a community college graduate. You should check your facts before electing to bash a college with a solid reputation. In fact, I believe Heald is one of the oldest regionally accredited colleges in the state. It is hard to believe a school could stay in business for almost 150 years, let alone keep their accreditation, if your claim is true.
If you are having problems with articulating to other schools, I highly encourage you to contact the Heald academic affairs office or call the Student Help Line @ [protected]. They will do everything possible to help you with your situation, including contacting the receiving college to assist in resolving the issue.
Full time/Part time status
Recently, I've had a storm of issues with the Salinas Heald and their attention to details regarding Full-time/Part-time status.
So initially I got let go from temp work and decided to take up a new line of work: Medical Assisting. Since my income at my temp job was considerable, I didn't qualify for grants and had to go with loans. I was told by the financial aid person (who doesn't work there anymore) that I would be going part-time the first quarter, then full-time the rest of the way. Ok, sounds good so far. 2nd Quarter comes up, I was given full-time classes and assumed everything was normal and finished another quarter (.. normal except for a unprofessional English teacher by the name of Mr.Farson whose verbal abuse towards the class made "learning" a painful process). Third Quarter starts up and everything is going with a full-time schedule... until the 5th/6th quarter in. I got sent a number of emails (student and personal emails) and three phone calls (cell and home) by an individual named Ms. Pass who threatened that I would potentially be dropped from classes if I didn't stop by her office and resolve an issue. I couldn't help but panic a little bit and I headed back to school to figure things out. Apparently I wasn't supposed to get full-time coursework but, part-time and now I owe roughly $5, 000. I spent the next week trying to get it resolved and they couldn't (or didn't want to) do anything for me. The best thing they could do was trying to offset things and give me two quarters of part-time classes to offset this mistake.
I feel like my whole experience there has been lackluster and within this last week, I've heard about a few lawsuits brewing and I've read some of the other comments on here regarding credits not transferring to other schools?!?!? I was hoping to become an RN after Heald but this whole time at Heald may be for nothing?
I work so hard to be professional and keep really good grades but for what? I'm considering just leaving and trying to figure out a plan B. Suggestions?
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
Finish, complete, what you went there for and try not to get distracted. Once you get that done, let them facilitate you with a job. At that they say they are apparently good at, according to their track record. If you are looking to go to a four year college then you should start at a community college and then transfer over. You might be able to transfer over your associates degree you get at Heald to another specialized school, but first you have to find out which other school you want these credits to go into .
biased instructors and staff
Another thing that I forgot to add in the previous complaint "unprofessional IT instructor", if Heald College has the Financial Resources to establish new programs such as Construction Management, Pharmacy Technician and so on, why cannot they institute just one class covering Macintosh Computers? They don't have to invest in a dozen iMac Computers, but rather the Mac mini's.
Even though Mac's only account for 10% of the market, they are still very widely used in University Settings, Professionals, and other areas as well. Myself and other IT Students have asked that a Macintosh Class be taught (one class), however we get the same response as usual; "Research It !" Research will not always be of help nor a consistent guidance for those interested in learning about Mac's. There has to be actual hands on involved so the student can apply the knowledge that was received during lecture and assignments.
As far as I can tell, this well never happen since the IT Program Director at the Campus I attended is so very Anti-Mac Biased ! This is a very good example of an individual who is very arrogant, condescending, and not willing to be open to new areas of Technology.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
Id hate to say it but I partly agree with the instructor. As a student who is looking at heald and other colleges. I can already tell you there won't be classes catering to Macs because the entire Mac operating system is ALREADY ALL OVER THE INTERNET. For free. It's called Unix. Not many people in the real IT industry use Macs because they are not flexible for real UNIX TYPE APPLICATIONS. It is a pain to get them to work like actual Linux computers. Linux is therefore preferred since it just works. Doesn't cost money. And is basically the cousin of Mac. If you want to learn Macs. Do it yourself. Try FreeBSD. Its what Mac os x is based on. the other reason is you won't have any idea how to do anything with Unix until you've used Linux...
I attended Heald College from August 2011 to January 2012. Then I was confronted by an instructor and a campus supervisor at Heald College in Concord, CA who practiced reverse discrimination towards me on in the Medical Billing and Coding course. So I approached Academic Affairs in Concord, CA and found out the educational institution is not a student friendly environment. The upper management approaches issues in a very legalistic manner only to cover their backs. They do not care about the successful completion of the students.
Here is an example of my e mail I sent to the director of academic affairs and never received a verbal reply. I only received a letter saying I couldn't come back to learn anything again at Heald College.
My e mail to the director of Academic Affairs.
I apologize for not showing up to the planned meeting to discuss Ms. Young's extreme demeaning attitude towards as a student in the Health 101 and Health 102 course. An unfortunate event happened to me that landed me in the hospital and I was unable to make it to the meeting as we scheduled to address those concerns in a fair manner I expressed to you about in reference to Ms. Young's extreme undignified attitude while I was in the class.
