I have two sets of citadel doors. I have been trying to contact the company for 6 weeks to purchase replacement parts. They put you on hold by phone for ever and do not respond to e - mails. A very sorry company, i did not buy these doors originaly and would not buy anything from them ever after my present experience. I have just found out that two of the parts for the sliding door locks are not even availible any more and they are only 9 years old.

I agree. The house I live in is only 9 years old, the doors and windows are by Peach Tree. The windows leak like a sieve. I literally get ice forming around the top of the frames - - without the shades down, and when the wind blows hard it will actually blow the shades around. It as if you have a fan pointed at the windows. The windows in my lower level have delaminated from the frames and the tilt out mechanism no longer works. As for the doors, they leak too (although not nearly as bad) and the locksets are simply horrible. They stick - the bolts won't return properly so you end up having to move the handle half a dozen times to get them to work properly. Now the french door handle onto the patio simply broke! It moves up and down but does not move the bolts. The replacement lockset is over $200! For windows and doors to be in this bad of shape so quickly is simply PATHETIC! In my old home I had Pella windows and doors. The did not leak and work perfectly. I am going to be replacing these appallingly bad Peach Tree units with either Anderson, Pella or another manufacter who understand the meaning of pride in manufacturing. Peach Tree - you should be ashamed!

We also have a Peachtree french door. The locksets are not working and I can't get in or out of my front door!
We have called and when we finally got hold of a live person, we were told to go on line and figure out how to fix it ourselves! We have called three places locally that sell doors and none of them will touch it. We are so frustrated! I can assure you this is the last thing we will purchase from Peachtree.

Well I must say that I purchased my Peachtree sliding patio door over 20 years ago. After installing I noticed part of the wood frame was warped. I called a rep and a new piece was sent out immeadiately. All worked well.
My door has been great, except for the locking mechanism. I have tried to fix it but haven't ever been successful, so I just live with it.

My problem is the screen door. My screen is inside of the patio door not outside like most doors. People continuely run into the screen mostly when it is dark. I have had to replace the entire screen door as the aluminum frame bends all to heck and impossible to fix.

It just happened again and I don't know if I'll be able to replace it if we are not able to get it bent back in shape. There should have been a better design or a heavier frame.
I will let you know what happens.

I put a a cheap gate across my screen purchased at home depot. It's not the best looking but not that bad either. I installed in on the lower third of the screen door and I haven't had anybody run into it for 8 years. It was happening almost every year prior to that.

I have a Peachtree Newport II fiberglass front door (single) which is 15 years old and directly faces the afternoon sun. The summer temperatures are brutal and the door has held up exceptionally well. It is no surprise that the weatherstripping is finally failing.
I called Peachtree at [protected] for replacement parts and had a live person (Jill) in under 4 minutes. She was very helpful by informing me that the part numbers had changed and, within an hour, she emailed me a quote for replacement parts (including new part numbers and names.
I ordered the parts the next day and paid via credit card over the phone.
My only minor disapointment is that it takes 4 weeks to receive the parts.

We spent over $10, 000 for Peachtree doors and windows less than 9years ago. We went with Peachtree for their lifetime warranty.. HA.. There is no such thing as a lifetime warranty with Peachtree. Its only good for as long as they make the product line. We bought numerous sliding Carvel doors and a Fiberglass front door with side lights, tons of windows. The window are still fine. The SlidingDoors did not hold up, I have one that faces the south and the frame rotted out in 7 years! of course, peachtree can't honor the warranty because they stopped making that door. As For my Fiberglass front door the door itself is good. The cheap, crappy wood they used around it rotted out in 8 years even with paintings. Peachtree will not respond to the calls, or e-mails. They claim they don't cover rott. DO NOT BUY THEIR DOORS! I have an Andersen door and it is over 20 years old and it is still going strong. I probably wouldn't be so upset, had I not paid a premium for the products with the lifetime warranty. Just send me my parts, thats all I wanted! To buy after market parts for the doors, it will cost me 800 to replace the framing- that is pure nuts!

