James Monroe in accounting department is threatening me to put a lien on my house if I did not pay $1550. I did not cancel my contract but he still wants to charge $750 for contract cancellation fee. I DID NOT initiate the chargeback on my credit card. My credit card company made a mistake and they have corrected it once James Monroe informed me about it. NHP has received the money but James Monroe still wants to cancel my contract without my approval. Here is the email from him:

I agree, don't have anything to do with this company. Been waiting for over 4 months for them to replace my stove and microwave. Stll get it's going to be 2-12 weeks., It's on back order.

It would be better to throw your money in the fireplace and burn it, than purchase a warrenty from National Home Protection.

I paid for a 5 year plan. I never received my 5 Home Depot Gift Cards. I sent an email to Disputes - which said to fax the attached form (I did that on the 28th of February, 2008. Ironically, their email said they would then "expedite" my cards.

I want to cancel but don't know who to write to.

National Home Protection is nothing but a shell company with a website only I am convinced. They collect fees and provide abysmal, IF ANY 'service'. They are almost entirely unresponsive, not only to there 'alleged customers', but to the service providers they contract with. They are unprofessional, unresponsive and operate without any decent business practices. It's sad to see the number of people adversely affected by this company, hopefully all of these incredibly similar complaints documented will help keep people from doing business with such an unethical company. Hopefully the NY Attorney General's office will pursuit justice for consumers.

I am sorry to hear about all the bad experiences with this company. I am shopping for a warranty company and the information you all have provided will spare me and countless others from having to go through what you all have been enduring.

THANK YOU.

Here I thought I was doing a smart thing by getting a home warranty plan only to have the first problem I encounter be "rejected" as not being covered. The policy may actually state that in legalese, but the way I read it my issue should be covered. Never mind that they didn't advise me of this when I called the first time to file the claim - or the second time when I called to get the name of the plumber to whom my claim had been referred. Only when I called back the third time to tell them that the plumber to whom they allegedly assigned my claim says he won't do work for National Home Protection any more was I told by the CSR that my problem wasn't covered...

Next time I google the company before I buy, not after I encounter a problem. Stupid me.

They are the worst company I have ever had to deal with. They have yet to make one repair at my house. there is never a supervisor. I have left over 2 dozen messages and have not recieved one phone call from them. I agree with the gentleman that said throwing your money in the furnace is better than purchasing a home warranty from this company.

I agree with this comment. We are a Heating and Air Contractor who has recently signed up with National Home Protection to provide service to their customers. We have completed approximately 10 calls for NHP and the majority of the repairs were not covered due to "pre-existing conditions". We did not do our homework on this company prior to enrolling with them and will no longer be accepting service calls through them. We have yet to receive payment from them for the services we completed, and after reading all of the complaints regarding this company, I am pretty certain we will not be receiving payments. I will be filing a complaint with the BBB and the Attorney General's Office. I am also going to send NHP to OUR collections department.

I am also a realtor and you can bet I will tell anyone and everyone who will listen about this company and their shady business practices. The only comfort we can cling to, is that "What comes around, truly goes around".

Stay away from National Home Protection. It's been over 8 months since I sent the rebate form for Home Deport gift card and have got a run around since. Their web site has no contact numbers for the rebate. All I'm getting is a reply that's it's in process, followed by a hang up. Good luck filing a claim also, since it's a nite mare.

I agreed also with the gentle man that throwing your money in the furnace is better than purchasing a home warranty with National Home Protection. I'm adding that they're total rip off, their staff are all lairs, will deny any comment they made to you, will not answer their phone, will add more to your problems and will not put their words in writing. I gave NHP everything they requested from me in writing such as maintence record and home inspection report still they denied my to fix my air conditioner. They sent a technician who told me that the unit needs to be replaced. He told me that NHP is having so many problems with their customers " They don't approve to fix anything'' that I should look for another company that will really be their for me when I need them. Three day later, the same technician called me telling me that NHP needs maintenance record, although that he told NHP that the unit was well maintained. They denied my services before getting the paper work they requested. I requested a denial letter from them and they'll not sent me or give me my refund back. I should've checked the net before entering into two contracts with them. Don't let them rip you off by not doing any business with National Home Protection. Don't be one of their victims.