I believe that Ms. Young has issues with certain individuals of a the white race who come to her class for instruction and she uses Ms. Barber to side with her in a way to make you think that Ms. Young does not have issues in her demeanor towards a certain select of students. Ms. Young and Ms. Barber are not being honest with you Mr. Kenny and are doing things on the Concord campus that your not aware of behind your back and are not being honest but very inappropriate when your not present to see how they are approaching issues Ms. Young has with her demeanor, attitude and characteristics Ms. Young displays towards students like myself.
Mr. Kenny I told you that Ms. Young was very hesitate to answer questions in class. I was approached with extreme hostile form of attitude a majority of the time when I tried to express myself, work with other students, ask questions in general related to the course material and move forward in class instruction to learn and finish class materials etc. But I was met with an extreme hesitance like Ms. Young was not going to share anything with me or answer any question honestly or share the correct method on purpose, but Ms. Young had a constant attitude like she was on a path to confuse me on purpose. Ms. Young had no patience whatsoever towards me and even yelled with a hasty smirk on her face like she enjoyed making me feel uncomfortable and intimidated me so I would be afraid to participate in class on any level to the point like Ms. Young had premeditated plan to make it impossible for me to pass the courses. Then during break she ran to retrieve Ms. Barber and lied to Ms. Barber both of which are an African American race then pulled me aside in a room where I was pushed against the wall with Ms. Young and Ms. Barber. Ms. Barber would ask me one thing and would not let me speak for myself while Ms. Young gave me rude looks of hatred towards me while Ms. Barber questioned me to the extreme and would not let me answer any question at all and I started to laugh at both of them, because I realized they were setting me up in a private room so they could cover for their own conveniences and get away with reverse discrimination towards me.
Mr. Kenny you have two employees Ms. Young and Ms. Barber who are not being honest with you, are hiding the truth to save their own backs. They are practicing reverse discrimination and did so behind your back and utilized preplanned methods away from your knowledge to get away with it and thwart the truth from you to make it seem like they did nothing whatsoever to cause such immature unprofessional-ism on the campus you manage and direct. Then when they did this they brought it to your attention at the last resort to make you believe them solely.
Mr. Kenny you have been duped by your employees Ms. Young and Ms. Barber and it is quite obvious they are on a path to single out certain people of a certain race like mine to get away with segregated education methods. Ms. Young clearly displayed a character that made me feel like she did not what to share the correct methods to show me the instructions at all then brought Ms. Barber in and thwarted a message to her first then Ms. Barber went along with Ms. Young.
I have been attended colleges and educational facilities for over 25 years. I have never experienced such immature pettiness from instructors in the many years I have studied. Furthermore I come from a long line of family members who are career instructors themselves. I have witnessed my family members work at Duke University, Iowa State University, New York University, vocational instructional institutions and on the nation wide public school system levels and never once did I witness such a demeanor where they displayed a character like they enjoyed confusing their students to the point of making sure they would not understand the course from the beginning to the end.
Mr. Kenny I think you are smarter that this and you should not allow this to happen to anyone from any race or ethnic back ground to happen to anyone. I'm clearly embarrassed, humiliated and have extreme anxiety over this whole ordeal. I think there needs to be some corrective measures on the campus part to make sure your campus instructors and course supervisors don't continue to do this on a continued basis in the near future.
If I was a director of a well know educational institution like Heald College I would be jumping out of my office chair in 2 point five seconds as a upper manager would utilize my authority to make sure the employees know that they should not abuse their positions in their place of employment and cheat their bosses into believing their unethical practices in a reputable college then protect the students on all levels with a public apology.
Sincerely,
A Heald College Student
I could not disagree with your statment anymore. The reason Heald doesn't offer Mac classes is the very same reason they don't offer Roman Architecture or a Poetry Degree program. There is no placement in those fields. As for Construction Management, the educational board is assuming construction will come back with a more eco friendly approach that will launch a new type of career within the industry starting a new housing boom after recession. I am sure Macs have their place, but Apple and companies that cater to their users do not automatically guarantee placement.Reality is that over 80% if not more of business are using Microsoft and PC. I would suggest moving over to San Francisco and see if you can find a MAC college there.
unprofessional IT Intstructor
During my attendance in 2009 at Heald College. For the Final for one of my classes, we were required to give an Oral Presentation on any topic that is geared towards our major, for mines it was on "Mac OS X Snow Leopard".
When I had completed my oral presentation and was leaving the classroom, one of the IT Instructors I had the previous quarter raised his arm and pointed his finger at me and began to ridicule at me in a very loud unprofessional manner on the Visual Aid ( iMac Box ) I had brought in. He was doing this right in the middle of the hallway in front of other students as well. He also continued to state on how Mac's / Apple Products are complete crap & sh**ty products, etc ...
