Very long hours, little pay, horrible benefits, bad managers who take advantage of everyone that works for them, both heartless & relentless. They are extremely harsh on employees - buy your own uniform, pay for all calls you make to customers, run you on trucks they make you pay for. Run you on trucks with bald tires, expect you to make all calls to customers on your time and with your money and expect you to work no less than 60 hours per week including saturdays!

Used to work for them for 2 yrs. Kept being badgered by the service mgrs to take my truck home (which they charge you $80/month to take the truck home and you cant even use it if you need to pick something up that requires a truck). Well I dont have room for a 3rd vehicle during winter anyways plus I drive right by the office into town anyways so why bother taking it home? But yes the trucks are not taken well care of. When you need tires its like pulling teeth. My old one had slicks on. Only way I got them to change them is Orkin had an auditor coming through to inspect the office and trucks. The auto shop they 'contracted' to do all service work I wouldnt let put gas in the truck much less do any other work. When I got back in the truck when they put new tires on it shimmied. Turned out BOTH front wheels had loose lug nuts that I had to tighten myself. Told the office mgr and was basically blown off. Also we were REQUIRED to take the trucks back to this place for oil changes. Also the mgr liked to make techs switch trucks when mileage becomes high on them. I got a brand new truck (V6 instead of the usual 4 cyl) which was great for me with basically a city route where I can leave it in 2nd gear (most are manuals anyways) and not have to constantly shift in stop and go traffic.

Also the GPS system that limits you to 70 is dangerous in some situations. Theres a few onramps to the interstate that you enter in the fast lanes.

Salesmen just try to sell anything to people even if they dont need it. Service mgrs wont even help you if you need it. Office mgr just stabs techs in the back. Office people promise customers everything and never even page the tech about it(yes they still use pagers instead of getting cell phones for the techs). Had one office worker promise a restaurant that I will be there everyday at 4am to check all rodent traps. Yeah riiight. I usually didnt get home until 8-9pm from WORK and I'm gonna gert up at 2am for the hour drive to work for one place who wont listen when you tell them they have to get the holes in the walls repaired to help me eliminate the mice (I'm not a carpenter or mason).

Also the lack of having proper supplies that are commonly used. Routes that are too large to handle and you dont have time for any extra service calls if someone sees something. Routes that have too much territory (I had some days that took me over an hour and a half just to get to the town I wil be in most the day. 100 miles one way from the office and up to 50 the other way when I did residential routes. The commercial route I had stayed in the city).

Ended up getting fired because I had 4 customers out of 140 supposedly complained. 1 week after they told me I was doing such a great job and all my customers liked me. Honestly I was stressed out bad anyways and tried to hide it from customers. But they had a tech who moved to another state come back and apparently he wanted the commercial route which I had.

Also one of the office girls told the mgr I was planning on a 2 week vac in late aug the next year for a cousins wedding and she told them I was just gonna quit right before and go to it. Really WTF?

But I had the last laugh. Chatted with a tech there 6 months later and found out 40 of my customers cancelled service because I was fired. Really also should had turned them in to the Dept of AG for some of their practices regarding use and disposals of chemicals.

I've been commenting on several of the other Orkin complaints, and even though this person's experience is entirely believable, I think that a lot of this is due to bad management. This person was obviously burnt out and should have been let go. That being said, I bet that the management could have prevented this.

This person was burnt out by bad management. After trying to schedule an yearly appointment myself with one of Orkins sexual partner office girls twice I have yet to get anyone out because they were to busy surfing the web or doing what unqualified people do at work to actually put me down for an inspection. This is what is wrong with all America. We have no nepotism or sexual partner clauses for hiring personnel. Why just the other day the Maintenance Supervisor at a TVA site hired his Mistress that ended up doped up on the job and she is still there.

All you people complaining are nothing but a bunch of useless cry babies. Orkin is a great company to work for, and if you were underpaid then you obviously were a terrible sales person. Well now that the 'economy is bad, ' why don't you use that as an excuse to sit home and play video games all day? You will never be happy at any job because you are just a miserable person.

Who ever is posting here defending the Orkin compay must either be posing as an HR attempet to midigate damages or be completely nieve to the real world. ORKIN is currently in the process of selling services the customers don't need service and trying to create an urguncy that doesn't exist. It's all about creating sales numbers. ORKIN is taking advantage of the depressed economony to hire even more un-educanted employees to sell you something whether you need it or not.
This is the worst company I've ever worked for and I've been in this business for 15 years.

I am not orkin management or from HR. I first started working for Orkin back in 2003 as a termite tech. Eventually left because of not getting the raise that I wanted. I then worked for another employer for 2 years but was let go because of the economy. I was working in the automotive industry in sales. Did not have a job for 2 months until I got a phone call from the Region Mgr. of Orkin. He somehow found out that I was unemployed and have been trying to get in touch with me for some time. He asked me if I would consider returning to Orkin and I explained why I left the first time. He assured me that it would be different this time around..He said the branch was under new management and that he would he would make sure I would be taken care of.
I went back to work for Orkin in Nov. 2009. I run a residential and commercial pest control route. I have between 195 - 221 accounts every month. Since I started as a termite tech, I am also able to do termite reinspections. About three months of returning, the branch had a meeting with Division Mgrs. I asked for a raised after the meeting...Two weeks later one of the Division Mgrs. called my branch mgr. to inform him that I was getting the raise I asked for.
I was surprised by the news that I had to ask my branch mgr. how did I get the raise. He replied to me that Orkin Management was not going to let me go so easily this time around. I don't know why people are saying that Orkin is a horrible company to work for. If they value you as a good employee and you show them that you are willing to do all the continuing education that they are offering; courses from Purdue University, Texas A&M, AIB, and all the yearly receritfications it will greatly benefit you. It sure help me. Even with all the accounts that I have, I rarely work past 5pm. We have a rotation with other techs to work on weekends. I work on weekends every 8th week. I am glad that I return to Orkin. I am now trying to get into a management position. If you are a good employee and show that you are wiling to learn and do your best, you can be successful at any job.