A week ago my furnace started making loud noises and I called my home warranty company National Home Protection (NHP) to have someone come out and fix the noise. NHP sent out a Furance Technician who looked at the issue and decided that the bearings were going bad within the Furnace motor/blower and the motor/blower had to be replaced. The technician called NHP and after discussing the issue with NHP came in and said that they would need maintenance records for the furnace before approving the repairs.

I just bought the house 2 months before and have had no maintenance on the house utilities; so, as a substitute they said I should send in the Home Inspection documents to include everything regarding the furnace and the page before and after. I faxed in the documents, called to ensure they recieved them and was told I would hear back in 24-48 hours. After 1 week I called them to find out the status as they did not call me as promised, only to find out that they had denied the claim because 1) there was not proper maintenance records and 2) the furance was not inoperable, they only repair things which are inoperable and not things which are broken, but yet working in a reduced capacity.

This is my second claim with NHP the first took 1 month to fix a water heater which the thermostat was broken after going through about 4 contractors.

This company has terrible service and makes it a practice to make repairs difficult or impossible to discourage payouts. Fortunately spring is here and I don't have to worry about my family freezing from the furnace issues, but will now have to pay $500 out of my own pocket to get the repairs - not to mention the $45 I had to pay for the initial contractor to review the issue.

Please stay away from this company and find a Home Warranty company which is more reputable.

I am currently trying to get my oven fixed. The control panel won't let the oven heat any higher than 200 degrees. The Authorization manager, Michael Moore, will not return any of my repeated attemps to speak with him. I have a feeling this is a phoney name. Like my complaints are sent to a recycle bin. 3 repair companies have come out and they all say the same thing as far as the control panel being needed replaced. Oh, btw, the first call for the repair was 02/09/08. Today is 05/12/08. There has got to be a way all disgruntaled customers and former customers can put together a classaction law suit. Problem is, attorneys are worse than NHS.

I have very similar experience and please help other people NOT to pump money for this fake company. I personally feel this company must be closed right away and help others not to be victims for this scam. I am so much frustrated with these NHP (National home protection ) and their unethical practices and their customer service and claims department is full of lies. I can not trust them at all.

My rebates got rejected after they told me that the check is in the mail.

My claims of water heater and sump pump electrical problem got rejected with unknow reasons.

BBB and the Attorney General's Office is really care for people please take action on this company ASAP.

Hope this helps.

This is by the far the biggest hassle I have ever had with a company. They sent out a one of their contractors who miss diagnosed my problem and would have charged them $800 dollars over what it actually cost. They did not honor the contract and I have had to fix the issue myself. I am on a well system and had no water coming into my house AT ALL for a week! My fight with them is still continuing.

National Home Protection has failed to respond to my claim #214096 to repair or replace the inoperative heating system component due to normal wear and tear, pursuant to the terms of our home protection agreement, since October 2007. I have been tossed to various representatives who promise to call but they never do. Pursuant to a representative's instructions to me in April, 2008 I mailed a contractor's estimate for the replacement of my heating system component along with proof of maintenance service on my boiler for the last two years. The rep told me that I would then be entitled to up to $1500 toward the work, which was completed on August 6, 2008 by McCormack Heating Contractors in Montclair, NJ. On June 10, 2008 receiving no response yet I contacted National and was told by another rep that another person over Mr. Moore, a Mr. George Stevens was handling my claim and that he had 48 hours to contact me. He never did to this date. My last call to National on June 17, 2008 ended with their reply, "I don't know anything about this". An immediate response is required pursuant to an investiation by the Attorney General of the NJ DIvision of Consumer Affairs.

I have to agree with everything everyone is saying. Unfortunately I "WAS" a vendor of theirs, but they do not pay their bills either. We have tried the phone calls, leaving messages and everything else imaginable, but have had no success. I advise anyone and everyone, if you need a home warranty choose one of the following: Old Republic Home Protection, Home Buyers (2-10), or Cross Country. Best of luck to all of you.