I felt completely disrespected and got very offended as well! What kind of an a**hole IT instructor would have the guts to do this to a student ?
If you have an absolute major problem with a Student who is a Mac User:
1) you lack the knowledge nor even know a thing about Macs
2) you are a complete biased idiot!
3) you would rather enjoy insulting other Mac Users/making up your own facts and opinions about Apple products, in addition to encourage others to stay away from Mac's!
4) you used a Mac for 5 seconds then gave up!
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
Question...If you favor Macs and Apple Products so damn much...then why the hell are you even enrolled into a PC support program in the first place? Second, why the hell did you perform an oral presentation on an Apple product within a Windows I.T. class?! You could have chose anything to perform an oral presentation on regarding I.T. products and you choose MAC/APPLE?...LOL
I am interested in exactly what he said?
Too many variables omitted to be able to make an assessment.
Being an IT professional, it is easy to not like Macs with their security issues, stability problems, lack of interoperability, enterprise support and worst of all their backwards UI... but that neither here nor there without additional information
Expired Sodium Chloride
In our labs this past week we using expired 0.9% Sodium Chloride injections. We were not only injecting our fellow class mates but also outside volunteers. The expiration date was Dec 2006... This upsets me because now I wonder what if any harm it can do to you and also why was this inventory not disposed off on expiration. We have been taught in this very class that all medications have got to be destroyed. Why are there still bottles of sodium chloride still in the inventory 4 years after expiration date? The teacher was informed of the expiration date; she immediately removed everyone from the class room, gathered up all of the bottles and disappeared for 45 minutes. Upon return she advised us that this was not harmful and we would not experience anything from using this. In the real world this person, our instructor would have been fired on the spot. Nothing happened to her and I don’t even know if she was even reprimanded. This is a regulation of HIPPA and the FDA and something should have been done. I pay a lot of money to go to this school and I don’t feel safe any longer, and am appalled that this erroneous mistake could have even happened. Even if there is or was no danger, what would have happened if this was actually a drug being administered?
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
At least you guys don't have to deal with Miss Pegeuero anymore. She was a real piece of work, showing up 10-20 minutes late for class every day. Very unprofessional. BTW, I graduated with my AAS from Hayward in 2007 with a 3.95 GPA, and scored in the 94th percentile on the AAMA certification exam. I never made more than $12 an hour (we were told $15-16/hr to START) and was in fact unemployed for over a year. I'm now back in the semiconductor industry because the MA jobs are not as plentiful as I was told. Not that I wanted to be an MA forever... when I signed up for Heald in Oct 2005, I was told that they were being accredited by WASC the following January for an RN program. The enrollment advisor said that the currently enrolled MA students would be given first priority to apply for the RN program. Did it happen in January 2008? No. Every time I followed up during my two years, they had some excuse that it was rescheduled. Tell me... do they have one yet? WASTE OF MONEY.
im an actual student in this class. our teacher did everything right, she taught us to look at the medication exp date and we did accordingly. this was a fresh box that was brought out of storage. if someone is to blame it is the past instructors on not disposing of them correctly. this has really has me upset.
Looks like to me that your Instructor is trying to hide the evidence. If it were me, I would most definitely report this to the Health Department!
Unethical Practices with students and security
i have been a student at heald college for over a year now and have come to realize that the school is very money oriented. not just through admissions. about 8 months ago there was an admissions advisor who was "let go" his name is michael macneill. he is the person who puts on the central coast throwdown mixed martial arts fights located at a local high...

As of 2009, Heald College was purchased by Corinthian Colleges Inc, and they are now a for-profit institution.
The main objective with a for-profit college is to make money $$$$$ and alot of it! And all of that money is being drawn out from us, the students. Rather than using that money in improving on the quality of an education that a student recieves, in the for-profits perspective, they would rather use that money in funding the pockets of their shareholders!
The tution they charge at this school is very expensive as well!
An AAS Associate of Applied Science Degree at Heald, costs between $18, 000 to $20, 000 depending on which program you enroll in. This degree is not considered nor does it qualify as a legitimate/valid degree. The coursework units that you take towards an AAS Degree are not transferable to any Traditional Community College. This degree does not have the same Academic Level/Rigor as that of an Associates Degree at a Traditional Community College.
An AA Associate of Arts Degree at Heald, costs between $9, 000 to $10, 000 for 6 months of General Education Classses at an Accelerated Pace. This degree is considered a legitimate/valid degree and is transferable to certain CSU & UC Campuses in the State of California, and Hawaii Pacific University / University of Hawaii in Oahu.
Heald College is in the process of establishing a Bachelors Degree Program. However, in my own personal view, pursuing your Bachelors at a Traditional University is the way to go. A for-profit degree in most cases, is not widely accepted by Employers! If you were to decide to pursue your Bachelors at a for-profit institution, then decide later on to get your Masters at a Traditional University, it is highly unlikely that your units will transfer!
