Update
I uploaded a complaint a while back regarding these people and I saw today that a few other people had similar experiences (along with receiving an email a while back). Well, it's time for an update. In my last complaint I explained the long process I have gone through trying to get my $71 back from this stupid company. How they kept claiming that I was doing something wrong (therefore had not actually canceled), but had also not sent me any magazines (which, if I supposedly had not canceled, shouldn't I be getting my magazine?). Well, as of today, January 1, 2009 I have received 2 magazines from them. My response was to simply throw them away because I've basically accepted that I won't get my money back and I'll have to deal with receiving this magazine for the next however many months. (Though I do still plan to continue annoying them.)
I thought ignoring it would be a good way to put it all behind me and not lose any more money, but now I have more reason to be concerned. My parents have been receiving non-stop phone calls for me from Reader's Source in Denver, Colorado regarding my magazine subscription which they claim I am paying $12ish per month to receive. I don't even live with my parents and they have decided to report the company to the Better Business Bureau, but I'm still concerned. They have not taken any money from me since the first check back in September and I planned to keep an eye on my account and report them to my bank if I needed, but I was curious if anyone else has had this problem? This is the phone number - [protected]. I haven't tried to call them yet because, 1 I assume I will get a busy signal or voice mail and 2 I don't want them having my cell phone number. I have read that others have simply told them "we're on the no call register" and, supposedly, the person just hangs up and stops calling. I have told my parents to tell the company this next time they call. I'm just upset that my parents have to deal with this because I didn't have a landline to use when contacting them.
My big concern, though, is that since they have started sending me the magazine, does that mean that I am responsible for paying them? I paid one time for a subscription so I expect to receive those magazines (since they won't give me a refund) and I would even expect to receive phone calls regarding renewal when my subscription ends, but I have heard from others that they will claim that I agreed to pay some exorbitant amount of money and I really don't want to get in trouble for refusing to pay (for instance, I don't need my credit to be ruined because of some stupid scam).
These people need to be shut down. I would appreciate any information or tips from anyone. Again, I am ready to simply put this behind me.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
Refund
I agreed to order a magazine from a girl who was trying to get points toward a trip. She told me that I could order, give her the check, then cancel my order (by following the instructions on the back of my receipt) and my money would never be taken. She said that she still received points, even if I did cancel the magazine subscription and that, if I...

sorry you went through that. I use to work for them. my phone is [protected]
On November 7, 2008, a young man (claiming to be a broadcast student from Florida: tall, olive skin, dark hair) came to my door selling magazine subscriptions for points towards some college-related activity. Being a recent college graduate myself and a professional in the broadcast industry, I decided to help him out. I subscribed to Rolling Stone: this amounted to $62.00. I didn't want the magazine, but he explained that I could cancel my check in 5-7 business days and he would still receive credit for selling the subscription. No harm, no foul. I keep my money and he gets his points towards school. Sure enough I called GLC (Great Lakes Circulation, or American Cash Award) and had no trouble canceling my check. The charge never appeared on my checking account. I never received any magazines.
Here we are four months later (March 16, 2009). I checked my online banking this morning and discovered a check cashed in the amount of $62.00. While it took me a while to recollect where this charge came from (or what GLC was...), I realized that it was from this mysterious magazine sale that took place months ago. After a quick GOOGLE search, I was horrified to read all of the rip off stories posted on the web. It looks like I am one of hundreds that fell victim to the scam.
After many failed attempts to contact GLC and American Cash Award (keep in mind, I am calling during their designated business hours), I have decided to take the following actions:
> I have filed a police report regarding a financial crime with the Lenexa Police Department (I am a resident of Lenexa, Kansas)
> I have contacted the Colorado District Attorneys Office. Apparently there is an investigation against GLC.
> I have contacted the Colorado Better Business Bureau. GLC has a business rated of "F" - go figure, right? I'm still waiting for a call back to learn more about the illegal practices of the phony company.
Any other suggestions would be helpful. katie_l_thomas@hotmail.com
WE GOT SCAMMED BY GLC TOO. WE PAID $32.00 AND THE CHECK WAS CASHED, BUT NO MAGAZINES AND NO RESPONSE TO PHONE CALLS. OUR RECEIPT IS DATED 11-06-08. WHAT CAN WE DO TO GET OUR MONEY BACK? I HAVE LEFT SEVERAL MESSAGES ON THEIR VOICE MAIL AND NOBODY PHONES ME BACK AND I HAVE NEVER RECEIVED ANY MAGAZINES.

I am having the same problem and the number that they gave you is disconnected as well as every other number that I have been given or *69ed. They gave me one number that is for a utility company. This scam is so aggravating. I believe we need to file a class action suit after reading all of these posts from everyone that has fallen into their trap. You can reach me at ptonguis@intowishn.com. I posted earlier today if you wish to read it. They have been calling me all day telling me that my account was set up for early termination when I haven't even received the first magazine. Fortunately I have not been charged anything but I haven't received anything either including the 1000.00 shopping spree. I can't believe that I got suckered into this but I have to say they are very good at what they do. The more questions you ask them the faster they hang up. Good luck to you but I wouldn't pay them a dime nor worry about your credit as they breached the contract and there is nothing in writing. I requested that they fax me everything and they hung up on me. I took almost 20 calls from them today. Irritating to say the lest.