This company is an absolute rip off! I manage a four-plex for an owner who bought a contract and National Home Protection has denied every appliance replacement, and they denied replacing an air conditioner. I have a tenant who has not had hot water for a week! The run around I have received is unbelievable. No one will transfer me to a supervisor or even give me a name or phone number. I am going to report this company to the Dept. of Real Estate, The Better Business Bureau, and California's Atty. General.

I too was ripped off by National Home Protection (NHP). Not only did NHP NOT provide the Home Warranty coverage they promised, but I NEVER RECEIVED the $50 Home Depot Gift Card rebate, which was an incentive for purchasing the Home Warranty. I was told that my rebate form was postmarked on April 4, 2008 after the time frame for mailing in the request. However, my rebate form was mailed on February 19, 2008, well within the time frame. My husband is a Postal Service employee and he had the postage stamp on the envelope for my rebate submission, HAND CANCELED. This company is a BIG SCAM.

It took me 4 contractors and 10 phone calls only to be denied the repair of my air conditioner. They never returned phone calls, they hung up on me, and they denied my claim. The one contractor that finally came, was a scam artist too. I paid him to clean the ac and he did not. I was too afraid of him to stand up for myself. The contract by NHP clearly staes that "which become inoperatable due to normall wear and tear". and under airconditioners:, "All components and parts". They said to contact "disputes@nationalhomeprotection.com"...that site does not exist. I have spent hours and hundreds of dollars out of my own pocket. This company ripped me off.

Sir or Madam:

I spoke with one NHP Reps this morning reference my claim, which I submitted on 6 Oct 08. at the end of this email, I have attached all email traffic pertaining to my claim. However, what I want to address right now is the fact that I was sent via email in pdf format a "Customer Reimbursement Procedures" Form. I was told that I could find my a technician on my own and that anything repairs over $100 I would have to call and get authorization. As of the date of this email (13 Oct 08), I got Elliott Air Conditioning. We called NHP and he spoke with a rep and told them the problem is that the motor in the a/c unit would have to be replaced, and gave an estimate of approximately $200. Afterwhich, the rep put him on hold, came back and told me that I needed to fax to NHP my maintenance records. How often does NHP use this to keep from paying claims? I told NHP rep that I had been in my home for 18 years and that I did not keep and maintenance records. The techinian said to your rep that this motor is out because of normal wear and tear, but that did not satisfy NHP. EIGHTEEN YEARS OLD SYSTEM. Your rep stated to me that NHP reserve the right to ask for the record. I change my filters every three months and that is done on the inside of my home. I understand that you all reserve the right to ask for records, but since I do not have maitenance records, and this is my second year with your company, will you make exception or at least pay a portion of the cost of the repair if not all? Elliott Air Conditioning stated that his labor will be $70 and the approx. cost of the motor is $200. I have been with a/c since 5 Oct 08 and I live in the Southeast Alabama and it is hot and humid. I signed on with your company because you all reassured potential buyers that we would have nothing to worry about. This is the second time I filed a c laim. The first time for an electric water heater. I clearly understood what you all did not cover. But here I am again, and you all want to reserve the right to see maintenance records that I do not have. Does this mean I will not get my central air/heating unit repaired or what will NHP do for me? Will you call me with an authorization number so the technician can complete the job? My home telephone is --------, and my cell is ------, and Elliott Air Conditioning Service is ------.

Thank you for your assistance.

Including today, you will see below that I have made several attempts to get NHP to make things right for me.

PREVIOUS EMAIL TRAFFIC--
This email is in reference to my claim #540-677.

My unit stop running in the P.M. on 5 Oct 08, I called in my came to you on 6 Oct 08.
On 7 October 2008, NBP emailed stating that A 1 Services, an authorized NHP service technician, [protected] had been assigned the job and for me to make contact with them to schedule a mutually convenient service appointment. However, when I called the owner, he said that you all did not contact him, and that where I lived was too far for him, and that he had more work that he needed, that he was working mainly in Pike County. I reported that you NHP on the same day, and you told me that you were working on getting another contractor.