If you are planning on continuing your education at a for-profit institution, talk to other students who are currently attending or have graduated and get their perspective on things. Because once you walk through that door, Admission Reps will do all that they can to get you in! They have a quota to meet, and need to fufill their recruiting line needs. An Admissions Rep see's a prospective student as $$$$$$, you are profit to them!
- do not sign anything! If you are being pressured into signing a contract immediately, Leave Right Away!
- As a student you have the right to request financial aid information on the Degree Program Cost. If they choose not to disclose this information into you, they are in violation of Federal Regulations.
- Paying Point, is a very common tactic that Admissions Reps use to draw students in, for example; " do you want to be stuck working at this place your entire life? I thought the reason why you came in today was because you wanted to make a change in your life! Do you want to change your life? yes or no? "
- in addition to the Paying Point tactic, Admissions Reps are trained very well into seeing what is bothering you. Do not fall for this!
@ EricMathew, I do acknowledge and agree with you on the articulation transfer agreements with CSU & UC's
If Heald is WASC accredited, then why is it that some Admission Reps are still telling prospective students that the courses they take towards an AAS Degree are transferable to a Traditional Community College, when in reality they are not accepted ? I graduated with my AAS the other year, and before signing up an admissions rep told me that all of the coursework I take towards an AAS are transferable to a regular Community College. I was extremely disappointed upon completion of my AAS that my units were not transferable!

Heald was wrongfully shut down, an educational establishment around for over 160 years. Corinthian College inc. knew Heald college was a gold mind. You all want facts, look deeper into the story, join us on Facebook as we destroy all those that destroyed our dreams. #healdstrong #votenokamalaharris so many had so much to gain throughout the years beginning in November 2009, when transaction was complete. YOU WANT THE TRUTH, HEAR US SPEAK!
I do not attend this school anymore. I graduated in Jan. of this year. And I think that you need to find you another school, because Heald is a bad school. This school have left a bad scar in so many students life including mine. I am currently enrolled at Humphreys College and this school is best I have heard from other students that have been going there for 2 years already.. This school is the best yet thus far.. But I totally agree with you about stupid Heald College..
The financial aid office will lie to you be very careful, get every thing in writing. I started school about 2months ago, my schooling was all paid for through my GI bill. But in order for me to be able to pay rent while going to school I took out a student loan that they talked me into taking out so that I could start a few months early. They told me that I would receive the first amount in may the second amount in July and the third amount in Oct. well it is now July and well I have received nothing and now about ready to loss the place that I am renting. It turns out that they had not even turned in my paper work. Then once I had hounded them enough they finally did, but told me that it was held up on the loans end. So I called the place I was going to be getting the loan from and they let me no that the money had already been given to the school. So of course I then went to the school to figure out what was going on. That is when they told me they did not have the money, then back tracked and said that it has to go through a bunch of people before they can give it to me. Then I asked well can you call them e-mail them any thing, there reply they will get to it when they can. Down side to all of this my GI Bill already paid my tuition and there is nothing I can do. Either way I have a student loan that I cant get the money, a school that I am not learning any thing at and there is nothing I can do about it. So please save your self the time and energy and find a school other then heald its well worth your time to find any where else. Once they have your money they don’t feel the need to help you any more so be aware of this.
@Mike, many people think accreditation has something to do with academic rigor. It does not. As the WASC (ACCJC) states, "Accreditation is a voluntary system of self regulation..." The school tells the accrediting association that it plans to do certain things, and keeps those goals extremely vague. For example, the school might say a goal is to teach "critical thinking." It writes out what its plans are to do this (giving assignment X), and keeps a record of having done this. So, the fact that a school is accredited has little bearing on how well it educates. Before selecting a school, students should do research by a) talking with students and alumni, b) talking with employers in the desired program c) researching on the net. Keep in mind that sites like this are going to skew negative. More general reviews sites are probably going to skew to both ends: people who loved their education and people who hated it, with little in between. Good luck in your further studies.
It is clear that Heald is getting over on every student.. And this is not misinformation that I am putting out here (about HEALD), only I know what HEALD did to my account as myself being a student at this school..and I graduate this quarter while you think you know everything.. They are making a profit, THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR TIME..
It's clear you are angry about Heald for some reason, but I need to correct the misinformation you put out there. Before I do so, I encourage you to contact the student/graduate help line @ [protected] to resolve whatever is ailing you.
Heald is accredited by the exact same accreditor as the California Community College system.
Heald has numerous articulation agreements which can be found here: http://www.heald.edu/about/accreditation
This is correct information, because I attend Heald right now.

