Mvelopes review: Trying to Scam Me into Having Access to PayPal 1

I don't know what is going on. All I wanted to do is to add my PayPal account so that it automatically updates the transactions in Mvelopes.

I opened an Mvelopes account today, on August 21, 2015. I have the free account right now, because I want to see how it works before I pay.

I correctly entered my username (my email) and password, and I got Error Code 108: "Unable to add accounts. It looks like there is a prompt at the financial institution's web site that requires your attention. Please login and respond to PayPal request then come back and try again."

Seemed simple enough. I logged in directly on the PayPal website, but didn't see any prompt. Originally I tried on Chrome. Then on Internet Explorer and Firefox. Still no prompt.

I spoke with "Oscar" during live chat. He tells that he spoke with the "engineers" and they said that it had to do with PayPal thinking I'm signing in from another computer and it's sending a verification code either through email or phone. He said I need to add some 1-800 number to my account, and some Mvelopes email to my account. Well. This obviously set off red flags.

I called PayPal, and right away, they told me not to do this. They said that the purpose of adding a phone number or email is so that you can sign in with different credentials. So this would essentially allow some dude at Mvelopes to sign in to my PayPal (right on the paypal.com website) and have full access (either via email or phone number). Just as I thought.

I told Oscar this, and he insisted that this is what I need to do. So I just disconnected the chat with him, hoping it was some sketchy tech rep from mvelopes. I began speaking with another rep named "Conan, " who then told me the same information as "Oscar" and said that this is what the engineers said.

This is crazy. Is Mvelopes even to be trusted? Can someone (who knows what they're doing) from Mvelopes please resolve this issue? I am interested in paying the yearly membership, but NOT if Mvelopes is truly scammy.

Furthermore, I wanted to point out that PayPal said that there were no attempts or rejects on login. No verification codes being sent out. The lady I spoke with from PayPal simply said there were successfully logins only (and those were me logging in from browsers). PayPal doesn't ask for verification every time you log in from a different device or IP address.

Hi Sarah.

I'm so sorry you had a bad experience with the Mvelopes support team. I can assure you that not only are we legit, but have been operating since 2000 and are fanatical about helping you to reach your financial goals. The process of fixing a data connection can sometimes require working closely with a client to address issues more quickly. The team did not handle your case correctly and will be trained appropriately.
I hope you come back and give us another try. Reach out to me on Linkedin at https://www.linkedin.com/in/nicholasathomas if you are interested in chatting more. I'd love to have a chat.

Best,
Nick
