Today I received Shape Magazine in the mail
Today I received Shape Magazine in the mail. It was addressed to me and had an account number above my name. I never ordered Shape Magazine, nor have any interest in Shape Magazine. I called Shape Magazine with the 800 # for contact in the Magazine. I reported I did not order their magazine. I was told to cancel I needed to call SUBCO and gave me their number to call. i called SUBCO, I asked SUBCO where they got my name to place an order I never made. They told me they got it from an e commerce company. I asked if Facebook was involved and was told for privacy reasons they could not answer. They told me they would take my name and mailing address off their lists and my subscription to Shape is cancelled. I was told I did not owe any money for this subscription because as yet I was not billed. I was also told that my name could have been taken from any survey I might have taken on line. What happened was is not legal as far as I am concerned. They get names and place orders from on line information. Then they place an order in a person's name who is not aware of the order until they receive the product. This needs to be reported and this practice stopped. Ruth C.

Several years ago, I started receiving ELLE magazine
Several years ago, I started receiving ELLE magazine. I am now in my late 50s and this magazine (for twenty-somethings) has no value to me. I later found out that somehow, Subco, a company I have never heard of before, had charged monies to my credit card for a several year subscription to a magazine I don't even open. It goes into the trash as soon as it arrives in the mail. I have contacted the magazine and asked for a cancellation several times but they won't cancel without an okay from Subco. I have now received a magazine outside the subscription expiration date and tried to cancel again. Again, Elle Magazine will not cancel without the okay from Subco. Thankfully, the credit card used to purchase this has since expired and they cannot charge another expensive several-year subscription to it. However, I do not want a bill collector contacting me over the issues that I am still continuing to receive outside of the initial subscription that I didn't order in the first place. I have no idea how Subco got my name and payment information. All I know is that if I had ordered a magazine from anywhere, I definitely would NEVER have ordered ELLE. I would give this a negative star rating if I could.

So, I called up GQ to see why I am getting the magazine without ordering it. They sent me the name of a "3rd party". What? I hate GQ. as a gay man I find it just as harmful as any of the magazines for women who are inundated by unrealistic body images. So, I called up the company SUBCO. Who? Never heard of them. Okay. so I call the number. The man told me not to worry. I was not being charged. That is not the issue. I demanded my name to be out of their database. I am not sure who they would sell my name to. And, I wanted to know the name of the company that gave them permission to send the garbage to me. "There was no way to tell," [Doesn't sound like a business model to me] Fine, I will speak to a supervisor. After being told that it was goint to be a wait, I told them that I wouldn't mind. I am filling out this review and the more time I had, the more detailed it would be. I don't mind being on hold for hours or days. Wouldn't you know it: The supervisor wasn't available but the gentleman found the name of the company that started this. Funny how I was going to get a list, probably long list, of companies I' have to track down the and investigate--but, lo and behold, I got the name Vovo Gamers (I am not a gamer and have never purchased anything from them, not even as a gift. So this company is very sus. Oh, and if you are going to reply and tell me how sorry you are that this happened, please begin your remarks with your name and personal home address. I bet you will not because you appreciate your privacy--just like me.