Scam on Student Loans
If you want to be a victim of (scam) attend Heald College.. This is the worst school. The instructors try to act like they know every damn thing and don't know more than I know. Some of the staff, graduated at Heald, and they act like they ### just finished up in kindergarten and first grade. Financial Aid is not about bull ###, everyone that goes to heald here in Stockton, ca we should get together and help get this school closed down, because this school should not be in session..They talking about GET IN, GET OUT, GET AHEAD...Yeah right, GET IN, GET OUT, GET BROKE WHEN YOU'RE DONE, with this ### ### school..
I attended Heald College in Stockton and just graduated 2 weeks ago. The checklist they give you that is mandatory to walk in the ceremony was just the beginning of a disaster, other than me choosing to attend Heald. My student ledger said I owed the school $1300 no big deal so I spoke with the director of financial aid and she was going to get another part of my loan to cover it...so my checklist was complete and I graduated. 2 weeks later I get an email asking me to login to my student portal and it now says I owe over $3, 000 to the school. Trying to get my pharmacy paperwork stamped by the school and having this money owed to the school was not going to happen. I emailed my career advisor who came to my rescue after I called financial aid to speak with the director who was supoosedly out sick...she called me 3 hours later from the school so the person I spoke to lied to me. She told me not to worry, she had gotten documentation from my lenders to cover the $3, 000 I owed and I would be getting a pretty big reimbursement check. I looked at my student loan account on Friday and it said I owed $21K, I checked yesterday and it said I only owed $15K. They really need to get their paperwork straight. They lost all of my extern paperwork so it is a good thing I made copies and was able to resubmit those. I finished the program in 15 months as I had units transfer from another college and it is WAY more expensive than what they had initially explained to me once I enrolled. Anyone else having problems? I have someone going over all of my ledgers and I have already spoken to an attorney. I will be headed down to the school tomorrow to get some answers. If you want to waste money at a school where they lose paperwork and give you the runaround...then attend Heald College. I told them at my exit interview with an admissions advisor that I would never refer anyone to attend this school which made her mad, but it is the truth. Do not go to HEALD! After reading these posts, it should detour you to look around at other schools. I wish I had shopped around first.
All spelling errors and all that aside Heald was the biggest, and worst, mistake I ever made. I have never made close to what I was told I would make using their education. I borrowed $15K and owe more than double because I cannot make even the minimum consolidated payment and have to defer which the loan holders are only happy to grant. You cannot easily discharge this kind of debt so don't be a [censored] like me and make better choices for your education.
To Intelligent Person - kindergarden = kindergarten, scholl = school. I think you need to hone your spelling skills... for starters!
This person first needs to get through kindergarden first and then grammar scholl to hone his spelling and grammar skills...for starters!
They lied to me
I attended the Oakland, CA Heald College (now closed) campus in [protected] and graduated with an AA in Legal Office Administration. I went right out of high school not knowing what I wanted to do so Heald sounded like the best option at the time. I was told before I applied that the credits are transferable to other colleges and universities. I didn't think to do further research and in 1996, there were no online sources. I took their word on it.
Attending Heald was almost like attending Jr. High - except I was paying for it. Many of the students (though older than I was) were very immature and wasn't serious about attending and getting the work done. Once you focus and ignore that, you can get though. When I graduated, I was employed soon after I received my degree. Working in the San Francisco Bay Area during the dot com era landed me many well-paying jobs as an administrative, executive and personal assistant. During the time I was unemployed, I always had temp and contract work lined up. There were a few periods where there wasn't much, but many others were suffering.
I honestly don't think my $11, 000 degree from Heald put me at a better advantage than someone who had some of the same skills I had - but it was something.
Fast forward to 2010, I realize that its about time that I complete a Bachelors degree. When I made an inquiry at my local state college, I was told that my credits from Heald are not transferable. What? All this time, all these years, I was thinking that I can just transfer my credits and complete and undergrad degree in a couple of years. They are willing to give me a few credits (a quarter), but that's it. I guess one quarters worth is better than nothing.
My advise to anyone considering Heald: Think about what you might want to do long-term. If you only care about being an assistant or technician for the rest of your life, fine (but I think you should go to a community college). But if you eventually want to earn a undergrad and beyond, please don't waste your time and MONEY. Go to a community college and work your way up if you need to. I wish I had.
I attened Heald in Oakland before they closed. I moved to another state, so I didn't get to utilize there services, however I did continue my education and I was able to use my credits towards the college I'm going to. So I guess it depends on the college your going to. However on the flip side, I am having the dernest time verifying there accrediation for my job.
Thank you for responding back..
this may help you

This a list of schools that are member of the same accreditation
http://www.wascsenior.org/directory
If you tried to apply at a different school without the WASC accreditation then that school may or may not accept transfer credits from HEALD it just depends on which four year school you want to go to.
These are the list of regional accrediting agencies that are recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
http://www2.ed.gov/admins/finaid/accred/accreditation_pg6.html
If HEALD is not an accredited school like they claim to be. Then hire a lawyer and report them to U.S. Department of Education.
