As you see they are opening new offices fast as no one knows that this is really the shell company for American Shingle after they filed b/k- But they screwed up when i found out :) Enjoy that Americant Shingle scam- Screwed how many out of insurance checks to re-opent his crap- I got proof what do you got? Funny that as American Shingle sales rep calls me-you know the one that first knocks on door- Telling me how sorry he was and i told him it wasn't his fault or even the guy who met the insurance agents fault- But people higher up in office. Told him fortunately i was able to cancel check before it was cashed but American shingle didn't know- Had the (B)Witch who took my check in first place call me trying to get me to sign woth their new company- before i could even mention name he said "who southern armor, i thought they weren't trying to let anyone know that". Well they did and he confirmed it for me.
This is American Shingle-New with scammed money after they went B/k.
Someone needs to stop this crap before you scam the wrong one-like me- you have no idea what was coming your way if you woulda gottten my money :) but i woulda loved every second of it-i promise. Than i think about everyone that did get scammed/and think someone needs to do something for them. Elderly etc. you might think its just insurance money but its more than being about the money- so you never know people :)- i might get to still have my fun for those that did get scammed.

And now we finally heard the ceo of American Shingle speak to local news last night. It was on fox charlotte nc. His exact words were" It's not lke we were taking people's hard earned paycheck, it was insurance money" What was that Mr. CEO. Than he goes farther by saying that the company has filed B/k with only $300, 000 in bank account. First they will pay back everyone company they owe money to, Than they will pay whatever else to employees- Than lastly, whatever is left will be refunded to customers were the money came from? Can someone please have the IRS or proper people investigate where and how SOUTHER ARMOR ROOFING had got the start up money. It has to be traceable. I know this is the shell of american shingle but i don't have the autority to investigate their books. This company was started months before American shingle went B/K in which they knew they had to, as Their own shngle supplier cut them off. Now they got a new federal tax I.D. # and can start over fresh with stolen money
I have seen this locally. I work in highend very upscale house's. Our client that day was talking with us and told us how many problems she had with her previous builder. She gave him a 150, 000 up front check to start job- he had the foundation poured etc. Than mentioned to her he needed another 150, 000.00 for framers etc. She wrote him the check were he cashed it. Went and filed B/K. Re-opened under another company and was actually building a new house right down the road from her. Bad part about it- IT'S ALL LEGAL. THAT IS A LOOPHOLE IN OUR COURT SYSTEM. That guy should never be able to build again and should be in prison for commiting fraud. When will our legal system step up and close these loopholes. Yes there are companies that really do go B/K as things turn to worse- I could live with that. If a company knows they are going B/K and still collects checks untill the last day- use that to re-open a new federal tax id number which is the same as a persoanal Social Security number. Should be prosecuted. If we as a person file B/K with our social security number- It stays on our credit for 10 years I believe. With a company the federal tax id number is a new start, so companies doing business with them have no idea- usually it only takes 2-3 years of being in business before they are able to obtain credit from banks etc. with proof the company atleast made a profit- could be a dollar. It just has to show profit and than you get the big company loans. LEGAL SYSTEM ISN'T SO FAIR AND LEGAL in this type of scenario.

Well you live right by where they opened their first shop. Try using them and tell us how it works out for you. They might be legit at first, just like Americant shingle, but soon the ponzi scheme will collapse again. YES they are the same company. Sorry i refuse to put all info out there but i'm saving that for the real people who got scammed out of their money, the ones that are getting lawyered up. Thats when i will be glad to bring the info to their judge/arbitrator, untill than you should give them a shot and let us know how they did :)

