I have been president of a small, education based Non-profit for 15 years. In the past, my office manager filled out the forms to keep us in compliance. She passed unexpectedly from cancer in Oct. 2021 and it fell upon me to file the needed forms. I never knew so many forms and rules existed for a nonprofit in the state of Florida. Although most of these "businesses" as the state terms them, are a benefit to Florida taxpayers, and run by volunteers, the paperwork, shoddy mailing practices, unworkable phone numbers with malfunctioning instructions for numbers to reach anyone, has given me a new outlook on running a nonprofit. I paid my fine last year with no consideration given for the circumstances and was ready to send in the new paperwork (how many times a year?) when I received a notice on Feb. 29 (I have the envelope with the postmark) that I was now officially late because the form was due back by Feb. 15. That was it for me. I went into the highly publicized and one of the most confusing web sites ever (I am a college professor) and checked the box that said the nonprofit was no longer active. This should have been the end but when I did not receive an email stating the "business" was not active, I was nervous but decided they would contact me if I did something wrong when I checked the box. Instead, I received the same scary notice I did last year right after our office manager died, saying I am now going to owe much more money than the 50 they received last year with no consideration about the loss of our office manager. Of course, I tried to call and go back onto the website with no luck. I did find this site and I hope it does some good because I know that this system doesn't mean to do some of the things it does, and that sometimes, a letter needs to be written.

Desired outcome: I would like to have this new 50 dollar fine taken away due to the note above or if that isn't possible, an easy way to pay and receive confirmation about my nonprofit's closure. Thank you.