Hello, how are you? Yes, I attend the Heald College here in Stockton, CA. I wished I would have done my research before attending this school. I have never seen so many staff members, don't know what they are doing and when you need some information you have to make an appointment (none of the students should not have to make an appointment to be seen for information that they are paying for). This school sucks really bad..
student loan
August 2008 i decided to go to school, i went over to Heald College, speaking with the financial aid adviser i told him i would like to apply for a grant to pay for my education. he manipulated the form where i would not be eligible for a grant and applied me for stafford loan instead. with a grace period to decide if Heald was the school for me.. I went to...

I have been with Heald College for over a year. My first quarter with them was HORRIBLE! Everyone there gave me wrong information! They call you all of the time when you miss class and speak to you as if you are their children. This school is horrible and have some of the rudest people I have ever met working for them. Dont go to this school, please! I encourage you to find another school.
Yes, very rude people. I go to one here in Stockton, CA and they are so rude, they act like they don't know what is going with your student loans and stuff like that. I dislike the people at this school, it is a shame we have to get on here and write about the school, that we thought that our credits were transferable but they are not.. GET IN, GET OUT AND TRY TO FIND ANOTHER SCHOOL..This school is not about ###..
Harassesed by the staff, no job placement, threaten they would take legal action against me
Heald College is very unprofessioal, they have low opinions about students. I graduated from Heald College in 2008 at the Rancho campus, I never recieved assistance in job placement. Even after I brought it up their attention. I transferred to the Roseville campus, (huge mistake). I wanted to get a degree in the Criminal Justice program. In November 2009 I...

I am a retire college professor from a State accredit college. After I retire I taught two quarters at Heald "College". I quit after two quarters; the eduction quality is a joke at best. The cost to attend is outrageous -Heald charges more per year than the U C system charges. What Heald is stating that the units the students have taken at Heald will transfer to a State accredit college is 'iffy' at best. One thing Heald is an expert in doing is getting student loans. Why the government has not shut them down is beyond me.
@yll, That was a real professor that wrote that you dumb ###.. I really doubt you are even a professor from Sate accredit college.
total and completely there with you on that
Professor123, I doubt that you are a retired professor. If you were, you wouldn't have written, "I am a retire college professor from a State accredit college." Heald has plenty of real problems. It doesn't need an impersonator to make up claims. If you are a student or former student, then you should come clean and tell your actual opinion.
Educator4life, the things you say about the recruited students are true.
I agree completely. Everything this person says is exactly true. They exist "for profit" and suck the government's teats, taking advantage of the system. They recruit "students" that haven't a chance of graduating...homeless, parolees, mentally challenged...all for the aim of getting the financial aid the government so foolishly subsidizes...they should be shut down...indeed, what a scam...
Kicked out of Heald
I have been a student at Heald College since January 2007. Two weeks ago the new Quarter began and I had my classes and all. I go to the office to change my major, and they said I no longer qualify to be a student at Heald and they kicked me out of school! I just recently had a baby and was taking my classes online. I ended up being hospitalized after I had my baby because I ended up getting a disorder called toxemia and it can be fatal if not properly treated. The bad part about that is you can get it during pregnancy, but I got it after which is highly rare. Heald wanted me to contact them when it was time for me to have the baby because I was taking 3 online classes. I contacted them, and I also emailed them when I got home to let my instructors know what had happened to me. I failed my classed because of my hospitalization. So also in the past I got dropped twice for health reasons and they knew it. So since this has all happened, I got kicked out and was 5 monthhs away from getting my AAS degree. I am so angry! Now I owe 20, 000 that I don't have and no degree, and no job! I am angry. They are one big scam.

ProfToodie, wow so negative. What the hell did Heald do to you? Hire you on for a semester, then fire you because you made the mistake in trying to actually teach? I agree with you as far as the 5th grade reading level b.s. The first English book I received, I asked the teacher if this was actually "college material" because I didn't believe it. The problem isn't Welfare thinking, it's the lies that they give you constantly on the T.V., or the "advisors" which are nothing more than sales people. And then when you further question, the teachers will of course back up the claims. The biggest problem I see here is that people are swept in as soon as they enter the salesfloor, and they don't have a chance to breath until you are completely caught up in the garbage. Heald lies. They lie to you when you walk in the door, they lie to you in the class room, they lie to you when you talk to anybody in administration. The only time one will figure out that it's a scam is when all the lies don't add up, and they research at home, "Heald Scam", or "Heald Complaints". Seriously people, go to a Jr. college in your community. Don't waste any time or money at Heald. You are only cheating yourself on every level if you give them the time of day.
