Select Merchandising Services Labor / unreasonable firing

I worked for Select Merchandising services for 3 years. I was promised a pay raised. But my supervisior (K. French) also told me some sad story.I worked long hours for merchandisers that was off work (summer vacations AND SATURDAYS) When no one would take extra stores. My mother passed away 2013 and I was discharged. for no reason. DO NOT WORK FOR THIS COMPANY.

Select Merchandising Services Pay Raise

I was promised a pay raise this year. I was told if I did more of a certain type of work with this company, that I would receive that raise this Spring. Well I did that work, plus some and when I asked about my raise, I was given excuse after excuse about why it hadn't gone through yet, for months. About a week ago, after contacting the general manager, I was told that no raises for any employees, merchandisers nor managers, would be put through this year. I was then told today, by a fellow employee, that they received a raise. I have been with this company for almost 5 years with only one pay raise during my 4th year, this fellow employee has only been with them a little over a year. I would like to know where my raise is, and why, after seeing with my own eyes and being told by my supervisor and other employees that money was given out here and there for lunches, free gift cards, gas to employees so they could get to their stores, I was given the excuse that they "just could not afford to give any employee a raise this year". Are there any other employees out there that have received a raise for the 2012 year?

It is highly recommended you find an alternative to working with Select Merchandising Services for the following reasons:

1.) Select Merchandising Services (SMS) knowingly and willfully place false and misleading classified advertisements in Craig's List and other job listings with the goal in mind to hire merchandisers for their company under false pretenses and by bait and switch. See actual SMS advertisement here.

2.) Said false and misleading advertisements create the impression to the general public that Select Merchandising Services (SMS) hire merchandisers at an hourly rate when in fact merchandisers are required to work every Sunday and whenever ordered by SMS without pay.

3.) SMS management is in the position to know that divulging their "work for no pay" policy in said classified advertisements would be detrimental to SMS and beneficial to said applicant.

4.) SMS management knowingly and willfully act to omit their "work for no pay" policy from said classified advertisements with the intent to mislead and deceive the applicant to the detriment of the applicant and for the sole benefit of Select Merchandising Services (SMS).

5.) SMS management knowingly and willfully act to omit their "work for no pay" policy from job interviews with applicants with the intent to deceive and mislead the applicant to the detriment of the applicant and for the sole benefit of Select Merchandising Services (SMS).

6.) SMS management knowingly and willfully act in a deceitful manner with the goal in mind of steering unwitting applicants into accepting merchandising positions with SMS under false pretenses and for less than what the applicant bargained for.

7.) Merchandisers work in good faith under SMS management direction only to be refused payment for work performed.

8.) Merchandisers are first and only informed of SMS "work for no pay" policy after the merchandiser has worked for several hours under SMS direction and has initiated questions to SMS management about being paid for work performed.

9.) SMS management require merchandisers work each and every Sunday for no pay under the threat of terminationif they should refuse.

10.) SMS management require merchandisers work for no pay whenever ordered by SMS management under the threat of termination if they should refuse.

11.) SMS management require merchandisers have regular access to a computer and to print out SMS material solely for SMS benefit then deny merchandisers reimbursement for printer ink and paper solely used by the computer for SMS.

12.) SMS management knowingly and willfully act to pressure merchandisers into settling for less than what was bargained for using threats of termination should the merchandiser refuse to work for no pay whenever ordered by SMS.

Yes..I am very angry...I have had no more than 15 minutes of training and had to learn this job on my own. I understand the emails...I receive [several] emails daily that have nothing to do with me...I received huge boxes at the kroger store to build displays with zero instructions. My supervisor said to go to the web site only to find out that there are no instructions for this particular display.

No training, no organization...The manager can barely speak or write English. He spoke non-stop for two days while working at lighting speed. This was the training. We worked with receiving clerks to check product in and out and they could not understand this manager. Clerks also warned of having seen 10 new faces in their store within 7 months of 2011. No help from manager, just antagonism. Most people are gone within a month. Received no reply from corporate headquarters when I questioned field supervisor's behavior. No positive words ever from manager.

..I was promised a raise, which they starting mentioning at the end of last year until a week ago. They kept telling me the more work I do, the better my raise would be. I did that work, and more. I was told last week that no employees would be receiving raises this year... I have been with this company for 5 years... I am extremely pissed off..
Thanks,
Fellow ripped-off employee

Sleazy Managers, no encouragement provided, employees feelings aren't listened to.
The demands increase and the pay decreases. Rude managers in the stores. TNG is becoming more and more disorganized and blaming the Merchandiser.

If you were working for Select Merchandising Services, you should not have been promised to be paid daily as we pay biweekly and have always paid that way. That being said, misunderstandings sometimes occur and it is the duty of the HR department to get those resolved as expediently as possible. Please contact me at HR@selectmerchandisingservices.com and I will see that your issue is addressed quickly and appropriately. -Jim Bock, Director of Human Resources.