On 8 October 2008, NBP emailed me stating that Wagner Air Conditioning, another authorized NHP service technician has been assigned the job and for me to make contact with them to schedule a mutually convenient service appointment. I called Wagner Air Conditioning at [protected] this morning, per your guidance to setup an appointment. I was told that they got an initial call from NHP about contracting a job, but have not heard back from you. Wagner Rep told me that NHP is not in their system, and they are waiting for additional information from NHP. As 9 Oct 08 at 3:03 P.M. CST, they have not heard from your company, and someone has been at their place of business all day. Until they hear from you with the needed information, I WILL NOT GET ANY SERVICE

On your homepage under "About Us" under "Our Service" you state, "We pride ourselves on having the most satisfied customers in the business and will go to great lengths to make sure that when your needs are met, you'll refer your friends and family to us because you know they will be taken care of." I do not consider what is happening to me as good care. At this stage, I am a reluctant to refer my family and friends to NHP.

WHEN CAN I EXPECT SERVICES TO BE RENDERED ACCORDING TO STANDARDS THAT YOU ASSURE ON YOU WEBSITE?

this is a email i sent to NHP and have now found they closed my claim!

Hello,

Let me start by saying that I though having a home warranty was a good idea and maybe it is but just not with your company. I have had noting but hassle dealing with NHP since I had to call for my first problem. I will start from the beginning I was researching companies and came across NHP I called to get info and a price quote with 20% off and a $50 HD gift card. I told the guy I would have to talk it over and get back to him well he put me on hold to see what he could do for me to buy it that day and he came back and told that along with the 20% and gift card he would also throw in 2 free calls, well that did it for me I signed up in July. Fast forward to my first call it was for my shower, the first number assigned to be was for a company that the phone number did not even work anymore so I had to call back, well I get a hold of someone who comes out and makes a adjustment and it is fixed or so I though (the shower still changes its not fixed). I paid the guy even though I thought it was considered a free call. The next day I called NHP to find out about the free call only to find out that I did not have 2 free calls and the guy who sold me the warranty lied to me. I got a hold of a manger that apologized to me and gave me a free call. Now to my new issue I had a HAVC person come to my home and do a tune up on my furnace and he found a small gas leak in the gas valve so I called NHP on Friday the 24th to see if that was covered under my warranty and it was, I let the girl know that I had a free call and she noted that and told me to let the guy know that it was a free call. I called square one the company assigned to me and they sent someone out Monday night. The guy came and confirmed the leak and told me he had to get the part and would be back Tuesday and in the mean time TURNED OFF MY FURNACE to be safe (I live in CO it gets cold at night). He also said he know nothing of the free call and wanted a check from me, I gave him a check and asked that he not cash it as this was suppose to be a free call and that I needed to find out why he was not told. That then led to me finding out that NHP wanted service records on the furnace and that the repair was not going to be done until they had records. I just bought this house the only records I have is from my inspection and the guy who just came out and found the issue. I had NO idea that claims could be denied and records are needed for certain things, to me that is crazy, people buy homes and get warranties because they want to be covered in case something goes wrong because of the previous owner, it just seems that it is a loophole for NHP not to fix things. It is now Monday nothing has been fixed and Square One cashed my check that I should not have had to give them in the first place! And I have yet to receive my $50 gift card from home depot. I have to wait on the phone sometimes for nearly 20mins every time I had to find out what was going, i had even been hung up on. I do not think I will stay with NHP when my year is up and I do not have anything nice to say about NHP it has been nothing but headaches for me and it is very time consuming for me to deal with. I can not believe my claim is being denied because I waited till Oct to have my furnace looked at, if you would have seen my home when I moved in you would understand that not paying to have my furnace looked at right away in JULY since it was not in use would make, there were far more important things I needed to spend my money on having fixed than that. I want my Furnace fixed and I want my $45 back!
As of nov 14 nothing has been done and my claim was closed. after reading all the complaints i am now sure i will never have it fixed and wish i would have know not to use this company! STAY AWAY FROM THEM!