Here is news for you- Heald teaches courses that are on a fifth grade reading level. I know this because I used to teach there. The average Heald student can't read or write better than their ten year old cousin... from Vietnam. I had 38 year old white people (meaning not from ESL classes) that made the cast of Jersey Shore look like goddamn MIT students. Your problem is you are dumb enough to think Heald is a real college. It is not. It is not even a real community college. It's ###ing high school with ashtrays. It's fairly easy to tell where you fit in- single mom that will bus tables at Denny's on the graveyard shift for the rest of your life. Grow up. Heald is a business. Of course it is all about the money. You think if you go to Harvard, they will let you stay if you don't pay your bill? That's typical welfare mom way of thinking. No one owes you ###.
All I can say is Heald College sucks they just take as much money as they can, and when the your student loans funds run our. Heald College will drop you. Please don't go to Heald College, they will take your money its all about the money, if your lucky you will get a $10 to $12 Dollar job.
You're an idiot Joanna. You only realized how expensive Heald is after talking to your aunt? Pathetic. You deserve to get ripped off. Accept some responsibility for yourself instead of blaming the college.
It wouldn't make any difference if you went to Heald or Harvard with your [censor] attitude. Stay the [censor] away from me.
i heald college too the one in S.F
I also whent to Heald College in Concord, California. At first I liked it alot. My first classes during the first trimester were good. To be honest, the school was a nice enviroment and the staff was really nice. I had lots of fun their. Not untill the time when i got pregnant. As my belly started to grow i started getting lazier and lazier to drive to school every Monday to Thursday. So i asked my teacher Josh Goodson to put me online. I did and i was very successful online. While my due date came by my aunt braught up her college, University Of Phoenix. She was telling me how the campus was closer than Concord (I live in Vacaville), and they dont have to pay for books. She also told me how much her classes were worth, and they were the SAME PRICE AS MINE. My aunt, is studying for her BACHELORS in Human Services. She has now graduated!
This is when i relized how much Ive been paying at Heald for my ASSOCIATES. Which isnt worth anything.
They seriously charge so much for nothing. Dont ever go their. And something else i have to complain about is their schedual for classes. I hated the fact that i had school almost every day! . You're better off at a four year college. I am now going to University of Phoenix. AND I LOVE IT! Im going to my Bachelors in Elementary Education. And i go to class once a week. And their work and classes are serious on your education. I love it!
Hello to everyone in here who have been victimized by Heald. I also atteded Heald in 2006 and didn't finish due to a big misunderstandings and confusion by all staff from Heald. I am not going to go through the whole story because it just angers me to much. All I can say is that now I owe over $2, 000 and they are now in collection. I did exit Heald not owing them a dime and all my loans where through Citi Bank. How did they come up with me owing them over $2, 000?
I am going to talk to a lawyer and will like for your support, if anyone here would like to join me and get answers please email me at mailforyou_719@yahoo.com. I appreciate it and God bless.
Lifetime Career Placement
I decided to take Heald College up on their offer of lifetime career placement for alumni. What a joke! First the Heald location couldn't help me because they didn't offer my "program" at the school and I was advised to go to another Heald location. I wondered why this wasn't brought up during my e-mail communication with the placement counselor? Hmmm. Why don't they network their placement system for maximum coverage? The current "system" sounds very antiquated to me. Then the career "counselor" said to me "you send your resume out like this" Emphasis on the words "like" and "this." She then told me that I was doing something wrong if I wasn't getting responses to my resume. HELLO. I honestly wondered if this 21 year old "career counselor" (no offense to 21 year olds) was sticking her head in the sand. California has one of the highest unemployment rates in the nation. This girl was out of touch.
I have an outstanding resume that has been critiqued by career placement professionals. There is no way this "career counselor" was going to tell ME what's what about my resume.
Looking for a job during a recession is very frustrating, but I don't need "professionals" (and I use that word loosely) at Heald College being unhelpful and condescending.

Tigchicken--your not the only one. I just graduated Oct 2 and am still fighting to get my loans for the last 2 quarters. I finally got hold of a girl named Ryan at the Admin office in San Francisco and told her all I keep getting is that it is being processed, blah blah blah. She asked if I talked to the Director of Financial aid and I told her she only communicates through emails. Ryan called her and 30 mins later I get a phone call saying the processing center packaged me for another quarter and she will email them to go ahead and disperse my funds and cut me a check. This is after the director told me she put in a rush request 3 weeks ago for my funds. Guess what, she has been gone the last to days, So guess who I am calling again...Ryan.
I have been having a problem with my financial aid for the past 5 quarters at the roseville campus. We are almost finished with the July 2012 quarter and I still don't have my financial aid package approved. I am wondering what to do, I am getting no answers from any one Can someone please help?
I am still jobless and looking all on my own. I forgot to mention this
I attended Heald College in Roseville, CA and I informed my career advisor that I was moving to Portland, OR. I was hopeful that she would know anything about contacting the school in Portland, but said that there was nothing she could do and good luck. Honestly, the only thing that she would fo for us is to send us job openings outlined like monster.com or let us know that work that was open we were not qualified for, but just a head's up. I then contacted the Portland campus and had some talkings with them while I was in California, but when I moved up here to Portland I emailed three people once or twice, but no response. The commercials need to stop and there should be some kind of compensation for us like not paying our student loans and paying a year compensation of what we could make in the job we went to school for.