well maybe you should tell southern armor to switch their contracts up. As it is word by word copy of american shingles. Down to every detail of the work they do, just copied from american shingle. One mentioned that it was started by employees who left american shingle- Well it's built just as american shingle and will have the same outcome in the end. As far as my roof, Yeah i found me a good roofer/contractor. He knew how pissed i was at just as something as small as a roof/ could cause so much stress. When discussing the start date he said it would take him about 3 weeks to get stated, i'm thinking like great, another american shingle scam- So i ask him what type of deposit are loking for, his response, don't worry about it you can just pay whenever we are done. Yes that got him the job right there. As his company is local and has been in Business since 1991. The whole american shingle scam had me so stresed out I found my self bout ready to beat the wheels of a ATandT employee who knocked on my door during all this crap. Yes it turned ugly fast, before i realized that it wasn't him i want. To solve that problem i've added in BIG Words across my front door NO SOLICITING and NO TESSPASSING as if anyone else decides to knock minus kids and neighbors than they will be going right to jail :) You say southrn armor has been in business since january 2010. you are correct, they now show two offices on bbb website both in alabama. They also work out of tn, pn, and nc as of right now. That company must be doing real good to branch off so quickly. Yes i'm sure they will put up roofs, the same american shingle did, so they had a F rating with bbb. You noticed though before they went b/k there was 70 something comlaints and all were resolved except for 2.Resolved means the company and the person complaining agreed that the problem was corrected. So they were putting up tons of roofs a year untill it began to collaspe, knowing they were going to fold they still carried on trying to get every last penny before they filed bankrupt. As their shingle supplier had cut them off around the same time southern armor opened. So the shingles they were showing everyone that would be installed never did business with them over this debt. The problem with the whole company is too many peolple were trying to earn paychecks from one small insurance check, to a company that employeed not one single roofer. The same will show for southern armor, i'm certain they will start off doing as much work as american shingle- they will install roofs but soon they find themselves in the same place as the one they have copied. Might take a year could last up to 3, but it will crash. Its jsut not like they had hired 1 employee of american shingle, no way, American shingle was trying to have every employee switch over the this company. They didn't want this information realeased, I had to write stupid on my forehead to recieve it. Same story backed up by way more than a single employee. So i can easily tell you work for them. PLEASE take this to their owner, first switch up their contract so it is not a mirror of american shingle, just a few words switched around will help this case :) than Explain to him how american shingle failed. To many people trying to get a paycheck off of one small insurance check. Tell him to not use new money to pay off old claims/roofs like a ponzi scheme. Tell him his B rating will not last even if he does great work for everyone, You can't please everyone or customer you might have. Tell him to correct these things and he could have a decent running company. If he follows the exact footsteps of prior company than it will guide them to the same place. Maybe we aren't as smart as the egyptians when we build pyramids. Ours always seem to collaspe when theirs are still standing. Someone needs to explain all this to the owner, he has the potential to run a great company if ran correctly as american shingle started off same way bringing in tons of revenue. I am done with all this crap talk about southern armor=american shingle. I put the post for future reference for potential customers that might here that great knock at their door in which the salesman says you need a new roof without even getting on the roof/doesn't work that easy folks. One must actually get on roof to see damage. So use comany at your own risk, i'm sure they will start off legit to build a big company and branch into many more states. Just don't be the ones left in the end when it collaspes. If we built a house using the same blueprints than we will get the exact same house. That is what is going on here.

To god'sroofer09. You are correct. No one will want to even give a deposit to real roofers. Who need the work during this economy. Since there is not any new contstruction going up they no longer have the privelage to install the new roofs on new houses like in the past. I can understand a half down payment to cover materials and labor, paying the other half upon completion. As that is what my company requires. American shingle is a sales team, no roofers. That was their problem and ruined the trust of people who actually needed the roofs. If only they would go straight to the Roofing company that has their own roofers from the beginning, they will find themselves in a much better place. As now your insurance check isn't getting split in half because the sales team, it is all being used for the roofer themselves. Meaning better work as the job is earning more than what the sales guy would hire a sub-contractor for. It does suck for roofing companies, as they will feel the backlash of customers being uncomfortable with anyone as everyone reminds them of this american shingle. Hope you all the best with your company...
PLEASE PEOPLE CUT OUT THE MIDDLE MEN/SALES AGENTS WHO HIRES SUB-CONTRACTOR TO DO ROOF. GO DIRECTLY TO THE ROOFER THEMSELVES AND YOU WILL FIND YOURSELF LESS STRESSED OUT IN THE END-WITH BETTER WORK AS THEY ARE WORKING FOR THE WHOLE AMOUNT. NOT EARNING ABOUT 30% OF WHAT YOU PAID. THEY ARE EARNING 100% OF WHAT YOU PAY.

wow myersphotog. Thanks for the CORRECT info, as you are correct. This is the shell of american shingle. Sorry you had to go through this crap. These people get to legally hide behind the b/k rules to only pop back up. This is something that needs to be fixed in our legal system. A business B/k should stay with owners under their name. No, you file b/k under the legal system today. You can open your new company tomorrow with a fresh start and new federal tax i.d. number. More legal loopholes they need to be filled. Let us file B/k. It stays under our name for 10 years. Hope all the best, even though i'm certain you are one of the many that got scammed in the end.

