I would like to direct you to this open letter I am writing on behalf of a good friend of mine. He bought a Peerless Boiler - a fine piece of advanced, high-tech machinery designed to achieve an extremely complex task: take water that's at room temperature and... heat it. I understand that this is a crazy request. I mean, changing the temperature of water is a process that scientists have been struggling for years and years to accomplish. It's baffled the greatest minds all around the world from ancient egyptian times. Entire universities have opened 'water science' departments in an effort to understand this most complex of processes, so I was admittedly skeptical when Ken decided to go out and purchase a water boiler.
"A boiler, you say? You mean, to heat water? Bah, humbug! Wouldst thou mind picking me up a time machine on thy way to the store, as well?"
Well, apparently, there's one company bold enough out there to attempt to boil water, and who are willing to share their life-changing secret with you. It's Peerless Boilers, Peerless Boilers are like modern Da Vincis, dreaming up expensive and innovative solutions to the problem of supplying a house with that most rare of commodities, hot water. It's understandable that they don't work quite yet, I mean, after all, they're only in beta. We've been pretty satisfied so far. It's quite large, it's made out of some sort of sturdy metal I assume, it looks nice in the basement and most importantly of all, it fulfilled all of our hopes in terms of being quite expensive. How fantastic! We do, however, currently have one issue with the boiler. It's minor, but still we're hoping Peerless will be willing to address it:
Water: It doesn't heat it.
We've been enjoying the boiler for the month we've had it, of course. Marveling at its many pipes and fancy vents, drooling subtly as we trace our fingers around the impeccably-placed 'Peerless' logo on its smooth, metal veneer. I've grown so fond of it I've actually fallen in love with it, and now sleep in the basement curled up next to it, whispering sweet nothings into its ear and reminding it that we love it dearly, and any time it's ready to start trying to heat water, we'll be polite and not laugh. We understand it's asking a lot; we're willing to let it figure things out at its own pace.
The folks at peerless sure have been helpful! Every time we've called, we've been greeted by an equally sexy answering machine which takes our recorded messages and stores them away into oblivion so that we don't have to suffer the embarrassment of inconveniencing those fine folks at Peerless. Oh, those wonderful knights in splendid shining armor, fighting the mythical hydra known as 'freezing cold showers' with the bravery of the world's most daft and fanciful explorers. They truly are modern knights of the round table, they are. Every night I fall asleep praying to the heavens to help them find a solution soon, as such an intrepid band of renegades must need some sort of divine intervention to help them accomplish their lofty goal.
In fact, last time we called, our representative was too busy to assist us because he was headed out to a trade show! Fight on, brave soldier. Fight the good fight and earn more money for your company so one day you can bring relief to all of those of us who are suffering through these dark ages, when the science of heating water is so beyond the comprehension of most human minds that only the most well-equipped, intelligent crew of individuals dare to take on the problem.
Peerless, take your good old time. Take as long as you want to provide us with a boiler that truly heats water; for in this field, I know you are surely our only hope.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
I have never had a real reason to comment on a product but I have had such a bad experience with this manufacturer that I thought I owed it to any future purchaser to read this review. I had Peerless Pinnacle PI 199 condensing boiler put in about 10 years ago. For the first 5 or 6 years I never had a problem. Then the boiler started to make a large banging sounds. I called the plumber and he told me the heat exchanger had gone bad. The unit was still under warranty so he called Peerless. After speaking to the peerless representative for some time they refused to warranty the part. They said that the water filter was not properly connected. I could not go after the original installer as he had passed away. I accepted their findings and purchased an entirely new system from Peerless. This time the Peerless Purefire PF 210. This time I had the installer put in not one but three inline filters so as to protect the boiler. Three years later the heat exchanger failed again. Once again I called the plumber, he called peerless because the boiler was only 3 yrs old and it had a 12 yr warranty. The plumber informed peerless that it looked like an electrical issue as the wiring was burnt. Once again Peerless declined to honor the warranty. They claimed that the heat exchanger failure was due to the air exhaust and intake being placed too close together outside. These pipes were the original setup that was done 10 years ago and Peerless never mentioned that fact, they attributed the heat exchanger failure to an in-lime filter. My plumber told me that he thought that Peerless was coming up with excuses so as not to honor the warranty. He then asked to purchase the heat exchanger but Peerless would not sell him a heat exchanger unless it was due to a warranty issue. I am not making this up. So now I have a bad boiler that can't be fixed because they won't sell him the part. This is unbelievable customer service. I have spent well over $15, 000 on these two boilers in less than 10 years and will never buy another Peerless product.again nor recommend them. I wound up purchasing another boiler from a different manufacture. Do yourself a favor and Don't Buy a Peerless Product, it's not worth the money, time or aggravation.
I agree its a piece of crap! The plumber blames the installer, the installer blames the plumber or technician. We call the company because we can't get a [censor] answer from either one. And it continues to fail regularly...
When I attempted to get warranty info on my Peerless partner indirect water heater, this is the response from the company. Some further research indicates the trade is less than impressed with how the "new company" runs. Apparently they have been downsizing and reorganizing. A warranty means nothing if the company doesn't exist.
Hello
Our company, PB Heat, LLC has manufactured the Peerless® brand since 2003; prior to that the company who manufactured the Peerless® brand was The Peerless Heater Company who are no longer in business.
Thank you,
PB Heat
I’m with those who say peerless boilers suck!
My boiler was installed about 41/2 years ago, by a liscenced well respected plumber. I say that, because most of you pro peerless folks want to blame the installer. Well, on my unit (oil) the coil failed, from the inside of the unit. Again, not the installers fault. So, a little over $800 for the repair and replacement, on a non moving part mind you. Plus, the unit leaked hot water under my laminate ruining that as well.
So, I’m looking at an additional outlay of cash to the tune of$1200-$1400, depending on which “waterproof “ flooring product I choose. That’s just the product, I have to rip up the 400+ square feet of ruined flooring, and reinstall it myself. Peerless response to my complaint- warranty good for one year. Another words we got your money, get lost!
My last boiler lasted 26 years, Wiel McLain, should have stuck with them.
I my humble opinion, steer clear of peerless