I'm in my 4th term as student and I was told by the financial aid office that I owe them 1700 in student loan. They want me to pay it ASAP! I was told by my admissions conselor that I'll pay the loans 6 mons. after graduation! What a scam!
Heald is not respected. Don't waste your time or money. As for the accountability guy I bet you ten to one he or she works for heald. I hope the students they con bring a class action law suit against them and win. HEALD IS A SCAM.
False Information
Heald College is a joke! After attending school for three quarters and 10, 000 dollars worth of debt, I have come to the conclusion that i have once again sucked into a scheme. The advisers are really nice when you go and sign up they act like they care, shame on me for falling for this one. EVERYONE COME FOR FREE DAY CARE is what should be in front of the...

To whom it may concern: My name is Tishay Wright. I am a student at Heald Business College, in Hayward. I joined Heald back in July of 2008. My area of study is Administration with emphasis on Accounting. When I decided to go to Heald I was really excited about it. I couldn’t wait to hear what the teachers were going to be teaching. I was even excited about meeting new people. Unfortunately, my first week of school was very disappointing. I have a teacher, who doesn’t teach. He wants to talk about politics and tell the class who to vote for in year’s election. Before beginning the class, Mr. Lodgson, told the class: “I know that African Americans are excited about an African American running for president, but please keep in mind that McCain has served this country.” By half the class being African Americans and the other Hispanic we were pretty pissed by his statement. I also have a grandfather who has served this country. He’s a survivor of Pearl Harbor; I asked him should he run for president also? Where I come from politics is something that stays within the household. Heald is so used to students fresh out of high school; who don’t realize or pay attention to allot of things. They don’t know how to treat us as we are: adults. They feel they need to have a hip relationship with the students, in order to fit in, saying wuss up; which is a hip phrase for saying hello. In the hallways, giving high fives, at times they even try to dress like the students. News flash; there not meant to fit in, but to teach. My education is very, very, important to me. Weather I’m fresh out of high school or not, which I’m not. I have been talked down to by the Director of Academic Affairs. I have been told that men who know how to coordinate their clothes are gay, by the same teacher who tried telling us who to vote for. I have been forced to do a survey on a teacher, who has never taught me. I have been threatened by the Enrollment Director; who called me out of class, during finals to take a test. A test that was not that important, it was just that staff forgot to have me take it when I got enrolled. She told me if did not take it I would be kicked out of school. I asked could it be taken after class, she said no. It had to be done now. I told her I wasn’t doing it now because I was testing and I walked away. She gives me dirty looks in the hallway now. I have an issue with my skin where as I need to wear cotton clothing. My doctor has given the school notice in regards to my situation and that they can contact her with any questions or concerns. The LRC (learning recreation center) teacher knows my condition; he was the first to know of it. He asks that I don’t come in the LRC if I have on jeans. So I can’t study and receive help if I need to. I was a straight “A” student, but that has changed. The classrooms are so disruptive it’s ridiculous. They have received so many complaints do to the noisiness. I have tried talking to my teacher, but it doesn’t help. I went to the Director of Academics who told me they can find quiet spots for me to work. That’s unfair to me and the others who are going through this. To top it off they have pushed me through Algebra this quarter. I have not attended algebra more than five times. I have never stayed in for a full class. I have been so stressed out behind getting put out of my Accounting class, which I couldn’t focus on it. I already don’t know too much about it and wasn’t able to focus due to the stress. My teacher says at a “B” average, which is impossible. I have never turned in one assignment. They have lied about my grade, because in order for funding to continue students need to keep a 2.0 grade average. Teachers are given answers to exams and lying about homework turned in. I am afraid for my education at this point. Right now my concern is with me and my education I’m trying to receive. I have been taking out of classes because that’s there way of resolving the issue. By them doing this, it has set back my graduation date. I have goals that I am trying to reach. There isn’t another school in Hayward that I can attend, but Chabot Community College. I am already in my fourth quarter at Heald, which is a private school. So, it doesn’t operate like Chabot does. I have even tried talking to corporate, Buck Garrett, the President of Academic Affairs. He answer wasn’t any help either. He wants to justify the situation, not even talk about it. There is so much more. I want to sue the school for Harassment and Emotional Distress. I am writing to you for help with finding an attorney that can help me sue my school.
Thank you,
Tishay Wright

Hi, my name is Leslie, I am attending the Heald here in Stockton, CA, I know I am getting back with you so late, but I understand what you went through with this school, because I am going through the same thing. So did you ever sue this school or have you graduated and moved on to another school.. Let me know because I have problems with this school as well..
