S&J Engines Warranty is a Joke! Dont Buy! Also known as S and J Engines, sandjengines.com, S&S Rebuilt Engines, rebuiltautoengines.com and bunch of other names! Scam! Rip Off!

I blame myself for not understanding and reading the small print of S & J Engines warranty or should I say S & S Engines because same company, same games, same complaints over and over. I was drawn to the 7 year warranty. I should have known if it looks too good to be true then it probably is. The warranty does not cover most of the engine and they will come up with every excuse to deny your claim.

There are 2 pieces of information that I should have read closely in their terms and conditions. First they max out their labor payment at $850. (which they will never pay because they will find an excuse to blame your certified installer) Second their 7 year warranty ONLY COVERS THE SHORT BLOCK "Labor reimbursement will (NOT) be paid for an engine removal unless a defect caused during manufacturing is present in the short block".

I found out afterwards that the short block is just the engine block itself and does not include the cylinderheads or timing components or anything else that comes on a long block which is what you are buying!

Very shady company who wont stand behind their product! IF IT SOUNDS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE THEN IT IS! DO NOT BUY OR YOU WILL BE SORRY!

I completely agree. I purchased my first and definitely my last engine from these guys. After installing it myself, I found out the front crankshaft seal was leaking oil. I spoke with Pat at the company, and he told me to just change the seal (a four hour job) that it was probably pinched. I changed the seal with no luck. Took my truck to my mechanic, who went through three seals (from the Ford dealer) just to find out it still leaked. Cost me $82/hr for 3.5 hours. According to the warranty, I will only be reimbursed for $50/hr. I called the company and spoke with Pat, and this time he said that I should try a Mazda seal because he had a customer that had the same problem on the same engine. I have a Ford! I explained the money part of it, that I now have to pay $300 more dollars to have the seal changed again. He then said I could purchase a premium warranty for $200. Why should I have to pay extra for something that should be done right the first time? I understand problems happen, but this company has not made one move to keep me a returning customer.

I bought an engine just this past year. It locked up at about 15000miles. I am currently trying to get the company to honor their warrantee. they keep asking my Mechanic to trouble shoot for them. First pull the spark plugs. Next disconnect the tansmission from engine. Now pull engine and send it back. All on MY dime. I will be able to tell you my results by next week after THEY get it back. But I am leaning towrd the fact, I will need to buy my own engine again, too.

I got a marine motor off these and after 7 hours of run time the oil filter was full of metal and lost all oil pressure and all they want to do is lay blame on the installing mechanic, witch is me and have been a mechanic for 30 years and also am ASE master certified for 5 years but yet I don't know what I'm doing! I'm in dispute with this charge now and I will post on the results

all i can say for sure is that i'm happy with the engine i bought from them; their customer service and tech people were able to answer my questions easily... that said, i'm sure that there are examples where things go wrong and don't work out well.. a couple of these complaints have no updates as to what happened; were the problems solved or not? for me to be fair i have to take into consideration that this company builds around 6, 000 engines a year and has an average of 2-3 complaints a year to the BBB... that isn't a bad record really... yes, if you are in that percentage then they should do their utmost to satisfy you.. myself, i wouldn't feel too badly if 98% of my work went without a problem... it's a little tricky to maneuver to find but there are videos of what processes are used in the rebuild and explanations of the technical aspects of doing so. fairly impressed with what their equipment is and what they pay attention to.. i will very likely get another engine from them for my 88 ranger...