I have a Peachtree door with 10" side lights with a circle top window. The window is double pane with e-glass. It's supposed to be energy efficient. After about 5 years, I noticed that the circle top window wouldn't come clean when washed. Turns out the dirt was on the inside of the glass. The window was leaking. I called Peachtree and they sent out a representative who told me - "Don't worry about a thing. Your door is guaranteed for 20 years. We'll get a new window right out to you." It came shortly there after, but it was the wrong size! Now comes the fun part. First they didn't believe me. Even after I read the order number for the new window, they wanted the manufacturing code that is stamped inside the old window, and when I gave them that, they said THAT wasn't right. And this is their door! They made it! Then I had to take pictures and take measurements (which they said didn't make any sense) and fax all that to them. Well, none of that was any good, so now they want me to make a template of the glass out of anything I want. (paper, aluminum foil, plaster of paris, wallpaper, what...!? I'm going to do it, but this is it. I'm going to be talking to my attorney next if I don't get results from this cluster f#@K.

built our house about 9 years ago, Peachtree windows and two french doors are peachtree - one set of french doors i can only open from the inside, the other set i can only open from the outside. i would never buy from peach tree again. service, what service.

my sister also had a peach tree french door, they fnally ended up replacing the whole door after about 10 years - with something other than peachtree of course. if you're looking at peach tree - it's not worth the price or aggravation.

I have a Peachtree Citadel Patio Door that I need to have re-keyed. If anyone has any experience with removing the cyclinder of the triple latching mechanism, please respond.

I just finished talking to peachtree (bought out by weather seal)about parts for my Citadel patio door. The door will not open for the third time in five years. The lockset has been replaced three times and it's broke again. They wanted to sell me a bushing kit for $15.50 for my "lifetime warranty door" that I know will not fix the problem. The next step will be to replace the lockset for only $180.00. Ha! That would be fine if I could even get the door open to replace it! I explained to the peachtree rep. that I cannot get the door open to repair it and that I felt this door was a huge safety hazard, but they dont seem to care as long as they can sell more junk parts. I asked the rep. what brands they sell other than peachtree and was told that they sell crestline and vetter? I told her that was good to know, so that I know what not to buy when I rip this piece of junk out . I would have expected this kind of service if the door came from China but it did not and was not priced like the cheap piece of crap that it is. Peachtree (weatherseal) are digging their own hole, good luck with that and let me know if you want me to bring my shovel!

I understand the frustration that has been expressed on this board about Peachtree products. Of what I have read it appears that the ones that are most upset have not found a tech that understands how to repair and service the product and deal with the service dept at Peachtree. The key is having a knowledgeable tech diagnose and correct the door or window so that it may continue to function for many more years to come.

the worst problem seems to be with the Citadel patio door locks. I have been told by the peachtree rep that the locks have a design flaw and that is why they have failed so ofter and so soon after installation. I have 5 doors with these locks that have never functioned properly and I am not sure i want to put $1000.oo ( 5 x 180 ) into a poorly designed lock.. is there a different brand of lock that can be bought to work with these doors ? i have been dealing with the peachtree rep for 4 years and lately have not even gotten a return phone call.

I have worked on the Citadel doors for the last four years. It is very unusual to have to replace a mortise lock on a door that is less than 15 years old. The locks do not have a design flaw. They are a hard working three point lock that takes a lot of abuse day in and day out. A reputable tech should be able to determine why it is you are having so much trouble. To have the problem on all five doors seems to be an installation issue of the door that is causing something to bind perhaps.. It also possible that the root cause of the problem has not be determined. Many times a broken spring in an auxillary module is broken, but the symptom presents itself as if the mortise lock is not working. Any time a mortise lock is replaced the modules should be checked. And, if he is doing five doors, it should be less. The first door bears the cost of the trip charge and set up fee. The additional locks could be changed at a lower rate.

I had my house built in 1995. Soon after I had a Peachtree rep in for several problems. He gladly side stepped each and every issue. One door's glass shattered on the inner portion of the panel and he indicated they didn't cover that as the door was "hung in a twist". I showed him problems with windows and other doors and he was nothing more than a smart ###. I had my rear Patio door ( one opens, the other is locked in place) not open for over three years, but did get new hardware from Peachtree and their "home install video". I managed to get it working again but like others said the opening hardware will twist past and not open a door...once too many times and it will stop working. I shutter each time I open the door to get to the deck fearing it will fail again. We use the single door out of the mudroom rather than chance the failure, most times. The garage French door is the one with the shattered glass pain, one side only doesn't want to open on the outside in, but seems to work on the inside out. The windows are not covered on the life time warranty have had bubbles in them from soon after installaton... I don't know how they get away with calling theirs a lifetime warranty, and sellng their type over priced, out of style opening hardware.

Might also ad that the product numbers in the glass that are needed to get anything are barely visible and down on the lower right side of the glass at the bottom...I can't read them with a magnifying glass.

