This breeder has sold numerious puppies to unsuspecting buyers. Ms Lynn and Renee Overy and Lynn's boyfriend John Steib were the subject of many counts of animal abuse. Mr Stieb was just fined $20, 000. The article can be read here;
http://www.app.com/article/20090729/NEWS/907290356/1285/LOCAL09/Breeder+fined+for+selling+sick+dogs

I have owned Golden Retrievers in the past and before I made a decision with who to buy from I did my research but there wasn't any complaints against this breeder at the time. I now own a golden, Hunter, who has been diagnosed with a severe case of Sub Aortic Stenosis(SAS) which is a fatal heart condition. There is no known case of a dog that has been diagnosed with SAS that has lived past 6 years old. We are heartbroken but are giving him the best life a dog can have.

I cannot find this breeder to be able to serve them w/papers to at least recoup some of the $3000 that I have put out so far.

Casey, I am so happy to hear this! God bless and I hope you get a healthy golden puppy!

I have had a golden in the past that had lines from "gold rush". I think you will be very happy with yours. If I'm not mistaken Mary Tyler Moore owned quite a few "Gold rush" goldens..

Take care and would love to see a photo of your new puppy!

Just so you all know the "two bit crook" is monitoring this site. Apparently she just doesn't see what piece of garbage she is and I can't believe she can't be shut down! If I had more time on my hands I would make it my number 1 priority to do so!

Feel free to email me any suggestions.

I also own a golden retriver that I got from John Stieb. I had him 2 days when I hospitalize him with Parvo Virus. That was the first bill of 3000.00 for 2 weeks in the hospital. Since then he is on more meds, and more vet bills then I can count. The last time I total his bill was back in June, and it was well over $6, ooo. It was when we went to court for the Human Society against John Stieb and Lynn Overy. And the out come was John, had to pay over 20, 000. in fines to the courts and the Human Society.. And also make resotition for the sick dogs through Consumers Affairs. So far it is November and Consumers can't find him, and he has made no payment.
I think it is a disgrace to our court system and Judge Foley, that he made a laughing stock out of all of us. I also understand that his brother, Micheal Stieb is a lawyer in Middletown, and that's why he got off as easly as he did because of curtisty to his brother.
I also understand that he is selling puppies now in Canda. Busness as usual.

Has anyone ever been to his home or seen where he breeds these dogs? I am concerned because I have been talking to him about buying a golden puppy. Any advice, perhaps legal, other than to stay away?

Oh my god I can't believe I am reading this. My husband and I got a puppy husky from them 2 years ago. He was so sick for almost the whole 1st year we had him. Finally he is ok now, BUT we just got another from them. Only 2 days ago we got a retired Husky from them. She is 2 years old and just had a litter of puppies, I did think it was weird they wanted to give her up right after having puppies. We thought she would be great, coming from the same breeder, and being the same age as our first dog from them, but she is sooooo shy, it seems like she came from a shelter, not a loving breeder. She won't even let us near her. When we called to ask about her, it's like pulling teeth to get an answer from him.
I am upset and don't know what to do? Should we give back the new dog to them? Please someone write back!

hi how is the husky doing now is she okay and less shy. Try taking her to some socialization classes. We have two golden's from northern lights and they are bad breeders. They really do treat their dogs badly. Please work with her as opposed to giving her back to those people.

We bought a Husky from these people 2 years ago also. He had the worst case of diarrhea I had ever seen. $ 2000.00 the first week that we had him. The vet cleaned him for parasites and put him on medicated food and a prescription. Between the food and prescription we were spending over $ 100 dollars a week. He was on this for 4 weeks. It worked for that time period. As soon as he came off of the prescription, he went right back to the diarrhea. I found someone online with similar issues with his Husky. He gave me a recipe for the food he served his Husky. The first day I put him on the the new recipe without the medication, the problem was solved. He is now a very healthy and happy dog. He can not eat anything outside of this recipe without getting sick again. When we tried contacting John and Lynn fro assistance, they would not answer the phone or return calls.

We bought a male pup from them last april. Our bad though, even though I spoke with him many times on the phone, we never got to see the parents, and he brought the puppies to our house in his van. He brought dogs from different parents that we had discussed. He had 2 males and 3 females in separate crates with no bottom tray. There were also 3 siberians. Noticed his tail was bent the day after we got him (?didn't notice at first cause he was so cute), but John did call me right back, and seemed sincere. It wasn't serious, and seemed to resolve itself. Discovered a uninary tract infection when he was a little slow housebreaking. Also discovered bilateral hip displasia when xrayed. I was very upset when reading about John in the paper twice! However, I realize it was my own stupidity, because even though we took some time seeking a pup, we did not do our homework on this breeder. Puppies are a very emotional purchase!

