During a severe two week snow and ice episode in Feb. 2015, I did everything in my power to keep my sidewalks clear of snow and ice.
My sidewalks were snow-plowed, hand shoveled and covered with rock salt by me and my husband. The side of my house receives very little sunlight, so every time I shoveled a layer of ice would form at night.
On the afternoon of Feb. 11, 2015, I spent hours searching many stores for rock salt or snow melt. I finally found 3 bags and promptly covered the ice with it at 4:00 PM.
At 6:31 PM the NY Dept. of Sanitation issued me a $100.00 ticket stating the following;
"I did observe an ice condition on sidewalk at side of premise with no attempt made to sand, salt or shovel path for pedestrians."
This ticket was written In the dark when It was impossible to see the condition of the sidewalk.
I fought the ticket sending evidence that rock salt was applied. They came to a decision and ruled against me, and I must pay $100.00. Now they're sending me threatening letters.
This is such a money-making scam by NYC and the Dept. of Sanitation.
I would like to know why the NYC Dept. of Sanitation leaves half of the trash bags in the cans, and throws the cans in the middle of the street or against my car.
They are clearly not doing their job efficiently or professionally, yet getting paid great salaries and pensions.
This is a disgrace to treat home-owners like my husband and myself, who are senior citizens, in such a low manner.
If they see a problem, why not pay the "inspectors" to ring bells and offer their help.
new york city department of sanitation writes bogus tickets at 3:00 a.m. no bags of garbage outside.yet we receive a ticket. department of investigation should follow them and investigate. city is just telling agents to write tickets knowing most won't fight and will pay. the court is a 'kangaroo court " the city is a parasite.