"the last few months had financial problems and couldn't afford to put roofs on or stay in business. I know several people in the Atlanta area that DID GET ROOFS PUT ON by American Shingle last year and one in February"

That is just about the same time as southern armor opened, correct me if i'm wrong. You say last few months- that sounds more like the last 8 months

"it will be with the same owners/CEO/CFO/ etc... and I would guess it would be in the Atlanta area where they all probably live."

Now that would raise a few eyebrows, Plus just f.y.i. the ceo did live in florida, yes he does currently have a house in georgia. We will see after this bk where he ends up. Public information is just as legal as filing b/k to re-open another company :) But remember these people are STORM CHASERS so they will go where they think they can get insurance money. I hope i didn't mess it up with nationwide and southern armor in the future, if i did-SORRY but their customers will be warned when they hear your name, you are in the system :)-

"Very little in this thread is even the truth, so my time has been wasted here and my blood pressure raised "

Trust me i know how it feels to have my blood pressure raised thanks to Americant Shingle.Everything they said never was the truth- Just about knocked out the last guy who knocked on my door, i was all up in his face screaming at him before i realized my anger was not with him. It is the scam i almost got stuck in. NO SOLICITING and NO TRESSPASSING now in full view from way up the street :) no more door knockers. no more problems for me-yet

I guess one would not know unless you were mr. smith or an investigator. Lets hope he does the right thing, it is more than just one employee who came here. Yes many left to other reputable roofing companies after they found out and didn't want anything to do with americant shingle or southern armor. Americant shingle did millions of dollars in business, to only have 300, 000.00 and haven't put roofs up for half a year is a joke. So my challenge to Southern Armor is, how are you going to make this company not have the same fate as americant shingle. Maybe hire your own roofers could help. Maybe not focus so hard on fast money. Maybe not use new money to pay off old money recieved. I would love to hear the truth from mr. smith or anyone else they want to put in charge. What makes this business model different from the one Americant Shingle has? also, please change a few words in your contracts, looks like you plagerized americant shingles contract. Too funny, when you copy someones work at least chage something about it so it doesn't look the same. You have the oppurtunity to run a real company that generates tons of money, but your following the footsteps of where you started from. Change up the game to make it legit so in the end people don't get screwed, than you will find true pleasure in life.

I need someone who is reputable to let me know if southern armor is under investigation as of now. I have all my paper work complete and my brother will turn it to SS covering the alabama area to start the investigation, if not started yet. Please do not repsond if you have been defending this company or as your first comment. I need to make sure it has started or I will have it started this week. We see the lies coming from the company now, American shingle is our competitor. I got a strong enough case to have it started, If I do not hear from a reputable person on here, than I will assume no one knows and will proceed.

They should do you right. As I said before if this site let me delete my posts than I would. I just followed american shingle employees here but that does not mean they are bad. If you say your neighbor had the work done than go for it. I just wanted them checked out due to the purpose of american shingle but obviously nothing bad was found so you should be fine. Now go get that roof put on or just stare at your neighbors, and wonder what it would look like on your house :)

However, Listen(read/haha) closely Mr. Hank-- There is many leaks with information than you know of. :) Paranoid? Would they? What do they know? Well it seems there is plenty that do not like what is going on, may not speak upon it openly, but secretly coming forward. Some that are so close to you directly- you would be shocked. I know almost everything about you without ever meeting you. Keep your friends close but your enemies closer, wonder why they said this?

You are all a bunch of fools listening to snake oil salesmen knocking on your doors... I would NEVER allow a company that utilizes salesmen to solicit for roofing. Why not do the smart thing and look in your local yellow pages for REPUTABLE roofing companies that have been in your area for years and will be there down the road? Instead, you listen to some guy scare you as he spouts off about the terrible damage in your area and that he can ensure you get a FREE roof. Sounds too good to be true? Yep...look where you are now.

