I payed R2318.80 for 4 nights (Sept 3 to 6 2023) at Knysna Inn on 30.07.23. On 03.08.23 I notified the establishment that I would possibly cancel, as alternative accomodation would be available at no additional cost. There is no mention on the website of a zero refund policy, but I was told no refund would be done if the booking was cancelled less than 60 days in advance. I sent two messages advising them that charging full price when no service was given was unetbical, and urging them to reconsider their stance. Ultimately, I sought the advice of a legal colleague, and advised the Inn that I would be cancelling on principle as I took exception to their unethical practices. I further stated that I would document the interaction and take the issue before all the relevant social and legal structures.
No attempt at a refund has been made. I have been accused of abuse and "threats", yet all I have done is highlight the error of refusing to refund all or a large part of the funds. I note with interest from other reviews about this establishment that refunds have been similarly refused to other clients previously.
I would like to know what redress is available to me in this situation. This practice is daylight robbery, and consumers deserve some protection against any business operating like this.
Desired outcome: Refund of all or majority of the full payment made.
