On the scheduled day the technician arrived early, I explained we had 2 issues one was in the half bath the toilet had a leak that went into the sunroom, and in the master bath the toilet appeared to be blocked. When flushed the water would rise then fall slowly. The tech removed the toilet in the half bath and determined the extension ring (what appeared to be a large washer) was completely worn out. He replaced it and stated that there was water damage and mold behind the tiled wall. Sunshine Plumbing worked with United Fire and Water Restoration they addressed water and mold damage. He then told us there was a 4-inch block in the main line causing the slow draining in the master bath. We asked if the main was blocked why did the other sinks, faucets and toilets work appropriately. He stated the block was partial and the main pipe was under a walk-in closet and went into the back yard where it connected to the city sewer. He stated in order to get his camera in the line he would have to cut a hole in the pipe outside. We declined his doing that. He explained that 2-3 feet of flooring in my wife's walk-in closet would have to be cut up as well as the foundation would need to be cut into. Before any cutting we needed to know how much this was going to cost. He stated that replacing the extension ring in the half bath was already $520.98 Which we thought was way overpriced. We requested a quote in writing for the proposed work. He said that would come from the office. In the meantime, we contacted Terry Carney Plumbing for a 2nd opinion and Serve Pro to evaluate for water damage and mold. Terry stated if there was a blockage, we would have had more sinks and toilets backed up. Terry snaked the master bath and found the toilet deodorizer wire had gotten lodged in the line, flushed the toilet and it works fine at a cost of $135.00. Serve Pro took the small vanity in the half bath out and found no water damage or mold. The next day we received the estimate from Sunshine Plumbing in the amount of $11,211.59 for work that was unnecessary and not needed.
Desired outcome: We feel replacing the extension ring at a cost of $520.00 was too much. We would like a partial refund.