Was the CEO that was on the news in Charlette, also the CEO of Southern Armor? I doubt it. Are the Southern Armor owners the same as the ones that owned American Shingle? I seriously doubt that as well. Did Southern Armor hire an American Shingle Sales Rep. Maybe, but I wouldn't think that would make them a "SHELL COMPANY". I did a little searching and according to the Better Business Bureau, Southern Armor has been in business for about 8 months (Jan 2010). Best I can tell, American Shingle went belly up just a week or two ago. I seriously doubt they were the same owners or upper level management that took American Shingle into bankruptcy, AND have also been doing business in Alabama successfully for 8 months.?.?.? As best I can tell there were multiple owners of American Shingle, so your saying that all the heads of American Shingle moved to "Pelham, Alabama"? Not likely.

http://www.bbb.org/central-alabama/business-reviews/roofing-contractors/southern-armor-roofing-in-pelham-al-90033717

I checked the history of American Shingle, and it started in Douglasville, Georgia and then moved their main office to Atlanta.?.?.? Not sure what is making anyone link Alabama's Southern Armor to American Shingle but sounds like a crock... Please give the names of the American Shingle owners/CEO/CFO/ or some high ups that can be linked to the bankruptcy of American Shingle, that are now in charge of Southern Armor. THEN if that is true, you have something to link them. If not (which I expect they are not linked) then this whole post is just a crock of you-know-what.

If "nomorescamplease" is really a home owner trying to get his roof replaced and doesn't want to take any chances, then just tell whatever roofer you use that you are not releasing all the insurance money until the job is complete and roof has been replaced. *Tah-Dah* problem solved. How can you get scammed if they haven't got the money? From what my insurance company told me, they don't release the majority of the money until the job is complete anyway, and they send it to you, the policy holder, not the roofing company. AFTER YOU SEND THEM THE PAPERWORK PROVING THE ROOF WAS REPLACED... Maybe some home owners insurance companies give all the money up front, but if they do, just hang on to it (or atleast most of it)till the job is done. Its not rocket science people...

Back to the original point of this post though, I SERIOUSLY DOUBT Southern Armor has anything to do with American Shingle, other than perhaps hiring an employee from them. Should American Shingle owners/CEO/whatever reopen I bet it will be somewhere in Atlanta, where they probably live, not in Pelham, Alabama... lol... The more I think about it the more ridiculous this whole post is.

Teacherwholikesfacts is correct. Just because a few A.S. employees went to work for Southern Armor does not make it a shell company. From what I heard the company was started by a couple of former A.S. employees who quit because they got tired of working 70 hour weeks and their paychecks were delayed or bounced a few times. Who wouldn't want to find another job under those circumstances? So if they did what they had to do to support their families and pay their bills, why begrudge them that opportunity? Southern Armor has a good rating with the BBB.

American Shingles model worked and it was not a scam. Unfortunately, the owners became a little greedy as many other sales oriented companies and expanded way to quickly.. This will cause the whole roofing industry to suffer as homeowners are not going agree to paying any money up front which will cause your smaller companies to struggle with fronting monies for materials in turn causing them to fold aswell.

Proof? Hank Smith was a principal at AS. He's also a principal at Southern Armor. Look it up. Check the FLA business filings at www.sun biz.org, search American Shingle. Then check the Alabama Secretary of State site, search Southern Armor. He's on both. If he's such a good guy why isn't he working with media and investigators to take down the other principals at AS instead of starting another company?

Crooks!

"Godsroofer09" you are the perfect example of a disgrace to humanity. To use God in your handle, basically claiming you are his roofer, and then post a post like you did is so blasphemous I pity your soul. You don't know me but let me tell you something, while you were writing your trash on these internet forums I was in the Army serving my country, including 3 years oversees in a combat unit. Then I got out of the military and wanted to continue serving in some way so I went back to college and got my degree and teacher certification. My character is NEVER questioned by those that know me, but you on the other hand are a piece of crap and disgrace to America. Do us a favor and do some soul searching and decide if you want to spend your whole life as, well you know what you are, or make a change and try and be a decent person... Until then don't think your post have any merit whatsoever and when people read them their thoughts are probably like mine, "what a ###".