I got a Siberian Husky puppy from Northern Lights at the end of June '08. We brought him in to the vet the next day for the suggested checkup within 72 hours of purchase. He did have a small, extremely common parasite that made his stool soft but it was no big deal, we got some relatively inexpensive medicine and it went away in no time at all. He never actually became ill from it. Other than the parasite, the vet said he was in good health and was a very handsome puppy.

He recently got an eye infection for which he took $20 eyedrops for three weeks and it's gone, not the breeder's fault. My puppy is in good health and good spirits. I cannot complain about his breeders, despite the bad reviews they are apparently getting here.

I attached a picture of my puppy, Cy. He'll be turning two on April 6th.

hi all,
we have decided to go elsewhere with our golden plans... while john from northern lights was perfectly nice and friendly, there was something off about his presentation.. he arrived in a van with a few other pups and was dodging the important questions of paperwork, shots, being AKC registered, etc.. combine that with these horror stories, things just did not add up.. we also found it odd that they wouldn't let us visit their home and meet the parents of the puppies etc... there is an excellent breeder in princeton, NJ called "gold rush kennels".. they are listed on the AKC website and come highly recommended from our previous golden breeder (who has since retired).. i would suggest contacting them for your golden puppy needs ;-) .. hope this helps!

I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT GRIEF SINCE WE PURCHASE A FEMALE GOLDEN FROM THEM, THE DOG WAS SICK AND WAS INFESTED WITH WORMS, WE ARE STILL WAITING TO GET A LEGITAMATE SET OF PAPERS FOR HER, DO NOT PAY THEM IF THEY DO NOT HAVE ALL THE DOCUMENTATION AT TIME OF SALE.
I WOULD RECOMEND NEVER BUYING FROM THEM IN THE FIRST PLACE.
WE ARE FILING A LAWSUIT AGAINST THEM FOR LOSSES DUE TO THIER MISREPRESENTATION IN THE SALE OF THIS FEMALE

This notice is to inform all puppy buyers that NorthernLightGoldens of Northern California is in no way affiliated with this breeder. Our names are different, and we are native Californians, never having lived in New Jersey. Our dogs are healthy and we have multiple references from satisfied owners. I was absolutely mortified when I saw this post as I could not believe that the name of this breeder is so close to mine.

Sincerely,

We also purchased a golden Retriever from Northern lights in 2005. We have spent over $10, 000 dollars on her since we have had her. She had elbow dysplasia surgery last may. She has horrible allergies she is on thyroid Medicine, I give her aduequan shots every month, she is on perscription food and she gets Cosamine twice a day along with 2 benedryil and has some hip displasia. I love her to death and I am glad i have her, because i think if someone else had her she probably would have been put to sleep by now. She is the sweetest Dog I also thought I did my homework when purchasing a puppy. B oy I WAS WRONG!

Thanks to websites like these that expose breeders with bad reputations. This may have saved me months/years of headaches and heartaches, nevermind a drain on the wallet. Thanks again to those who posted their experiences with North Lights Goldens/New Jersey

oh my god! i just f0und this and I can't believe it! We were going to get a husky from them! It was the same story! He happened to have a puppy with him, avoided a lot of questions, and we could not visit the home! When we tried to call them, and either never got through, or had to leave a message... we were curious about it.

Now I know to go elsewhere...

What a shame to read all this... We have two beautiful extremely well tempered Goldens from Northern Lights in Colts Neck, NJ. Nobody knows if their dog will be healthy or unhealthy, we are not God... What I do know is my Goldens are the most beautiful well behaved One year old puppies ever! We are thrilled with them. We lost our Golden, from a Pet Store 2 years ago, from liver and kidney disease, you never know what will happen, you just have to love them every minute you have them! Thats what makes them our pets!

I purchased a Golden pup on 7/30/2010 was told she came with AKC papers, Health certifcate, and a 2 yr. garr. it's now 2 months layer and I still have not received any of the proper paper work. I also contacted the AKE org. and they told me she hasn't even registered any of her pups in over a year. and to make matters worst after bringing the pup in for her first shots we found out they sold us a very sick puppy she was sick with Giardia which is a Parasite. not knowing this I became sick after having her for just a few days and my doctor tested me and I had some how contracted it from the the puppy. the puppy has been under treatment for over 5 weeks now and I have spent hundreds of dollars in vet bills a medications for the pup. just trying to get her better. hopefully people will read this before purchasing a dog because these are the last 2 people on earth I would ever want to buy a another dog from. they took my money I got nothing in return for it but a very sick puppy. I guess the only way to look at it is as my Vet said I more than likely saved the dogs life !

My husband and I purchased two siberians from Lynn 5 years ago. At that time she had two locations, New Jersey and one near Syracuse New York. One of my husky's had every parasite known. The vet was shocked that he didn't die. My female husy's has eplispy and a thyroid condition that was diagnoised 4 years ago. She is on medication that cost over $1oo.oo per month and still has 5 to 6 seziures each month. I cannot tell you how hearbreaking it is knowing this, this should not happen. They did have a website back then and was showing huskys and goldens.
My husband tried to contact them just to get some information about the eplispy and we wanted to inform them so they stop breeding the dog, but we also could not get in touch with them, either by phone or internet. We so love our dogs, and give them love and a good home.

