United Bilt Misleading customer regarding financing; not taking complaints seriously

There are things you need to know before you decide to use United Bilt to build your home. The most disturbing thing is that you will be paying your mortgage BEFORE your house is built. The sales lady in the office will tell you that this rarely happens, but that is an outright lie. When you talk to the actual builders, they will tell you that it is rare for a house to be built before the first payment. The second most disturbing thing is that there ARE closing costs, despite what they claim. United Bilt does finance, but they fail to point out to you in the paperwork that their interest rate skyrockets after six months. So then you are forced to refinance. They tell you that refinancing is simple and just requires a few signatures with Gateway, a mortgage company they partner with. That is a lie. When we refinanced, Gateway wanted us to pay $10, 000 in closing costs! We had to scramble to find a mortgage company that could do better than that. What is really sickening is that we had a down payment ready, but the sales lady told us to spend the down payment on appliances because we wouldn’t need it. My next complaint is that our materials sat on our land for MONTHS before the first crew arrived. United Bilt uses a separate crew for each project and the crews do not communicate. There were weeks in between each crew, sometimes months. There were times when we questioned the construction practices. We would tell the general contractor, and he would shrug our concerns off. So then we tried to contact corporate. Which brings me to another disturbing complaint. Corporate will not answer. Go ahead, try to call them. You will get a machine. So we left messages. Guess who calls us back? Our local office. One of our concerns was that our house was on piers and they put dirt right up next to the wood of the pier. They did use concrete deep in the ground, but there is about two feet of dirt touching our piers with no concrete. They said this was standard, and I’m still not sure about that because of termites. So fast forward a year and our home is flooded with about three inches of water from the river. When we get a contractor to come in to repair it, there are many things that he points out that were unsafe in our home, including a load bearing wall that wasn’t supported at all (remember our house is on piers). We sent a picture of it to United Bilt and they shrugged it off and said it was fine. There are other complaints, including two windows that are still cracked (from sitting on our property for months before building), paltry allowances, a persistent leak in the roof, etc.

United Bilt Nightmare service

I would absolutely LOVE to post my complaint against United Bilt homebuilder. This company is the most dishonest, sneaky, poorest construction company that ever existed. We have been fighting with them for over 4 years and still they insist that there is nothing wrong with the junk home they built. Please PLEASE contact me for more information. I would love to have my information out there so that other honest people who want a dream home built will NOT have the nightmare that we have had. Please contact me. THANKS.

I would just like to warn anyone even thinking about building a home to Please research the builder. I did briefly and wish i would have never used UBH. In a brief overview i can tell you that it has been the worse experience of my 44 years. From start to well not even finished in a year now the house is not what i was told it would be. From the very beginning things have went wrong. The house was not placed in the spot it was suppose to be, trees were uprooted that were planted by my late father, 2 contractors were let go and my sales lady quit. This company does not have their own painters and employes that actually work on your home they are contracted out and from what i seen were not very professional in what they were doing. I had to hire their plumber because of city code and they let him go as well. I had to have a different plumber come in and fix what he did wrong. The drive way that my father put in years earlier was rip up and piled in the middle of my front yard. I could go on and on about other issues with the AC, outside paint, cheap hardware, rusting sink and outside lights but i am still waiting on the company to come in and fix things.

in response to my complaint last year about United Bilt and their Sheetrock work, they have since satisfied my gripes and have been willing to work with us. A special thanks goes out to James-Contractor Superintendent.

We are also experiencing quality problems with the house built by United-Bilt Homes. Aside from the quality concerns we have concerns about the integrity of United-Bilt Homes. We have been lied to by a number of their employees. So much so that we decided to record videos and/or audio since the amount of lying they do is incredible.

One thing consistent about United-Bilt Homes is the lying. They don't know when to stop especially when they are being recorded on video.

United-Bilt Homes lied to us when their Regional Construction Manager entered into a verbal agreement to resolve the Major Structural Issues. He even said they would have to destroy the house to fix it. However, the response they filed with the Better Business Bureau on 5/13/2011: "During my visit I did not say that we were going to tear out drywall and repair. I said that we would repair any areas that were not within performance standards and I wanted to seek advice of the correct way to measure the bows in the drywall. I returned on 4/20/11 and measured the drywall against performance standards and found no areas that were out of the agreed standard. The most bow that was measured was 3/16 inch."

Don't take my word for it that he lied. Watch the YouTube video of this verbal contract at the link below:

We have concerns about their honesty regarding the Completion Statement:

The house is not wired to the local applicable code:

I would strongly recommend watching the above videos before even thinking about having United-Bilt Homes build you a structure.

I have posted the above videos on YouTube to prevent others from being ripped off by United-Bilt Homes like we and others have been.