FJ, it seems that you have not gotten a rep that truly understood the nature of your service issues. It is not common, but it does happen where a tempered piece of glass will shatter. As far as the door being hung on a twist causing the problem, I can't say without seeing it. If the door is hung on a twist as he said, then it is an installation issue not a manufacturing issue. This added stress of the door hitting the top of the strike first or the bottom certainly can cause there to be premature "failure" of the mortise lock because the strike bolts are binding when they engage the strike. If your house is 16 years old, it is difficult to understand your patience in not having this resolved within the first two years of construction. If the door is not installed correctly, then it would be extremely optimistic to expect the hardware and weatherstripping to perform as intended. As far as your glass goes, I am fairly certain that the glass is under warranty, but the labor to change it is not. I don't know of any window manufacturer that warrants labor on their product outside of two years. The glass code on all the windows is found on the spacer between the glass. If it is not there then it can be found behind the wood interior on a double hung, and behind the vinyl sash liner on a casement. Oftentimes the glass code for the french door is under the handle set escutcheon or mortise lock brass finish plate. I know that doesn't make sense, but I have found it there more times than not. The numbers that you can't read, if it is the french door, then that is just the ANSI code that is required on all tempered glass, and not a manufacturer code from Peachtree.

Thanks for a quick and good answer as well as helpful information. I did have difficulties in construction so my attention was divided in many ways. I can tell you though that to a lay person a life time warranty is just that...we have gone too far in this country saying one things that in reality means another. All in all I will replace the windows and doors in this house in the next few years which will be around twenty years...safe to say it won't be Peachtree but it could have been if they had been a bit more forthright.

Does anyone know a rep who will work on the lock for the Citadel Patio Door French unit? The lock is broken and I wasted my money with two locksmith; neither of them knew how to repair it. I live in the Bay Area. Any recommendations would be great!

Built my house in 1980, and used Andersen windows, but Peachtree doors, because my contractor swore up and down that Peachtree was the greatest value in the industry. I lost glass seal in one door pane after two years, and got no warranty replacement. Then the frames rotted after 8 years. Water sipped down through the rotted wood (the damage was not visible from the outside of the frame) and rotted the sills and the living room hardwood floors next to them. And while this was happening, I got black mold all inside the wall of the basement below --without knowing it-- until the damage was enormous. I had all that restored, and rebuilt the doors by buying Peachtree replacement frame parts (this because I was already invested in new glass.) BAD MOVE! Despite vigilance and great efforts to keep the doors dry and painted regularly, they again rotted after twelve years. After that, I took the plunge and had them replaced --at very significant cost-- with Andersens. And I had reason to go with Andersens: my original Andersen windows are still as good as new, and by now they are over 30 years old! I wish I had never heard of Peachtree, or of my contractor... My sympathy to all of you above!

Handy Homeowner, I too am in the Bay Area and am looking for someone to repair the lockset on a Citadel Patio French Door, which will open from the inside but not the outside. Did you find someone in the Bay Area who works on these Peachtree multipoint locksets? CPM Management

I purchased a Citadel sliding Patio Door almost 2 yrs ago, 1st one with cosmetic damaged, I didn't find out until I opened it up and old door was removed. They asked if I accepted it the way it's they'll paid me $200, fine, I took it, turned out the door leaked badly at the bottom where 2 doors met.

They replaced with a new door ( I had option wether to return it or replaced), ti didn't look right but I took it anyway (with $250 compensation), installed 4/2010, last winter I had service guy came over 3 times becaused of air leaked.

Today I had the same service guy came over again, this time is worse! He adjusted the door to the point that I need to push it in with one hand and pull with the other hand, man, this is a fiberglass door, they are much heavy than a normal wood door. Found out the door is warped (guess what? Peachtree said they won't replace warped door if it doesn't meet .25" (quater of an inch) minimum. It doesn't matter the min or max, the bottom line is : A Patio door with less than an yr old is air leaked every where.

To make a long story short, the service guy said : this is door is operating NORMAL, I asked hom if I can video him while he' trying to slide it to close the door, he said NO, I asked him if he was done with fixing, YES, I asked him to leave with my comment " Do you take pride of your work? You should of feel ashame of yourself Steve". I did video of him while leaving my home along with video how heavy of the door when I tried to close it etc. I'll wait for the report and go from there. Chance it are, I have to get a 3rd party, perhaps a license carpenter to come over and inspect the door, if Peachtree refuse to do anything, I guess, I just have to pay the county 30 or $40 and file a law suit at a smal court.

By the way, I live in MN, when winter is very brutal, today 11/17/2011 and it's sort of "ok" with 20 degree outside ")

My experience with Peachtree's customer support was excellent. They answered my call promptly, knew what parts I required, figured out the warranty coverage, and had the parts on the way in minutes. Jennifer and Randi were the two I dealt with, and they were awesome. My door was in use for 18 years before the mortise lock failed. Other than that, I have had no problems with the doors. They are well constructed, tight fitting and energy efficient.