I was browsing around looking for Norther Lights Siberians website and I stumbled apon this site. I couldn't believe what I was reading. I bought a Sibe from them in Oct. of 07. His belly was huge and he smelled awful. He had loose stools for a very long time and it took me forever to get rid of all his worms. I just thought it was a fluke. They never gave me the papers I was promised and I called them numerous times about it. They kept promising to mail them to me but never did. Our dog Koda has seizures. I'm not sure how often he has them that we don't see, but I have seen a few. They only last a few seconds but it feels like hours. I cannot believe what I read about these people. I really just thought my dog was just an isolated case. Thanks for creating this site! I hope they get shut down.

ME AND MY FIANCE BOUGHT A SIBERIAN HUSKY FROM JOHN A LITTLE OVER A MONTH AGO, AND SINCE DAY ONE, THE PUPPY HAS HAD DIARRHEA. AFTER A MONTH OF TRAINING, THE DOG STILL PEE'S AND POOP'S IN THE HOUSE AND HER CRATE! I HAVE SENT JOHN EMAIL AFTER EMAIL, AND WHATEVER ADVICE HE GIVES ME, WE DO. NOTHING IS HELPING THIS DOG. HE DOES NOT WANT TO ADMIT THAT HE HAS SOLD US A SICK DOG AND WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE AFTER READING ALL THIS, HE DOESN'T WANT TO ADMIT THAT HE HAS SOLD LOTS OF SICK DOGS. HE IS JUST A HORRIBLE HORRIBLE PERSON FOR DOING ALL THESE RETCHED THINGS TO THESE POOR, INNOCENT DOGS. I REALLY HOPE THIS MAN GETS SENT AWAY TO PRISON.

I purchased 2 Goldens from these people is September 2009. They were allegedly 5 years old when we got them. We were told that they had 3 litters of pups and that they were being retired. They were thin when we got them but we were assured this was because they just had puppies and hadn't recovered. I never had a female dog before so I bought the story. We put them on good food and they filled out and their coats got much better.

Through K9Data.com it appears the one dog had 5 litters( http://www.k9data.com/offspring.asp?ID=171608) plus the one she had before we got her. It also appears she was 7 years old when we got her, not 5. I wonder how many litters she had that weren't registered?

I can't find any information on the other dog. I'm sure she was bred repeatedly so they could keep selling Golden puppies. I just had a tumor removed from her which was cancerous. The surgeon did a good job removing it with no cancer cells on the perimeter. They also don't believe that the cancer spread to her lymph nodes. We're keeping our fingers crossed.

These poor girls must have been through hell. Fortunately they're with us now where they are truly loved, get to play in a huge yard and have clean water and plenty of food.

None of these bad comments or stories suprises me. I had dealings with Lynn Overy when she and her botfriend lived in Cicero, N.Y. She bred a Canadian Champion Golden that she owned with my Golden and found numerous reasons to charge me twicw as much as our original deal via a phone call. At this point my Golden was in the prime days of her heat cycle and it was too late to find another breeder. She charged me $1000.00 plus 2 puppies from the litter. It was my first time breeding and I was naive and agreed with her terms. The pups were beautiful and healthy as I was the one taking care of them. But we found out afterwards that the Canadian Champ sire had
bad hips, so I never bred any of their offspring. She also sold the 2 puppies from the litter at an exorbinant rate of
$2500.00 per pup and told the new owners that they were buying the pick of the litter. She also told them that my
female was a Champion which she was not. I found all this information out after the fact when I was contacted by
the new owners later on. Consequently I never dealt with the woman again, as it was clear that she was a dishonest rip-off artist. Signed anonymous

I just realized that the message I sent (two messages back) about private emails was not very well stated and may have been confusing. I think that it is important, especially for the new people, to know how this works and that they can speak individually to someone without the rest of the group seeing it. Here is how it works: If you click on the person's NAME that you want to contact, it will take you to his/her profile page. On that page there is a "Send Message" bar that you can click. Leave a message at that location and the message will go to only the person to whom you are writing. It will not go to his/her personal home email address, it will come through the ComplaintsBoard, but only she/he will see it. When you first log on, look to the RIGHT (not left, as I stated incorrectly before) side of the screen. Toward the top is will state if you have received any emails. Click there and see what has come to you personally. If you can't find that, go down lower to the "Messages" section and click on "Incoming". That will show the last incoming messages you received in chronological order. Maybe I'm just not as bright as the average Golden, because I did not notice the information telling me that I had private messages and was relying on the public forum. DUH! Anyway, if it is to be seen by all, do a comment in this section. If it is to go to an individual, click on their name and send it from their profile page. And don't forget to check and see if anyone has tried to contact you individually. I think I made it clear enough so even now I can understand what I said.
