Unethical business practices
I ordered the "free" EBay Tutorial. I didn't realize that I'd agreed to a monthly subscription to other tutorials. I'd started doing a lot of traveling and had many charges on my credit card. I didn't notice the charges from Overnight Genius and the ensueing deliverys of more unwanted or needed tutorial. I'd also ordered some discs through a credit card rewards program and thought that these were from them.
Last month I saw the charge on my credit card and got another tutorial. I called and was told I would be cancelled and just send back the one I had for credit. A month later it was still on my card statement so I checked the website and was informed I'd been cancelled. I called Overnight Genius and was told I'd been cancelled from future tutorials and they'd received the one I sent. This girl informed me she would give me a credit for the last one ($85.18), minus a $19.95 restocking fee. When I complained she said that was their policy. I then asked her if I could send a bill for $19.95 for my time and aggravation, not counting all the money they'd taken from my credit card. She said she couldn't help me with that and have a nice day.
This company operates within the law, but it knows what it's doing and when word gets around and they don't get anymore business, they'll just open under another name with another dubious product and scam millions of dollors from thousands of more people.

Total fraud
I am writing to complain about this business. I ordered software for $1.95 postage and handling, which I received. I did not realize it was a 10-day trial, and there was nothing in the packaging indicating that it was a trial, or that there was a time limit for returning it. Since I had other things on my mind, I did not return it within that time, and about a month later I received another package from Overnight Genius. Now I had given them my credit card # when I ordered the $1.95 package, and discovered the following month when I received a third package, that I had been charged about $80 for each of the three sets of software.
I know I was stupid to give them my credit card. But they never enclosed a bill or a receipt in their packaging, and when I called them up and screamed, they advised me that they would only accept one package as a return and would charge a 25% restocking fee on that return.
Nothing that was enclosed with the software indicated any of this, and my screaming did no good, so I wrote to the BBB in Denver and gave them the whole sad story. The business responded to the BBB and to my complaint in the most self-serving and mealymouthed way, which made me even more furious and I told the BBB that I was not satisfied with their response, that the terms of the so-called agreement had never been provided to me, and that I felt that the practice of not enclosing a receipt and/or invoice in the package was at the least sharp practice and at the most fraudulent.
The BBB offered to arrange mediation or arbitration, but it did not seem feasible to me for $200 to go to Colorado from New Jersey, so I advised them to close their file. So, I'm out the money, but I've learned a lesson. I hope that my experience with this extremely slippery company will prevent someone else from losing money.

i wonder how many consumers will be scammed before anything will be done? the same thing happened to me with the same results. i do believe the feds are in somebody's pocket.
You should be able to get your credit card company to do something about this. Just tell them you authorized the first shipping charge, but nothing else. You'll probably have to fill out a form or 2. It will then be up to overnightgenius to show your credit card company differently. The CC company will hold off paying them until the issue is resolved. That's probably worth the $200.
Unauthorized charge on my credit card!
I bought cd courses for free, I had to pay only $4.31 for shipping on my credit card on 02/28/08. When I was looking at my bank account online on 04/08/08 I found out a charge of $76.41 from this company with out my authorization and order.
I was the recent victim of Id theft. I'm guessing the thief was testing the waters before he/she did any thing huge, but he/she opened various service accounts in my name. These included: blockbuster online, stamps.com, napster, netflicks, and overnight genius. I caught the misuse immediately and my bank, Bank of America, was great about clearing the charges and issuing me a new card.
The major annoyance, besides not having a debit card for a week, was closing all the accounts. All the customer service for these companies where great and prompt to help me. Some even told me they would put in additional request to the bank indicating the fraud. The exception to the helpfulness was Overnight Genius.
The fraudulent order was placed on a Sunday and I called at open of business on Monday. They told me the package was already shipped and my account details were not in their system. What kind of workflow is shipping USPS on a Sunday and not having the electronic records automatically synced. Bad IT.
When I called back that afternoon to get the account removed, Overnight Genius they acted like I was making the story up. They told me that because the software was already sent that I would have to return it in 15 days to get my account removed. I insisted that the policy was bogus and that I don't understand why I have to pay shipping, when I never ordered it to begin with. BTW the name on the account was spelled wrong, which is a clear indication of fraud. They told me I could send it "return to sender", but strongly discouraged this. I talked to the overnight genius phone grunts and a manager, neither had the courage to "Do the Right Thing."
Finally I got the package, and I posted it "return to sender." As soon as I dropped it in the mail box I called them. The overnight genius phone grunt in customer service looked my up my account, and acted like I did something wrong posting it "return to sender." I finally convinced her to cancel the account. which she did.
The moral is that don't be surprised with poor customer service and service policies when dealing with Overnight Genius. If they will not help someone with canceling an account that is a fraudulent account, then good luck if it is legit.
BTW, the fraud has been cleared up, but I still don't know how they got my debit card info, home address, email, and phone number. I do know they are located somewhere in Kentucky. So beware!
Can I recommend a way to learn software and technology. Try surf the web for free tutorials and play with the software before purchasing shady sound free course offers. When in doubt buy a book from amazon. I promise you will learn more and remember it better this way. Take it from a self taught IT/Software geek. The frustration is often worth it.
i also found out after ordering this product for $4.31 for shipping on my credit card, that a few months later this company had charge a $76.41 with out my authorization and order.
i just hope its over and if not i need a to contact them.
if anyone knows a way to fix this problem.
Unauthorized billing!
I too ordered a complete 3 disc set on Mastering E-bay from Overnight Genius for $4.95 shipping. There was nothing in the Terms & Conditions saying I had ten days to look it over. When I checked my bank account, Overnight Genius charged me $76.41, I called them to tell them I haven't even opened the box yet and would like to send it back and get a FULL...