I have had many home warranties and have been with National Home Protection for many years and have nothing complain about. I see all these bad reviews saying there a scam company when in reality all it sounds like is that customers are trying to scam them with pre-existing issues. Consumers have to realize that they are buying a home warranty and there is a contract involved and they need to READ THEIR CONTRACT! National Home Protection is the best company and i will be with them for years to come!

Merry Christmas, I too have been on the sleigh ride of National Home Protection reindeer crap! My range became defected, paid the $45.00 to the tech, whom was afraid to call me back with their answer. So--I do not need to be redundant, they claim it is not part of their service agreement-(a range that shoots sparks from the top burners, plus a few other defects.) I called them and received the usual run around. I too have not received my Home Depot Gift cards, for a total of $250.00. Also am on the 5 year plan. When getting the run around today, again, I was told I sent in my form to soon. Before it was too late, then some days my gift cards were in the mail. I am angry now and ready to take action, just not venting on the computer. This organization needs to be locked up! I am going to start with my local action line news, we might as well get to see what size rats they are. So-my New Year Resolution is to expose them to the world. Here was the icing on the cake- I was told I could cancel my policy for a fee, of course they did not know what the fee was and what I would receive. I guess they can feel comfortable making offers like this because you will never see any money and now you do not have a contract. Anyone having success with another course of action, please let me know, and I am not taking to the ghost writers for the company that never had a complaint!

National Home Protection is the best company and i will be with them for years to come! thank NHP!

Its obviously this is not a true statement or a real customer since she said that she has been with NHP for years and they haven't been in business very long under that name. The truth is this company is a scam and she is probably a member of them. Please contact either the NY or your State Attorney Generals Office and help put them out of commission. They are also not properly Licensed to sell Insurance and Home Warranties are Insurance so check that out with your local Insurance Commissioner.

My agent got me this home insurance without checking on line. It's too late when I found out all the reviews and sad to say all of those are TRUE! I have called them 2 times, 1 for an electricity problem and another one for pool. Aside from being so hard to reach, the people who will answer your call are so rude and uneducated. They will just hang up on you even while you were still talking. Needless to say, I paid the 2 contractors that came to our house without doing anything because when they ask for authorization National Home Protection never gave them so my $90 was gone. They are robbing people. Please do something so this company stops scamming innocent people.

We are an electrical contractor in Concord, CA and we have done work for this company and have submitted signatures and invoices to be paid. They have not paid, they will not return phone calls, they avoid letters. They are very good at being vague. I have called the homeowners that we did the work for on behalf of NHP and they cannot get ahold of NHP either. This is ridiculous they need to pay there contractors.

We are an appliance servicer here in NC. We have done work for NHP and they WILL NOT pay you. They will hang up on you, give you the runaround, lie to you, say they never got the faxes, disconnect their fax machine, close their office for weeks on end, ignore your messages, not call you back, treat you like crap on the phone, and laugh at you when you call. I have fought with them since JULY of last year to pay 2 separate claims for THEIR customers and they will not. We have done everything by the book, gotten the signatures and even prior authorization numbers from them to complete the jobs. They are the worst company and I have never in my life dealt with anybody so dishonest. Too bad for them karma is a @$%^$. They still owe us over $500.00.

I am an appliance servicer in NC. We did two jobs for NHP last July. Our technicians got prior authorization from NHP to complete the repairs for THEIR customers. We completed repairs and sent invoice to NHP for payment. I have been fighting with NHP since last july to get paid on these invoices. We have left message after message with them. They will transfer me, hang up on me, lie to me, say they havent received the faxes, tell me the payment has been authorized and ON AND ON AND ON.. Oh and one of the employees I spoke with who was "authorizing payment" for our invoices name was RACHEL. Go figure huh. The guy is a jerk too. I got the impression only two people work there on the phones. OF the MANY MANY calls I made, there were only two people I spoke to and they kept making up new names for themselves.

"James Monroe" does not work at NHP. This is a made up name for the ### guy that works there who always has a new name for himself. It changes quite frequently. I have had the unfortunate experience of having to deal with this company and gotten the runaround from the same two people who call themselves different names every time they transfer me somewhere to leave a message. I wonder if "Abraham Lincoln" or "George Washington" work there too?