Back to the subject at hand, American Shingle obviously was legit to start with, but apparently in the last few months had financial problems and couldn't afford to put roofs on or stay in business. I know several people in the Atlanta area that DID GET ROOFS PUT ON by American Shingle last year and one in February and they were happy with how everything went. Something happened in the last couple months that sent them under, and I am sure now that the State (Georgia, not Alabama) has started an investigation they will see if it was something illegal or not. As far as Southern Armor, I still doubt that the same "decision makers" that let American Shingle go belly up are the ones running Southern Armor. That was same good research done by myersphotog@gmail.com, but just because someone that worked for American Shingle went to work for Southern Armor doesn't mean they are the "shell company". Should a true American Shingle shell company emerge, it will be with the same owners/CEO/CFO/ etc... and I would guess it would be in the Atlanta area where they all probably live. The American Shingle Corporate office is/was in Atlanta, I saw it on the news.

Also don't bother responding to me "GODLESSFOULMOUTHEDROOFER" as I have no interest in Pelham Alabama or Southern Armor at all, and the only reason I saw and read all this to start with was I was interested in what was really going on with American Shingle. Very little in this thread is even the truth, so my time has been wasted here and my blood pressure raised by the rudeness of some people. I read a statistic that over 80% of the information on the internet was not true and after reading this and several other company complaints I can see why. For some reason some people get behind a keyboard and show their worst traits. Complaints boards like this were created for the purpose of real discussions about companies and individuals, not foulmouthed lies and rude comments like "likesitfromtheback". You are a sick ###...

What makes you think Mr. Smith isn't working with investigators to bring down the other owners? He did leave the company months ago. Just because A.S. hasn't removed his name from their official business listings doesn't mean squat. They still have job listings that haven't been removed.

Does anyone here actually know of someone who who was ripped off by Southern Armor? They did my neighbors house and everything they told my neighbor they would do they did. I am in the process of dealing with them on my roof since it went so well for my neighbor. So I simply ask does anyone know of someone who has given SA money and not got a roof?

Yes, this company was formed by one of the American Shingle owners and many A.S. employees now work there. Read the bankruptcy filing. The 4 owners were paying themselves 10, 000/week in "payroll", then it changed over to "shareholder distributions" last Jan.-Feb., the same time production was lagging and the complaints started building. The company had revenues in excess of 35 million in the 1st 8 months of 2010, and they couldn't keep up production? Yea, right. Couldn't pay their suppliers and vendors because the owners were sucking all the cash out of the company to support their rock star lifestyles.

S. Armor is following the same business model, all sales and no roof installers on payroll, exhorbitant sales commissions, and salaries way above the industry average. They sub out the installations to the cheapest labor they can find and you wind up paying 2 or 3 times what a legitimate roofer would charge you. Do not do business with any contractor that will not give you a written, detailed estimate and certainly not with any that wants you to sign a contract to allow them to do the work if they "work with your adjuster to file a claim against your insurance company". There is a link to the BK filing and the financial statement at the bottom of this article. Notice one of the people who received "payroll/shareholder distributions" is also listed on S. Armor's business listing with the state. He was listed as a member and *removing* his name does not mean he is not still the owner; just attempting to hide his connection to the A.S. scam. Beware of this company.

I am a local roofer in Alabama and we never ask for money upfront before installing a roof because of American Shingle. I will visit areas that may have been affected and knock on a few doors if I see damage but will NEVER ask for any money. Please remember that there are honest people out there trying to earn a living.
Many times we can upgrade you to a higher quality shingle than before just to really impress a customer with our service.

My heart goes out to the victims and I am on here trying to obtain information about helping some of my neighbors get their checks back. If you have information that would help please contact me.

Good luck to you all that were scammed

It doesn't look like anyone will be getting their money back. The debts of this company are huge, and assets or cash on hand next to nothing. Secured creditors will get paid first if there is anything to get. See their BK filing.

Be aware that Southern Armor changed their name to Magic City Construction around the 1st of the year. Same scam, same people, different name. Do not do business with this company. H. S. is still running the show. Do not become another victim of insurance fraud.
